BEST AMERICAN TRUCK -- 2019 Chevy Silverado vs. 2019 Ford F-150: Comparison

BEST AMERICAN TRUCK -- 2019 Chevy Silverado vs. 2019 Ford F-150: Comparison

Car Confections:

As everyone knows pickup trucks are by far the best selling vehicles in the US
So when any change occurs to these models, it's a big deal of
Course f-150 has been the Sales Leader among them
But the Silverado is not too far behind even before this all-new model arrived in the showrooms
So with that said let's go ahead and see if the all-new Silverado has what it takes to pass up for its heavy weight
So like always the first thing we'll do is establish the pricing and option levels of these two models
starting off with our f-150
We have one of the highest equipped models the Platinum
This scores you all the luxury upgrades and a starting price of fifty eight thousand three hundred forty five dollars with four-wheel drive
From there. We do have some additional equipment as well including the 701A package
3.5 liter EcoBoost engine panoramic moonroof trailer backup assist and a spray in bedliner
All told with the $1495 destination the total rings in at sixty six thousand one hundred sixty-five dollars
Next up we have the brand new silverado in its highest trim the high country
Similar to the Ford it starts off a little over
56,000 dollars with four-wheel drive, but from there, we have the high country deluxe package optional 6.2 liter v8
Technology package power assist ups and a couple other things
After including the same $1500 destination charge the total price is sixty six thousand four hundred twenty five dollars
So make no mistake. These two are full-blown luxury vehicles
But anyways with these two nearly identical priced trucks. Let's go ahead and see who comes out on top
Even though trucks this expensive may not see much hard work will still start out with the important mechanical bits
First with the engines both have the optional upgraded ones that go about their business in very different ways
Ford uses a three and a half liter twin turbo v6 making
375 horsepower and 475 feet of torque
However, it is still out matched by the Chevy's traditional 6.2 liter naturally aspirated v8
making significantly more power at
420 horsepower and still coming within 5% of its massive torque figure at
460 pound-feet
One really interesting thing is that they both have the exact same transmission. So it's Ford and Chevy co-developed the ten speed automatic
Now moving into how they actually drive the short summary is dang good
Both have really impressive power
And as far as real world feel
I can't say that I could tell much of a difference even though the Chevy is up on power
But I will say one important difference at least to me is how the
6-2 sounds versus the Fords engine which makes virtually no sound at all
Both transmissions behaved with near transparency and even though neither of them have any air suspension or active dampers
The rides are still very compliant
and
Then ending here with fuel economy, even though the Chevy does sound better that is offset by the fuel economy
With the Silverado you're coming in at 17 combined while the f-150 beats it by two MPG combined or 19 combined
But anyways that wraps up the basics of the powertrains. So now let's check out the designs and features
While I'm going to be as objective as possible, I will still take a moment to compare the styling in general
Starting off with the Chevy the front design doesn't stray too much from the outgoing model
it has a more modernized take on the signature Chevy grille and
You'll find special bronze badging and high cut your branding to distinguish it from the more plebeian models
On the Ford it just got a refreshed last year. So it continues to have the same silver grille which is unique to the Platinum
It also comes standard with these very nice full LED headlights
The Chevy's headlights are also fully LED, but they have a more unique look that contours with the shape of the grill and
Then both also have LED fog lights at the bottom
At the sides both the Silverado and f-150 are available in a ton of different configurations
But these terms have a more limited selection
They can only be had in the large four door crew cab configurations, but you can still choose between short and standard bed lengths
Now most of the time when it comes to the rear trucks look pretty much the same but here they're actually quite different
The main thing you'll notice is the Fords silver tailgate which shows off how much you spent
but at the same time the Chevy has dual horizontal exhaust outlets, which I don't think any other truck has and
Then as far as lighting both have LED tail lights
So overall both have handsome designs and since they do have identical features, I won't award any point
Now moving around to all the other features the f-150 comes with fairly plain looking 20 inch alloys
while the Silverado has more eye-catching
22s and
as far as the mirrors, they both have heating power folding auto dimming and blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert and
Speaking of BSM both trucks come with a ton of other safety features
Including forward emergency braking with pedestrian detection
Lane departure alert and auto high beam headlights
however, the Silverado is strangely missing adaptive cruise control as
Far as warranties go the two vehicles are identical
They both get 5 year 60,000 mile power train warranties and 3 year
36,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty
However on the Silverado you will find that your first maintenance visit is complimentary
Moving on to towing the smaller engine 4. It has a pretty substantial advantage our
F-150 has the max trailer tow package
But the Silverado won't allow you to combine the max trailering package with the optional deluxe or premium packages
That means that the Ford can handle 13,000 pounds versus 9300 pounds in the Chevy
But of course you could increase that rating to twelve thousand two hundred pounds if you're willing to go without the extra luxury features
of course, one of the most important parts of a truck are the beds
One either of these luxury trucks may truly get dirty
You still have plenty of capability with factory bed liners tons of tie-downs and LED lighting
The Silverado however also adds a household outlet for powering tools plus it has a class exclusive power tailgate
and
Then as far as accessibility both trucks have solutions for accessing the bed easily
But only the Silverado has running boards a slight backwards to help with side access
Finally we'll wrap up the outside with the fuel ranges the f-150s towing package also includes the extended 36 gallon fuel tank
Which is much larger than the Chevy's 24 gallon tank
Considering that the port also gets better fuel economy. Its range is significantly better at
674 miles vs. 408 in the Chevy
Well that pretty much sums up the exterior, so now let's get inside and see which truck offers the most lecture
So getting inside both trucks have smart entry as well as remote start
When you first open the door both models have power deploying running boards
But looking inside the cabins themselves, they have luxurious if familiar looking cabins, we have the full black color schemes
But richer looking Brown options are also available
Turning to the seats themselves both are 10-way power adjusting
However, the four has four-way lumbar support as well as a massaging function that the Chevy is missing
Once inside each truck has a pleasant design and very nice materials
on the f-150 you have soft touch plastic with stitching across the top and
Then you have real open pore wood in the middle as well as on the center console
The Chevy's materials are very similar with the upper - being made from a stitched soft touch
Plastic and the middle area having a leather red trim
High-country has a bronze colored plastic trim as well as some folk wood accents
The door trims mirror those same materials
So the f-150 will win the materials point since it has real open port wood that looks and feels more upscale
On both press the button to start
When you do eight-inch displays will fire up and we'll talk about the software later
Like the screens the gauges are pretty similar
Both have large displays in the middle of analog gauges with more information than you'll probably ever need to see
However, the Silverado does also have a large head-up display, which is something that no other truck in the class has
Now backing up to the steering wheels they are both leather wrapped and heated but it's only power adjusting with memory on the fourth
Also, this generation of the Silverado has eliminated power adjusting pedals, which the Ford does still have
Now moving on to the important subject of storage both deliver it in abundance
The main center consoles are roughly equivalent in their huge size but because the Chevy has a column shifter
There is more storage up in front of it
This area does also double as a wireless phone charger, which is something not available on the Ford
Checking out those shifters sans location. The Ford's is leather wrapped while the Chevy's is just plastic
both trucks do have various drive modes and manual shifting and then when you shift into reverse a
360-degree camera will pop up
as far as the quality the
Silverados does win here because the resolution is better and there are several more views to choose from all which are handy when maneuvering something
so big
However to counteract that the Ford does include automatic parking for both parallel and perpendicular spots
Both trucks come with integrated trailer brakes, but only the Ford has a system that controls the steering when backing up the trailer
Next up we have the climate controls where both are simple dual zone automatic setups with physical controls that you can operate with gloves on
Both also have three-stage seat heating and three-stage seat ventilation
Though I appreciate the ability to heat the back and butt separately on the Silverado
Now let's go ahead and sample the audio systems
I
Realized the audio samples are not really good but in real life before B&O impressed me more
now for the infotainment system
Starting with the Ford we have the latest version of sync 3
This continues to be a very easy system to use with shortcut buttons on the bottom and a home screen
We do also have integrated navigation. But even if you don't get a loaded trim, you still have standard Android auto and apple carplay
Moving to the Silverado. It has the brand new Chevy infotainment 3 system this year
The new layout is actually pretty similar to sync 3, but I did find that this system has snappier performance
The navigation system has great-looking graphics, but again both Android auto and apple carplay are standard
Overall both are excellent systems, and there's really not enough difference to award any points
Before going to the back seats. There are two more meaningful things up front
The first is this Chevy exclusive rear camera mirror which cuts out all the obstructions that might be blocking your view
But the second thing is the F-150s pano moonroof
Which is something that's still not available on a Silverado
In the rear seats the luxury continues as I mentioned before all the trucks have more legroom than
flagship luxury vehicles nowadays in
this case and insane 43.4 inches of legroom in the Chevy and
43.6 inches in the Ford and then as far as Headroom, they're both slightly open 40 inches
Once in the back you'll find tons of amenities both have rear air vents charging USB ports and a 12-volt outlet
But only the Ford has a household outlet they both also have heated seats
And lastly both trucks have seats that fold up for more storage though, the Silverado also has a hidden storage bin in the seat
So with that we wrap up another super-competitive comparison as you would expect both trucks give it a great effort
So no matter what your brand allegiance may be do yourself a favor and check them both out in person
Overall, you really can't go wrong
We hope this has been an insightful comparison for everyone

