Understanding Wheel Offset, Backspacing and Width - Easy Guide | Truck Accessories Explained

Understanding Wheel Offset, Backspacing and Width - Easy Guide | Truck Accessories Explained

4 Wheel Online:

Hey guys, Ken here with 4 Wheel Online and
welcome to Truck Accessories Explained.
In this video we’ll be going over what wheel
width, offset and backspacing are, as well
as things to take into consideration when
you’re switching from stock wheels.
So let’s start with Wheel Width.
Although it is exactly what it sounds like,
it can easily be measured incorrectly if you
don’t know the right way.
Wheel Width is measured from bead lip to bead
lip and is not the actual width of the wheel
itself.
Now that we have that out of the way we can
move on to the offset, which is related to
backspacing but is a separate measurement.
So let’s draw a line down the middle of
the wheel...
Offset is the distance from the backside of
the mounting surface, to the centerline of
the wheel.
If the backside of the mounting surface is
exactly in the middle, the wheel has zero
offset...
But move the mounting surface outward and
you’ll have a positive offset.
Do the same thing but move it inward and you’ve
got negative offset.
Offset is measured in millimeters from the
centerline.
So this wheel has a -51mm offset, while this
wheel has an offset of +45mm.
You’ll sometimes see this stated as ET45
depending on the source of info for you wheel.
Now that we understand Offset, we can look
at backspacing, which is the distance from
the backside of the mounting surface to the
inside lip of the wheel and is generally measured
in inches.
Like I said earlier, wheel width, offset and
backspacing are all related and important
factors to ensure a proper wheel sizing for
your vehicle.
Let’s look at a few examples of how the
three relate.
We took the stats of three 20 inch tall KMC
XD128 Machete wheels for this example.
The first wheel is 9 inches wide.
It has an offset of zero and a backspacing
of 5.
As we learned earlier, since the offset is
zero the wheel is mounted directly in the
center.
Now, if you just did the math in your head
you’ll realize that half of 9 inches is
4.5 inches, so how can the backspacing be
5 inches?
Easy, the 9 inch wheel width does not include
the lip, but the backspacing does.
Next we have another 9 inch wheel, but this
one has an offset of +25.
We can see that with this wheel the mounting
surface is pushed outward, therefore the backspacing
is increased to 5.98 inches.
So more of the wheel sits over the axle.
The final wheel is 10 inches wide, but this
one has an offset of -24mm.
Being a wider wheel you might expect it to
sit even farther back than the previous two
wheels, however that is not the case.
The negative offset means the mounting surface
is pushed inward.
This wheel has 4.56 inches of backspacing.
So less of the wheel sits over the axle.
For our next two examples we’ll look at
what happens to a hypothetical 20x10 wheel
with a +100 offset and another with a -100
offset.
You can see on the -100 offset wheel just
how little backspacing there is, and the exact
opposite on the +100.
That’s why it is important to consider width,
backspacing, and offset when looking for new
wheels.
It’s never fun to spend your hard earned
money on a new set of wheels only to find
out they rub when turned to full lock or that
they won’t fit over your brakes.
Lastly, it should be noted that it’s ideal
to keep the offset as close as possible to
the stock wheel, as changing this can affect
the geometry of the suspension and even cause
extra stress on the different components.
Be sure to take into account your modifications
like lift kits when looking over different
wheel options as well, since most are designed
around certain specifications.

The 2020 Hyundai Palisade Looks Great But Is There a Catch? | First Look | Edmunds

The 2020 Hyundai Palisade Looks Great But Is There a Catch? | First Look | Edmunds

Edmunds:

WILL KAUFMAN: I'm here at the
2018 Los Angeles Auto Show,
and behind me is Hyundai's
new flagship SUV--
the three row Palisade.
[MUSIC PLAYING]
I'm going to tell you everything
I know about the new Palisade.
But first, while I've got
you here, why don't you
hit the Subscribe button.
[MUSIC PLAYING]
The Palisade has a lot of
features that three row SUV
buyers should like.
It's got a power third row.
It's got ventilated
second row seats,
a special new air
diffuser to deliver air
more quickly and quietly
to the rear passengers.
You also get a big 10.25
inch infotainment screen.
And Hyundai's really nice stereo
system is an option, as well,
along with all of their
safety technology.
It's also actually pretty large.
This is larger in every
dimension than a Toyota
Highlander, and it's
got a longer wheelbase
than a Ford Explorer.
That's pretty hefty,
and it's translated
into some good interior space.
I actually had a chance
to sit in this vehicle,
and the second row had
plenty of room for me.
Even in the third row, I did OK.
The interior design is also
actually pretty attractive.
There's some nice feeling
materials in there,
and it looks like
they've taken some design
cues from their genesis brand.
For me, though, the one question
mark has got to be the engine.
Now, on paper, it
looks pretty good.
You get a 291
horsepower V6 standard.
However, it's an
Atkinson Cycle Engine.
It's the same cycle that
Toyota uses for the Prius.
So it gives you more
efficiency, but there are
some trade-offs in performance.
There's also no
optional engine, here.
And Hyundai has not
published any towing numbers.
Without an optional engine and
some sort of towing figure,
we've got to assume
this isn't going
to be a top pick for
people who want to tow.
I like what Hyundai has
been doing recently,
and I like what I've seen
of the inside of this car.
They're going to give
you a lot of great tech,
you're going to get
a good warranty.
And I've got to
assume it's going
to be a pretty good
value for money based
on just what the company does.
The Palisade should go on
sale in 2019 as a 2020 model.
That's it for right now.
Make sure to check out

of our coverage of the Los
Angeles Auto Show and all
the other great
vehicles here, today.

The 1986 Chevrolet Camaro Iroc Z Budget Build Part 1 - Detroit Muscle S3, E1

The 1986 Chevrolet Camaro Iroc Z Budget Build Part 1 - Detroit Muscle S3, E1

POWERNATION:

