1966 Chevrolet Nova SOLD / 136372

1966 Chevrolet Nova SOLD / 136372

RK Motors:

Sometimes simple is good.
This pro-street ’66 Nova is, literally,
brilliant proof of that philosophy.
With a distinct lack of flashy graphics or
questionable body modifications clouding its
ominous black paint, this Chevy stands out
not because of what’s there, but because
of what isn't.
All Chevys are cool, but it’s always nice
to see a Nova get this level of love.
That said, you really can’t argue with the
clean lines of the second generation Chevy
II, and this car retains 100% factory-correct
sheetmetal with the exception of ’67 Nova
fenders and a steel Cowl Induction Hood.
During a professional rotisserie restoration,
that metal was fully straightened and carefully
aligned.
And sinister Black 2-stage is deep, rich,
and free from any distracting metallics or
pearls.
Between the doros, a custom, hand-built cage
cradles a custom leather interior.
5-point harnesses hug tall Corbeau buckets.
A custom dash plants a full array of Auto
Meter gauges between billet foot pedals and
premium Ron Francis wiring.
The console looks right at home framing Vintage
Air conditioning, switches for power windows
and an angled ratchet shifter.
And a half-wrapped Budnik wheel laps a tilting
column.
Lift the hood and you’ll find one of the
largest big blocks GM has ever created: a
572 cubic inch monster that cranks out 621
horsepower on pump gas.
A cooled TH400 3-speed employs a transbrake
and sends power back to a braced 9-inch with
a Detroit Locker.
It’s impossible to guess how many hours
it took to construct this amazing Chevy.
But, given the lengthy list of equipment that
went in to its build, our asking price probably
wouldn’t even cover the components, let
alone labor.

'67 Chevy Nova SS connects him to his past, present, future | Why I Drive #10

'67 Chevy Nova SS connects him to his past, present, future | Why I Drive #10

Hagerty:

My grandfather
was one of the founding
members of SEMA, my dad was a drag racer.
That drove me to get this car.
The '67 Nova, for me, just
has those classic lines,
those straight, really clean lines.
When I'm in this car, I
am fully connected to it.
It's a one-to-one experience.
Everything else around me disappears.
It's me, the car, and the road.
(engine rumbling)
When I'm out driving the Nova on the road,
you know, I hammer it.
It's not like any other car I've driven.
It truly is, I mean, it's loud, it's fun.
You really experience everything.
It handles like a
go-kart, it's just so low,
with such wide tires.
(engine rumbling)
You hear everything, it's not a quiet car.
It's you and the car, and
just this visceral experience.
(gentle music)
This car does have a few
different personalities.
When I'm cruising down the PCH
it's just a fun, nice experience,
and you can cruise down the freeway
at 70, 80 miles an hour no
problem, it's just enjoyable,
but it can switch pretty quickly.
If I wanna take it out to a race track,
or hammer it, it turns
into a beast real fast.
I love it, it's super fun
from that perspective.
(gentle music)
For a muscle car, it is very modern,
and it has a lot of modern technologies,
but it is still an analog experience.
There's no traction control.
There's no launch control,
it has manual brakes.
You know, you have to pay attention.
It is something that is modern and fun,
but also it's something that
you're paying attention to the whole time.
(gentle music)
For me this car really
connects all the dots.
It has me connected to my past,
and with my grandfather, and with my dad,
to you know, looking at the future.
Hopefully this is a car
that my kids wanna drive.
My name is James Schiefer,
and this is why I drive.

1978 Chevrolet Nova SOLD / 136475

1978 Chevrolet Nova SOLD / 136475

RK Motors:

Falling for an old school Nova is easy.
The difficult part is finding a unique, well-built
car that’ll keep you happy for years to
come.
Luckily, we have a real knack for finding
standout builds.
And this incredible street legal stock car,
wrapping 406 cubic inches of brutal Chevy
small block in top-notch customization and
retro red and white pigment, is about as standout
as it gets!
This Chevy is the product of a detailed, 3-year
build that was performed by a veteran stock
car racer.
And make no mistake, even though this beast
is tilted as a 1978 Chevrolet 2-door sedan,
it is every bit a street legal race car.
Naturally, a build this intense required hours
of precise metalwork which, predictably, was
layered in the distinct combination of red,
white, black and gold the builder ran on all
his race cars.
And it all adds up to one world-class, eye-catching
classic that’s virtually guaranteed to drop
jaws!
Pop this Chevy’s shaved doors and you’ll
find an all-business interior that’s good
for driving or showing and wrapped by a full
cage.
Procar racing seats feature 5-point harnesses.
A single-stage dash arranges reliable Auto
Meter gauges around a modern head unit, Vintage
Air climate control and switches for power
windows.
An insulated floor floats clean carpet around
a predictable Hurst shifter.
And the driver commands the apexes through
a quick release steering wheel.
Pull the pins to find 406 cubic inches of
exclusive Chevrolet small block.
Fed by a Holley 4 barrell, it leads a smooth
hydraulic clutch that kicks a Tremec 5-speed
and spins a 9-inch rear with a Detroit locker
and 3.70 gears.
Owning a
lights-out classic is cool.
Owning a tastefully customized, lights-out
classic that’s so wicked it could easily
be a legitimate race car is the stuff most
gearheads dream about.