THE TRUCK ITSELF I CAN'T BACK UP I CANT REALLY
THE 6.0L DIESEL I CAN'T BACK UP THE DIESELS
THROUGH I REALLY STRUGGLE I WANT TO AND THE
CONVERSATION THAT WE HAVE IN THE SHOP ALL
THE TIME ALL THE TIME IS IF WE HAD ONE OF
THESE TRUCKS WHATEVER IT MIGHT BE AND WE SERVICED
THEM THE WAY WE SERVICED OUR TRUCKS WE RAN
ALL INTERNATIONAL TOW TRUCKS WE WOULD DRIVE
TRUCKS FOR 500,000 MILES AND SELL THEM WITH
THE ORIGINAL TRANSMISSION AND ENGINE IN THEM
WE JUST SERVICED THEM WE TOOK REALLY GOOD
CARE OF THEM SO IF WE HAD A FORD 6.0L IN OUR
SHOP SAY IF WE HAD A SHOP TRUCK WE RAN AND
WE SERVICED IT THE WAY WE KNOW HOW TO TAKE
CARE OF IT WOULD THEY BE A PILE OF JUNK I
DON'T KNOW BUT YOU KNOW EVERYBODY KNOWS THE
PROBLEMS WITH THE 6 O'S I MEAN THEY HAVE HAD
THEM FOREVER AND THEN YOU KNOW OF LOOK AT
THE 6.4L AND YOUR LIKE TURBO TURBO TURBO TURBO
YOU KNOW OR IT HAS TWO TURBOS RIGHT YOUR HAVING
TURBOS BECAUSE OF THE CERAMIC BEARINGS AND
SOME OTHER THINGS AND THERE HAVING OTHER ISSUES
LIKE THAT AND SO WELL THEY ONLY MADE THAT
MOTOR FOR A COUPLE OF YEARS AND THEN YOU LOOK
AT THE 6.7L AND YOU KNOW PRETTY COMPLICATED
TO WORK ON MAYBE NOT COMPLICATED TO WORK ON
DIFFICULT TO WORK ON YOU KNOW THE ENGINE KEEPS
GETTING PUSHED BACK FURTHER IN THE CAB AND
THE HOOD KEEPS GETTING SHORTER AND SHORTER
THERES LESS AND LESS ROOM TO WORK YOU GOTTA
PULL THE CAB TO WORK ON IT RIGHT PRETTY MUCH
AND THERE KIND OF ALL LIKE THAT BUT SAY IF
I HAD A DREAM TRUCK RIGHT IT WOULD BE FORD
CHASSIS WITH A ALLISON TRANSMISSION IT WOULD
HAVE A 6.7L CUMMINS RIGHT SO TAKING THE WITH
AN ALLISON TRANSMISSION AND NOW YOU HAVE THE
PERFECT TRUCK BECAUSE THEY ALL SO FORD GM
AND CHRYSLER ARE LISTENING THAT WOULD BE THE
PERFECT TRUCK IT WOULD BE A PERFECT TRUCK
I MEAN I LIKE EVERYTHING ABOUT THE FORDS I
LIKE THE CHASSIS AND I MEAN I DON'T KNOW WE
DON'T WORK ON ANYTHING THAT HAS THE ALUMINUM
BEDS I HEAR THOSE ALUMINUM BEDS ARE HORRIBLE
REALLY WHAT HAVE YOU HEARD WELL LIKE THEY
SCRATCH AND GET DINGED UP FOR A WORK TRUCK
YOU KNOW MOST OF THE STUFF WE WORK ON IT'S
A CAB AND CHASSIS THEY PUT A FLATBED ON OR
THEY PUT A TOOLBOX ON IT SO WE DON'T HAVE
A LOT OF STUFF LIKE THAT YOU KNOW EVEN THE
DURAMAX IT WHAT KILLS ME ABOUT THE DURAMAX
IS THAT YOUR BASICALLY WHAT AN ISUZU ENGINE
RIGHT AND SO YOU CALL AND WE'RE GOING TO PUT
CYLINDER HEADS ON THIS ISUZU OR WHATEVER OR
WERE GOING TO REDO THE CYLINDER HEADS OR DO
SOME WHATEVER AND SO YOU CALL AND YOUR LIKE
I NEED HEAD GASKETS FOR THIS ISUZU AND THERE
LIKE WHICH HEAD GASKET DO YOU HAVE I DON;T
KNOW YOU HAVE MY VIN NUMBER RIGHT IM CALLING
A GENERAL MOTORS STORE OH YOU NEED TO COUNT
THE HOLES ON IT AND SAME THING IF YOUR WORKING
ON ISUZU YEAH SO IF YOU DON'T SAVE THE HEAD
GASKET YOUR SCREWED CAUSE THEN YOU GOTTA TAKE
ALL THE MEASUREMENTS AND TRY TO PUT IT BACK
YOU KNOW LIME ON NO IT HAS ZERO HOLES NO I
HAVE ONE HOLE THATS KIND OF CRAZY RIGHT LIKE
HOW CAN THEY NOT HAVE THAT FIGURED OUT IF
IT'S A FORD I DON;T CARE IS IT A 6.0L 6.4L.
OR A 6.7L IF I TELL THEM I NEED A HEAD GASKET
FOR THAT VIN NUMBER FOR THAT ENGINE YOU KNOW
THEY KNOW IT'S THE SAME HEAD GASKET YOU KNOW
WHAT I MEAN THE 6 7 YOU HAVE THE SAME I KIND
OF STRUGGLE WITH WITH AH WITH THAT AND LIKE
I SAID WITH THE 6.7L CUMMINS YOU KNOW THEY
HAD SOME TROUBLES WITH THE 6.7L YOU KNOW THE
CUMMINS HAD SOME PROBLEMS WITH THE TURBOS
COKING OVER AND SOME THINGS LIKE THAT BUT
THOSE ON THE CUMMINS YEAH ON THE CUMMINS THEY