(ANNOUNCER)>> TODAY ON
DETROIT MUSCLE WE START A
BRAND NEW BOTTOM DOLLAR
PROJECT THAT'LL TAKE A
TIRED '80'S ICON AND SHOW
YOU HOW TO GET SOME GO
FAST OUT OF IT.
(TOMMY)>> HEY FOLKS,
THANKS FOR JOINING US.
NOW WE'VE JUST ABOUT GOT
OUR OLD MOPAR, PROJECT
ULTRA VIOLET, ALL DIALED
IN AND READY TO TAKE IT
ON ITS MAIDEN VOYAGE.
SO WE'RE GONNA GO AHEAD AND
START US ANOTHER PROJECT.
AND LUCKILY FOR US
SHE JUST SHOWED UP.
[ SLIDING DOOR CLOSING ]
(MARC)>> NOW WE DECIDED TO
TAKE A CRACK AT A BUDGET
BUILD, AND WHEN IT COMES
TO BANG FOR YOUR BUCK IT
DOESN'T GET MUCH BETTER
THAN A PROJECT LIKE THIS,
A 1986 IROC-Z.
(TOMMY)>> THESE WERE THE
CREAM OF THE CROP WHEN IT
CAME TO THIRD GEN CAMAROS.
THEY WERE BASICALLY A
Z-28 WITH AN UPGRADED
SUSPENSION SETUP,
UNIQUE BADGING...
[ ENGINE STARTS ]
(TOMMY)>> ...AND A 190
HORSEPOWER TUNED PORT
INJECTED 305 SMALL BLOCK.
BELIEVE IT OR NOT, THAT
WAS QUITE A BIT OF
POWER FOR THE TIME.
(MARC)>> AND WITH ORIGINAL
MUSCLE ERA CARS GETTING
MORE RARE AND MORE PRICEY,
ONE OF THESE '80'S ERA
PONY CARS IS A GREAT
PLACE TO START IF YOU'RE
WORKING WITH A BUDGET.
THERE ARE A GAZILLION
PARTS AVAILABLE FOR THESE
CARS, AND THEY ALREADY
HANDLED AND STOPPED WAY
BETTER THAN ANYTHING MADE
IN THE '60'S OR '70'S.
OH AND ANOTHER BONUS,
SHE'S GOT T-TOPS.
(TOMMY)>> WE'RE GONNA
BE WORKING ON A $10,000
DOLLAR BUDGET, AND
THAT'S GONNA INCLUDE
PURCHASING THE CAR.
NOW WE SPENT $3,000 ON
IT, SO WE'RE GONNA HAVE
TO STRETCH THAT OTHER
$7,000 AS FAR AS WE CAN.
NOW WE ARE GONNA BE
REFURBISHING A FEW ITEMS,
AND THEN WE'LL SIMPLY
REPLACE A FEW OTHERS.
FIRST THING WE'RE
GONNA DO IS START
IN ON THAT ENGINE.
(MARC)>> YEAH AFTER
DIGGING AROUND A LITTLE
BIT, WE FIGURED OUT THAT
THIS IS AN F-C-T CODED
SMALL BLOCK, WHICH MEANS
AT SOME POINT IN THE THIS
CAR'S LIFE SOMEONE,
PROBABLY A HIGH SCHOOL
KIT, BLEW UP THE
ORIGINAL 305.
NOW THIS BLOCK'S OUT OF
A 1984 CHEVY C-10 PICK UP
TRUCK, BUT THE TOP END'S
ALL IROC, RIGHT DOWN TO
THE TUNED PORT INJECTION.
(TOMMY)>> FIRST ORDER OF
BUSINESS, WE'RE GONNA TAKE
US A FIELD TRIP DOWN TO
ENGINE POWER AND SET THIS
THING ON THE CHASSIS
DYNO SO THAT WE CAN
SET US A BASELINE.
YOU READY BIG GUY?
(MARC)>> I THINK SO,
AND I BROUGHT ALONG SOME
FASHION ACCESSORIES.
SO MAYBE I'LL FIT IN A
LITTLE BETTER WITH THE CAR.
(TOMMY)>> THIS BEING AN
IROC AND ALL, IT HONESTLY
FEELS LIKE WE'RE LIVING
IN AN '80'S ROCK VIDEO.
SO WHY NOT EMBRACE
THAT CONCEPT.
(MARC)>> YEAH, ESPECIALLY
WHEN IT COMES TO THE HAIR.
[ ROCK MUSIC ]
(TOMMY)>> IT'S RAINING
AWESOMENESS BACK THERE.
[ ENGINE REVVING ]
(TOMMY)>> FIRST
PULL 151 HORSEPOWER.
(MARC)>> WHOO, HONESTLY
THAT SOUNDS ABOUT RIGHT
FOR THE WEAR AND TEAR ON
THIS 305, AND SHE'S
PRETTY CONSISTENT TOO.
(TOMMY)>> SEVEN-TENTHS
MORE OF ONE HORSEPOWER.
(MARC)>> ALRIGHT, I
THINK WE'VE GOT IT.
(TOMMY)>> RIGHT
AT A WHOOPING 152.
(MARC)>> 152!
(TOMMY)>> TELL
YOU WHAT CUZ!
(MARC)>> WELL 152
HORSEPOWER, THAT'S
NOT GONNA CUT IT.
NOW AS ICONIC AS THAT
IROC-Z MAY BE, THE 305
UNDER THE HOOD'S NEVER
REALLY BEEN KNOWN
TO BE A POWERHOUSE.
NOW JUST TO CHECK WE
WENT AHEAD AND DID A
COMPRESSION TEST
AND A COUPLE OF THE
CYLINDERS ARE DOWN.
SO INSTEAD OF JUST
THROWING OUR BUDGET AT THE
305, WHICH IS A LITTLE
SCARY, WE'RE GONNA JUST GO
AHEAD AND PULL IT OUT.
(TOMMY)>> IT'LL BE A LOT
EASIER TO WORK ONCE THE
COOLANT SYSTEM IS OUT OF
THE WAY, BUT WE'RE GONNA
KEEP IT TO BE
REUSED LATER ON.
(MARC)>> WELL WE COULD
TEAR DOWN OUR 305 AND
FRESHEN IT UP, WE COULD
EVEN THROW A STROKER KIT
AT IT, BUT THAT WOULD
REQUIRE SOME MACHINING AND
PURCHASE OF THE KIT.
AND WE'D STILL ONLY BE AT
ABOUT 330 CUBIC INCHES.
WHAT'S BETTER THAN
THAT, 350 CUBIC INCHES.
WE GOT THIS SHORT BLOCK
CHEVY RIGHT HERE, AND IT
IS A BIT USED BUT WE'RE
ALREADY GONNA BE ABOUT 45
CUBIC INCHES AHEAD.
NOW A LOT OF YOU GEARHEADS
AT HOME MIGHT HAVE
SOMETHING LIKE THIS LAYING
AROUND OR YOU KNOW SOMEONE
WHO DOES, LIKE WE DO.
WE WENT DOWN TO ENGINE
POWER AND PICKED THIS UP.
THIS IS FROM AN OLD
PROJECT OF THEIRS, AND
IT'S GOT SOME MILES ON IT
BUT THIS IS EXACTLY THE
KIND OF THING YOU
CAN FIND ONLINE FOR
ABOUT $500 DOLLARS.
SO JUST TO BE FAIR, WE'RE
GONNA THROW $500 DOLLARS
ON OUR BUDGET AND
ROLL WITH THIS.
THE FIRST THING WE'LL DO
IS GET THE TIMING COVER
OUT OF THE WAY TO
ALLOW ACCESS TO THE
TIMING SET AND CAM.
IT LOOKS LIKE THE ENGINE
POWER GUYS PUT A NICE
DOUBLE ROLLER ON HERE BUT
IT STILL NEEDS TO GO SO
THAT WE CAN
GET TO THE CAM.
(TOMMY)>> WE'RE NOT SURE
WHAT KIND OF GRIND THIS
CAM HAS, WHICH IS THE CASE
A LOT OF YOU WOULD RUN
INTO WHENEVER YOU
PICK UP A USED BLOCK.
SO WE'LL JUST GO
AHEAD AND PULL IT.
A BOLT PLACED INTO THE END
OF THE CRANKSHAFT MAKES IT
A LOT EASIER FOR
OUR PULLER TO
GET THIS GEAR OFF.
IT'S A NICE PART BUT WE
WANT TO MAKE SURE THE ONE
THAT WE USE MATCHES
THE PIECES WE'RE
GOING TO INSTALL.
(MARC)>> SOME SCOTT SHOP
TOWELS WILL BE A BIG HELP
IN KEEPING ANY DEBRIS
OUT OF THE INSIDE OF OUR
BLOCK, SINCE THE NEXT
STEP IS GOING TO
INVOLVE CLEANING IT UP.
WE'VE GOT TO SCRAPE OFF
SOME OLD SILICONE AND
GASKETS BECAUSE YOU HAVE
TO MAKE SURE THAT YOUR NEW
ONES WILL GET A GOOD SEAL,
AS WELL AS ALLOWING THE
PARTS TO SEAT PROPERLY.
[ FILE SCRAPPING ]
[ COMPRESSED AIR BLOWING ]
(ANNOUNCER)>> AFTER THE
BREAK FIND OUT WHAT KIND
OF GOODIES ARE GONNA
PUT SOME PEP IN THE
STEP OF OUR IROC!
(TOMMY)>> ALRIGHT GUYS,