Randy Clark Enters His 1972 Chevy Nova into the 2017 SEMA Battle of the Builders

Randy Clark Enters His 1972 Chevy Nova into the 2017 SEMA Battle of the Builders

SEMA Show:

A
mechanic at a local gas station where a company I was working for
bought their fuel from
Mechanic at that gas station had bought the car to flip it and I bought it from him for $600 in 1983
The the owners manual is really the only documentation that came with the car at the time in the early 80s
I was renting an old farmhouse not too far from here and
with some friends and these are some pictures of the car when I first
Got it
The car after I restored the first time had a 350 4-bolt main
Board 60 over with a
Turbo 350 transmission, which is a good running car. I had thought about rebuilding the the small-block but decided to go with LS3
swap this time
This car I actually had stopped driving and parked it about two weeks before I started dating my wife
She did not see the car actually run and drive until her birthday
I was able to get the car actually together mocked up running
It didn't have any glass in it, but we got it running, and I was able to take her for a drive
Yes it has the 14s Baer brakes
that came with the sports performance package that has
A ride tech triple adjust coilovers on all four corners the only thing that's really original is the roof
It's the you know, the new
fenders in the front the doors have been re-skined so the inside of the doors are the same
And the Chassis build we kind of raised the floor an inch thick and had to make the the transmission tunnel a little bit larger
to accommodate the transmission then
Detroit Speed mini tubs in the rear and
The trunk had some holes, and I was kind of swiss cheese, so the trunk pan need to be replaced
But because of the mini tubs, it's all been kind of custom fabricated
My good friend, Tommy Parkins, you know thought the car was worth entering in the competition
I wasn't so sure but you know, figured why not, I have to try

Ohio Street Freak: 1969 Chevrolet Nova - The House Of Muscle Ep. 4

Ohio Street Freak: 1969 Chevrolet Nova - The House Of Muscle Ep. 4

MotorTrend Channel:

(slow guitar music)
(laughs)
- You feel like such a
bad boy in this thing.
(slow guitar music)
Perfect.
You might be wondering
why I'm standing here
in the middle of Ohio when it's 32 degrees
and we had snow flurries.
You might be wondering
why I'm wearing gloves
and a puffy coat.
Well the reason is this.
Well actually the reason is that.
And well I guess the
reason is both of 'em.
About three years ago, I saw
that car on the internet,
and it blew my mind.
And I did a little research
and I found the owner,
who's the guy in that garage.
After speaking with him,
he told me about that car.
That car reminded me of when I was a kid.
So when I decided to come
here, I wasn't sure which one
I was going to film.
As it turned out, this is the
huckleberry for this episode.
But that one is something
we're going to do later on.
So welcome to another episode
of The House of Muscle.
And I'm leaving you now
because I'm really cold.
(slow bass notes)
(engine roaring)
This is a cruiser, this car was made
to do what we're doing now.
Which is to like roll around and show off,
and like you go up to
somebody and they're like
hey how you doin'?
Right and they look at
you and they're like,
should I talk to him?
(slow bass notes)
May I present to you,
this piece of beauty.
This wonderful rig of
whiteness and laced paint,
and a hood scoop, a hood scoop.
- The thing that got me into
cars, one of the most vivid
memories I have, I'll never forget.
I was a paper boy, about 12, 13 years old.
You know, rode your bike,
had the canvas bag over your shoulder.
Out of the corner of my eye I see a car
coming across the street, heard it first.
(engine roaring)
It happened to be about
a, probably a 1970 Nova.
Was black, it was a sunny day.
I remember the sun hitting
the spokes of the Cragar SS'.
Very similar to the 69 I've got.
I was scared but excited at the same time.
That was over 40 years ago.
That image was burned into my mind.
And that, not only cars,
but Novas in particular,
have always been a part of me,
and probably always will be.
(engine roaring)
- The cool part about this
is that is makes you feel
like a kid, it makes Mike feel like a kid.
And as he puts it, when
he gets in this car,
he's dude I'm 16, I am 16 years old.
- Just to clear the side pipe.
So I wanted to build
a car that reminded me
of the cars that were on
the road when I was a kid.
The slapper bars were
something that you saw.
The Cragar SS', that was the wheel,
I think there were like two wheel
options in the '60s and '70s.
It was probably a steel GM
wheel if you had a GM car,
a rally wheel maybe, and then Cragar SS.
Side pipes, I mean if
that doesn't scream 1960s,
I don't know what does.
(engine humming)
- This particular car, is a 1969 Nova,
that Mike bought off eBay.
And when he bought it, he was like
dude it was a complete hash.
He's like it had like a 283 in it.
He's like the tranny was jacked.
The body was in decent shape
but there was so much of it
that just needed to be redone.
As Mike's first car was a
Nova that his Dad gave him,
which he still has by the way,
Mike decided to build something
that not only paid tribute
to his Pop, but his kids as well.
And he's like you know
what, I'm going to build
the type of car that I grew up with,
that I saw on the streets and that sparked
my imagination when I was a kid.
(engine humming)
- With most car guys, the
inspiration that we receive
comes from a lot of places.
To pay homage to my father,
who is probably my um sorry,
my biggest inspiration.
I went with my family's name on the car,
my father's name's on the
car, my son's name on the car.
- His Dad passed away two weeks after,
after the car was finished.
He said he got to see it
before he passed away.
(engine roaring)
(upbeat jazz music)
Now when I think of a Chevy
Nova, this is what I think of.
As a kid growing up in the
late '70s and the early '80s,
in New York, these things
were all over the place.
But back in 1968 when
Chevy decided to change
the body style of the Nova,
they went from kind of
these square, rectangular
blocks of automobile to this.
Which is more of a, kind of
organic, kind of jelly beanish
type of shape.
But the ones produced between '68 and '72,
are actually my favorite.
One, I love, love, the small tail lights.
I love the rigged front grill.
I love the line, they're very
kind of ruggedly handsome
if that makes any sense right.
Even if you got one with
a plain Jane straight six,
it was still kind of cool.
I mean hell, you could even,
when they were first released,
you could've even gotten this
car with a four cylinder.
Although I have never actually seen one,
they're really really rare.
You have to think about
what I'm driving right.
Cragars on the front,
with skinny tires on 'em.
I've got these big meats on the back.
And the rig is like this.
I've got these crazy traction bars.
So when you hit the throttle on the car,
(laughs)
(engine roars)
the whole car just kind
of lurches forward.
It's kind of cool, I
mean you know cars today
are meant to just be planted.
They're not meant to twist,
they're not meant to do
any of that funky stuff.
This car, if you're sitting here,
and you stomp it,
(engine roars)
(laughs)
it's hilariously fast.
When you do it, the whole car
kind of comes up on an angle,
it feel like that front
wheel wants to come up
off the ground and it
kind of twists itself.
And that was such a characteristic
for these old school cars
and that's what makes it wonderful.
How is the car to drive?
When you look at this car,
you immediately get an image.
You go, that's probably
going to be terrible.
And you know what, it kind of is.
But not in the way that you would think.
Like I don't want to get in this car
and I don't want to drive to
California in this thing, right.
I mean under the hood we've
got a 406 small block.
Out back, we got 373 gears
and it's a turbo 350 tranny.
So right at like 65, 70 miles an hour,
you're spinning three grand,
you don't want to do that,
like all the way to California,
you'd be running like
4500 RPMs, the motor would blow sky high.
(slow jazz music)
(engine roaring)
When you look around
the inside of this car,
what do you see?
I have a massive tach, old school tach,
that's column mounted.
I have obviously my gages down here,
because every muscle car
from the '70s and '60s
has a gage pod down there.
There's a fire extinguisher
because when you have
a 50 year old car, you
have a fire extinguisher.
I've had cars that caught on fire,
it's not pretty if it's not present.
I don't have a radio, I do
have climate control switches.
They do nothing.
It's an old car, it's awesome.
I love character.
(engine roaring)
(laughs)
It's a fun car to drive and
you don't have to be going
110 miles an hour.
And regards to flat out
speed, my ass dyno says
probably a mid 13 second car, high 12 car,
something like that, if
you get it to hook up.
But on this particular one,
once you get a look at it,
you can tell that owner Mike Cosculluela
did a lot of things to it.
(upbeat jazz music)
OK so if you guys haven't
figured out what this guy means,
do I look like I give a F?
I don't, and I definitely
know Mike doesn't.
- I take this car everywhere.
I take it to the grocery
store, to my kids' school
when I drop 'em off at school.
The question I'm often asked
if I'm at a gas station
getting gas in it, or in a
parking lot of a grocery store,
is where's the car show at?
Is there a car show today?
And I'm like no I got
to get milk and eggs.
Too many guys will take
these cars and preserve them
and baby them.
All the stickers, we made a couple
look like they fell off.
- Sure of course.
- We broke 'em off, sanded on 'em.
I subscribe to the theory of,
drive the crap out of 'em,
it's a car.
(engine humming)
- Is that a drive through store?
- [Cameraman] Yeah.
- Look at that, that's bitchin'.
We're going through there.
Alright now we're going
to go have a little fun.
What're we going to buy?
- [Cameraman] Snickers and some batteries.
- [Host] Snickers and batteries.
If a drive through mini
mart doesn't say 1970s,
I don't know what does.
Hey how you doing?
Do you have Snicker bars?
Do you have AA batteries?
Oh do you have Twix?
- Twix?
- Yeah.
- Yes.
- I'll take a Twix too.
Hey dude.
- What's happening?
- [Host] Nothin'.
What do you think of this thing?
- Pretty great.
- [Host] It's slick isn't it?
- [Cashier] Anything else?
- [Host] Just the batteries
and then we'll be good to go.
- [Man] What time you got on it?
- Like the ass dyno probably
says high 12, low 13s.
I told you people can't ignore this Nova.
There is no reason whatsoever,
you couldn't drive this every day, none.
None at all.
Everybody thinks that they have to spend
a whole bunch of coin,
to have a great car.
And you don't.
All you have to do, in reality,
is have a really good imagination, right.
You have to have a good imagination,
you have to have a great set of friends
that are going to help
you through the journey
of building a car.
And then, and this is
the most important thing,
you have to drive them.
You have to get on the gas.
You got to like roll through
it and like you've got to
steer yourself a little bit.
I mean shit we don't even have seat belts.
I mean, we have lap belts but
like they don't do anything.
(engine humming)
(laughs)
- I knew I would never
buy anything but a Nova.
I know there's some guys that own Mopars
and they own Pontiacs
and foreign cars, not me.
Because it was my first
car, it was my first car
that my father gave me.
Every time I drive it,
I think about my Dad.
And that's the biggest joy,
I have with this car and all these cars.
- The person or the people
that you built it for,
they get it, they get
exactly why you did it.
They understand your process behind it.
And they know in here, and
more importantly in here,
what this means to you.
You can't buy that.
I don't care what you do,
I don't care how much money you spend.
The reason we do this
stuff is because of this.
Really nothing else.
(engine roaring)
When I saw this car, I was blown away.
Because a lot of people do cars like this,
and they get really close
to getting it right.
But they generally always do it wrong.
He nailed this thing in my opinion.
Look at the stance, look
at the rig in the back.
Look at how true he stayed
to the street free cars
of the 1970s.
Look at the side pipes, look
at the tow tabs in the front.
Look at the lace paint job
and the distressed paint.
Look at the two inches of caked rubber
on the back quarter panel.
Look underneath the rear
end at that glorious
rear gold globe of a diff cover.
- Love it, I love it.
If you asked any guy that built a car,
that didn't want some
sense of acknowledgement,
that dude, that is fricken
bad ass, he's lying.
Cause you, subliminally,
you want acknowledgement.
- Not a big money build.
But an outstanding build.
A car that's fun, a car that's exciting,
a car that has imagination.
And these cars are about adventure
and they're about making you understand,
what life was like a little while ago.
They act as therapy and
they act as kind of like
your escape from the every day.
- And you know the guy that I'll see
coming out of a grocery
store that's getting into
that mini van, that part of
his soul has got to be crushed,
when I fill the trunk of
my Nova with groceries.
And on the way home, I
know a little part of him
has to die when he thinks
about that little Barracuda
that he had in high school.
(engine roaring)
That he traded in for a station wagon,
and now he's got a mini van and
he's got to die a little bit.
But I hope that when a guy
that gets into that Camry,
sees me get into this car,
and I'm not at a car show,
and I'm not going to a drag
strip, I'm just driving it,
that he says, you know what,
I'm going to go buy me this car
that I used to have when I was a kid.
And I want the smile on that dude's face.
You know, that's what I want.
When we drive these cars,
we're giving those guys hope.
He did it, look at his
face, look at the smiles.
- I'm giving you a hug because that was
the greatest line I have ever heard.
That was so good (laughs).
- Yeah well.
I should have said, I'm
doing it for the kids.
Is what I should have said.
- [Host] No dude no.
That is brilliant.