DID HAVE SOME PROBLEMS I THINK THEY TOOK CARE
OF THEM THEY SAID IT WAS A PROGRAMMING ISSUE
I DIDN;T LIKE THE WAY DODGE TOOK CARE OF IT
LIKE BASICALLY THEY WERE TOLD TO DRILL A HOLE
IN THE TURBO AND THEN PUT THIS SPRAY SOME
SPRAY IN THERE SPRAY THIS CLEANER IN THERE
SPRAY SOME HAIR SPRAY IN THERE NO AND SO THIS
OLD MAN SAID HEY CAN YOU DE COKE MY TURBO
I SAID YEAH WE'LL TAKE IT APART AND GLASS
BEAD IT AND GET ALL THE COKING OUT OH NO THERE'S
THIS CHEMICAL YOU CAN RUN THROUGH THERE YOU
DON'T KNOW HOW TO DO THAT SAID NO WE WON'T
DO IT CAUSE IT WON'T WORK SO ANYWAYS I TOLD
HIM LOOK YOUR TRUCKS BOOSTING AT ROUGHLY 52
PERCENT OK CAUSE IT CAN'T OPEN AND VARIABLE
GEOMETRY THE TURBO JUST CAN'T OPEN ALL THE
WAY SO THAT'S WHY YOUR DOWN ON POWER JUST
LET US TAKE IT APART AND REBUILD IT SO WE
TAKE IT APART AND REBUILD THE TURBO AND NOW
IT'S BOOSTING AT 97 PERCENT SO HE'S HAPPY
HE'S NOT HAPPY THAT WE HAD TO TAKE THE TURBO
OUT AND REBUILD IT CAUSE HE WANTED ME TO DO
IT THE WAY DODGE DID IT WHEN IT WAS STILL
UNDER WARRANTY SO NO IT'S NOT UNDER WARRANTY
AND YOU KNOW HE DOSEN'T WANT TO TAKE IT BACK
SO ANYWAYS HE BRINGS ME THIS CAN OF MOPAR
STUFF AND HE SAYS CAN YOU AT LEAST TRY IT
I'M LIKE I DON'T NEED TO TRY IT HE'S LIKE
CAN YOU JUST TRY IT YEAH WE HAVE A COUPLE
OF OLD TURBOS LAYING AROUND HERE THAT ARE
SHATTERED OR WHATEVER THAT ARE COKED OVER
NOT TO A CUMMINS BUT JUST TO SOMETHING ELSE
HE SAID CAN YOU TEST ON THERE OK SO WHAT WE
DID WE BROKE THE CAN OPEN RIGHT AND WE GOT
A SMALL CUP AND WE PUT A COMPONENT FROM THE
TURBO IN THERE AND WE POURED THIS STUFF IN
THERE AND JUST LET IT SOAK IN IT AND MAYBE
YOUR SUSPOSE TO GET IT HOT I DON'T KNOW MAYBE
THE TURBO GETTING IT HOT TURNS IN INTO SOME
MAGIC DUST AND TAKES IT ALL OFF IT DIDN'T
TOUCH IT REALLY NOTHING IT DIDN'T EVEN TOUCH
IT I MEAN IT DIDN'T EVEN TOUCH IT LIKE YOUR
THINKING WELL MAYBE IT WILL MAKE IT PLIABLE
OR GUMMY OR SOMETHING WE COULDN'T GET ANYTHING
OFF OF IT THEN YOU SEE THIS MAN STAYED ON
ME FOR LIKE A MONTH WANTING ME TO GET THIS
OK WE DID IT IT DIDN'T DO ANYTHING HOW LONG
DID YOU LET IT SIT FOR AH TWO OR THREE DAYS
YOU KNOW JUST SAT ON THE BENCH BUT MAYBE I
DON;T KNOW MAYBE THE CHEMICAL LIKE I SAID
WHEN IT GETS SUPER HEATED MAYBE YOU KNOW IT
IT ACTUALLY TURNS INTO FAIRY DUST WELL YOU
KNOW YOU KNOW HOW LIKE A PARTS CLEANER NOW
PARTS CLEANERS THERE HEATED LIKE A LOT OF
THE WATER BASED ONES IF THERE NOT HOT THE
HEATER STOPS WORKING THEY DON'T CLEAN ONCE
YOU GET THEM HOT THE HEATER WORKS NOW ALL
OF A SUDDEN THE HEATER IS ON IT WILL CLEAN
PARTS MAYBE IT WORKS LIKE THAT ON A HEATED
PARTS CLEANER YEAH MAYBE IT WORKS LIKE THAT
BUT WHEN YOU JUST TAKE IT OUT OF THE CAN AND
POUR IT ON SOMETHING YOU KNOW LIKE AT LEAST
WHEN YOU SPRAY PARTS CLEANER ON SOMETHING
IF YOU HAVE A PUDDLE OF OIL AND YOU SPRAY
IT YOU'LL SEE THE THE BRAKE CLEANER INSTANTLY
EATING IT YEAH WELL YOU DIDN'T SEE ANY EATING
TAKING PLACE BUT LIKE I SAID ONCE AGAIN I
COULD BE IGNORANT AND STUPID OR ONE OF THE
TWO YOU SHOULD OF JUST URINATED ON IT I COULD
URINATE ON YOUR TURBO DUDE AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS
LET IT SIT FOR A FEW DAYS SO A FORD CHASSIS
WITH A ALLISON TRANSMISSION AND A CUMMINS
ENGINE OH THAT WOULD BE A RIGHTEOUS TRUCK
RIGHT THERE YEP AND WE'RE HERE IN CALIFORNIA
SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA WHAT 40 MILES EAST OF
LOS ANGELES AND WE HAVE PROBABLY THE LEADER