WE'VE GOT OUR ENGINE ALL
CLEANED UP AND WE'RE
READY TO START BOLTING ON
OUR GO FAST GOODIES.
NOW WE'VE GOT US A TOP END
KIT FROM TRICK FLOW THAT'S
GONNA GIVE THAT F-BODY
SOME GIDDY UP AND GO!
OUR KIT INCLUDES A SET
OF ONE POINT FIVE RATIO
ALUMINUM ROLLER ROCKERS,
A BILLET TIMING CHAIN, ALL
THE LIFTERS WE'RE GONNA
NEED, AND A BUMP STICK
THAT'S GONNA GIVE US
SOME PERFORMANCE AND
THAT SWEET SOUND.
THESE HEADS ARE THE BEST
PART OF OUR UPGRADE.
IT'S A SET OF ALUMINUM
TRICK FLOW 195'S.
THEY HAVE THE 62cc
CHAMBER, THE 202 AND 160
VALVES, AND THEY'RE REALLY
GONNA COMPLIMENT THAT
LITTLE SMALL BLOCK CHEVY.
TO TOP IT ALL OFF THIS
STREET BURNER ALUMINUM
DUAL PLANE INTAKE WITH
THAT OPEN AIR DESIGN
THAT'S GONNA HELP
KEEP YOUR FUEL
CHARGE A LITTLE COOLER.
(MARC)>> WHEN YOU'RE
INSTALLING A SET OF HEADS,
IT'S OF UPMOST IMPORTANCE
TO TORQUE THE HEAD BOLTS
TO THE PROPER POUNDAGE, AS
WELL AS FOLLOW THE TORQUE
SEQUENCE THAT THE
MANUFACTURER RECOMMENDS.
THIS IS THE SEQUENCE
FOR THESE HEADS.
(TOMMY)>> THE CAM CAME
WITH A PACKET OF ASSEMBLY
LUBE, BUT IF YOUR CAM
DOESN'T YOU NEED TO MAKE
SURE THAT YOU GET
YOUR HANDS ON SOME.
IT STAYS ON THE PARTS FOR
THOSE FIRST FEW CRITICAL
MOMENTS WHEN YOUR ENGINE
IS INITIALLY FIRED.
ONE GOOD WAY TO DO IT
WITHOUT MESS IS TO LUBE
THE LOBES AND BEARINGS AS
IT GOES INTO THE ENGINE.
JUST BE SURE THAT YOU
DON'T USE SO MUCH OF IT
THAT YOU DON'T
HAVE ANY LEFT FOR
THE LAST FEW INCHES.
(MARC)>> NOW WE CAN
INSTALL THE CRANK GEAR
THAT CAME WITH OUR
TRICK FLOW TIMING SET.
USING A BRASS DRIFT ON
ALTERNATING SIDES IS A
GOOD WAY TO PREVENT
DAMAGING IT.
NOW FOR THE CAM
GEAR, WHICH IS A
LITTLE MORE COMPLEX.
NOW WHEN WE'RE INSTALLING
A TIMING SET ON A SMALL
BLOCK CHEVY LIKE THIS, WE
LIKE TO POINT THE TIMING
MARKS AT EACH OTHER, WHICH
IS THE EASIEST WAY TO MAKE
SURE YOU'RE NOT GONNA GET
THE CHAIN OFF BY A TOOTH.
BUT YOU HAVE TO REMEMBER
WHEN YOU DO THIS, EVEN
THOUGH THE NUMBER ONE
CYLINDER IS AT THE TOP,
IT'S AT THE TOP OF THE
EXHAUST STROKE AND NOT
AT THE TOP OF THE
COMPRESSION STROKE.
SO ONCE WE GET THE TIMING
CHAIN ON, WE'RE GONNA TURN
THE CRANK SHAFT OVER ONE
FULL REVOLUTION TO BRING
THIS TIMING MARK TO
THE TOP AND GET US AT
TRUE TOP DEAD CENTER.
(TOMMY)>> LIKE HE SAID,
YOU'VE GOT TO MAKE SURE
THAT THE INDICATORS
ARE DEAD ON ONCE THE
CHAIN IS INSTALLED.
THEN WE CAN INSTALL
THE BUTTON AND IT
GETS CINCHED DOWN.
THE BUTTON ISN'T MANDATORY
BUT IT HELPS TO KEEP THE
CAM WHERE IT'S SUPPOSED TO
BE, AND THESE TABS KEEP
IT ALL LOCKED IN PLACE.
NOW IT CAN BE SPUN TO TRUE
TOP DEAD CENTER WITH THE
TIMING MARK POINTING
STRAIGHT UP.
(MARC)>> WE CAN GET THE
GASKET IN PLACE AND THEN
INSTALL OUR SHINY NEW
CHROME TIMING COVER.
IF YOU USE A POWER TOOL
LIKE THIS TO RUN THE BOLTS
IN BE SURE TO LEAVE THEM
A COUPLE OF TURNS OUT SO
THAT YOU CAN TORQUE THEM
TO THE PROPER AMOUNT.
WHILE WE'VE BEEN
INSTALLING OUR CAM SHAFT
AND TIMING SET, OUR
LIFTERS HERE HAVE BEEN
SOAKING IN SOME
CONVENTIONAL 30 WEIGHT OIL.
THE REASON WE DO THIS IS
BECAUSE THESE HYDRAULIC
LIFTERS NEED TO BE
PRE-SOAKED SO THEY'RE
PRIMED WHEN WE GET
THEM IN THE ENGINE.
AH!
(TOMMY)>> THE HEADS COME
WITH A-R-P STUDS AND WE'LL
USE SOME A-R-P FASTENER
LUBRICANT ON THE THREADS
AS WELL AS SOME ROYAL
PURPLE ASSEMBLY LUBE
ON THE PUSH RODS
AND VALVE STEMS.
THEN THE ROCKERS CAN
BE LAID INTO PLACE.
WE'LL TIGHTEN THE
NUTS DOWN UNTIL
WE HIT RESISTANCE.
(MARC)>> NOW WE'RE
GETTING READY TO ADJUST
OUR ROCKER ARMS.
NOW SINCE THESE ARE
HYDRAULIC LIFTERS WE HAVE
TO ADJUST THESE
TO ZERO LASH.
WHICH MEANS THERE'S GONNA
BE NO SPACE, NO PLAY IN
BETWEEN THE ROCKER
AND THE VALVE STEM.
THE BEST WAY TO DO THIS
IS WHEN THE EXHAUST VALVE
BEGINS TO OPEN, WE ADJUST
THE INTAKE SIDE, AND THEN
WHEN THE INTAKE SIDE
BEGINS TO CLOSE THAT'S
WHEN YOU ADJUST
THE EXHAUST SIDE.
OKAY FIRST THE INTAKE.
TURN IT UNTIL YOU BEGIN
TO FEEL RESISTANCE,
THEN GRAB YOUR WRENCH.
WE'LL TAKE IT DOWN A HALF
TURN, THEN JUST A LITTLE
FARTHER WITH THE SET
SCREW TO KEEP IT IN PLACE.
THEN WE NEED TO SPIN
THE ENGINE UNTIL THE
INTAKE STARTS TO CLOSE.
THEN WE'LL JUMP ON THE
EXHAUST SIDE ROCKER.
IT'S THE SAME
PROCEDURE ON ALL THE
REST OF THE ROCKERS.
(ANNOUNCER)>> STICK AROUND
AND UNCOVER OUR BUDGET
HORSEPOWER SECRET!
(MARC)>> HEY GUYS, WHILE
YOU WERE GONE WE WENT
AHEAD AND INSTALLED SOME
NEW VALVE COVERS, NEW
WATER PUMP, REINSTALLED
THE BALANCER AND THE OIL
PAN, AND SWITCHED OVER TO
THIS ACCEL VACUUM ADVANCE
H-E-I DISTRIBUTOR THAT WE
GOT FROM SUMMIT RACING.
THE REASON WE HAD TO DO
THAT IS BECAUSE WHEN WE
GOT RID OF OUR E-F-I
SYSTEM WE GOT RID OF THE
DISTRIBUTOR THAT WAS
ELECTRONICALLY CONTROLLED
AND SWITCHED OVER TO
THIS VACUUM ADVANCE.
NOW IF YOU GUYS REMEMBER
WE ROTATED THE CRANK SHAFT
OVER ONE FULL REVOLUTION
BRINGING US UP TO
TRUE TOP DEAD CENTER.
WE HAVE THE ROTOR POINTED
AT CYLINDER NUMBER ONE,
MADE A MARK RIGHT HERE.
WE'RE GONNA LINE IT UP
AND THAT'S WHERE WE'LL
PUT THE NUMBER ONE WIRE.
(TOMMY)>> ONE GREAT THING
ABOUT THIS PARTICULAR
ENGINE SWAP IS THAT SINCE
IT'S JUST ANOTHER SMALL
BLOCK CHEVY, IT WILL
PLUG RIGHT INTO THE
HOLE WITHOUT ANY
MODIFICATION TO THE
MOUNTS OR TRANSMISSION.
WE HAD TO PULL THE VALVE
COVERS TO KEEP THEM FROM
GETTING SCARRED UP.
BUT IF THAT'S THE WORST
THING WE HAVE TO DEAL
WITH, WE'RE IN
PRETTY GOOD SHAPE.
WHILE YOU GUYS WASN'T
LOOKING WE WENT AHEAD AND
BUTTONED UP THE BELT
