Why GM Failed In India

Why GM Failed In India

CNBC:

Over the last 20 years, the
Indian automotive market has grown from
about 500,000 new passenger cars,
hatchbacks, sedans and utilities to
about 3.5
million in 2018.
The market has an expected compound annual
growth rate of about 5 to
6 percent over the next 10 years.
But, some automakers have struggled
to make it work.
Among them is General
Motors, the largest U.S.
car company. GM stopped selling cars in
India in 2017 after years of
declining market share.
It's a striking move for GM, which
in recent years has also closed
shop in other regions around the
world, as leadership focuses on
maximizing profits and making investments
in new technologies such as
electric power trains
and mobility services.
With a population of more than
1 billion people, India is becoming
one of the world's
largest automotive markets.
The country is poised to surpass
Japan as the world's third biggest
new car market in 2021.
So while there is ample
opportunity for automakers, the Indian
landscape has been particularly difficult
to navigate, especially for
American firms. GM watched its share
of the Indian market erode
steadily over several years, bottoming out
at about one percent in
2016 just before the
automaker pulled out.
So if the Indian market is
growing, why did GM struggle, especially
when GM has been
so successful in China?
To be fair, quite a few automakers
tend to have difficulty in the
Indian market. First of all, India
is a massive country with a
diverse population of roughly 1.3
billion people.
India, I think, we are
definitely a complex market.
The income levels
are quite heterogeneous.
We are divided, actually into
urban India and rural India.
The consumer requirements are actually
different even the needs are
different in both these markets.
There are a few criteria a
mass market automaker ought to meet.
They are fuel efficiency, resale
value, proximity of service stations
and the affordability of parts
and low servicing costs.
I think first thing is price.
We are a country with a
very low per capita income.
Indians are very price sensitive.
But price is not the only factor.
So now the customer also needs
some more value, for example, with
styling elements. And then, I think,
the consumer also wants a global
brand. They want a
brand which is aspirational.
The consumer wants an overall combination of
all P's, you know it may
be product, it may be
price, it may be positioning.
Which makes the things
quite complicated for OEMs.
These might seem pretty attainable,
but many automakers have
struggled to meet these
in the country.
There are a couple of companies who
have managed to crack that code
and there are several more with shares
of the market ranging in size
from small to smaller.
By far, the most successful automaker
in India is the Japanese firm
Suzuki, which alone owns
half the Indian market.
Suzuki has enjoyed something of
a first mover advantage.
It was the first major automaker to
enter India, and it did so
through a joint venture
with Indian manufacturer Maruti.
Suzuki also specializes in highly
fuel efficient vehicles, which are
extremely important in
the Indian market.
After Suzuki, Korean maker Hyundai is
the second largest with 16
percent of the Indian market.
After that, Indian, Japanese and Korean
makers such as Honda, Tata,
Kia and Mahindra all more or less
have equal degrees of market share.
Kia in particular, is a relatively
late coming brand that has been
able to succeed in India.
I think an excellent example is
Kia Motors which recently entered, it
was a new brand and
they gave a great proposition.
They were in an SUV segment and
I think suddenly right from the month
one, we saw a great success
for this OEM, in India.
Then the remaining 10 percent of the
market is made up of others such
as Ford, Renault, BMW and Nissan.
Early on, GM entered the India market
with its Opel brand, a mass
market brand GM had
owned in Europe.
While Opel cars tended to be
affordable, they failed to resonate with
Indian buyers.
I think later on they realized that's
not a brand which is really
going to work well in India because
that was not a value proposition
which they were offering
to their customers.
But then GM introduced its Chevrolet
brand to the country, which
brought it more success.
It was a great success.
They launched a few great
products like Chevrolet Cruze Chevrolet
Beat. They had that start which
they were really looking forward.
Despite these efforts, the automaker had
trouble taking share in the
Indian market. It was the first
automaker to introduce a diesel fuel
powered car of its size.
At the time, the Chevrolet beat
was the smallest diesel powered car
customers could buy in India.
It was a strong proposition and
benefited from a government subsidy
on diesel engines.
But in the end, the
diesel Beat had few takers.
The company may also have made a
misstep by trying to introduce a
low-cost vehicle GM manufactured with
its Chinese partner SAIC called
the Chevrolet Sail.
Their plan got derailed with the
introduction of Sail because I think
they underestimated the consumer aspiration
and then, I think, the
decline started. GM also fell victim
to a kind of self-reinforcing
cycle. One challenge it struggled with
was the lack of an adequate
dealer and servicing network.
More premium brands such as Mercedes
and BMW often attract customers
with the means to travel
further for service and sales.
But, mass market brands such as
GM's Chevrolet are targeting middle
class buyers who value convenience.
Dealerships in India often sell a
single brand so GM's low sales
volumes meant a single dealer might sell
only a handful of cars in a
month and risk taking losses on
the costs of running the business.
In the end, such low market share
made it difficult for GM to justify
maintaining a presence
in the country.
The automaker officially stopped selling
cars in India on December
31, 2017.
GM told CNBC it explored many
options for its India business, but
ultimately withdrew after it
determined the increased investment
originally planned for the country would
not deliver the returns of
other global opportunities.
It continues to operate services
for existing Chevrolet customers in
the country. In September, the
automaker entered a long-term
partnership with Tata Consultancy Services,
which will do engineering
design for GM vehicles meant
for markets around the world.
The move out of India was part
of a larger pullback GM has been
making around the world as
it restructures its business.
We're seeing other automakers follow
suit as they're pruning.
They're pruning the dead branches and
focusing on where they can be
strong. For GM, this is a huge shift
because GM of old used to be all
things to everyone everywhere.
And, it has now decided that
is not the proper strategy.
The automaker told CNBC if it doesn't
see a clear path to leadership
and long term sustained profits in
a particular market, it will look
at opportunities to focus its resources
on areas that will lead to
the greatest results. It added that this
is the same approach it has
taken elsewhere.
The automaker also sold its
European operations to French carmaker
PSA in 2017.
At the time it pulled out of India
GM had two factories there, one in
the Gujarati city of Halol
and another in Talegaon.
The Halol plant was acquired by
MG Motor, the once famed British
brand now owned by Chinese
automaker SAIC Motor Corporation.
GM has a joint venture with
SAIC to produce cars in China.
Reports surfaced in November 2019 that
SAIC is also in talks to
acquire GM's Talegaon plant, along
with fellow Chinese automaker
Great Wall. GM told CNBC it
is exploring strategic options for the
plant. The move out of India was
a retreat for GM and for American
auto industry. Ford is starting
to do the same.
It's trimming some
of its offerings.
Global economy and global auto
market is slowing some.
Certainly true here in the
US, it's true in China.
There's just not enough money to
go around to every single market,
too every single vehicle line.
Look at Daimler and BMW,
they've announced major employee cuts.
But in some ways it might
have been a shrewd move.
The other thing that is happening
in the market that has never
happened before is we are on the
verge of massive disruption of the
industry. You know, we're going to
have a future of electric
vehicles, autonomous vehicles and new
ways to acquire personal
transportation and now
mobility service.
There's all kinds of things.
Nobody knows when that's going to happen
or how it's going to happen,
but it's requiring a
lot of investment.
Companies like GM just can't keep putting
a ton of money into the
future as well as a ton
of money in today's stuff.
While analysts do expect the
Indian automotive market to continue
growing in the foreseeable future, it
did hit a slump in 2019.
Maruti Suzuki sales were growing
until February 2019, but have
slipped every month, year
over year, until October.
Suzuki said in November that the slowing
Indian market was one of the
factors behind the company's falling overall
sales and net income in
its second fiscal quarter.
So I think right now the
market is going through turmoil.
Our economy is struggling and if
we only talk about the automotive
market we are talking about a decline
of minus 14 percent in 2019
calendar year light vehicles.
So obviously this year is the
kind of degrowth happening, which has
not happened in last
two decades, in India.
2020, we are just talking about a
kind of a flat growth but then
going forward, in 2021, '22, '23,
the assumption that our economy
should be back, you know, the
GDP growth rate will start growing
above seven percent. Indian
automotive analysts note the country's
auto industry has to contend
with the relatively recent rise of
mobility services such as ride
hailing. The potential of these
competing technologies is still
unknown, but could affect how
interested in car ownership Indians
remain in the future.
In the end, GM did make some of
the right choices when trying to go
into India. GM was right in
terms of localizing their products
typically for the Indian market, making
it, in line with the taxation
because they were able to save tax.
But, at the end of their day, were
really not able to match with what
the competitors were offering.
If the Indian economy picks back up,
GM may find itself trying to
profitably re-enter the country.
GM's rival Ford, which has been in
India since 1995, said in October
2019 it will create a new
joint venture with Indian manufacturer
Mahindra, which Ford said will help
it develop new products faster
and drive profitable growth.