When Dodge Bought Ford | WheelHouse

When Dodge Bought Ford | WheelHouse

Donut Media:

Ferrari vs. Lamborghini, Mitsubishi vs Subaru,
BMW vs. Mercedes… the list goes on.
“Wait, wait.
How ‘bout we settle this on the blacktop
huh?”
There’s about as many automotive rivalries
as there are cars… and they all had to start
somewhere.
In fact, the first rivalry in American automotive
history- a rivalry that’s still alive today-
dates back to detroit as early as 1900.
Today on Wheelhouse we’re talking about
the strange origins of Dodge vs Ford.
John and Horace Dodge were born in Niles,
Michigan about 200 miles west of Detroit,
a city they would help turn into an automotive
Mecca.
Much like my own dad, their father was teaching
them to be machinists.
Horace invented a dirt proof ball bearing
and shared the patent credit with his brother.
The red-headed Dodge bros were super tight,
and a had a twin-like bond despite the 4 year
age difference.
They started their own shop building bikes
and automotive components, until they got
so much business building car parts that they
ditched the bikes and just focused completely
on cars.
A guy named Ransom Olds employed the Dodge
brothers to build engines and transmissions
for his new automobile company: Oldsmobile.
Ransom needed some good machinists to get
that done, and the Dodge brothers were really,
really good machinists.
The partnership between Olds and the Dodge
brothers made them pretty wealthy, but the
Dodge brothers were just getting started.
They wanted to grow their newfound money by
investing in more companies.
Meanwhile, a 33 year old Henry Ford was also
pursuing his passion of engineering and fabrication.
Like the Dodge brothers, Ford was born in
Michigan and worked as a machinist.
And like the Dodge brothers, Ford quit his
day job at the Edison Illuminating Company.
In 1896 Ford completed work of his first vehicle,
the Quadricycle.
Ford opened his first business, the Detroit
Automobile Company in 1899, it was the first
automaker with headquarters in Detroit.
Unfortunately, it only lasted two years.
Today, we think of Henry Ford as a marketing
genius who brought cars to the masses...
But the Ford of 1899?
Not so much.
Back then Henry was an engineer, a brilliant
one, the kind of engineer who forgot to tell
people to buy his cars.
The Detroit Automobile Company went belly
up in a matter of months.
But Henry didn’t give up.
Two years later in 1901, He built a racecar
to prove his worth as a car designer. The two
cylinder racer he built set a speed record
at a horse track, a feat for which Henry was
awarded $1000 cash, fame and for some reason-
a punch bowl.
With his renewed street cred, Henry Ford founded
the Henry Ford Company, with big investors
backing him up.
The investors wanted Henry to design a lightweight
passenger car they could sell for cheap.
But Henry had caught the speed bug and got
to work on a four cylinder race car to break
his old record.
The investors were like “no, that won’t
make us any money you weirdo,” so Henry
Ford left the Henry Ford Company in 1902.
With Henry gone, the investors restructured
and renamed the company to honor the founder
of Detroit: Antoine de la Mothe Cadillac.
Cadillac.
So by 1903, Ford starts another company.
Despite the fact that he builds great race
cars, nobody wants to give him any money,
because they think he might just blow it on
race cars again.
He’s going around town, looking for cash,
but Detroit back then was a small place…
people talked, and the word was that if you
invest in Henry Ford, you’re going to lose
money.
But there were two young rich guys who didn’t
care what people said… and those guys were
the Dodge brothers.
They’ve got that Oldsmobile money burning
a hole in their pocket and they want to expand...
The Dodge boys knew that Ford had his back
against the wall- he was in debt, he lost
all his money leaving what was now called
Cadillac, and couldn’t get anybody else
to give him money for his new car company.
So the Dodge Brothers worked out a deal to
give Ford $10,000 worth of cash and materials
for his new Ford Motor Company.
And in return, the Dodge brothers demanded
a ten percent share of the company, AND the
rights to all of Ford’s assets in case of
another bankruptcy.
Effectively, the Dodge Brothers owned Ford,
both the company and the man.
Work began on Henry’s new cars.
Dodge supplied the chassis complete with engine
and transmission, and the rest of the car
would be finished at Ford’s plant.
As the Ford Motor Company grew, Henry slowly
became increasingly more eccentric.
He began to think of his own body as an automobile.
He Reasoned that if his cars were designed
to run off the best fuel, the same should
true for himself.
He adopted a nearly vegetarian diet, eating
veggies from his garden and “roadside greens”-
roadside greens are weeds.
People thought this was kind of weird, I mean
can you imagine, seeing your boss pull weeds
out from behind your building, and throw them
into his salad?
I’ve seen Pumphrey do some weird stuff but
nothing like that.
In fact…
I’ve never seen pumphrey eat ANY vegetable.
Except pickles of course, but are pickles
vegetables?
Anyway, the Dodge brothers didn’t seem to
mind Ford’s weird eating habits because
he was making them buttloads of money.
Plus, they were too focused on climbing Detroit’s
exclusive social ladder to care.
But polite detroit society didn’t want them.
John and Horace were known for hanging out
with their employees after hours, hitting
the bars and getting crunk next to the same
people who built their engines.
This made them unsuitable for Detroit high
society.
“Oh those Dodge brothers, do display most
contemptible of behavior.”