DRIVES AND THE COOLING
SYSTEM ON OUR IROC, AND
NOW WE'RE GONNA MOVE
ON TO THE FUEL SYSTEM.
NOW ORIGINALLY THIS CAR
CAME WITH FUEL INJECTION
BUT NOW IT'S GONNA BE
RUNNING A 600 HOLLEY.
ONE OF THE ISSUES WITH
CONVERTING IT OVER
TO THE CARBURETOR
IS THE FUEL SUPPLY.
THE PUMP THAT'S
IN THIS CAR MAKES
TOO MUCH PRESSURE.
SO WE'LL JUST SIMPLY DIAL
IT BACK USING A REGULATOR.
(MARC)>> BUT BEFORE WE
PUT THE CARB ON WE'VE GOT
SOMETHING EXTRA JUICY
TO BOLT ON FIRST.
NOW THAT EXTRA JOLT WE'RE
TALKING ABOUT IS GONNA
COME FROM THIS SNIPER
NITROUS KIT FROM N-O-S.
IT'S GONNA ADD UP TO 150
EXTRA HORSEPOWER ON TOP OF
WHAT OUR 350'S GONNA
PRODUCE, AND THAT'S GOOD
FOR US BECAUSE WE'RE ON A
BUDGET, AND WHEN IT COMES
TO POWER ADDERS, YOU'RE
NOT GONNA FIND MUCH BETTER
BANG FOR YOUR BUCK
THANK A NITROUS KIT.
NOW THIS IS A PLATE STYLE
SYSTEM, WHICH UTILIZES
THIS INJECTOR PLATE AND IT
BOLTS BETWEEN THE CARB AND
THE INTAKE, AND IT
ALSO COMES WITH ALL THE
PLUMBING TO HOOK IT UP.
THESE JETS THAT COME WITH
THE KIT WILL GIVE US AN
EXTRA 100, 125, OR 150
HORSEPOWER DEPENDING ON
WHICH PAIR WE USE.
AND OF COURSE IT COMES
WITH ALL THE ELECTRICAL
COMPONENTS TO
ARM THE SYSTEM.
NOW WE WENT AHEAD AND
ASSEMBLED OUR PLATE
WITH THE SOLENOIDS.
AND THEN WE PUT THE JETS
IN THERE FOR THE 100 SHOT
BECAUSE WE WANTED TO BE
A LITTLE CONSERVATIVE,
AT LEAST FOR NOW.
I'M GONNA MAKE SURE THIS
PLATE GOES WITH N-O-S SIDE
POINTING UP, AND WE CAN
PUT OUR GASKET ON FOR THE
CARB, DROP ON OUR HOLLEY
CARB, AND LOCK IT DOWN.
WE'LL USE THESE ADAPTERS
ON THE STOCK FUEL LINES
AND MOUNT OUR REGULATOR
ON THE WHEEL WELL.
[ DRILL SPINNING ]
(MARC)>> WE MADE A COUPLE
OF HOSES THAT WILL TIE THE
FEED AND RETURN LINES TO IT.
SO WE'LL PLUG
THOSE IN AS WELL.
BE SURE TO USE THE PROPER
ANODIZED LINE WRENCH IF
YOU'RE UTILIZING
A-N FITTINGS.
THEN WE CAN TIE IN THE
LINES TO THE SOLENOID AND
THE CARB BECAUSE IT'S
A WET NITROUS SYSTEM,
MEANING THAT IT SPRAYS
MORE GAS AS WELL
AS THE NITROUS OXIDE.
WE'LL THEN HOOK UP OUR
NITROUS LINE AND GET OUR
BOTTLE STOWED IN
THE BACK OF THE CAR.
(TOMMY)>> NOW WE'RE
GETTING TO THE END OF THE
ROAD WHEN IT COMES
TO OUR INSTALL HERE.
THE NEXT THING
WE'RE GONNA DO IS
FINISH UP THE WIRING.
THE FIRST THING THAT YOU
WOULD NORMALLY DO IS MOUNT
YOU A BIG GNARLY
SWITCH INSIDE THE
COCKPIT SOMEWHERE.
THAN THING WILL
ENERGIZED THE SYSTEM.
AND THEN THE NEXT THING
YOU WOULD WANT TO DO IS
WIRE UP THIS MICRO SWITCH.
WHAT IT DOES, IT ACTUALLY
ENERGIZES THOSE SOLENOIDS
AND MAKES EVERYTHING
GET HAPPY.
THIS MICRO SWITCH IS
ACTUALLY PRETTY SIMPLE.
WHEN THE THROTTLE GETS
PUNCHED ALL THE WAY UP IT
PUSHES ON THE SWITCH AND
CLOSES THE CIRCUIT, WHICH
THEN SPRAYS OUR
GO-GO JUICE.
(ANNOUNCER)>> UP
NEXT IT'S DYNO TIME!
[ ENGINE REVVING ]
(TOMMY)>> WE'VE GOT OUR
350 PLUGGED INTO OUR
LITTLE YELLOW IROC AND
SHE'S READY TO GO BACK
ON THE OLD DYNO DOWN
IN ENGINE POWER.
(MARC)>> YOU
READY TO DO THIS?
(TOMMY)>> YEAH I'M
OUT OF THE WAY.
(MARC)>> ALRIGHT, YOU
MIGHT WANT TO STAND BACK.
[ ENGINE REVVING ]
(TOMMY)>> 227.
(MARC)>> SAY THAT AGAIN.
(TOMMY)>> 227.
(MARC)>> 227?
(TOMMY)>> 227, YEAH OUR
FIRST PULL, OUR POWER
NUMBER WASN'T THAT
IMPRESSIVE BUT AFTER
OUR UPGRADES
DRASTIC IMPROVEMENT.
(MARC)>> WE'RE NOT
TRYING TO LAY DOWN EARTH
SHATTERING NUMBERS WITH
THIS BUDGET SMALL BLOCK,
BUT WE'RE ALREADY QUITE
A BIT AHEAD OF WHERE WE
STARTED, AND SHE'S
LOOKING REALLY
CONSISTENT WITH THE PULLS.
IT LOOKS LIKE WE'RE
ABOUT 75 HORSEPOWER.
(TOMMY)>> ALRIGHT GUYS,
WE'RE GONNA PULL A LITTLE
BIT OF TIMING OUT OF THIS
THING, AND PRETTY MUCH A
RULE OF THUMB IS TWO
DEGREES PER 50 SHOT.
AND THE REASON YOU'D WANT
TO DO THAT IS BECAUSE
PULLING THE TIMING OUT OF
IT, IT REDUCES THE CHANCES
OF DETONATION BECAUSE
WHENEVER YOU SPRAY IN THAT
NITROUS, THIS INCREASES
THE CYLINDER PRESSURE.
ANOTHER THING THAT YOU'D
WANT TO DO IS PUT IN A
COOLER SET OF PLUG, AND WE
WENT AHEAD AND DONE THAT
WHENEVER WE WERE
DOING THE INSTALL.
(MARC)>> WITH OUR 100 SHOT
OF NITROUS WE'RE PULLING
FOUR DEGREES OF BASE
TIMING OUT, PUTTING IT
RIGHT AT FOUR DEGREES.
LITTLE BIT, LITTLE
BIT, RIGHT THERE.
ALRIGHT, HERE WE GO!
(TOMMY)>> LET ME
STEP OUT OF THE WAY.
UH OH!
(MARC)>> IT DIDN'T
LIKE THAT DID IT.
(TOMMY)>> I'LL BET IT
AIN'T GOT NO GAS IN IT!
[ ENGINE REVVING ]
(TOMMY)>> ONCE WE MANAGED
TO FIND A CAN OF GAS, IT'S
TIME FOR A MOTOR ONLY RUN
WITH THAT TIMING PULLED
OUT JUST TO MAKE SURE
IT STILL LIKES IT.
[ ENGINE REVVING ]
(MARC)>> 220, YEAH THAT'S
WHAT IT MADE BEFORE.
ALRIGHT, SO WE'RE
ALL FINISHED WITH
OUR ALL MOTOR RUNS.
SO WE'RE GONNA GO AHEAD
AND ARM THE SYSTEM HERE,
TRY THE NITROUS.
[ ENGINE REVVING ]
(MARC)>> SHE PULLS A LOT
HARDER WITH THE SPRAY,
PUTTING IT RIGHT AT
294 HORSEPOWER, AND 351
FOOT POUNDS OF TORQUE.
OKAY WELL WE MANAGED TO
PUT A LOT MORE PEP IN THE
STEP OF THIS IROC,
AND WE'RE GONNA STAY
CONSERVATIVE ON THINGS
LIKE THE TUNE, THE TIMING,
AND THE NITROUS BECAUSE
THIS IS A BUDGET BUILD AND
WE DON'T WANT TO FIND
THE NEXT WEAKEST LINK.
(TOMMY)>> FURTHER DOWN
THE ROAD YOU NEVER KNOW.
WE MAY END UP THROWING
THE SPURS TO HER JUST
A LITTLE BIT MORE.
BUT HEY, EVEN ERRING ON
THE SIDE OF CAUTION WE
STILL MANAGED TO
DOUBLE THE POWER THAT
WE STARTED WITH.
AND WITH ABOUT $3,500
BUCKS MORE TO SPEND
THERE'S STILL A LOT
MORE ROOM TO MAKE ON THE
IMPROVEMENTS OF THE
SUSPENSION AND THE INTERIOR.