1972 Nova Build: The Wrong Way! - Not Rod Ep. 1

1972 Nova Build: The Wrong Way! - Not Rod Ep. 1

Not Rod Shop:

On this two-part episode of Not Rod Shop
I stuff a 350 and a three-speed in a 72 Nova and go drag racing for the first time in my life!
Intro Music
Okay, so I bought this 72 Nova off of Craigslist for
1,800 bucks
The plan is to eventually make this thing really nice clean it up paint it...
But that's not what we're gonna do right now...
For Now we're gonna slap a V8 in this thing get it running and driving and hopefully do some burnouts with it.
One of the first problems that I noticed with it is it's obviously been wrecked over on this side
you can see the frame is just totally mangled right here and my initial plan was to just
put some heat to this and
massage it out with a hammer and make that work but the other problem that we have with it is these bushings are just
completely garbage, so I did some looking on Craigslist and then I found
This subframe assembly right here
so what we're actually gonna do since we got to tear all the control arms and everything off to replace the bushings anyway
is we're just gonna replace the entire subframe while we're doing that. So we're gonna do that right now
Well, the probably should loosen up these wheels before we uh...
Before we jacked it up.
Music
Finally
Music
Morning Music
So last night we finished taking out the subframe we took all the control arms off
the bushings fought us basically the entire way, so
We were up until about midnight
Messing with this thing trying to get it all apart. Finally got the subframe tore out. We had one subframe bolt
That was really fighting with it really bad
We tried heating it up and even that didn't want to do it and finally the nut spun inside of its retainer
So we ended up having to cut the retainer out to get the nut and everything out and cut the bolt in half
and so now we got to chase the threads on the nut and
get all that put back together and weld the retainer back in and
Then we can put the subframe in so now I'm gonna chase the threads on
The nut that got all messed up when I tried to pull it out of the car
We managed to get the bolt out of it here in the vise...
So now...
the bolt should go right in there theoretically.
and then this retainer gets spot welded down to the car and we really had no choice but to completely
Mangle this whole retainer to get it out of the car
And then on the vise, I just kind of took and bent it all back into shape and it actually looks pretty good
so we're just gonna reuse it and this retainer kind of has to be a position just right so that
You'll actually have a little bit of slop in there so that you can get the frame
Adjusted side to side and forward and back how it needs to be
That looks pretty good
Yeah, I think we can tack it in place
cool
Now I can slap the subframe on. We found out X body cars like Nova's use this 1/2 inch spacer where other cars don't
Ah F*** me, of course that would do that. Whoo, look at that pretty sub frame underneath such a rotten old car. Yeah
yeah, that's maybe an eighth difference to the hole to the body
I'm kind of thinking we run with it
How bad could it be right? Yeah, I mean it probably didn't drive straight before the worst case it just won't drive straight still
Impact Gun
So now
We just got a whole bunch of really boring stuff to do like cleaning up the a-arms painting them all that kind of stuff
And then putting bushings back in
yep
I'm using
zero rust and
This will actually convert
Rust into like a zinc phosphate coating or something like that. So you can spray it right over the rust and it works just fine
Not exactly show quality, but I think it'll do the trick
You got to put one bushing in and then you put the shaft in and then you put the other bushing in
This is what we call an econo-press
Ah sh**
I forgot to put the shaft in
Well, it looks like one of em will be coming out
So anyone putting one of these together don't do like I did and forget to put this bar in before you put both bushings in
It has been a long time since this car has rolled because there is probably more
Spider webs in here than there are brake parts
But now it gets a little bit more exciting because we get to start installing
Shiny new parts from our parts pyramid. Right now I'm just matching up
The marks that I put on this spring earlier so that when we get the spring back in here
Everything should theoretically be able to come back apart without these things getting stuck in there and binding up and stuff
Well, that went pretty good
Especially for that being the only second I've ever done the first one
Over there
So I went through the trouble of getting a thread chaser kit and chasing these old rotten bolts
And it turns out that the disc brake kit gives you new ones
This control arm when I first got the car has always been missing
the little washer that's supposed to go here and it's kind of a special one because it's supposed to have a curve to it and
We looked all over in the car
There was a big can of bolts in the back of the car, but it wasn't in there and we just can't find it
So I actually went and got this off of the shock
from a Cherokee in a junkyard and
It's not exact but it looks like it should work pretty good. So that's what we're gonna use
Hmmmmmmm...
Guess I'll just drag that
All right for this thing you're in yep, I'm gonna hold it up. Yeah if you want to hold it up and
I just love the 70s vibe that I get from this car
I mean you've got what looks like this crazy Van Halen pinstripe job that somebody did to it way back when
It has this zebra stripe tinting job on the back window and it's got this diamond
fabric over on the
windshield pillar
And next is to put on
Tie-Rod Ends, one side's left, one side's right
We're just going to assemble it as close to the original length as we can, I'm sure they'll need adjustment but...
Get it Close
Again one side's left, one sides Right
Well that's about as close as we're gonna be able to get it, another tip make sure the threads are about equal length there on the end
So if you gotta adjust it they're about the same. The main reason that these are getting replaced is because if you look at this
Adjusting sleeve. It's got a big bend to it
Actually more like a z shape
Next question
Which side goes to what
I was hoping you would have kept track of that when you took it apart
I was hoping I would have too
So this
Seal popped out of the rotor way too easy. They should be a real nice tight fit
So we're just gonna take a hammer and punch and put a few dimples in it. So that it
seats in the rotor better
So for those of you that have never done a cell brakes before there is a
Left and a right caliber the one for the driver side and one for the passenger side. The thing to remember is that with this
Piston on the inside of the car this bleeder screw has to be facing upwards
you don't want your line where the
Fluid comes into the piston to be at the top if your line is at the top
You're not going to be able to bleed your brakes
Okay. So now this side is all done. Now I just gotta go do the other side
It's two weeks later and
Fall is upon us.
Over the last couple weeks
I've just been getting the car ready for an engine to go in there. Small things, I installed the sway bar
I installed the passenger side hard line for that brake on the passenger side, installing motor mounts
Things like that. We're hoping that we can actually get the engine installed today
But first we've got to get the clutch set up and what I'm doing is I'm making my own hydraulic clutch