“Oh I agree, I agree wholeheartedly.Shall
we hit the brothel down the street then?”
“Absolutely.”
“Splendid.”
So what do you do if you want to be high society,
but they won’t even let you go to the symphony?
You buy the symphony.
John and Horace Dodge assumed the financial
liability of the Detroit symphony, effectively
buying their way into the Detroit elite.
Oh, you won’t let us into your club?
How ‘bout we just buy your club?
How you like them apples?
How ‘bout you lick my apples dude!
America!
That’s how we do it.
Capitalism.
Both Ford and the Dodge brothers were aspiring
industrial titans, with their own strange
eccentricities: Ford with his dandelion eating
ways, and the Dodge’s chips on their shoulders.
Naturally, a partnership between the two would
not last.
For years, the Dodge brothers had been giving
Ford suggestions on how to improve the Model
T; but Henry’s pride and stubborn nature
got in the way of listening.
He just thought they were trying to screw
him for more money.
It started to become clear that Ford was a
little paranoid.
They also soon realized that Ford was prejudiced…
against redheads.
Yeah… the Ginger-haired Dodge Brothers were
10% partners with a man who thought they were
evil because of their hair color.
Tired of being ignored by Henry, Dodge completed
construction on a massive new facility in
1910.
Their plant featured a floor to floor assembly
line, medical wing, and a machine shop called
“the Playpen” for workers to invent stuff
in their spare time.
The Dodge Brothers even served beer on the
assembly floor when it was hot.
Honestly, doesn’t sound like a bad place
to work.
By contrast, Ford had a “Sociology Department”
within his company that was almost like a
secret police.
They’d show up to your house to make sure
it was clean, they’d ask you about your
marriage, and made sure you weren’t drinking.
Safe to say there wasn’t any beer being
served at the Ford Motor Company.
Ford was suspicious.
Why were those Dodge brothers building a factory
to rival his own?
“Henry they’re not even Irish they just
have red hair.”
“I don’t care, I could smell them for
miles.”
Initially, the plant was cranking out Model
T components, as the Dodge Brothers had been
doing all along.
But Henry suspected the Dodge Bros were planning
to do something against him, so he preempted
their preemptive strike with a new factory
for himself.
The River Rouge plant allowed Ford to rely
solely on his own employees, and would be
cheaper than outsourcing his work to Dodge.
Ford might have been a weirdo, but his suspicions
were correct.
The Dodge Brothers were finished with being
ignored and decided they were gonna make their
own damn automobile.
In 1913 John Dodge resigned from his position
of Vice President at Ford, and announced the
Dodge Brothers would stop building cars and
parts for the Ford Motor Company so they could
make their own.
The Dodge Model 30 made more power than the
Model T, it had an electric starter, and a
steel body.
By almost every measure it was a better car
than the Model T, but about twice as expensive.
True to form, when asked about the price difference,
John Dodge proclaimed, “Just think of all
those Ford owners who will someday want an
automobile”.
That’s talking shit, 1900s style
But remember, the Dodge brothers still owned
10% of the Ford Motor Company… while they’re
building, and making money selling Dodges.
They were using the dividends from Ford to
run Dodge.
Henry Ford was directly paying for the operations
of a competing company.
And he really hated that.
What’s a Ford to do?
He just stopped paying them, even though the
Dodge bros were rightfully entitled to their
dividends.
Ford was like, “I don’t care.
I’m not Paying.”
So John and Horace sued for their missing
money, and Ford lost.
He ended up paying them 19 million in back
dividends, AND had to resume paying them quarterly.
“Well that sucks.”
Ford needed the Dodge Brothers to disappear…
from his company.
To coax them into selling their stake in Ford,
Henry leaked a story to the Los Angeles Examiner
that he was going to leave Ford and start
a new company, that would sell an even cheaper
car.
If this was true, Ford undercutting himself
would tank the Ford Motor Company value.
But nobody believed it, because it was stupid,
so the company DIDN’T lose value.
THEN the Dodge brothers got a mysterious phone
call from an anonymous party, offering to
take the stock off their hands for a good
price.
“Hey I don’t know you, but I’d be willing
to take that stock off your hands for a nice
price because I know, and you know, that it’s
going down.
It’s going way down.
That’s what the newspapers say.
Uh my name?
It’s uhh, Fenry..uh Kenry Dord uh Henry
gah”
Again, they still didn’t believe it, and
weren’t going to sell for anything less
than what they thought their 10% stake was
worth.
It wasn’t long however, before the Dodge
boys got tired of getting weird phone calls
late at night from “Schmenry Schmord,”
or Fenry Hord, so they just auctioned off
the stock themselves for what it was worth,
making 25 million dollars in the process.
And Ford was finally free from Dodge.
The Dodge Brothers had turned an initial investment
worth about 250 thousand dollars today, into
the equivalent of 760 million dollars.
Not bad for a couple of boys from Niles.
If you’re from Niles, that’s cool.
Without the Dodge Brothers, Henry Ford might
never have built the Model T. But without
the Model T, the Dodge brothers might not
have built the first Dodge.
And the craziest part of all is that the rivalry
that started between Ford- a conservative
teetotaller and Dodge- the Maverick outsiders
is still raging over a century later.