2018 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 – Review and Off-Road Test

2018 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 – Review and Off-Road Test

Kelley Blue Book:

The Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 is a rock-crawling, trail-blasting dirt goblin
spawned from Chevrolet's mid-sized
Colorado pickup truck.
The ZR2 has been meticulously modified
for an unpaved world. It has electronic
locking differentials front and rear, the
bumpers have been altered for improved
off-road clearance,
there's underbody protection for the
rocker panels, radiator, oil pan, and
transfer case, you can swap the
standard carpet for easy-to-clean vinyl
floor at no cost and rubber meets
whatever via 31 inch Goodyear Wrangler
Duratrac off-road tires mounted on
17-inch aluminum wheels. Oh and a
dealer-installed tire carrier can be
mounted in the bed for redundancy and
style points. Unsurprisingly the off-road
tires make a fair bit of noise on
pavement. Consider that motivation to
avoid pavement. Most impressive is the
ZR2's suspension. In addition to cast-iron
control arms, a 2-inch higher ride, and a
three and a half inch wider track the
suspension's movements are damped by
Multimatic DSSV dampers. Without diving
down a technical rabbit hole
the Multimatic dampers replace the
piston and shims found in traditional
shocks with spool valves, offering
superior reliability, tunabilty, and
performance on or off road. For
perspective, my first exposure to
Multimatic DSSV dampers was in the
Camaro ZL1 1LE. It's kind of cool to see
that technology applied to an off-road
pickup truck. So all the pieces are in
place for a top-shelf off-roader let's
see what two days driving Zulu Romeo
deuce can teach us.
We just arrived at our first off-road
location. I'd like to point your
attention to the gauge cluster. There's
two things that are vexing me right now.
One is the check engine light. The other
is that even if you go through the
process of turning off Stabilitrak it
will still reactivate, which means the
kind of, you know, fun sideways
shenanigans you would hope to do in like
an off-road truck aren't really possible
if you can't use that power on oversteer.
As I turn and floor it Stabilitrak says
"no". I am making the truck dusty though
that is a form of fun. Yeah.
Making my way around. I'm doing a lap!
I'm doing a lap!
Okay.
So, after a little bit of messing about
on the playa here I've discovered that
the ZR2 can be fun when you pick up the
speed. So if you do parking lot style,
slow-speed donuts not a great jam but if
you pick it up a little bit you can
brake into corners and get the the truck
to rotate and that's kind of fun.
And I will point out that with its
small form factor you can squeeze
between bushes and all sorts of fun
stuff.
Alright, day one taught us that the
Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 can be fun and
fast but in our case that fun included
complications. Of course as soon as we'd
wrapped the check engine light magically
disappeared. As for the unwanted
Stabilitrak intervention our contact at
Chevy suggested my rally-inspired, left-foot braking might be the culprit.
Undeterred we marched onward to day two.

Though I love driving fast and sideways
my hope is that the ZR2 is better suited
to traditional off-roading. You know, trails,
rocks, articulation.
Off-road the ZR2 rides more firmly than I
would have expected. If you go bouncing
through some whoops
you will notice.
I have noticed there's a ton of bumper
and ground clearance. In fact I haven't
scraped yet which means I might not be
trying hard enough. Hmm, just scraped. I guess I am
trying hard enough.
Despite being a midsize the turning
circle on the ZR2 is not great. So if you
need to backtrack on a trail and do a
u-turn it's gonna be Austin Powers style.
Mostly though I'm impressed with the way the ZR2 claws its way up rock-strewn
hills. It's small enough that you can
choose the smart path but also capable
enough to handle with dumb one. And I
will say that slow speed rock climbs are
the right application for the diesel
engine. There's so much torque the only
question is whether the tires have
enough grip for the surface. So far the
answer is yes.
If you have a passion for dirt the
Colorado ZR2 is a clearly capable choice
but there are others.
The iconic Jeep Wrangler is one and the
Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro is another. At the same time, even though it's a larger
truck and costs at least ten thousand
dollars more, comparisons to the Ford
Raptor
are inescapable. If driving as fast as
possible across the desert is your goal
the infinitely-driftable, Baja-ready
Raptor remains to go to choice. Even so
there are some very good reasons to
choose the Colorado ZR2. As a midsize-er
the Colorado slips through gaps that
would confound a full-size pickup. That
manageable form factor also makes
domestic life much more enjoyable.
Speaking of size the ZR2 is offered as
an extended cab with a six-foot bed or
an optional crew cab with a 5-foot bed.
If you have more friends than stuff choose the crew cab.
Considering its off-road technology the ZR2's $41,000 base price, including
destination charges, is a relative
bargain. For that sum you get 6 airbags,
MyLink infotainment with an 8-inch
screen, a trailering package with
integrated brake controller, and Teen
Driver; a feature that lets parents
customize vehicle behavior for
inexperienced drivers. Because not every
teenager will make the kind of smart,
mature decisions that I do.
Yeah, responsibility!
If you want the towing and fuel economy
benefits of a diesel in an off-road
package there aren't many choices. The
diesel ZR2's superior range also
addresses range anxiety when exploring
true desolation. That said, for driving
quickly the 3.6-liter gasoline engine is
the right choice. The 2.8-liter is rich
in torque but it is not quick.
For transmission duty the diesel uses a
6-speed automatic while the gasoline
engine sports an 8-speed. Interestingly
the gas and diesel engines are both
rated to haul 5,000 pounds, though I'm
guessing the diesel's nearly 100 pound -foot advantage makes that load more
bearable.
Alright, the check engine light is off. My
left foot is well clear over the brake
and the rear differential is
electronically locked. Let's see if I can
slide this thing.
Saints be praised. The ZR2, she slides! Weee!
The Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 might not
replace my favorite domesticated trophy
truck but it is still a very fun,
effective, right-sized tool for
off-roading. For those occasions where
you absolutely positively need to flee
the city, the ZR2 is a brilliant ride