What you do is you get this master cylinder and this clutch slave cylinder for a 58 Ford F100
and that way these are properly sized
They're both 1-1/16" bore. I've used this setup before on Chevy small blocks and other vehicles that I've done
And it works really well.
This master cylinder was $26
This slave cylinder was twelve dollars
So for about 38 bucks, I could make my own hydraulic clutch set up
the problem however on this car
is the
Clutch rod comes through this hole right here at a downward angle
so you have to get your master cylinder in here somehow
and you can see that that's just not going to work because you can't pull the cap off. You can't fill it with fluid
It's just not gonna work.
So
What I did is I got this Wilwood master cylinder set up
And these come in different bore sizes
Ranging all the way from I think half inch up to inch and an eighth
this one is one-inch because it jumps from one inch to inch and an eighth so I couldn't get
an inch and a sixteenth to match this
So I just went to one inch so we'll see how that works. The cool thing about this setup is that this reservoir comes off
you put
This little guy right onto here and then you have a hose that comes up to a remote reservoir
That'll be attached to this bracket and then we'll just mount the bracket somewhere on the firewall like that and then on the engine
This should work pretty good because this is gonna come right down here
with a little rod that pushes on the clutch fork and
Then all we got to do is have a straight bracket that comes right off the bell housing here
Maybe connect it to these two bolts and then just drill some holes in the bracket
Weld some nuts on the end and we can just bolt right through here and have a pretty good clutch setup
Unfortunately since I couldn't use that and I got to use this... this was about 80 some odd dollars
So I'm still
under a hundred dollars
For my own hydraulic clutch setup. The next cheapest option would've cost two hundred and seventy five dollars.
So for essentially a third of the price and then just making my own brackets. I've made my own hydraulic clutch.
Here is it! The motivation
I got this engine out of my 72 c10
that I put a 5.3 liter and a 4L60E in out of a 2001 Silverado a while back
that truck runs with that setup, but it needs a little bit of work
So you'll probably see that on a future episode at some point
I'm pretty sure this is the factory engine and transmission combo that came in that truck
It's still got what I think are the factory dished Pistons
The bottom end is honestly probably kind of tired
But it's got world product heads with 2.02 intake valves, 1.60 exhaust and 64 CC combustion chambers
So it moved that 4000 pound truck down the road just fine
this here is actually a Muncie three-speed
and
I abused the hell out of this thing in that truck and it is always held up just fine
Obviously I would have preferred to go with like a Muncie 4-speed like an M-21 or something like that
But rather than spend a thousand dollars on that when I'm already spending a whole bunch of money on everything else on this car
I just decided to run what I have
So the bracket that we made for the clutch slave cylinder
is hitting on the firewall of the car trying to put it in and it is leaving it
to where it just barely wants to go in but it's just not quite
we could probably fiddle with it a little bit more and see if it'll go in but the other
issue I'm worried about is that that'll probably make a whole bunch of noise anytime you're
Torquing the motor or anything like that. So ...
We may need to redesign that mount. We're not sure right now, but we're gonna try to figure it out.
Little cuttin' and weldin'
We'll get her all fixed up.
So yeah, we pulled the engine and modified the bracket
Little bit of lint down in there... No big deal, laughs...
Oh... Well that might be a problem...
Yeah Ford Kinda has they're sh** together...
When you go to adjust the timing
That can't be right
HEI distributor clearance in a 72 Nova...
Says probably not
Oh there we go now it looks like it was made for it, laughs
Yeah, you know what I think the fire wall was just deformed before from the accident
So now it's where it's supposed to be. Response: That's what is was, That's right, OK.
Oh Hey
Perfect, right? You can't even tell the fire wall's dented. Nope. That looks good - yeah
That's a factory install right there
The passenger side header fit perfect
But since these were truck headers that we just pulled out from under the bench
The driver side header just would not clear the steering box. We tried from the bottom from the top and it just wasn't happening
Luckily brandon is great at building exhaust though. So he was able to modify the header really nicely to fit...
Well... sort of...
Laughs
Oh this is some of my best work yet! Laughs
Oh man I don't know...
Alright well this is a sweet weld job
We'll see if it works
Okay, so we wanted to get the engine running tonight
In fact, the whole passenger side of the engine is done spark plugs, wires
Batteries hooked up to the starter. Everything's all ready to go and
Brandon did a fantastic job over here
On these headers to get them all put in there tonight so that it would clear the steering box and everything
However, there's just one little problem with how the tube was made
Is that when you try to stick a spark plug in here?
It's not
possible
It just does not
Does not work at all
so
We don't feel like pulling all that back out apart tonight and so that's gonna kind of stall us right here until later
After not being able to get the car running over the weekend, I really just needed some more win on this thing
so I'm gonna go ahead and finish the clutch master cylinder bracket that I was building before and
Hopefully get it all set up and adjusted. I made this plate right here
That has a hole in the center for the master cylinder and then these two bolt holes
This is going to get welded
to this piece of exhaust pipe right here, and then the whole thing will slide over the top of
This and bolt together and then I've got to cut the correct angle on this pipe
And then weld that to this flange
That I built that mounts to the brake master cylinder bracket
Kind of hokey looking but you know, it'll work for now
Until I figure out something better in the future
So there it is
Our bracket, okay, we're just gonna give it one last test fit here
Make sure it all goes together
Okay, so when we first went to put the engine in we had some things that were kind of fighting with us first the bracket
that Brandon built for the clutch slave cylinder
Interfered with the firewall so we had to pull the motor back out he cut the top off of that and put a bevel on
it to make it fit then our
Transmission mount was too thick. So I ordered up a thinner one and it looks like that one's gonna work
Then he put together a header for it
We had to modify one pipe and then unfortunately
He built it so that that header tube was in the way of the spark plug hole
So then that header had to come back out and get modified again
Now that's in and we got the spark plugs in and that works
the other problem that we now have that we're gonna have to fix is
The clutch fork looks like when you push on the clutch
It's actually gonna hit the floor of the car when the slave cylinder actually pushes on the clutch fork
So we're gonna have to deal with that
That's just a matter of cutting out the floor that may be putting a patch in that doesn't interfere with it
But for right now we want to get the engine running just to make sure that it runs in everything