Which automaker company owns your favorite car brand? You'd be surprised

Which automaker company owns your favorite car brand? You'd be surprised

Vehicle Virals:

Not to disappoint you but most badges you see on your favorite cars are not as transparent as you think they are today
I'll be showing you which automakers own your favorite car brands
My name is Christian, and this is vehicle Virals make sure to subscribe for weekly out of motive content
Let's begin when you think of James Bond, which car brand comes to mind
That's right Aston, Martin today Aston, Martin isn't owned by a larger automaker
But don't think it was always that way it was once under Ford and then sold to a group of investors in
2007 one key investor was Mercedes Benz parent company named leur the tie-in with
Mercedes now gives Aston Martin access to AMG engines for its latest sports cars a sweet deal moving on
BMW for you guys that didn't know it stands for Bay or ish
Motorin work
It's German for barbarian motor works BMW owns two automobile brands
many
Which was relaunched in 2001 and rolls-royce which was acquired in?
2002 you can even see some BMW influences in the rolls-royce
Ghost sedan next one on the list there's a automaker Daimler AG
Ring a bell it probably doesn't but at the same time it probably does because I just mentioned it when I talked about Aston Martin
I know for sure it didn't ring a bell for me when I first did my research its original name was damned ler bends before
transitioned over to the new name damn ler AG in
1998 they own all of Mercedes divisions such as the Benz the AMG and a Maybach
They also homesmart you remember seeing those tiny cars in the road
They could basically pop a u-turn in one lane Daimler. Also owns a truck companies such as Freightliner alright
Let's move on to Fiat that was founded in 1899 it is Italy's largest auto
Manufacturer and also one of the oldest auto makers in the world
They mainly produce railroad engines tractors and airplane engines until
1950 where they then offered a full lineup of cars
Enough with the Boring stuff, which car companies do they control well here
They are a breath Alfa Romeo Maserati and Chrysler which was apart after filing bankruptcy
In 2011 with Chrysler comes all of their brands as well such as Dodge Jeep and Ram
That's right that means the ultra powerful Hellcat is also under Fiat you think that's impressive wait till you see the last
Automaker on this list make sure to watch the whole video the next automaker was actually under Fiat back in the day
That is before ended up separated from its parent company in
2016 ladies and gentlemen Ferrari once known as Fiat crown jewel is now independent and known as a symbol of speed
Luxury and wealth yep
The next car company revolutionized the use of assembly lines for cars its iconic car the Model T
Is widely considered the first massively available automobile any guesses if you guess forward then you're correct?
Ford Onan had major stakes in Land Rover Mazda mercury Aston
Martin just like stated before
Volvo and Jaguar all those brands were either sold or shut down and the only brand they currently own is
Lincoln the next automaker company downsized
Quite a bit after filing for bankruptcy back in 2009 you might have heard a bottom in the news
I mean I couldn't miss them. They were all over the web at the time that is General Motors
Have known as GM the car brands. They currently own are Buick Cadillac Chevrolet GMC
and Holden a brand only
Distributed in Australia this next automaker was known as a new kid on the block back when it was founded in
1948 Honda named after one of the company's founder Soichiro Honda
Sorry about pronounced it wrong
I remember during my teenage years encounter in Honda owners
making fun of Acura owners and vice versa but all it took was to pop open the hood of an Acura Integra to expose the
Honda branding under the hood their reactions
Priceless moving on to Hyundai or Honda whatever you want to call it based in South Korea
I launched his first car in cooperation with Ford in
1968 today hyundai owns a good chunk of kia, it's key competitor
You know what they say if you can't beat them join them the two share many parts among their production such as engine and trans
One interesting move that on the recently did was to branch out its Genesis model to a sub brand of its own
Genesis motors next on the list is Mazda the name originates from our hua
Mazda and Iranian god. That's a cool fact. Isn't it once known as a company that manufactured tools
eventually expanded to automobiles in
1930 the only time I ever had with any other automaker was but Ford owned one third of the company
Later on went on to sell its shares
Which means Mazda is independently owned moving on to one of my favorite automakers of all time?
McLaren a British firm known for building fast sexy sports cars, but hey
That's not all they also run a Formula One team and a division named applied technologies
Which make a unique selection of a product such as bicycles medicine and even solar panels and yes McLaren is?
Independently owned now. Let's talk about Mitsubishi men you might not know but Mitsubishi Corporation
It actually depends largest general trader market. What does general trader marking you ask I'm glad you asked according to Wikipedia
Businesses working with some different type of products which are sold for consumer business or government purposes Mitsubishi became a car maker in
1970 and remain independent for a long time, but now it's controlled by brand not Nissan Alliance talking about right now, Nissan
They actually only 43% of Nissan as many of you guys probably already know Nissan runs his luxury focus division
Infinity before I confirm that this was true
I already had a hunch that they were closely related the same hunch I get when I see
CVS and Walgreens and in Advance Auto Parts in an
Autozone Nissan recently revived Datsun in order to sell economy cars to emerging markets they also own the Romanian car market
Dacia and hold controller stakes in Mitsubishi
Like mentioned previously not really much to say about the following
Automaker company and that is Saab one unique thing is that they specialize in
Aerospace and defense manufacturing as far as automobiles
They're not doing too hot sap isn't quite dead, but it's not doing too
Well the following car maker is a Subaru they doing quite well for themselves
By setting a new annual sales record for ten consecutive years
And if you consider that they are for the most part independent you have to admit. That's quite impressive
I say most part because Toyota owns
16% of Subaru have you ever heard of Tata or Teta?
Not sure which way to say it well
It's a company that currently owns Jaguar and Land Rover that they purchased from Ford back in 2008
according to most haters fame came when it released its Nano vehicle for
$2,500 I mean look at it
What is that banana was originally created to lead India's and middle class away from motorcycles?
Sadly the Nano had many issues and a filter his target by a long shot now. Let's talk about Tesla
There's not really much to say other than it was founded by a group of engineers back in
2003 their cars are currently manufacturing in Fremont
California everybody main independent from any other larger automaker the company recently outlines plans for a new semi truck a super-fast
roadster and a new crossover called numata why moving on to Toyota one of the largest automobile manufacturers in the world
They own
lexus
Dot 2 and Hino Motors, you might also remember the sign brand that was also under the Toyota umbrella
I remember the boxy car the xB and a scion tc sign cars were targeted towards the youth
but after slow sales Toyota ultimately decided to close the blinds for the sign in
2016 the following Swedish automaker was founded back in
1927 known as Volvo it was purchased by a Chinese firm from Ford
Following a huge time investment and money to update the Volvo lineup and for the most part it paid off
Now Bulbul stands as an independent automaker company
I might have just saved the best for last
And this next automaker has to have one of the best lineup some brands under their belt it blows me away
Just thinking about it the automaker is Volkswagen and for those that didn't know it means people's car in German
They quickly rose to the top. Thanks to its beetle selling well worldwide
It is also one of the biggest auto makers in the world ready to be blown away
Let's go they own howdy
Bentley Porsche Bugatti, Lamborghini
C skids man trucks Scania and Ducati
Impressive all guys that will say
I hope you guys found that entertaining and informative at the same time if you liked the video make sure and hit that like button

2020 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD: FULL REVIEW | Does High Country = PEAK of Luxury??