This is just going to be a
quick walk around, on this brand
new 2020 Chevy Traverse, but
stay tuned, I'm going to give
away this $25 gas card, I'll
let you know later on in this
video how you can get entered
into the contest for this gas
card.
So, let's take a look at this
2020 Chevy Traverse Redline
Edition.
(soft piano music)
All right, so here's a look
at this 2020 Chevy Traverse,
Redline edition.
We just got this vehicle in,
2020's are starting to ship now
to the dealerships, not much
really changed on the vehicles
from the 2019 to the 2020,
they just kinda changed some of
the packages and stuff, within
the vehicle itself. Most of
the same features are still all
available on the 2020's that
were available on the 2020's.
This one is a silver ice
metallic color, so the redline
edition is basically a
premiere model with the special
redline package, where you get
the blacked out, aluminum, 20
- Inch rims, with the red
accents, the badging as you can
kinda see, is blacked out, with
the red outline as well, and
then all of the bumpers and
stuff is all blacked out as well
black bow ties, and then the
front grill is blacked out with
the black bow tie as well, so,
the Redline edition is avail-
able in silver, black, white,
and also in the iridescent
pearl white as well.
This does have a 3.6 liter V6
motor in it, gets you about 27
on the highway and around 18 in the city.
We do price our vehicles to
sell here, this is just going to
be a quick walk-around on
this vehicle, so if you're
interested, or want to learn
more, feel free to hit me up,
all my contact information is
a link in the description in
this video, so shoot me a
email or shoot me a text, and I
can either schedule a time for
you to come in and check it
out, or I can schedule a time
for you to send you some more
information, and a little
more in-depth look at this
vehicle.
This vehicle does come with
a three year, 36, bumper to
bumper warranty, along with
a five year 60,000 powertrain
warranty, and then Deien's
own lifetime powertrain
warranty, as well.
So, let's take a look at
the interior of the vehicle.
All right, so also on the
Redline edition, you do get the
blacked painted mirrors, and
then also the handles and stuff
are all painted black as
well, it does have the keyless
entry with remote start, and
then also your keyless rear
hatch release as well, it
does have a proximity lock and
unlock so you just walk, hit
this button right here, and you
can lock and unlock the vehicle,
then here's a look on the
interior, this is the jet-black
interior, and then you do
have the power windows, power
locks, you can program the
seat adjustments there, you
got your power mirrors there,
you do have a selectable height
as far as the rear lift gate
,it does have the Bose stereo
system in it, this one, we did
put the all-weather floor
mats in it, both driver and
passenger seats are power, and
heated and vented, and then
you do have the heated steering
wheel, and then here's just
kind of a quick look at the
interior of the vehicle.
All right, here's a look in
the back, you still get the
power windows back here, like
I said you do get the all-
weather floor mats, does have
the captain's chairs there,
the second row is heated and
you do have two USB ports plus
the 120 volt power outlet, and
you have the rear AC controls
, and here's a look in the third row.
Then with the Redline package
you do get the power sun roof,
and then also the second
row skylight is part of that
package as well.
All right, so something I like
to point out whenever I do a
review on a third row vehicle,
is how easy it is to get into
the third row, so, the Traverse
on the passengers side, they
make this seat move furthest
up so that they know that
whenever you pick up kids you
always pick them up on the
passenger's side, so they don't
walk out in traffic, so you
grab this handle right here,
and it slides up, and basically
you still have enough room in
there if you do need to have a
front facing car seat, but
gives you quite a bit of room to
get into that third row, and
the seats do move forward and
back as well, as far as for
positioning, so you can have
quite a bit of room in that
third row as well, even for
adults.
All right, like I said, it does
have the keyless rear hatch
release, as well, but with
the premiere models you do get
that hands-free lift gate,
so as you can see there's a
little bow tie right here,
that kinda lights up on the
floor, it projects down, so
let's you know exactly where you
need to kick, and basically if
you have your hands full you
can basically unlock it, so
you just walk up, put your foot
underneath there, it trips that
sensor, and then it opens up
the rear lift gate.
Then here's a look in the back,
it does have the all-weather
floor mats back here to protect
the back as well, then the
seats of course do fold down,
and then you do have the
compartment underneath here,
and then your spare tire is up
underneath there, and then
you do have the 12 volt outlet
over there, some tie-down
slots, as well, and then also in
the third row there is USB
ports on both sides, so you have
the option of charging, which
you know kids love to charge
their stuff, and even adults,
it's a good way to charge your
phone or something if you're on a trip.
Then, it does have the power,
just hit that button right
here, and then it'll close on its own!
All right and here's a quick
look at the interior of the
vehicle, it does have the
heated steering wheel, cruise
control, and then also your
collision alert, there.
It does also have the auto
high beams feature, so you can
set that and basically it'll
automatically turn your high
beams on and off when you're
driving, which is definitely
kinda nice.
You've got the gauges, you
got your driver's information
controls, and then your
Bluetooth controls there, it does
have the push button start
there, has the Chevy Mylink radio
system, AM/FM, and silent
radio, it does have phone and
Bluetooth capabilities, it does
have the built in navigation
so you can have navigation
actually built into it, or you
can actually use Andriod auto
or Apple CarPlay, and use
your Google maps, or whatever
mapping service you use on
your phone.
It does have the wifi hotspot
as well, it does have this
little compartment back here,
too, and then, they did get
rid of the USB port back here,
so that is gone on the 2020
models, and it does have a backup camera.
So you've got a 360 degree,
birds-eye view, plus your rear
backup camera, and then some
different camera, your camera
angles, and it also has a
front facing camera as well, so
if you need to pull up to
something close in the garage,
then you have that ability.
It also has the rear camera
mirror, rear view mirror, also
this is actually using the
camera in the back, so it's
unobstructed view as far as
behind you, if it's too much you
can always flip it down and do
the regular rear view mirror
there, but it does have the
rear view camera mirror option
as well.
Then down here you do have your
heat elemented seats, duals
on, and then you can also control
your rear climate controls
through the touch screen.
It does have the wireless
charging pad down here, you got
two USB ports, and AUX in, and
an SD card slot there, plus
you got your 12 volt outlet
there, and then over here you do
have your drive modes, and
then inside here there's no USB
ports in the center console
or anything like that.
All right, once again this
is Chevy Dave here from Deien
Chevrolet, this was just a
quick walk around on this brand