We cut these belts off. So the fans not going to spin and it doesn't have water in it
So we're not going to run it very long, but this will give us an idea of how it runs
I'm just filling up the bowl on the carburetor
Keep fire dangers to a minimum...
Hopefully
And then here is my ignition setup. I just have
Battery cable going to the starter lug. This is our ignition wire going to the distributor
It's a quick release. So all you got to do is just pull on it and it'll shut the engine off
It's it's actually an emergency measure. It's great
And then our starter solenoid wire
Engine Running
Sweet! I have a 72 Nova that runs
Alright now we can start putting everything else back together fenders and
Fuel pump. We got a big list we put together so we'll get everything put together and then
Hopefully drive it today since everything else hasn't gone wrong on this. That should be a pretty reasonable goal
Laughs, Yeah, Right
Now a lot of people don't know that if you take this little teeny tiny bolt
Out of there
The while you're holding up on the shaft you just take a longer bolt and
Put it in that hole all the way until it stops
And then that moves the shaft in place for you while you put the fuel pump in
Music
Engine sputtering
Engine Running
Engine Dies
So we made some pretty good progress today the motor runs off of the gas tank that's in the car
We got gauges in the car. We've got the start button and the ignition switch in the car
we think we still have some timing to play with we couldn't really get it to run down low because
The gasket between the carburetor and the intake manifold is wrong
So we think we got a vacuum leak too so it won't idle
So we want to fix that before we go any further was like timing or anything like that
We've got to get the other fender on so pretty soon. We're ready to rock and roll
There's actually a Test and Tune going on at Pacific raceways this weekend
So I'm hoping that we'll be able to have this thing ready for then. We'll see even if we do
I don't know if it'll pass tech but we're gonna try...
Long story short life happened
And I was only able to put a couple of hours worth of work into the car until the night before the test in tune
Brandon is working today. So it's just me out here by myself
want to get a few things finished up.
The last test in tune of the year is tomorrow. So trying to get as much done as I can
Still need to do some small things like putting the battery tray in, I want to get the upper
radiator support and that the car is supposed to have rather than just these chintzy little
Brackets that we have on there now. I still don't have a driveline. That won't be here
until hopefully tomorrow but
We should have enough time to get that in and get the thing rolling. The engines still need some tuning work done
I might have to pull the carburetor off and
rebuild that but what I'm gonna do right now is I'm just gonna go ahead and paint the
Aluminum core of the radiator black because that's really important
Brandon just happened to have these nice bucket seats laying around so i'm just gonna go ahead and use them.
I didn't want to pay 30 bucks for some of the stupid knobs they have at the auto parts store. So I'm making my own
This is actually a piece of exhaust pipe that came from Brandon's Harley, I don't think you'll mind if I use it
Perfect. Pretty ergonomic actually.
So now I've just got to make my own brackets to get those seats to actually bolt into the car
I picked up a driveline for the Nova another Craigslist item so we can drive it out of the shop and
Do some tuning so we're not suffocating ourselves in here
Woh, Woh, shut it down
Today was the day of the Test and Tune and although we'd come a long way
There was still a bunch of stuff to get done before we were ready to race
It was coming out of the vent and everything. Oh Yeah, Stuck needle-seat.
This was the first time the car had rolled under its own power and I don't know how long. I have no evidence to support
this at all, but looking around at this car I can't help but feel like it was driven up until about
1979 when it was wrecked two days after the owner did a brake job on it.
No brakes? No brakes. Laughs
We might want to bleed those
Well what do you think should we maybe kinda start it up and let it warm up a little bit and see how it's running?
Check the timing?
Probably have to throw a block in front of the wheel
It likes more timing
We were having trouble getting the engine idle because the carb had sat around for so long
Which made it really difficult to get the timing right.
That's right there.
We may actually wanna run it up higher then. Give it slightly more timing you think? Yeah.
We finally got the timing sorted out toward the engine will run on its own but then we started springing the inevitable leaks
yeah, you knew that was coming a
Just a little bit of a leak there
Looks like it's coming from the valve cover
Yep, that's why
Sucker was all the way tucked up in there
Well that'll do it! Yep that will
All right, so hopefully that stays there I probably should have
Siliconed it to the pan, but
Yeah, whatever
By the time we finally got everything sorted out
It was way too late to be able to make it to the strip before they closed but against better judgement
We were itching to at least take it on the road
And just like I figured would happened the float stuck again and started pouring fuel everywhere with open headers right beneath
So we ended the night by towing the car back to the shop.
So I was only gonna use the Rochester because I had it and I thought it might run okay
it did for a little while
but now that's looking like it'll need to be rebuilt anyway, so I decided to just go ahead and
Get a Holley for it 125 bucks on Craigslist. And since I already have a full jet kit
As well as multiple rebuild kits for a Holley
It'll be much more preferable to just go ahead and rebuild this Holley and put it all together with that
Take this guy, set it on top of all of these
As you can see it was just one problem after another to put this car together
But we finally did it a little more than a month after pulling the subframe out from underneath
Mostly working out about weekend's. We actually did some pretty good stuff to it too - power disc brakes,
Reuse the original power steering, and replaced every piece of rubber in the front end. Sure, It's not perfect. But that wasn't the point
I get to own and drive one of my
childhood dream cars for well under ten thousand bucks. A car that we brought back from the dead and that's what not rod shop is
all about
Music
It's Good! It's Really, Really Good!
So this stuff is all installed extremely poorly
Yes that's right
We have resorted to using twist ties because we ran out of zip ties
I think it's just paint
The cool thing is even though this is my car. I somehow talked him into going down there,
laying on the floor, and doing that while I sit here on this comfy stool
I don't know... when I was looking it up they said not to
Well if that's what they said...
You know and they I'm sure was, you know a redneck hick from Tennessee, so
then they may have done it more times than me
exactly
Dude they're professionals, they know what they're doing
Yeah, where'd the spacers go they were just...
Did we F***in' lose them again?
And then after that we'll see where we go from there. I'm not exactly sure myself
maybe we'll put the
Master cylinder on maybe we won't. I don't know
How's that
That was good
Maybe we will, maybe we won't, we will just have to find out...
Because then you have to put a wrench in there and who wants to do that?