2020 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD: FULL REVIEW | Does High Country = PEAK of Luxury??

Car Confections:

What's going on YouTube?
So a couple weeks back we brought you guys a review of the all-new heavy duty Sierra
But now today it's time to check out Chevy's more popular version the brand new Silverado 2500 HD
Of course
we would like to specially thank our friends at Sutherland Chevrolet in Nicholasville for giving us access to this loaded truck and
If you're in the market for any new Chevy, make sure you stop by their dealership or visit them virtually via their website
Which we provided a link to in the video description
So with that said, let's see if the new Silverado HD is the ultimate combination of capability and lecture
So as always we'll start things off with the exterior styling
Now as many of you probably remember this truck didn't get the best reception when its photos were first unveiled
But I'm happy to report that in person. It's actually a very handsome design
This high country model is the one that has the more traditional design
Since it uses the regular Chevy bowtie grille with thick chrome bars
Bronze accents between them and the high country branding under the right headlight
Surprisingly though the LTZ and every other trim below it now have the non traditional grille which has Chevrolet spelled out across it
As far as the headlights both of the top two trends pretty much have the same design
With two separate housings and stacked LED headlights in the bottom
and
then finally along the bottom both have LED fog lights housed inside either a chrome bumper on the LTZ or a
body-colored one on the hike up
Moving on to the side right now only crew cab is being offered with your choice between the normal and the long lives and
in the back
It adopts the same design the 1500 debuted last year
With Chevrolet written out across the back and the new wiggly LED taillights
So overall while the new heavy-duty is a pretty dramatic departure from the alcohol and model in person
It has a great mixture of traditional and modern cues
Now turning to the wheels heavy duty trucks do have to have smaller ones for capability purposes
Which is why this high country comes standard with 20-inch polished out voice instead of 22s, like on the 1500
As far as the LTZ it has 18s with a similar design
Heading out to the mirrors
They are massive towing ones with just about every feature that could be thrown at them
You have normal and convex mirrors auto dimming heating power folding power
Extension puddle lamps and front and rear facing lighting
We also have blind spot monitoring which is standard on this model and optional on the LTZ
Now beyond BSM importantly you now have some active safety features on board
Ford emergency braking and auto high beam headlights both of which were not available on the outgoing model
But getting stuff done is definitely most important to HD trucks
So checking on the tailgate first
It is the same as on the regular 1500 so it can impressively both lower and raise with the press of a button
the bed lifts in height is now one inch lower this year and it can be accessed through either the back bumper step or
the new side one as
For the bed itself Chevy says it now has class-leading volume 12 different tie-downs
and we also have the power outlet and the cutouts for fifth wheel towing and
Speaking of towing all versions of the HD make absolutely huge numbers
This specific model is rated for eighteen thousand five hundred pounds
But some versions can't go all the way up to a maximum of thirty five thousand five hundred pounds
But anyways, that's it for the outside so now let's go ahead and see how luxurious they have made the cabin
So as you would expect your two higher-end trims do come standard with Chevy's smart entry system as well as remote start
And you get inside the vehicle itself in typical chevy fashion, you're just gonna press the button and it will unlock the door
All right, so taking a look inside the 2020 Silverado HD high country
As you can tell the cabin is a more familiar place than say the exterior. For example
But there are plenty of unique touches and plenty of changes versus the outgoing generation
now as far as your material and color options both the LTZ and the high country do come standard with real leather seating on the
LTZ that's going to be available in jet black or Gideon grey however here on the high country
You have jet black or the more expressive combination of amber and jet black which is what we have. I
Also do want to mention the seating arrangement what you'll be looking at is the bench seating
on all the models except for the high country
This does come standard with the bucket seats, but you can't option on bucket seats to the LTZ
Now turning over here to your door trim since this is the high country
Of course, you do have the best materials of the bunch
So you're looking at a real leather through here with the nice color contrast color here
We do have top touch plastic with more stitching as well as some faux wood accents on the high country
Both the LTZ and the high country do come standard with two-person memory seating
And as far as your windows, they are OneTouch auto up and down for your driver and passenger
Now coming down to your seat
It is 10-way power adjusting with two-way lumbar support on both the high country and the LTZ
And like I already said you do have real leather on both of those trims, but only in the high country
Do you have this really nice looking color contrast design
So you've got like different accents different types of stitching and piping details as well as the stitched
Embroidered name up here on the headrest. It's definitely a very very attractive looking seat
Now as far as getting into the HD, of course, this is a very large truck
But we do have standard running boards. Now just be aware. These are fixed in place. They are not retractable like on the 1500
But as you can see, they are very large so easily put your feet on there
And you do also have a driver side assist grip here
And like I already mentioned this being the high country does mean we have both the best materials and the most visually interesting design
So across your upper part above the gauges here is soft touch. However, this part here is hard touch
But when you go down just a little bit more you come to this color contrast section. This is a leatherette
With color contrast stitching that goes around it and all over this area
Coming down to your lower areas. We have some more of that
Realistic faux wood trim and you get more of that perforated leather and color contrast
Leather design here on the armrests then everything does fit together very well also
Now it is worth mentioning that on the high country. You have the unique
kind of bronze finished
Material that goes around here as well as on the steering wheel. Like I said that's exclusive to the high country
Now on your top two trims you do have standard push-button start
And when you press it, you're gonna find this 8 inch display fire up on the LT, LTZ and the high country as standard equipment
All right, so checking out the gauges here
What you're looking at is the premium version this version comes on the high country only and has the eight inch
reconfigurable gauge cluster display here in the middle
This is optional as well on the LTZ
But regardless of which one you choose you actually have pretty much the same information
More or less basically your gauges of those top four gauges are rendered digitally on this
But you have options to change the design and do things with like safety systems
within this screen
Now in addition to that high country is also going to come standard with a very very nice
15-inch head-up display, this is the largest in this segment
And it's one of the largest I've ever seen definitely very vivid
Can contain a lot of different information once you start moving and if you change the settings around
and
Coming back to the steering wheel
Of course, you're gonna find a nice leather wrap steering wheel across all the models and you do actually have hydraulic power steering
So that's kind of a more of an old-school heavy-duty type of thing
We do have some cross stitching on the steering wheel
like I said
We have the bronze on the high country. And then as far as your buttons, you do have buttons for your cruise control
Heating on both the LTZ and the high country and then on this side you get your multi-function display buttons phone and voice controls
As far as steering wheel itself it is always manually tilt and telescoping
As far as your shifter you still have a color mounted shifter just like always
So obviously that's very simple you're just going to pull down for Drive
You do have these little toggles if you want to control shifting manually
you will notice just like the
1500 Silverado the towing button as well as your other drive mode. They've been relocated over here to this little toggle
So you just scroll through as you can see you do have a normal and an off-road mode
And then you can flip over to the other side for the towing mode. And you also have your four-wheel drive controls, right
Now when we go into reverse here
You will find a standard backup camera on both the LTZ and the high country, of course
But what we're looking at here is the upgraded surround vision camera system
This is an option on both the LTZ and the high country
And we've discussed it previously and both the Sierra as well as other GM vehicles
But this is one of the best camera systems in the entire auto industry
You have just an absolute ton of views really really great resolution as well
So I'll point out some few of the important ones. This is obviously a good view for you to backup
For your trailer you have kind of a 3d view for getting out of tight spaces
You have side view so you don't grind against anything
We also have a bed camera which is thrown in with this surround vision system
and we can't activate it right now because obviously we don't have a trailer but
This does do the same thing as the Sierra which we pointed out last month
Which you can basically see through the trailer definitely a class exclusive feature and super super neat
Now having that column-mounted shifter does have plenty of benefits when it comes to interior storage obviously you've got a ton of it here so
You get a little area right here on the top to start off with but underneath here
We have an absolute massive amount of space. this is super deep
very wide you have a removable mat as well as
Illumination and you'll find one of your standard USB is one of your USB type C's and an aux jack
Moving forward we've got our two cupholders a small area here
Another small area here and then this large pad here does double as a wireless phone charger
As far as other odds and ends we have some area along the side
We have some space up here pretty deep space actually up on the top of the dashboard
And then just a ton a ton of space in the door trim
So you're definitely going to have plenty of space for whatever equipment. You need to get the job done
As far as other controls in this area
here are your other USB ports another 12-volt outlet a
Household stop outlet and then you also have your controls for your trailer brake
This being the diesel above that. We have the exhaust brake system. We've got some buttons for our safety systems tailgate release
traction control this turns on and off the outlet and then this is before
Rolling down all the windows at once. I've never seen that button before on any
Trucks, but definitely an interesting and handy feature
Now the next stop up the dashboard here is our climate controls on both the top two trims it is dual zone automatic
and as you'd expect for a truck focused on ergonomics
It is very simple. You have three knobs to control your main functions here
You also have your zones located right here as well as your other buttons
So there's really nothing that you need to consult the display for though. You can have it up there if you prefer
As far as the seat controls you will have the three-stage heating on both the LTZ and the high country
However you it is standard
The ventilation is standard only on the high country or you can option it on via the convenience package on the LTZ
Alright and now we are up at the audio system so the six-speaker audio system is standard equipment
However, this being the loaded model we have the seven-speaker Bose premium sound system. So we'll go ahead and take a sample
Overall sound quality is excellent
And now that pretty much brings us up here to our Chevy infotainment system three this of course is new to the heavy duty trucks