Chevy Silverado 25000HD Oil and Filter Change: 6.0 Oil Change and Oil Life Reset

Chevy Silverado 25000HD Oil and Filter Change: 6.0 Oil Change and Oil Life Reset

Escape PowerSports:

hey ya'll, its Danny with Escape Power Sports.
And I went to change the oil on our new/used
work truck for first time last Saturday and
I figured I'd share the procedure with ya'll,
in case anyone was interested in seeing how
to change the oil yourself in a 6 liter gas
powered Chevy.
I started by running the truck for a few minutes
to warm up the oil.
And once she's warmed up it, it sure don't
hurt to pop off the oil fill tube, to help
the oil drain smoothly.
Then we can grab a 15mm socket or wrench,
crawl under the passenger side of the truck,
and remove the drain plug here.
Got the truck up on blocks so hopefully we
can see a little better, but to get to that
drain plug we're gonna come in here on the
passenger side.
And right there on the bottom of the motor,
over here on the passenger side, you can see
your 15mm drain plug, right there.
Having a drain bucket ready, to catch the
oil, and a few shop towels for our tools and
hands.
And at this point I like to put a piece of
duct tape right over the key hole.
Just to make damn sure she don't get cranked
up without oil in her.
Now oil filter tools come in a variety of
shapes and sized, and work in a couple different
ways.
But the bottom line is any of these tools
should work on this truck.
And to get to that oil filter, we're gonna
come in here from the driver side, if I can
crawl up under here, and show ya.
Oil filller, oil filter's gonna be right here
over on the driver's side.
Nice and easy to get to.
Now we can remove our old oil filter by spinning
it counter clockwise.
And after picking the wrong oil filter off
the walmart shelf, I just went to the local
auto parts store to make sure I ended up with
the correct one.
And once its finished draining, will add a
dab of oil, to the rubber gasket on the new
filter and thread it into place clockwise,
it don't have to be crazy tight or anything.
Now usually at this point I like to spray
this area with degreaser and hose off the
mess to make checking for leaks easier.
but all my cans of degreaser we're frozen
solid, so we'll just get em next time.
With our new oil filter in we can re-install
our drain plug.
And I like to go until its hand tight and
then an 1/8ths to a 1/4 turn with the ratchet.
And if you got a torque wrench that'd be even
better you can just set it to 18-20 ft. lbs.
Now we can add 6 quarts of your 5w-30 oil
of choice.
I went with this walmart brand oil because
it was the cheapest full synthetic, it was
the correct 5w-30 weight and it had all the
performance certifications the chevy book
said to check for.
That being said if your budget allows for
6 quarts of the pricier mobil 1 full synthetic,
I hear its great stuff.
But what's really whats most important is
that we change our oil when the light comes
on, or on your trucks recommended schedule.
With our 6 quarts of oil in we can check our
dipstick has oil on it , and crank her up
checking for leaks around the oil filter and
drain plug.
And I definitely like to check the oil again
after the trucks ran for 30 seconds or so
as the reading will go down, once the oil
has had a chance to circulate through the
motor.
And I'll add some oil if necessary to get
to the middle of that safe range.
And I'll also check the oil a couple times
in the coming week as I put miles on the truck,
just to be 100% sure she's getting the proper
lubrication to her delicate motor parts.
Now on this new/used truck I was able to scroll
to the oil change notification and trip reset
button to reset it.
But on our work truck model I do it by turning
the key to the on position and mashing the
gas three times right quick without starting
the truck.
Anyway I hope this helped with your 6 liter
Chevy oil change.
And if it did do me a quick favor and give
this video a thumbs up.
And if you happen to haul Polaris or Can-Am
atvs and side by sides with your chevy truck,
check out some of our other how-to videos
on those machines.

want to thank ya'll for watching and until
next time, we'll see ya'll on the trails.

Why Not to Buy a Chevrolet HHR Car

Why Not to Buy a Chevrolet HHR Car

Scotty Kilmer:

rev up your engines,
Marco's Delgado says Scotty I want to
get an HHR with a manual transmission
has 130,000 miles what are your thoughts
okay I don't like those GM products they
generally don't hold up over time, but
it's a standard transmission the worst
thing about the HHR are their automatic
transmissions are garbage and you don't
have one it's a manual transmission, now
that sets got 130,000 miles it's got a
little bitty four-cylinder engine in it
don't pay much for it, because they are
worth much when they're used, you get a
standard you get it at a cheap price
right, change the oil a lot take care of
it, who knows but don't pay much for it because just realize it when they get older
they're not worth that much money and
you want to pay much for it, and if you
get it cheap enough, hey you never know
it might last a long time just don't pay
too much for it because it isn't worth
that much, Theresa B says I got a 1998
Ford Taurus W hundred and sixty-four
thousand miles for free, but the radiator
was rusty, flushed alone, suspensions bad
valve cover transmission leaks
needs transmission motor mounts are
Ford Taurus is good car, okay
that's 98 Ford Taurus they actually had
quite a bit of problems, now the thing is
you got that car for nothing,
it runs decent and shifts decent do the
valve cover, oil leaks if it's not
leaking that bad, transmission fluid and
engine oils cheap just keep adding it,
and if the suspension is bad get some
struts and put them on it on and it will ride a
lot better, just don't put a whole bunch
of money into it, my advice would be,
drive a little while see how you feel
with it, does it feel solid enough does
it run and shift good enough and if it
does fix things a little at a time, if
it doesn't have just drive until the
wheels fall off and get rid of it, you
got it for nothing so you're not really
gonna be losing anything,
MDS 81 68 says, Scotty I have a shake or
wobble in the front when I take off from
a stop once in a while I thought it
could be the engine, clean the MAF
throttle port cleaner I had strut
replaced and it's still shaken or wobble
when I take off from a stop, a lot of
times it's just the motor or the
transmission mount is worn, because when
you take off, there's more torque on the
engine and so if the mounts are gone it will
wobble as it bounces back and forth
you want to check those mounts first to
see if there's any problem with that, now
let's say you have a car that is a
notorious problem like say, a Chrystler minivan that's doing
that
odds are two transmission is starting to
go out, because when you take off, if it
wobbles a lot of times it's the
transmission just starting to go out,
because if you got a suspension problem
like a bad tire or worn tie rods, the
faster you go the more it's gonna wobble
and yours is the other way around, it's
wobbling when you're taking off, you want
to pray that it's not an internal
transmission fault, because if it's that
you would have to go and get it rebuilt
which costs a fortune, so pray that it's
a motor or transmission mount first
because they're very easy to check, Zeno
2019 says Scotty I got a 2004
Trailblazer
and my dash lights aren't working what
could be the cause, people had the radio
out before the original dash cluster
and we got three more clusters put them
in and the light still didn't work what
could it be
it could be not having the radio when
you swap it out, because GM has these
insane designs, some of the modern cars
won't even start if you swap the radio
because part of the starting system
is in the radio circuitry, so you want to
check all the wiring by where the radio
was, something could easily be off now if
you hadn't had that radio taken out and not
replaced, the problem often is on those
you turn your lights on then you got
those things to make the lights brighter
or dimmer, that part often breaks now
that can be bypassed
because you can just take the wire off
of that and you can run it directly to
the clusters, when you have the car
running the cluster will get 12 volts
all the time and then the lights would
stay on, you couldn't adjust them and
make them dim or make them bright they'd
be bright all the time but hey, look at
me I'm getting old I want a bright so I
want those things as bright as they can
be, first thing I do is go to the light
feed on that cluster and just give it 12
volts and as it lights up, just rewire it
so that power comes from the ignition
switch to there when you start it up and
they'll be lit up all the time, Edoardo
Becerra says, Scotty hello from Italy I
have a 1984 Audi Quattro it overheats the
fan works I checked the inlet and outlet
temperature the two radiators and enters
in at 240 and exits at 140 what can it be, okay well it's leaving at a lot lower it's your
radiators are losing a hundred degrees
so they're getting rid of heat they're
doing their job, now the problem with
Audi's is, as they age they often have
problems with blown head gaskets, your
engine could just be putting out so much
heat that it's overheating
you want to watch my video, how to tell
if your head gasket is blown, do that test
because if the head gasket is blown it'll
overheat no matter how fast your
radiator can dissipate heat the engine
will create too much heat and then it will
keep overheating, so if you never want to
miss another one of my new car repair
videos, remember to ring that Bell!