2019 Chevrolet Silverado - Review & Road Test

2019 Chevrolet Silverado - Review & Road Test

Kelley Blue Book:

When Chevrolet first revealed their
fourth-generation full-size Silverado
they dangled it from a helicopter onto a
massive stage.
Hey, our reveal is just as extravagant.
Okay so maybe we need more helicopter
budget, but we're on dirt and those used to be pine trees. So here it is the
fourth-generation Chevy Silverado.
Okay, I can't.
You know I'm not sure this looks that
different from the previous model. There
are four grille options, this is one of
them and it's bigger and beefier than
the previous generation, but other than
that it looks pretty much like a
Silverado. It does have a steeper
windshield and adds a roof spoiler for
better aerodynamics, but also rides an
inch higher than the third generation.
Thanks to its new bigness the second row
in the crew cab expanded. There are three
more inches back here of space for your
legs, but if you prefer to haul stuff
inside the 60/40 seats fold up. There are
a lot of cool storage spaces.
Check out that cubby. It's pretty neat.
This is bigger than some apartments I've
lived in.
Bed size also benefits from the
Silverado's expansion to the tune of
seven inches of width thanks to GM now
stamping the beds into pieces. It's also
stronger, which is a good thing for tough
payload.
Even the 12 standard tie-down loops are
stronger, and there's an optional power
tailgate, which we think is cool. The
Silverado comes in eight models. The Work Truck
comes with vinyl or cloth seats
and 17-inch wheels, remote keyless entry,
a USB port, seven-inch touchscreen and
Chevrolet's Infotainment 3 system with
Apple CarPlay and Android Audo. Optional
safety features include front and rear
parking assist, lane change alerts with
blind zone warnings, and rear
cross-traffic alerts. Those are some good
options for a base model truck. The
Custom trim adds 20-inch aluminum wheels
and LED tail lights. The Trail Boss adds
a 2-inch lift and the optional Z71
off-road package, which of course
requires four-wheel-drive and includes a
locking rear differential, skid plates,
and 18-inch Goodyear Duratrack tires
for off-roading. Step up to the LT trim
and there's the aforementioned
optional off-road equipment, an
eight-inch touchscreen comes standard as
well as a step up to the 8-speed
automatic transmission from the 6-speed
in lower trims. Hill descent control is
also a good option for when you're
coming down from all those mountains
you're driving over. The LT Trail Boss
includes the off-road capabilities of
the custom Trail Boss. Looking for a
sporty or Silverado the RST trim
includes body coloured exterior trim LED
lighting and 22s.
This high country is at the top of the
Silverado trim mountain, and it is swank
at the summit. Everything is covered in
leather and it's pretty comfy in here in
a truckie kind of way. Both front seats
are heated and ventilated and the
driver's side has 10-way power
adjustment including lumbar. Micah!
It's wireless charging capable and the
storage in the center console is so big
you could probably fit a whole bucket of
fried chicken in there. The Bose audio
system is awesome, you know what, if I
went camping I would probably just stay
in here. Six powertrain choices are
offered on the Silverado. Those larger
two are new options and include GM's new
dynamic fuel management system which is
able to use as few as two cylinders
cutting fuel to the rest for improved
fuel economy. The diesel option is new too. Some EPA numbers weren't available for
various power trains at the time of this
videos making, but here are those that
are.
The 4.3-liter V6 offers up 285
hp and 305 pound-feet of torque.
The 6.2-liter V8, which is in this High
Country crew cab I'm driving has 420
horses and 460 pound-feet of torque. With
a curb weight of 5,000 pounds, a payload
capacity of a little over 2,100 pounds,
and towing capabilities of 12,000 pounds
I'd say that power is going to come in
really handy. That's cute.
Incidentally that's less towing capacity
than a similarly powered Ford F-150 but
more than the RAM 1500 and the same as
the GMC Sierra, which makes sense because
they share power trains. But how does it
drive I hear you ask? You know what? I
have a really good way to find out. Why
thank you.
On the road the Silverado feels sturdy
and solid but surprisingly un-trucky. It
actually drives like a much smaller
vehicle. That might be thanks to Chevy
shaving off up to 450
pounds depending on which Silverado you
drive. The Silverado makes easy work of
curvy mountain roads and is maneuverable
enough to not get you in too much
trouble when parking in relatively tight
spots. The High Country's more refined
road manners are partly due to a 10-
speed automatic transmission with which
it is equipped. Shifts are quick and
smooth. It's tight ratios keep the engine
closer to peak power when at full
throttle. It also makes for easier
operation when towing. It's too bad this
transmission is only an option on the LT
trim and above with the diesel or 6.2-
liter engine. The cabin is quiet. I don't
hear the road and there's no notable
vibration or noise coming from the
engine when that DFM system is doing its
thing. You know if someone was looking
for a midsize crossover alternative with
more utility and towing capacity then
the Silverado drives nicely enough that
it should be considered an option.
Base price on the Work Truck will cost
you around $31,200 including
destination. Our tricked-out High Country,
which is at the top of the spending
spectrum is more like $67,000. This one
also has the Deluxe package that
includes safety features like forward
collision alert, lane keep assist with
lane departure warning, low speed forward
automatic braking. It also has a sunroof,
all-season tires, as well as the Tech
package that gives us the surround
vision camera and head-up display. Those
safety features come in handy especially
in a big truck like this. Sometimes
little things like Miatas or cyclists
are really hard to see. You know, I kind of
feel like the blind spot warning is
pretty much on all the time in this
thing.
The purchasing sweet spot though is
probably the LT trim that starts at just
under 40 large and comes standard with
the 5.3-liter engine and the 8-speed
transmission, but is optional with the
diesel engine mated to the 10-speed. It
also opens up more optional packages
that include tilting and telescoping
steering wheel and navigation. If you're
in the market for a full-size truck the
fourth-generation Silverado has a lot of
competition to check out including the
F-150, Sierra, Ram 1500 and even the
Nissan Titan and Toyota Tundra,
but the Silverado has a lot of great
qualities to consider. It's well equipped,
nicely powered and a good-looking truck
that rides nicely on the road. See no
splashy helicopter entrance necessary.

If "Real People" Commercials Were Real Life - Chevy Dependability Award

If "Real People" Commercials Were Real Life - Chevy Dependability Award

Zebra Corner:

Guys, we're walking on the freeway. Wow
Thank You Captain Obvious, what was your
first clue - Sergeant Self-Explanatory?
General Unmistakable, Colonel Clear-as-Day
Grab a seat, nice to meet you. My Gawd, you guys took your
middle-of-the-road advertising literally
to the middle of the road. Hey where's my
seat, oh very funny
ha ha, the kill Mahk gag. I get it yet. Yeah. Have you
ever had car trouble in a place like
this? Yeah, in a Chevy am i right guys? Did
you guys really block an entire freeway
to make this commercial? Chevy doing what
they do best,
causing traffic jams. I don't know what
to do, I feel helpless, just call AAA.
When I get into my car I wanna know
it's gonna get me from point A to point
B. So dependability ranks pretty high. No
Potsch, people wanna buy a car that doesn't
work</sarcasm>. When I put dependability and quality
together, I buy something I want it to
work properly.
Wait, so you don't buy something hoping
it breaks down immediately? Wow what a
novel concept, okay I'm gonna go walk in
traffic now. One car company has earned
JD power dependability awards for cars
trucks and SUVs. What's a dependability
award?
you wanna take a guess what company you
think that is? So I just looked it up and
the dependability awards are based on
the 2014 models -jerk off!- when they gave away
18 of them, so you guys got 3 out of 18,
you're basically batting like a .167, you're like
the Mario Mendoza of car companies. Not
only that, but you guys only ranked high in
the features and accessories category,
that's like the windshield wipers.
Yup, Chevy's the only brand to earn
dependability awards for cars trucks and
suv's, yeah but on the engine and
transmission part of it you guys only
got a three out of five, but hey I guess the
windshield wipers will work while you're
waiting on the tow truck. Do you?
You've been standing in traffic for 30
minutes you'd feel safe in a Fiat right
now. That's funny, the only way to make
getting in a Chevy look like a good idea
is to make the alternative standing
outside on the freeway. Late again! Hope I
don't get fucking fired!
thanks Chevy!
Hey Potsch watch out! Come on, if he dies,
I die