So we'll go ahead and take a quick look now as far as your main features here
I just want to point out a couple of the highlights and the most important things
Because this is the same Chevy implement three system that you've seen in other models
So the first thing I want to point out is that we do have navigation
This is the integrated navigation system the newest upgraded version and that's standard on just the high country
But you can't auctioned on to the LTZ if you want to
Regardless though you will find that you have standard apple carplay and android auto and
Those of course do have built-in navigation functions if you want to use those instead
Additionally, we do have a Wi-Fi hotspot
This is where you'll find the Wi-Fi name as well as the password to sign in and this is included free
For a three gigabyte trial or the first month of ownership
But anyways, that's pretty much the main features of the Chevy infotainment 3 system
However, we do have a much more detailed tech help video available
For those of you who want to learn more about it a link to that is provided in the video description
I
and heading on up here we do have a auto dimming mirror with your three home like universal remotes mounted right here
But continuing the trend of having more cameras than basically any other vehicle I've ever been in
We also have GM's rear camera mirror
Then coming on up here go find that we have a moonroof
This is actually not standard on any of the trim levels. It is a
$995 option on both of them
And as you can see, it's the standard size unit. There is no panoramic moon available at this time
But overall the cabin of the high country Silverado HD is certainly a great place to spend time
Just like with other HD vehicles
You have this extreme mixture of both a lot of storage a lot of capability
But now with this new model we add in a ton of luxury and a ton of Technology
So anyways that does it for the front areas
So now go ahead and hand it off to my brother Mason who will check out the back areas
All righty
So hitting around to the back seats of the all-new 2020 silverado heavy-duty
You are going to find a good amount of space as you would expect
Now we are covering only the LTZ in the high country. So that is available in this crew cab configuration
So you are going to find a lot of legroom
Technically it's rated at forty three point four inches of rear legroom and forty point one inches of rear headroom
Which like I said is absolutely massive
You're not going to have any issues in terms of space and it's right on par with that of the Ford f250 Super Duty
Now turning over to the door trim. It is really nicely appointed especially on this high country with the color contrast
So we do have a brown portion right here as well as black contrast and some of that real wood trim
now we do have a auto down window and
down below that we do have a lot of door storage as you can see there is tons of it and
Turning over to the seat itself. Like I mentioned we do have that color contrast design
It looks very very premium and it is also very comfortable
Now getting in is quite easy on this high country, so just step on the running boards you do also have an assist grip
Now here in the center, of course Chevy is going to give you plenty of features
especially on this high country model
so up top when you have two cupholders with a little storage area in between and
down below that you will find standard air vents across all of the models and that's a feature that wasn't even offered at all on
the previous Silverado heavy duty
Now off to the side you will also find a three-stage heated rear seats
which are included standard on the high country model and down below that you will find a smart charging USB a USB type-c and
a 12 volt power outlet
Now, of course we do have a nice fold down arm rest
It is what the rep has two cupholders inside in another little storage area. I
Do also want to point out that this power rear window glass is high-country exclusive as well
And up top. We do even have a a nice cut out for extra Headroom as well as some LED lighting and
a coat hook
Now as far as where legroom is concerned like I mentioned this is a a ballute massive amount of space
So behind your seating position
I probably have about two foot of space between my knees and the seat back and my feet can easily slide up underneath the seat
And so as you can see, you can basically completely stretch out back here
Now, of course the seats themselves are very practical since this is a heavy-duty truck after all so you do have several features associated with
them you can pull this strap down to kind of fold it down like this and
Down below that you will find this strap and this strap actually opens part of the seat back and will give you a little storage
Area that is completely hidden from view. So if there's something really valuable it would be a great spot to put it
Now of course
You can also fold the seat up
so you have to do is grab underneath and it does fold right up and
Underneath you do even have a nice little storage box to put your tools and stuff
and
you know if you had something really big you could pull both sides up and
Fit like something really big back here in case it was like raining and you didn't want in the bed. That is an option here
Now coming over to the passenger seat it is the same adjustment as a driver
And in front of the passenger you do have a nice color contrast design with the signature two part opening glovebox
So you have a nice storage compartment right here and down below you have your standard glovebox
So it makes for a lot of different storage configurations
And up top we do have a Sun Visor with LED lights and a mirror and it does also detach and except
But anyway guys that's all the practical stuff about the Silverado heavy duty
So now let's go ahead and take it out in the road and see how that diesel engine performs
All right, so now that takes us to the heart of this beast
two different powertrains
they're both 6.6 liters, but we have the option between a v8 and
It's her bogies are now the standard gas powered v8
That produces 401 horsepower and 464 pound-feet of torque
However
The vast majority of people go ahead and bite the about
$9,000 bullet and
get the
6.6 liter turbo diesel engine
because that produces
445 horsepower but
910 pound-feet of torque, so it's absolutely insane
You know and it's what allows this vehicle to tow just about anything. You can possibly throw at it
As far as your transmission you'll be looking at a 6-speed automatic with the gas powered model 810 speed automatic with this diesel model
And then of course you do have the option between two-wheel drive or four-wheel drive on this high country. Its four-wheel drive modeling
And then lastly in regards to your fuel economy
It's not EPA rated because it's so massive
However, a lot of people have been curious to see what kind of mileage actually gets and this particular model gives us the opportunity to
Do that because somebody has been driving it for
112 miles and so I obviously don't know how they've been driving it. They could've been flooring it continuously. Whatever
But the mileage on average is a 10 point 3 miles per gallon right now
But anyways fuel economy is not what you get this truck for. It's about that
910 pal feet of torque. So let's go ahead and take it on the road and see how that is
So first taking off here 2020 Silverado heavy-duty turbo diesel
This pattern is just ridiculous. I mean, I don't know any other way to really describe it
Just like in the Sierra we drove like two or three weeks ago
it's really no less shocking here on the second round because it's just so
effortless
Like I'm gonna use you can see it visually
You just kind of put your foot down
and without
Any drama whatsoever like not a bunch of noise
nothing
Just rocket. Let's trade off down the road
And you're going 60 and the blink of an eye
With a truck that it literally feels like a semi with a gigantic heavy-duty truck
You know and just cruising down here we are going like 55 miles an hour and it is just so smooth in here
You know
That was one of the things that impressed me the most about this year that we drew was talking about is just how smooth these
trucks ride
You know here in the high country
I mean it literally feels like a luxury car through and through you can't feel any types of bumps in the road and
it really is just a
absolute superb ride in here
It's very very impressive
a little bit a turbo whistle that you can hear
Definitely a pretty cool sound and just adds to the effect of the speed
Just like that up to highway state
It's really just a lot of fun, you know, it's not only very practical and usable, you know, if you're gonna tow something
You know, it actually is really fun to drive
Right. It really makes sense to me why
most people go for the diesel because
well, the gas has some of this experience of course, but
The torque on this is just insane and you there's nothing else that has this type of power
You know
Besides these heavy-duty trucks. That's the there are the only types of vehicles that can can do stuff like this
And also just kind of the fact that
Literally anything you look at you're bigger than besides maybe that dump truck out there
You're actually bigger than everything else on the road. I mean even SUVs like that Kia Sorento
It looks like a little ant on the road. So it really kind of just gives you a really nice commanding presence
which I know I
Mean all of you guys who are looking to buy in. This class are definitely looking for a commanding view of the room
And you have a lane departure warning as well since you kind of look down I'll see you on the lanes
You know, it's kind of almost like a video game type of perspective when you look down at the lanes
I'm noticing compared to the Sierra AT4 we drove
Feels a little bit firmer as far as the ride quality and like I had mentioned in that review
That being the offer a focused model does come with softer Springs, you know to have that articulation available to you
so
You know, this has a little bit more a little finer body control
But also a firmer ride
Versus kinda a body roll and a softer ride just different things to keep in mind
And they're really the last thing I want to discuss is just the 10 speed automatic transmission
It simply does an excellent job, I mean it is really really really smooth
So in conclusion if you are in the market for a semi-truck
You should really just come and look at one of these instead
so I can tell you this is a whole heck of a lot more luxurious a lot more high-tech and
It would definitely win a drag race next to a semi truck
Like I said is amazing this time around as it was when I first experienced it with the Sierra. It's just a remarkable
overall package
All righty, so let's go ahead and discuss the pricing of this 2020 silverado heavy duty
So you're going to find very competitive pricing with all the rest of the heavy duty trucks
So all of the prices that I'm about to quote you are for the crew cab regular bed in the two wheel drive versions
So just keep that in mind as I named off these prices
So for the very base work truck that's going to be forty one thousand four hundred
The custom is forty three thousand six hundred
The LT is forty four thousand six hundred
The LTZ is going to go up to fifty three thousand three hundred
And then finally you have this top dog high country trim, which is going to start at sixty one thousand one hundred dollars
Now this particular high country is definitely highly optioned as we do have pretty much everything we can add
In like true mentioned we have opted for the Duramax diesel, which is a nine thousand seven hundred fifty dollar option
We also have the high country deluxe package for three thousand and sixty five dollars. We have the optional sunroof for nine ninety five
we have optional white paint for nine ninety five as well as all Weather Floor Liners four to ten as
was the trailer tire pressure monitor for 50 and then
We do actually have a discount of five hundred dollars for the high country deluxe package
so all told when you add any destination charge of one thousand five hundred ninety five dollars you are going to come to
77260 as your price for this pretty much fully loaded
High country model which is worth noting if your cross shopping this let's say with the GMC Sierra Denali
That's probably its closest
competitor here
It is going to be a little bit cheaper from high country to the fully loaded Denali
And you are going to see you know a little bit of a price discount for them
Well guys we've enjoyed watching one of the first in-depth looks at the all-new