2018 Chevrolet Equinox Model Review | Edmunds

2018 Chevrolet Equinox Model Review | Edmunds

Edmunds:

[MUSIC PLAYING]

SPEAKER 1: Right here we have
the 2018 Chevrolet Equinox.
It's completely
redesigned this year
and it's a huge improvement.
The big question is,
is it good enough?
[MUSIC PLAYING]
So with this 2018 redesign
for the Chevrolet Equinox,
it's kind of pushed the
dial, but not really too far.
The overall shape and some of
the style, it carries over.
But we've got nicer
headlights and this grill
that kind of echoes the Camaro.
So, a little sporty,
and a little edgy.
Now it is kind of
a big SUV shape.
Let me explain that.
Almost all SUVs have this--
this gray bar on the bottom
and it takes a lot
of the weight off
because if it was
body-colored, it'd
kind of look like a minivan
with really big wheels.
That's not really
that attractive.
Another way they shave off
some of the visual weight
is with this nice cove here
that runs all the way down
here in a curve and kind
of scoops it out there,
as well as some more
surfacing up here.
There's also a nice
chrome surround
around the windows and this
roof rack on this top trim.
In the back, the taillights
echo the headlight shapes up
front, as well as these bevels
and these run through lines,
so even though it really didn't
move the dial very far, as far
as style, it's
kind of a safe bet.
So the base engine for all
Chevy Equinoxes is a 1.5-liter
turbocharged four-cylinder.
It makes a 170 horsepower.
Not really that great.
This is the 2-liter
turbocharged four-cylinder.
It makes 252 horsepower,
and that's actually
really good in here.
Plus, it's made it to
a nine-speed automatic
transmission so you get
really good punch acceleration
off the line, but
then up top, the gears
get really tall so that
you get better fuel economy
on the highway.
Speaking of fuel economy, this
gets about 25 miles per gallon.
That's three MPG less
than the base engine,
but the real kicker is it's 5
MPG less than the Honda CR-V.
It's got a good balance
of fuel economy and power.
[MUSIC PLAYING]

So right off the
bat, there's really
nothing that's standing
out with this new Equinox.
That's not entirely a bad
thing because if there
was an issue, well, I would
definitely know about it.
The power with this
optional 2-liter engine--
it's plenty.
I've got all the
power I need to pass.
Ride quality is
smooth, but I'm still
feeling all of
the imperfections,
so it's pretty much like the
rest of the SUVs in this class.
What I am noticing though, is
a little bit more road noise
than I'm used to
hearing in the class.
Wind noise-- not so bad.
The engine doesn't sound half
bad either when you get on it.

It's got some grunt.
As far as power is concerned,
if I wanted to pass,
just lay into the throttle.
It's fairly quick to downshift.
It's got nine speeds
in the transmission,
so it kicks down fairly
quickly a few gears.
This time around, there are
a lot more advanced safety
features.
Pretty much what we expect.
One thing we have is the
frontal collision warning
in mitigation.
There's a button right
here, amongst all the cruise
control buttons, and it allows
you to adjust the sensitivity.
You don't have to go
searching through menus,
you don't have to hit five
different buttons to get there.
You have one, two,
three different levels
so that if, say you're
getting a lot of false alarms,
or you think it's
too sensitive, you
could have it fire off
a little bit later.
If you're getting a warning
from the frontal collision
or the lane departure, you
start feeling this buzzing
from the seat.
It's significantly
stronger than, let's say,
the vibrate mode on your phone.
But also, I get--
it's kind of a head up
display but not really-- it's
just some flashing lights
that shine back to alert you
that traffic is slowing down.
It's bright enough, it
gets your attention,
and if I didn't hit
the brakes, well, it
would hit the brakes for
me, fairly aggressively.
Outward visibility is OK.
I feel like nowadays,
the rear window
is getting smaller and smaller.
This one seems to
be pretty generous.
It gives you a very
good indication
of what's back there.
With this trim and
this option level,
you also get the 360-degree
surround-view camera.
Pretty much all the guess-work
is taken out for you.
As far as climate
control goes, well, it's
dual-zone automatic
climate control.
Once I set it, I
really don't have
to mess with it after that.
But I do have one gripe.
It's these vertical vents
next to the infotainment.
Visually, it frames
it up nicely,
but in practice, it's a little
prone to some cold spots.
It's chilling my arm
and my knuckles--
not ideal.
I point it away, but now
I'm not getting on me,
so I'd prefer if these were
horizontal vents that give
a little wider dispersed flow.
So yeah, that's one of those
form over function things.
It's a little bit of a
sacrifice, not a deal-breaker.
All right, so we're inside
the Equinox and design-wise,
again, it's an improvement.
It's got some nice, graceful
shapes framing everything.
Materials quality,
however, it's a little bit
below what we're used to
seeing from some of the latest
crossovers.
This, in particular,
is kind of hard plastic
and the graining almost
reminds me of a dinosaur toy
or something, like
the the dinosaur skin.
There are some soft
touch materials.
I mean, they really do
feel like vinyl or plastic,
but they are a well-shaped.
They don't bother my
elbows after a long drive.
The steering-wheel controls
are pretty much just
the regular Chevrolet
steering wheel,
which you'll see in
almost all of their cars.
And that's not such
a bad thing, either.
These covered rubber buttons,
they're easy to clean.
They're actually
fairly easy to use too.
The latest Chevy MyLink
system, it's quick to respond.
One of the best
things though, it
comes with Apple CarPlay
and Android Auto, standard.
The seats-- they're pretty good.
I'm missing a little bit of
thigh-support at the end, here.
But I can see why they did
that too, for shorter drivers,
you certainly don't want a
seat cushions that's too long.
With the Equinox,
there's plenty of room
for all your personal effects.
You have some decent-sized
cup holders, here.
You have a wireless
charging pad, as well.
And this center-bin
is really deep.
You can get a lot
of stuff down there.
And there's even a
nice little pocket
here for your cell phone.
Right here you
have two USB ports,
and an auxiliary jack,
another two in the center
bin, and yet another
two for the backseats--
USB ports for everyone.
So here I am in the backseat
of a 2018 Chevy Equinox
and it's pretty
spacious, actually.
I'm actually getting
a decent amount
of thigh-support, which is a
little rare in compact SUVs.
I have plenty of legroom.
I'm just kind of average
in height, so yeah,
that's pretty nice.
Even with this
panoramic sunroof,
my hair's just barely
brushing the headliner.
Same materials
quality back here.
Other SUVs, they'll actually
use these kind of materials
back here, but nicer materials
up front because you generally
have kids back here who are
kind of messing stuff up.
There's two more
USB ports back here
and there's also a 120-volt
household outlet down below.
You know, if you have a
laptop that you need charged
or even if you have a
game console hooked up
to an in-car entertainment
system-- that
would be pretty cool.
Another power point
here, another 12-volt,
and we have two-stage
seat heaters, here.
You can either choose both
the seat cushion the seat back
to heat, or just the seat back.
And that's only for
the outboard seats.
Right here, nice cup
holders, nice armrest,
it's the right height.

Now the center seat, it's,
as you can see, pretty flat.
And when you're sitting
in that position,
it actually feels like it's
got a little bit of a crown,
so probably more suitable
for a child's seat or very
small person.
Otherwise, yeah, I would
be totally fine back here
for a road trip.
So when it comes to
cargo with the Equinox,
it's kind of a mixed bag.
I do like that it has the
hands-free power lift gate.
Now, you noticed I kicked
it on the left side.
I had to look it
up in the manual
because I was trying
to do the swipe thing--
that wasn't working.
It has to be there, it
has to be an upward kick.
Now, cargo space.
30 cubic feet behind the second
row, 63 with them folded.
It is a decent amount, but
it's significantly less
than the Honda
CR-V. So, it really
is going to depend on how
much stuff you really have.
I do like that you have a lot
of underfloor storage here
and these seats,
like the CR-V, fold
flat without having to reach
forward or open the back doors.
So depending on what
your priorities are
and how much storage
you really need,
the Equinox might actually
hold all your stuff.
[MUSIC PLAYING]
So the bottom line for the 2018
Chevrolet Equinox is price.
It's expensive for
what you're getting.
As tested, it's $40,000.
Honestly, I mean,
that's the territory
for the starting price for
the BMW X3 and Audi Q5.
So it's practical, it's got all
the flexibility you need out
of an SUV this size, but
you do have to pay attention
to the options you're adding.
It's going to get
expensive real quick.