The Best Daily Driver - 1996 Chevy Impala SS vs 1986 Ford Thunderbird

The Best Daily Driver - 1996 Chevy Impala SS vs 1986 Ford Thunderbird

Scotty Kilmer:

it's time for car vs car contest, every
week two contestants will show off their
car to compete to win $100 Amazon gift
card for me, and the winner will be
chosen by you in a poll at the end of
this video, and here comes this week's
contestants,
hello youtube, today I have my 1986 Ford
Thunderbird the 3.8 liter v6 with 120
horsepower and 205 foot-pounds of torque,
this car is a real gentleman's cruiser
as it was called back in the 1980's, known
as the aerobird this 9th generation
Thunderbird revolutionized aerodynamics
as we see today in automobiles, this car
was bought brand-new by my great aunt
given to my grandmother who then gave it
to me, my grandmother taught me how to
drive this car about 16 years ago, this
is one of the most comfortable smoothest
riding cars I've ever driven, with under
40,000 miles,
this car has plenty of life to go
standard equipment in this base model
Thunderbird included, power windows, locks
mirrors, power driver seat, air
conditioning and rear window defroster
this car has a lot of sentimental value
and I hope one day to pass this bird
along to one of my children, thank you so
much for watching and please vote for my Thunderbird,
rev the engine, hey guys what's up this
is my 1996 Impala SS, there's very few
of these cars made, this specific car has
62,000 miles on it, go ahead and show you
guys the engine,
it's the five-seven v8 LT1 engine that
produces 330 lb feet of torque, this
vehicle is in really great shape, hasn't
been modified at all really to be honest,
the only thing that this car has is like
is an market stereo and the subwoofer
setup that's about it, everything in the
car is bone stock original nothing
modified, alright the interior of this
vehicle has leather seats all around,
aftermarket stereo like I mentioned
earlier, right there, alright oh and like I
said, I know you can't see it in the camera
but 62,000 miles on the dash,
let's go to the back real quick, leather
seats as well, it also has an
automatic transmission, this is subwoofer
setup right there,
spare tire in the back, and yeah it's
about it, bought this in 2014 with 42,000
miles and of course the only thing I've
added is the stereo and subwoofer and those badges
right there, that of course since we know
they add like ten horsepower to each
badge right, alright guys it's about it,
it's my 1996 Impala SS, thank you all
nice day, well that was this week's
videos and remember to have your car
shown here and to compete to win, email
me a picture of your car and I'll choose
the best ones to show in next week's
episode, so if you never want to miss
another one of my new car repair videos,
remember to ring that Bell!

FORD A 1929 V8 CHEVROLET song the KEYTHONES

EXTREME INEAMM:

Mechanic Constructs Drivable "Upside Down Truck"

Mechanic Constructs Drivable "Upside Down Truck"

Barcroft Cars:

Lady: Oh my gosh! What the heck!
Comm: No your screen hasn't been turned
upside down. This bizarre truck is built
to look like it's been flipped.
Comm: Mechanic Rick Sullivan spent six months building the unusual vehicle in his
breakdown garage in Clinton, Illinois.
Rick: People are amazed I mean it's, it's one
of those things that when you first see
it it's hard to recognize what it is, but
when you take the second look then they
pull me over and want to look at it closer.
Comm: Rick - who runs the garage with his wife Cathy - got the design idea when he
was called to rescue an overturned Ford
Ranger.
Rick: As we were approaching the scene
there was a pickup truck that was rolled
over on its top, in about ten inches of
snow, with all four wheels sticking up in
the air.
I said 'Hey, I'll bet you I can recreate
that'.
Comm: Inspired by the concept Rick set about putting his idea into reality.
Rick: We collected parts from a Ford F-150,
then on the drivetrain
it is a 91 Ford Ranger and we tore the
body off of it and transformed the F-150
upside down onto the 91 Ford Ranger.
The truck cost me $6,000 to build and it
took me six months to complete.
Comm: The truck is a big hit with Rick's nephews who love being taken out in the
attention-grabbing vehicle.
Rick: Hi Brody. Hi Brock. You wanna go for a ride? You wanna go Dairy Queen? All right!
Brody: The best thing
about it is, is cos it's upside down,
probably, and there's only one of it in
the world!
Our friends are very jealous that we get
a ride in this cool car!
Comm: And the upside down creation turns heads in town.
Man: Yeah!
Mr Greggs: I thought it was a car that had been tipped over,
that's what it's supposed to
represent I think.
Joe: What it looks like is somebody took the frame of a car and put it on there
but you know your first reaction is that
that something's wrong.
Marian: I would like to have one myself and simply because of the uniqueness in it.
Rick: The amount of pictures from cellphones? I would say is somewhere around a thousand pictures a day.
Comm: Luckily for Rick, his wife supports his
crazy building projects even if he keeps
her in the dark about what he's building.
Rick: When I brought home the upside down truck my wife had no idea.
Kathy: I was at work and he called and said you need to come outside. So I went outside it was amazing!
The reaction to and the people were
stopping in the street and it was, it was
a lot of fun. Yes I would say Rick is car
crazy and his mind is always thinking
about what the next project's going to be.
Comm: The truck may have turned his world
upside down, but Rick is already planning
the next exciting build.
Rick: I will keep the truck, I will never sell the truck. I do
have a car building project for the
future, so just keep watching the streets
because it's coming!

351 Ford vs. 350 Chevy - Which One Wins? - Engine Masters Preview Ep. 31

351 Ford vs. 350 Chevy - Which One Wins? - Engine Masters Preview Ep. 31

MotorTrend Channel:

- Man, some Ford and Chevy guys
are going to be irritated with this one
because it is a head-to-head shoot out.
The 351 Windsor Ford
versus the classic 350 small block Chevy.
I walked in here with an actual guess
on what was going to happen,
horsepower and torque-wise on this thing,
but just my deductive reasoning
of watching you fiddle
with it is throwing that out the door.
I have no guess.
- Really?
I've got a pretty good idea.
- I have a pretty good idea, but.
- I had to fiddle more.
- [Host] Yeah, you had to
fiddle more than I expected.
- Yeah, it took a little
more timing than I thought.
I think because of the
compression ratio being
relatively low.
- [Host] So low, yeah.
- It'd have to give it a little headstart.
- I mean, really, we've
kind of just dressed
up a turkey with this engine.
- Well, I know.
It's a bone stock rebuilder small block
with some really good cylinder heads on it
and then an average cam shaft.
(all laugh)
- Not a bad combination.
- Not a bad combination.
But my argument to that is if you're a guy
who has this engine in your car,
you might as well buy
the best cylinder head
because when you step
to a 3D3 or something,
this is going to be the right thing.
- Yeah, absolutely. That's
something that covers.
- [Host] (mumbles) 195 is good.
- Yeah, it covers a whole
bunch of area there.
I mean, it's good on so many things.
- [Host] Yeah.
(dramatic music)
(engine revving)
- So that's it.
I mean, 422.9 pound feet
of torque at 4300 RPM
and up here at the top,
425.6 horsepower at 5900.
What's your opinion?
I mean, I think for a 9.2
to one compression
motor it's not that bad.
- I think it would be
a 370 horsepower motor
without this head.
- Well yeah, (mumbles) head
is like the kill for sure.
- You know, pretty typical manifold
that we use over and over
again because it's so good,
but that cylinder head really
I think picks it up a bunch.
- Yeah.
- It pretty much made what
we were expecting so, yeah.
- Yeah.
- A little surprising.
- No, I think, I think it's pretty good.
- You guys pretty much nailed it.
- The question is, will the Ford beat it?
- We're about to see I think.
(dramatic music)
- (mumbles)
You know why I think the Ford
might be better than the Chevy?
- You painted it blue?
- How did you know?
(laughter)
It's just so much more regal
and dignified with this blue paint.
(dramatic music)
(engine revving)
- [Host] Wow, wow.
(engine revving)