Cars.com:

at a time when truck makers seem to be
falling all over themselves
making the most luxurious and most
expensive trim packages
it's nice to see somebody throwing a
little love to the no nonsense trim
package
and that's what we have here at Chevy
it's called the Silverado custom
which is a name for Chevrolet because
all the way back to the early seventies
basically what we have here is just a
simply styled half-ton pickup truck
to keep the prices down so you have
front and rear chrome accents
on the front bumper and rear bumper
chrome surrounds on the grill
20 inch rims and your choice between a
5-3 lead rb8
or a 4-3 leader v6 the interior all
although meant to be basic no-nonsense
is still pretty well equipped
40/20/40 front seats cloth seats are
going to be very durable
you get your choice between rubber mats
or carpeting
for the interior you get tilt steering
wheel
cruise control electric windows and door
locks
and if you get the four wheel drive you
get the manual shift
on the floor we like what chevy is doing
here
offering a a decently equip pickup truck
that looks pretty nice but has a
a no nonsense no frills interior we
think that's going to resonate pretty
well with the
that average truck guy whether he's a
fleet buyer or personal use guy
this could be the truck for them this
two wheel drive version that I'm sitting
on is just
around thirty four thousand dollars
four-wheel drive versions are going to
be around thirty seven thousand dollars

Comparing 3.0L Diesels to Find the Best in 2020

Comparing 3.0L Diesels to Find the Best in 2020

4WD Magazine:

Perry Mack here without a lot of fanfare
let's get to it
and take a look at which diesel engine ranks #1 in half-ton trucks for 2020.
General Motors introduced the all-new 3.0
litre Duramax for the 2020 Chevy Silverado
and GMC 1500 in June 2019
this rounds out the diesel offerings for half-ton trucks from the big 3:
Ram, Ford and GM.
Now if you're a brand loyalist
then it won't matter to you which is the
best diesel engine
however if you're open to some brand exploration
let's take a look at which diesel ranks #1 for half-ton trucks in 2020.
There have always been pros and cons to owning a diesel engine
and whether or not you
should own one
still depends a little bit on your driving, towing and payload needs.
However many of the cons from previous years
are slowly diminishing
to the point where your choice of gas or diesel is a matter of wallet size and not necessarily needs.
The new diesels are quiet,
have great fuel economy,
require a little additional maintenance,
but open the doors of opportunity for
fuel efficient towing for work and play.
You may not take advantage of them this
year
but what will you want to tow or haul in three to five years
or what if you decide to transform your truck into the ultimate overland vehicle?
The Ram EcoDiesel was first introduced in 2011 in the Grand Cherokee
and then in 2014 to the RAM 1500.
This second generation VM Motori an Italian subsidiary of FCA built engine
is a V6 which generates 240 horsepower at 3600 RPM
and 420 pound-feet of torque at 2,000 RPM.
With an epa rated fuel economy of 20, 28, 23
miles per gallon; city, highway and combined.
By the numbers for 2020
it has one of the lowest performing engines
but not by much
and since it has a roughly 7
year production run
there is a proven history behind the engine.
Call it the devil you know.
As Ram has had time to iron out the wrinkles
and settle some
emission violation lawsuits.
The aftermarket has also had time to design and test engine upgrades
so you can save some cash buying a used Ram EcoDiesel
and then enhance the engine to suit your needs.
The third generation of the EcoDiesel
will appear in the 2020 Ram 1500
producing 260 horsepower
at 3,600 rpm
and 480 pound-feet of torque at 1600 RPM.
With a fuel efficiency virtually guaranteed to top the 30 mile per gallon mark
on the highway
be careful buying the diesel Ram 1500
2020 though.
As the second gen engine will still be offered
in the 2020 Ram 1500 classic.
Alongside with the third gen in other trims
including for the first time
the off-road equipped mouth-watering Ram Rebel.
The unseen, undocumented side of the equation for the second gen
is really interesting.
The rock-solid design architecture lends itself to aftermarket upgrades.
That could reportedly boost the engine to over 500 horsepower
which means there
will be some great opportunities
to get an affordable and powerful diesel truck.
The Ford 3.0 litre power stroke
ended Rams solo reign in 2018
when Ford introduced their new 3.0 litre diesel into the F150
Like the EcoDiesel
it is a 3.0 litre, 60° V6.
But in another case of one-upmanship
over the 2nd gen EcoDiesel
Ford has this engine producing 250 horsepower at 3250 rpm
and 440 pound feet of torque at 1750 rpm.
Now the extra 10 horsepower that kicks in a little sooner than the second gen EcoDiesel
isn't the big story here though.
It's the fact that the extra 20 pound
feet of torque kick in at 1750 rpm.
That's 250 rpm sooner
and they stick around until 2250 rpm.
250 rpm higher.
Behind the wheel it means more pulling
power earlier
and the relatively flat torque curve means it sticks around longer.
Bottom line if you're looking at buying at 2019 3.0 litre, by the numbers,
the power stroke wins.
Ford also managed to squeeze out 22, 30, 25 miles per
gallon; city, highway, combined.
A 2 mile per gallon bump compared to the EcoDiesel.
Although the fuel economy success has to be shared with Fords 10R80 10-speed transmission.
We have two great videos just on the
3.0 litre powerstroke
and i'll include those links below
and then boom GM's 3.0 litre Duramax has landed in the 2020 Chevy Silverado
and once again
the landscape has changed.
Stepping away from the classic V design,
Chevy engineers designed an inline 6 turbo diesel
that generates a max 277 horsepower at 3,750 RPM
and 460 pound-feet of torque at just 1500 RPM.
More torque and it's delivered sooner than the Power Stroke
and the Duramax
delivers it right through to 3,000 rpm.
Chevy has pushed some design boundaries
compared to Ram and Ford.
They've reduced the weight of the engine
by moving to a cast aluminum block
compared to a graphite iron block
and taken the high
pressure rail to 36,250 psi.
Compared to 29,000 in the other two.
Which has led some detractors of the design
to question its longevity
which is typical when a new designing technology is introduced.
Time will tell if they are
right.
The engine is mated to a 10 speed transmission,
the 10L80, designed in conjunction with Ford
and although at the time of writing the official EPA
fuel economy numbers have not been released
we expect the highway number to
come in north of 30 miles per gallon
but not as high as the 40 miles per gallon
estimated by a number of optimists.
We test-drove the new configuration in June
of 2019 and were really impressed.
It is a peppy, quiet, half-ton diesel that
has great acceleration and handling for a half-ton truck.
It's a shame we weren't able to test the towing or off-road capability at the same time
which is
something Ford impressively let us do.
Which diesel engine in a half-ton is
the best for 2020?
We're gonna give it to the engine with a track record, the devil we know
and the big potential with a little bit of tweaking.
So for us it's the 2nd gen Ram EcoDiesel only available in the 1500 classic in 2020.
After that it's a close race for us
between Ford, Chevy and RAM.
We've driven the 3.0 litre off-road and towing
so I would be confident buying one
and they've had two years in production under their belt by 2020.
The brand-new 3.0 litre Duramax in the Chevy
is really great to drive and
I've had great track record with GM trucks.
Hauling and towing to the max
and the same goes for RAM.
So I have faith in their engineers.
Now, no brand is flawless
Do you agree with my choice for the best half-ton diesel engine in 2020?
If not, please tell us why and what would you buy in 2020 in the comments below.

Brothers bond over co-owned 1972 Chevy C3 Corvette | Why I Drive #20

Brothers bond over co-owned 1972 Chevy C3 Corvette | Why I Drive #20

Hagerty:

- [JJ] My brother and I've done
basically done everything together.
We've been best friends
and we've never had any problems sharing.
So instead of having one car individually,
we had two cars collectively,
and we made one of them badass.
A lot of people thought that it would have
created tension or conflict between us,
but I think it's only
exemplified how strong
our relationship is.
(engine revving)
- [Pierre] Car is a 1972 Corvette.
We were looking at a couple
different classic cars,
and the C3 was the one we both
agreed that we really liked.
Just has these lines
to it that are sharper
than I think that you're
gonna find on any other car.
Just looks so iconic.
You can just appreciate a
car that's 47 years old.
One of the things that was really fun
about getting a classic car,
was that, I don't think JJ and
I knew anything about cars,
when we first got one.
It's really incited the
process of wanting to learn
more about cars and engines.
- (JJ) Being a first
generation citizen with parents
who are European, you don't
necessarily always feel
the same tie to your home country
that someone who has deeper roots.
So I think part of the beauty
of getting an American car
with being a multi-cultural
and a global citizen
is the fact that it
really brings us back to
the home that we grew up in.
I'm living abroad now, but
when we do get to go out,
it's pretty awesome.
Most of it's actually
reminiscent of the first
road trip we took together.
During the road trip,
all we ever did was bond
further and faster,
regardless of the snow storms,
the hail, the rain coming
through the windshield.
All we ever did was bunker down together
and keep on persevering.
(engine revs)
It's a really nice
representation of the bond
that I have with my brother.
- [Pierre] We realize
that, she's a driver,
and she wants to be driven.
- [JJ] You, know, it has
it's own little issues.
The pop up headlights are
permanently popped up.
It's little quirks like that.
But at the end of the
day, this will absolutely,
forever and always be a driver.
I love every time I hit that accelerator.
I love the power band,
and just being able to
really feel that
acceleration when you hit it.
It's not that it accelerates faster
than anything else I've driven.
It's just the way it does
it, is a whole lot more fun.
- [Pierre] One of my favorite things
about owning a classic car
is that anytime you stop at a gas station,
you're filling up, everybody
wants to come talk to you.
And it just gives you an
additional bonding experience
that I think most people don't get.
The car has more rattles
than a baby can play with.
She drinks gas for a living.
She shakes when you take
her above 80 miles per hour.
And yet I've never been
more in love with an
inanimate object.
I'm Pierre Peterson.
- I'm JJ Petersen.
- [Together] And this is why I drive.

2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 High Country Review (2015 Version) - Nexccelerator

2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 High Country Review (2015 Version) - Nexccelerator

Nexccelerator:

Hello everyone, and Happy New Year.
I'm Michael Land, and welcome to another episode,
of Nexccelerator.
And the vehicle that I'm sitting in right
now, is in the all-new redesigned
2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500.
And the Silverado was redesigned to not only
give itself both a brand new look,
but to also give itself a more competitive
edge in the full-size truck market.
But, does the all new Silverado have what
it takes to be
very a competitive full size truck, against
the similar offerings that are out there,
such as the all new redesigned
Toyota Tundra?
Well let's have some fun, and figure that
out.
Now like I've said, this is the all new redesigned
2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500.
However, this particular version, is the newly
introduced High Country Edition
trim-line of this vehicle.
So taking a look at the exterior of this luxurious
truck,
the Silverado doesn't only contain Halogen
Projector Beamed Headlights,
but it also has Fog lights that give it both
a fancy and contemporary
appearence.
But also looking at the left, right, and top
sides, that same look
that was just now revealed is carried on over
through the remainder of the truck.
Also along with that, there are two powered
heated side mirrors equipped,
with one turn signal indicator a piece on
each side.
Now looking at the back of the Silverado,
there's a single exhaust system
equipped with the tailpipe being located on
the right side.
On a side note, the back of the Silverado
has a trailer hitch in where you're able
to hook up a ball mount hitch and trailers
that have either a 7-pin or 4-pin
connector respectfully.
In addition, the pickup features four rear
parking sensors, with two on the left,
and two on the right, alongside with the other
four front parking sensors that you saw
earlier, which adds up for a total of eight.
Also, the truck even comes with two rear mounted
bumper steps, with one being on the left
and the other on the right, that gives the
benefit of a doubt to make the ease-of-access
of tying stuff down a breeze.
As for the taillights however, they don't
only fit extremely well, but they also
give an awesome compliment to the rest of
the fancy exterior of this vehicle.
Getting to the truck bed of the Silverado,
the newly-introduced
EZ Lift tailgate drops down very softly. Not
to mention that it does also
offer plenty of flexible hauling capabilities
that would easily handle any
kind of load.
On a side note, this particular Silverado
also comes equipped with the optional
integrated LED lighting system, in case if
you needed assistance on seeing
better on where to best place the tie down's
to secure your load successfully.
Now located underneath bed of the truck is
where you'll discover the Silverado's
spare tire.
In addition, the necessary parts to install
the spare tire are conveniently located
behind the rear seats for easy access.
Plus, there's also an individual spare tire
access compartment located on the right
side, next to the license plate holder, that
allows for easy access to remove the
tire from underneath the truck, which makes
it a piece of cake.
Also, if you want more cargo capacity in the
Silverado, you can easily fold the
bottom portion of both of the back seats up
to make that a reality, if you wish.
So opening the door to the Silverado, it has
a brown leather interior,
with both a 6 way driver and 6 way front passenger
seat, all with power adjustments.
On a side note, both of the driver and front
passenger headrests also feature
a special leather stitched High Country logo
to give the interior a look that's
both inviting and unique.
Now one way to start the engine of this Silverado
is by taking the key fob that you
see me holding up in my hand, hit the lock
button, then press and hold down the
clockwise arrow button once to start it up,
in which I'm about to demonstrate
right now.
As you just now witnessed, the Silverado immediately
starts right up
like a pro without any kind of mechanical
issues at all, even when the outside
temperature is at 50 degrees Fahrenheit as
you're seeing right now on your screen.
In addition, to turn the engine off, just
gently press the
clockwise arrow button once, and it'll shut
itself down instantly.
Also, another way to start it up, is to take
the black Chevrolet ignition key that you
see me holding up in my hand. Then immediately
afterwards, put the key inside the
ignition, and turn it clockwise to bring the
engine to life.
Now getting to the engine area of the Silverado,
it isn't only well laid out, but
it's also easily accessible as well, in which
I'll touch up more on that here very shortly.
But focusing on the power-plant offering,
the Silverado has a 5.3 Liter, 355hp,
EcoTec3 V8 engine that punches out 383 pound
ft of torque @ 4100 rpm.
In addition, this 5.3 Liter Ecotec3 V8 engine
is just one out of the three newly
introduced engine choices for all the new
Silverado. Not only the engine come's
equipped with direct injection for better
combustion enhancement, but it even
has active fuel management technology in where
it increases the fuel efficiency
whenever less engine horsepower is needed.
With that you get a suitable 16 mpg in the
city and 22 on the highway.
But with the EPA combination, you get a well-rounded
18 mpg
overall, which is indeed an outstanding accomplishment
for a full size pickup.
Now focusing on the different parts of the
engine area, the battery compartment
is located on the back left side, while the
radiator is located directly right
next to it on the middle left side, with the
Air Intake system placed alongside it,
on the front left side.
However, both the oil and oil dipstick are
located right next to the engine, while
the brake fluid compartment is conveniently
located next to both the oil and oil
dipstick, on the middle right side.
Also, the windshield washer fluid compartment
is conveniently located diagonally
across from the brake fluid compartment, on
the front right side.
So now taking a look at the interior of the
all new Silverado, besides having
the brown leather interior seats that I mentioned
earlier,
it doesn't only have an inspired western-theme
to it, but it also manages
to keep things really simple also, in which
I'll get into more on that here
in just a little bit.
Now the type of steering wheel that this particular
Silverado has, is a four spoke
leather wrapped steering wheel with a light
tan colored contrast stitching going
across all over it that also includes additional
controls on both the left
and right middle portions.
Now located on the left side of the steering
wheel is where you'll find both the
turn signal indicator and the windshield wiper
controls.
However, other additional controls such as
the trailer brake adjustment,
4 wheel drive system, and headlight controls
are all conveniently located on the
left side, right next to the steering wheel.
Also, the emergency hazard indicator is located
behind the steering wheel,
for additional convenience.
Now to be able to adjust the steering wheel,
such as moving it forward or away
from you, just easily push the lever, which
is labeled #1 on the driver's manual,
down and adjust it to where it's comfortable
for you.
Then when you're finished, lift it up to lock
it in place.
In addition, to move the steering wheel up
or down, pull and release the lever
that's labeled #2 that you saw in the previous
photograph, and adjust it to where
it'll be easy to use. Then when you're satisfied
with the height adjustment, let
the lever go to have it locked in place.
Now the transmission equipped on the Silverado
is a 6 speed, column mounted styled,
automatic transmission, with both
a tow-haul mode as well as manual
shift ability in where the shifting buttons
are easily located on the gear
shifter itself, along with the Electronic
E-brake being located on the bottom
left corner of the driver's side.
Also, the truck even comes with an integrated
backup camera, providing
easy-to-see distance lines that also turn
along with the steering wheel
at the same time, making the task of backing
up really simple as much as possible.
Proceeding on over to the middle area of the
Silverado, it offers multiple and
beneficial flexibilities, such as 3 USB Ports,
2 12V Power-outlets,
and 1 household A/C outlet.
Now located right above those plug-ins that
I just now mentioned,
are the controls for the pedal adjustment,
traction control, LED Cargo Lights,
Front and Rear Parking Sensors, and the Lane
Departure Warning System in where
the driver's seat would vibrate if you were
to drift off into another lane
without using the turn signal indicator.
In addition, the air conditioning controls
are located above the recently
mentioned switches, that feature heated and
cooled seat controls for both the
driver and front passenger.
Also, the Chevrolet MyLink system is located
right above the air conditioning controls.
Equipped with that are 6 Bose speakers, with
the first one being located
on the bottom portion of the driver side door.
In addition, the second and third speakers
are both located on the left and right
portions of the dashboard, while the fourth
speaker is located on the bottom
portion of the front passenger side door.
Also, the fifth and sixth speakers are both
located on the bottom portions of
both the left and right rear doors.
Now the Chevrolet MyLink system comes with
AM,FM and Sirius/XM Satellite Radio,
that's also equipped with HD Radio capability.
But when you press audio on the touchscreen,
both the station name and
frequency number are displayed. However, both
the name of the artist and
song title are only shown in the XM View,
in which this particular
trim-line of the Silverado is equipped with
it.
In addition, when you press the browse function
on the touchscreen, it displays
the other different radio stations that are
available to listen to. Not to
mention that a yellow HD logo will display
in between both the station number,
and call letters, if available.
Also, when you press the menu button on the
touchscreen, it exposes a generous
variety of options, such as controlling the
audio tone settings, auto volume,