all right you guys Jeff thanks for
coming out no problem seriously I have
made probably the oldest car we've ever
filmed yep and I've been totally just
like had my mind set domestics and euro
cars like getting into everything that
is nothing like I've ever experienced
before and this is definitely not so I'm
super excited yeah I'm excited to show
you this thing there's really not many
of them around here that are you know
this original in this pristine is still
sure on the roads and stuff like that
most personal projects or they've been
like modified to you know to suit
different style of engines or a great
day grazing it up like that so it should
be a bit of a flashback in the past when
we found it it was for sale at the
Langley car she'll probably let you all
know like the big language car that goes
on in September yeah I guess they would
see the original owner kind of a friend
of the original owner who was selling it
and it was in original condition
everything down to the paint the the
original stripes everything it was only
had 38,000 miles on it anyways yeah we
picked it up it's kind of a father-son
project it was your like to keep me busy
because we moved out from Ontario
yeah I was going to start all will just
try to wax it and polish it and then
from there was like well I was working
in a body shop a large body shop and
General Motors body trouble job so and
I'm starting my apprenticeship at the
preference teacher and I decided you
know what you know they gave me the
approval as long as they pay for the
supplies at the time moving in a
favorite thing you know basically making
my apprenticeship
I am just as excited right now to drive
it as that nine on one fifty three RS
really oh yeah absolutely
yeah this is great yeah we picked some
good roads for this dude just like haha
no cars on the road nice sunny day oh
what dreams are made of
all right here we go
oh that's pretty bad
that's good then breaks are what's like
I don't know how like if I start to go
hard in the brain yeah I won't you long
enough they're nothing but it hit a lot
we definitely got to put your life into
it yeah yeah all that's awesome though
that's how car should be you got to work
for your work for your power yes sir
okay to hit your speed word for your
power you're going to work to slow down
just also got a 240 with an RV 25 single
thermal in it you really know the
difference just as well as I do or
anybody of like driving this versus
driving a - coordination board is very
different right lighten up a little
apart just all you get turbo giggles
when you're driving a turbo car you know
the grin never leaves your face like oh
you know you get out of the thing but
yeah yes it is you know you can enjoy it
all day every day I never get tired of
it
all that sound new if you were to change
anything on the car what would it be a
good question I filled it exactly how I
wanted there you go that's the answer I
would have to I thought you were gonna
say but making sure it's not need new
tires soon okay yeah oh dear there you
go buddy oh don't get it Oh God
where the cars gonna come barreling over
the hill
it was built that it's me job apparently
back in the age before so had a good
kind of found me into it but you know
beam us guys and we're gearheads we have
to take things apart and put them all
back together so after the body was done
the edge of was next it was kind of
taken apart and you know a couple things
blue printed and cleaned up the
compression raised up a little bit and
then obviously like a good carburetor
and ignition system was going to it
right right chronic cap what's
considered a day to car it's kind of the
theme of the car where's like guys you
know dealership or race race car drivers
even like you know the general Joe would
go and pick up a car from the car lot
and then by day two he be like ordering
and installing headers and large double
pumper carburetor right yeah traction
cars were a huge thing right so we kind
of try to keep that theme of what's
considered a day to car anyway but you
know maintaining like the paint like and
everything as original as possible of
the album's interior and like you said
to if you look at the tires the tires
are kind of a lot like you were saying
it drives like it drove back in the 70s
that's correct yeah there's a
reproduction ones but they're literally
the same tire they're there a bias fly
firestone tire that would have been
sound there was probably an aftermarket
tire back then it hooks every crack in
the road and it pulls together auto
totally on top of it I would say like
the internals like any new engine
nowadays you want a bunch of
good-fortune Pistons yeah the rods
themselves back in the day were always
good obviously just put it like a better
rod cool head studs
essentially just balanced and
blueprinted a lot of the things and
still retain like the original these
things are like the heads themselves
aren't original in the car so the
Builder heads which were performance
head back from the 60s yeah so there are
a larger valve and they float a little
bit better than the factory heads and
they also get a little bit more
compression the transmission basically
just been overhauled with like a ship
kid and a couple of small things inside
so to help her durability of their job
the rear end itself again original rear
end original positraction that was I was
lucky enough to take apart it still
reused a lot of the clutch packs inside
because the problem with these pause
attractions is that you can't buy a
replaceable clutch packs anymore
okay I was lucky enough to reuse them
ship them up and tighten them up and
just want to set up 373 gears
that's a strange thing to see someone
riding a horse and being on like a cell
phone and holding another one yeah the
weird only in the countryside I guess
yeah
that's too addicting that's like
actually it's pretty tame it sounds like
a little bit like you can get a pisses
fire yeah but then it's just like
oh my god dude and I mean it shakes when
you start to get up like baby right
there yeah 100 miles an hour the tires
have been sitting flat for you know
eight punch and I mean with bias-ply
tires that your tentative flat spots
yeah it's funny how so many people
myself included are normally like if
there's a car and it comes in manual
automatic I'm always going to go for the
manual right but it seems like with
old-school muscle cars it's not even
like you're totally fine with an auto oh
yeah it's such a part of like the
character of the car how they used to
build Auto single before crappy torque
converters with like slow paddles and
stuff like those autos are just garbage
tick-tock in my opinion but and they
were just you know they're still famous
for for drag racing and stops and yeah
the older ones you can obviously you
know do a lot of cool tool modifications
to to really make them quick and shift
hard
I did take you to the drag strip we did
have some up the 28 by T by 9 slicks on
the back just stealing wheels yeah
typed up the traction bars that had
probably like a 75 maybe an 80 shot of
nitrous on it just to kind of get it up
get this heavy car up out of the hole
and we're in a 12 flat
can't remember the body that was a mile
per hour it was definitely around the
115 maybe about 20 what Chad that was
was kind of like the highlight of a car
I mean but this thing you you don't have
to even just riding as a pastor I know
we don't have to be going fast at all
for me to be completely enjoying this
car yeah this was this was like just
before American cars got really terrible
for like 20 years
good point you're right for the most
part but there were some gems in the
eighties and nineties absolutely sure
but I mean the 60s and 70s that's
American cars to me at least yeah that
that's what that's the epitome of like
muscle car era would be like the late
sixties early seventies
it's a classic car it will always be a
classic car it'll always be respected by
everybody else to know we can't go down
the road and then someone kind of given
us a thumbs up or a so many today out of
any cars we've gone like even old ladies
you know all we had to know the back of
the day when I came to Canada stomp so
on and so forth yeah it's
it's a cool car that's for sure what
does the Cobra kick though right here
yeah
we're not short of light classic cars
out this area neither lot and all this
that's why I love white rock you get
everything
white rock getting into Langley it's
just Langley - yup we're white rock you
definitely get a lot of old school
muscle cars right but a lot of you like
higher Ennio Range Rovers and supercars
you see at the beach - and so then you
go to Langley it's like that's where car
central for me is in the Lower Mainland
elite and then when you get into
Richmond it's a completely different
scene a lot of Japanese stuff a lot of
exotic tonics that's right
yeah there's plenty powerful cap and
piston is enough to make it enjoyable oh
yeah also let's get you in trouble real
quick position oh oh sure art you can
hear this thing coming
Jeff thank you so much no problem
appreciated this was awesome
I appreciate you having me it gives me a
smile knowing you know now you've driven
something that you can really relate to
back to the Devon DS yeah yeah a time
where I definitely did not exist no and
I probably weren't even I thought you
know they got at all all right well
thanks bro I appreciate this yeah if you
guys want to subscribe tell your friends
hit us up on my Facebook and stuff Jeff
you like Instagram randinger yeah yeah
Mike Jefferson is my full name yeah
follow me I gotta tell this as well to
my other project that I built my 240 at
a skyline as well at one time
perfect yeah we'll definitely have those
long channel thank the end Jeff