The First 5 Silverado Parts You Should Buy For Your 2019 Chevy Silverado - The Haul

The First 5 Silverado Parts You Should Buy For Your 2019 Chevy Silverado - The Haul

AmericanTrucks Chevy & GMC:

Hey, guys.
It's Sara with americantrucks.com.
And in this episode of "THE HAUL" we're gonna
check out the first five mods that I picked
for the 2019 Chevy Silverado 1500.
There's been a lot of buzz about the 2019
Silverado and its new look that really stands
out in the crowd of pickups.
Now this new design looks and functions great
but good luck telling us not to modify our
truck to make it even better.
So without further ado, here are my pics for
the 2019 Silverado's first five mods.
Most trucks have a slight rake from the factory
which means the back of your truck is going
to sit a bit higher than the front to aid
in towing.
So those of you who don't like this look or
don't plan to tow on a daily basis, a leveling
kit is a great solution to the factory rake.
A leveling kit, as the name implies, brings
up the front of your truck so it sits level
with the rear.
Also if you're looking to comfortably add
larger tires to your truck, a leveling kit
will ensure you can run larger wheels and
tires by giving you that much needed suspension
lift in the front.
Now a lift kit will also remove the factory
rake and will allow you to run larger tires
but they can get much higher price wise because
they require additional parts and a much more
involved installation process.
A leveling kit is a great entry-level and
much more budget-friendly solution.
So with that in mind, I chose the Pro Comp
Suspension 2.25-Inch Leveling Kit because
it's a relatively simple and budget-friendly
way to prepare your truck for larger wheels
and tires.
This leveling kit allows for the addition
of up to 33-inch tires while still leaving
plenty of room for clearance when driving
and eliminates that factory rake.
This kit consists of two strut spacers for
each side that will increase the front of
your truck 2.25 inches, giving your truck
a more level appearance.
The spaces are constructed from billet aluminum
and the kit includes a top and bottom spacer
simplifying the installation process.
Because of the way this kit is designed with
two spacers instead of just one large top
spacer, install can be completed without dropping
the lower control arm.
Although this leveling kit is considerably
less complicated to install than a full lift
kit, you'll still need a professional alignment
afterwards.
And because this kit features direct bolt-on
installation, there's no permanent modification
to your truck if you choose to go back to
stock or upgrade to a lift down the road.
Lifts or leveling kits just beg for aftermarket
wheels and tires, so now that our truck is
level, let's move onto our next mod, wheels
and tires.
I chose this 20x9 Fuel Maverick Wheel in Gloss
Black wrapped in this Nitto Terra Grappler
G2 All-Terrain Tire.
It's a 275/60R20 which is equivalent to about
a 33-inch tire.
I went with an all-terrain tire because it
really is the best of both worlds.
You get the upgraded look and function over
an all-season like the ones that come factory.
These are going to give you more grip in off-road
situations but the all-terrain isn't going
to be as noisy as a mud terrain so you can
still take your truck on the highway.
If you're looking to get the best of both
worlds and you're planning to take your truck
off-roading on occasion or you just want to
add some performance to your daily driver,
these tires are an excellent choice.
This 20x9 wheel features one-piece aluminum
construction with a gloss black milled finish.
They have an offset of only plus one millimeter,
so they sit flush with your fenders similar
to stock but the 20-inch Fuel wheel is a nice
appearance upgrade over the factory 18s.
The wheel style really does come down to personal
preference and I like this particular set
because it delivers that upgraded look without
being too over the top.
This setup fills the wheel well nicely and
still leaves room for your suspension to travel
without hitting or rubbing.
A set of side steps is another popular first
mod for truck owners and for good reason.
Side steps make it easier to get into your
truck especially if it's lifted and allows
you to add a bit of side protection and some
of your own style in the process.
There are a ton of options out there for side
steps but I pick these Barricade HD Steps
because of their unique drop step design and
the black powder coat that goes nicely with
the look of our truck.
The Barricade HD steps feature a drop step
which brings down the stepping surface and
comes in handy especially if your truck is
lifted or leveled like ours.
These Barricade steps feature a tubular steel
construction with a textured black powder
coat finish and with the raised steel step
pads to provide easy access to your truck
in all weather.
These are a great option because they deliver
the aggressive look of a high-end drop step
while still leaving some money in your pocket
for other modifications.
Stock exhausts are almost always lacking soundwise.
With large restrictive mufflers from the factory,
you can barely hear the 5.3-liter engine roar.
One of the first modifications that most truck
owners do is swap out the stock exhaust for
something that is sure to wake it up and make
the drive more enjoyable.
I chose the Corsa sport system because of
its great fit, high-quality materials and
it delivers an aggressive sound.
I'm giving it a four out of five on the loudest
meter and here is a quick before and after
sound click.
This exhaust is designed for those who are
looking for not only an upgrade in sound overstock
but also an upgrade in appearance.
This Corsa exhaust features mandrel-bent 304-stainless
steel construction with twin 4-inch gloss
black tips.
The black tips are an upgrade when compared
to the factory slash exhaust that really is
lacking any tip at all and they compliment
the wheels that I've chosen pretty nicely.
Don't let its sleek appearance fool you, though.
This one packs a punch as one of the louder
options for the new Silverado.
We had a lot of fun with this exhaust.
Corsa really hit the nail on the head with
this system.
It produces that aggressively loud growl on
the outside and you still get some dude exhaust
sounds in the cabin with no drone when cruising.
You want to be able to hear your exhaust without
being overpowered by it while driving, and
this Corsa sports system delivers just that.
Many truck owners choose to add a tonneau
cover to their truck to protect the contents
of their bed from the elements and would-be
thieves but they also deliver the added bonus
of a more sleek appearance.
There are many different styles of tonneau
cover and they all have their pros and cons.
I think the tri-fold styles combines all of
the best features we would want out of a tonneau.
So let's get into why I chose this Undercover
Ultra Flex Tonneau for our first five mods.
Tri-fold tonneaus are one of the more popular
styles of tonneau because of their design.
This folding hardcover not only provides protection
from the elements but because it is a hardcover,
it provides more protection from would-be
thieves as well.
This tonneau is constructed from heavy-duty
aluminum and features a textured black finish
with a light that slides into the rail system
as an added bonus.
In addition, the tri-fold style folds all
the way up to the back of the bed in seconds
and locks in various positions so you can
still haul larger cargo.
This undercover tonneau does all this while
adding a sleek appearance with its flush design
that compliments your new Silverado.
So that's gonna do it for my first five mods.
I want to hear what you guys think or what
you would pick in the comments below.
Don't forget to like and subscribe.
And remember for all things Silverado, keep
it right here at americantrucks.com.