and updating the station list, being a few
examples.
On top of that, when you press the phone button,
you have the ability to pair up
a Bluetooth enabled cell phone while also
having the benefit of using the
controls on the right middle portion of the
steering wheel to control
the functions that are displayed.
On a side note, you can also use the same
controls that were just now mentioned
to scroll either left, right, and up or down
through the various
in-dash gauge cluster menus, such as viewing
the tire pressure being one example.
Plus, when you press the navigation function,
it displays a map of the vehicle's
current location like you're seeing right
now. Not to mention that it even
allows you to zoom in and out and even search
for various destinations too.
When you're even in the settings mode, it
exposes the different variety of
vehicle settings to use, such as making changes
to both the time and date,
making adjustments to the touchscreen display,
and even viewing the latest
system software information, being some of
the examples.
Hovering on over to the Pandora mode, the
functionality is very similar to what
you would navigate through in the audio mode,
with the only difference being that
it has a play, back, and forward button.
Transferring on to the weather function, it
shows the conditions on what
both the outside temperature and weather are
like in real time. Plus,
you can even also see what the future weather
forecast will be like, whether it's
hour by hour, in the next 36 hours, as well
as even in the next 5 days too.
Also, you even have a menu section in where
you can access weather advisory
info, be informed about weather alerts, and
see the map legend as well.
And just like the map function, the weather
mode also features the ability
to either zoom in, or zoom out, depending
on what your preferences are.
Now another way that you can also get some
use out of the Chevrolet MyLink system
is that you can even take advantage of the
hands-free voice command system to
navigate through it also.
In addition, I will go ahead and activate
the hands-free voice command system
to show you on what kind of general commands
you can say to get the best
possible experience.
[Chevrolet Voice Command System]: Command
Please.
[Michael Land]: Help.
[Chevrolet Voice Command System]: You can say phone, audio, navigation,
weather, or OnStar.
To call a number quicker, say call followed
by the number, like this,
call 555-1212.
To quickly change what is playing on an audio
system, say commands like, tune to
FM 101.1, or play followed by the name of
an artist, album or song.
Or to enter a destination, say destination
address.
[Michael Land]: Cancel.
[Chevrolet Voice Command System]: Goodbye.
Now I'll activate the voice command system
again, but to show you the commands
for the Onstar mode this time.
[Chevrolet Voice Command System]: Command
Please.
[Michael Land]: OnStar.
[Chevrolet Voice Command System]: Okay. OnStar
Ready.
[Michael Land]: OnStar Info.
[Chevrolet Voice Command System]: You can say, messages, minutes, my number,
or virtual advisor.
[Michael Land]: Go back.
[Chevrolet Voice Command System]: Go Back, returning to the main menu.
OnStar Ready.
[Michael Land]: Hands-Free Calling.
[Chevrolet Voice Command System]: You can say, call, directory, redial, store,
minutes, or commands.
[Michael Land]: Go back.
[Chevrolet Voice Command System]: Go Back, returning to the main menu.
OnStar Ready.
[Michael Land]: Turn-by-Turn Directions.
[Chevrolet Voice Command System]: All right, now say plan route, directory, or store.
[Michael Land]: Go back.
[Chevrolet Voice Command System]: Go Back,
returning to the main menu. OnStar Ready.
[Michael Land]: Cancel.
[Chevrolet Voice Command System]: Cancel. Thank You. Goodbye.
Now located underneath the three USB ports,
2 12V Power-outlets, and 1 AC
Household outlet, is an open center storage
area, with the main cup-holders
being directly behind it, and the Silverado's
center console, being right behind
the main cup-holders, respectfully.
Inside of the center console, you not only
receive a generous amount of extra
storage space, you even get a storage tray
in the middle to where it can be used
to store items like loose leaf papers or folders,
if you wish.
Now Next to the middle storage tray on the
left, there's not only another 12V
power-outlet, but just off to the right side
of the tray,
there's even two additional USB ports, an
auxiliary port, and a memory card slot,
while an LED light is located right above
the tray on top of that as well.
In addition, the center console not only opens
smoothly, but closing it is also a
piece of cake too.
Now moving on over to the top roof area of
the interior, there are two sun-visors
for both the driver and front passenger, that
feature both their own vanity mirror
and lights, with the Bluetooth microphone
being located right next to the driver
side sun-visor.
In between the sun-visors are the sunglasses
holder, garage home-link system,
the power rear window controls, and front
interior LED lamps, which are all
located right next to each other.
So beginning with the front interior LED lamps
first, you can either have both
of the lights completely turned off like you're
seeing right now, or have both
of them stay on, as well have the lamps to
come on or off when you open the door,
via the front interior door light switch located
at the top of the screen,
if you wish.
Now to operate the power rear window, just
simply push up on the button that you
see in the middle to open it up to let some
fresh air in. But to close the window,
just push down on the same button, to close
up the window.
Now placed right next to the front interior
door light switch, is the
sunglasses holder, in where it let's you either
store a pair of sunglasses,
or other small items of any kind.
Transferring on over to the dual glove box
now, it's got a decent amount of storage
capacity to where you can easily store about
anything that you can imagine,
such as the driver's manual, or even an extra
set of keys, as being a couple
of examples.
In addition to the airbag that you saw on
the steering wheel eariler, there are
also two side curtain airbags, with one being
next to the driver's seat,
and the other one being next to the front
passenger seat.
Plus, there's even two seat-mounted airbags
equipped on both the driver and
front passenger seats, and one equipped on
the front passenger side of the
dashboard, which adds up for a total of six
airbags, all together.
Now proceeding on over to the driver side
door of the silverado, it doesn't only
provide the controls for the memory seat settings,
power mirrors, power locks,
and all 4 power windows, but the material
quality is very durable, with soft touch
materials on not only the top and middle portions,
but even the bottom portion
is also the same way as well.
Additionally, the material quality on the
front passenger door is just as exactly
the same as the driver's side.
As for the rear left door, the same soft touch
material qualities that were
present on the driver's side door, are carried
on over through to give the
rear occupants the exact same benefit.
Also, the material quality on the right rear
door is just as exactly the same
as the left rear door.
Now as for the backseat goes for the all new
redesigned Chevrolet Silverado
1500, it doesn't only offer both practicality
and flexibility, but also,
the amount of headroom space that I have in the backseat, is definitely really
generous and very accommodating, and I'm just about
5 foot 11, to 6 feet tall.
But what about the thigh support though on
the other hand?
As for thigh support goes, it's both very
comfortable and very supportive.
Plus, the amount legroom space that I have
in the backseat of this truck is
also very spacious and roomy, which makes
riding in the backseat of this truck,
a very pleasant experience, that you definitely
won't forget.
In addition, there are two convenient storage
compartments for the rear
passengers that also includes a 12V power-outlet
next to the top storage
compartment on the right side. Not to mention
that there are even two rear
map pockets, with one being on the left side,
while the other one is on
the right.
Also, there are even two rear cup-holders
for the rear passengers,
for additional convenience.
So with everything that you have seen, including
the optional equipment, the
MSRP price of this particular version of the
Silverado is
$50,880.00. And that's the price with the
High Country Premium Package and other
amenities that you just now saw. But if you
add the destination charge to the
MSRP price that I just now mentioned, the
total price of the vehicle runs at
$51,975.00. Which is not a bad price for a
full-size truck that's able to
to offer a lot for a price that you simply
cannot refuse to pass up.
Plus, the crash-test ratings for the Silverado
are also outstanding
for every category that you see listed, especially
for both the front and
side-crash test rating categories.
So to reiterate the question that I asked
in the beginning of the episode,
does the all-new redesigned Chevrolet Silverado
have the ability to be
very competitive against the other full-size
truck offerings?
The answer, it absolutely does, without a
doubt about it.
Not just because of how much the vehicle has
changed from both the inside and
outside, but also because of the generous
amount of safety
features that the truck is able to offer that
nobody can pass up,
based on the crash test ratings that you just
now saw.
In addition, the Silverado even provides a
plentiful amount of room and
comfort for both the driver and passengers,
without comprising both
fuel economy and driving performance, which
is in thanks to that part
to the newly-introduced 5.3L EcoTec3 V8 Engine
from General Motors.
Additionally, the new Ecotec3 engine lineup
was one of the reasons that the
all-new Silverado won the 2014 North American
Truck Of The Year Award at
the 2014 North American International Auto
Show in Detroit, MI, respectfully.
So with that being said, I hope you enjoyed
this episode of Nexccelerator.
I'm Michael Land, and I'll see you next time.