Earth Shaking '62 NOVA!

GuelphRacing:

Check out this 1962 Chevy Nova "Super Street" class drag car.
This footage was taken during the Ontario Street Outlaws big tire shootout on Sept 29th 2019, which this car won!
He makes a good video makes a save I like this car is is said it was 62. Yeah first year they named
Yep, very first year
What's the setup on it
My 40 big-block Chevy 540 big-block. Yeah, but a big one 36 hours of terrifical returns progeria
It's always been it's been a kind of fruit
Then he used to be a belt during setup, dude. Oh, yeah
What kind of powers are putting down right makes about 2,400 2,500 2,500?
Pretty baby powder most people don't believe in stuff you can do I could tell you all the part numbers
I ordered you get built in your garage. Yeah, well, it's all gonna work together to
What it is
Okay. Yeah the old before the super turns you sit over there. That's why that bars knives like that. Oh, okay
I just never read it. So there you go to the front there. Yeah, it's gear driven off of this gearbox here
Yeah, yeah, it's way more reliable, oh good
Laughter at all, but then rippling vendor often is when they come off I even had guard dog
Get lost in my head dishes are ready the inside. Yeah. Yeah the big bolts for sure
Yes, pretty meniscus got flattened incidentally
Doesn't even have a giant
It's pretty basic just got steel rod
- crazy
You couldn't just order from somewhere save what the ads are just out of the box. Yeah
AFR
They're the best bang. Fuck. What's your best time in it?
For 61 and hundred and sixty forty
Then the court I won't even just ran it
I have a brand of a quarter-mile over ten years. So I'll and I went to the band a couple of weeks ago
Seven-thirty letting off glue this this to Bob
Run before that it was seven
2:01
And it's a tank weighs 31, it's all steel buddy or no, it's wives plus everything
Or Wow this they crashed it
Place
By your husband, yeah
You know three or four hundred feet and you hit it with enough bumps in the garden it's kind of a go prep
Probably a little game perhaps a power day I learned my lesson. Yeah. Well, that's the only time I crashed I've been recent
Thirty's out the years
Paradise would another one was the crash how long ago was that?
Probably by using em fighters. Okay, so
