Now on their latest generation, Chevrolet says it has
better fuel efficiency connectivity and safety features
more than ever before. Let’s find out what they are going on about
In this, the 2018 Malibu
The HID’s with Intellibeam are housed in a smaller frame
which compliments the smaller slats that are found
all over the front clip. Now, there is no large gap to speak of
to allow the air in but the four mentioned slats are equal to the task
Unique to the car, are the lights down here which are
your actually DRL’s and too is the emblem, the very proud emblem
I should say because it is textured and ribbed
Sorry but it does feel very cool
Even the keys emblem has texture
Nitpick if I may there is just one aspect on the front clip
that I don’t really appreciate
There’s a line that can be found on the hood that stretches
all the way down pass the emblem and to the chin
How much does it bug me? Well, not that much
Down on the side you’ll notice two lines that begin at the front doors
and slowly but surely taper as you get to the rear
Given the car a very streamlined, very fluidic look
Now the car does sit on 18-Inch mags fitted with 45 series tires
Now if you take that and combined it with this
beautiful fastback right here and this sharp departure angle
it does make for a very good looking stance
Now for some, the rear overhang might be much but
there is good reason for that
In fact, there is 447L of reasons, now it’s not the largest capacity
in this class but it’s certainly not the smallest
Space good enough that that can hold Professor Klump
However, getting him in that might be a problem through this
Renee Zellweger lips, kinda tight
Golf bags even two, not a problem. Medium sized suitcases
Not a problem however anything larger than that
You might need Steven Tyler lips and that’s a completely different story
Oh! Worth mentioning, the two exhaust, tucked away very nicely in chrome. Very nice touch
Now the toys back here include 2 cupholders on the center armrest
You got 2 air vents right here, 2 USB charging ports and a 12V socket
There are also speakers on either door and 2 more speakers behind the passengers
Now that’s 4 out of the 9 speakers in total inside the car
Now, the wheelbase of this car is actually 4-Inches longer
than the previous model which is checkout this legroom
It’s ridonculous. There’s enough space in here to fit
two large adults easily and even an average size adult in the center
Thanks to the low tunnel found in the ground
Safety? Yup! Apart from the standard airbags found upfront
There are also airbags found on the B pillars and either side of the rear seats
Not bad
The color scheme is the first thing that may not catch your attention
because it’s pretty subdue really
its got grays and browns, very comfortable, very laid back
Now your 4 gauges upfront and your trip computer
along with the air controls are, well they’re pretty adequate
as too are the buttons found on the steering wheel
different though in the fact that they’re all the same height
covered by a thin rubber film so that it is non-slip that’s pretty cool
You also got your dual pane sunroof and your 2 cupholders upfront
and loads of cubby spaces that you can put all your knick knacks
Including actually a very smart way to put your umbrella away
Now, not only are the front seats comfortable
because they can knock Vincent down in 5 minutes or less
but they can also accommodate much taller people
Now, you’d expect the driver to have power right
Well, the passenger seat has power too, in fact both of them can move
back and down to accommodate much taller people
and not only does the driver have lumbar support, so does the passenger
The lumbar support comes out so much that it can be like a basketball
at your back say put it at number four and it can retract all the way in
to the same number of wins that the Cavs have in the 2018 finals, which is zero
I’m gonna get flanked for that aren’t they? Meh, it’s the truth
The 8-Inch screen which also doubles as your reverse camera by the way
and is extremely clear I must add, also has the Mylink system which is a
breeze to use, in fact we find that it’s one of the easier head units that we’ve ever had to test
On any of the units that we’ve gotten, it’s really fun to use
and while you’re using it, you can also charge your phone
with the wireless system down here, it might be difficult for bigger phones
such as a Note or anything larger than that, but the smaller wireless units, not a problem
The one thing that I have to add about this unit is that
The whole thing is integrated into dash very very well
it doesn’t stick out like a sore thumb and that I gotta say
that I do love
Under the hood, there’s only one engine variant available in the Philippines
which is an inline 4 2L Turbocharged gasoline engine
which produces 250horses and 353 Nm of Torque
in an executive sedan, not bad
but even with all that power, in and out of the dreaded weekend traffic of Metro Manila
The Malibu was still able to do 10km/l. Frugal
Apart of the ease of which Chevy’s Mylink is just a joy to use
whether your an Apple user or an Android user and it also has 9 speakers
that’s around the car which are all Bose, louder than kids on a Saturday morning
it also has the following technologies
Its got adaptive cruise, its got lane keep assist, emergency braking
and semi autonomous parking to name a few
Oh! And get this, there are also 12 sensors all around the car
so that even Catherine Zeta Jones could not escape these guys
The level of comfort driving Malibu is well, is pretty good
The steering is light yet it’s not disconnected from the road
Yes, there are some cheap plastics that can be found all around the cabin
and the road noise does kinda creep up just a little bit
But it does not take away from the very comfortable leather seats
As a driver you have really very little to complain about
and even much less as a passenger
There are no paddle shifters to speak of, in fact it’s a bit confusing
when you run your fingers down the back of the steering wheel
where you’ll find audio controls
Now to manually change gears and provide you with a more sport feel
Pop the transmission into L which activates the plus minus selectors on the shifter
Fuel efficient? Check. Safety? Big check. Connectivity? Check
the Chevrolet Malibu LTZ is available at P2,131,888
Now it’s a bit pricey yes I understand, not the cheapest thing out there
But it’s also not the most executive sedan available in the Philippines
And you do have to consider that you do get a boatload of toys for the driver
Now, it does also gives us the consumers something that we do
very much appreciate, an option
And regardless of what I think about that line
Yeah, it’s a good looking option

Hi, I'm Mike Perkins from CarGurus, and this week I'm driving the all-new 2016
Chevy Malibu Premier. The Malibu actually has one of the stranger stories in car
history.
It started off as a top-tier trim for the rear-wheel-drive Chevelle,
became its own model in 1978, and then died a few years later in '83.
But it popped up again in 1997 as a front-wheel-drive sedan, and while it
still bears the name of that iconic American beachside city, since 2013 the
Malibu has actually been sold and marketed worldwide.
Now in its ninth generation, with more than 10 million Malibus sold over its
51-year history, for 2016 an all-new design incorporates a wheelbase stretch of
nearly 4 inches to combat the frustratingly small rear seats of the previous version.
Chevrolet also says that it's managed to drop nearly 300 pounds from its curb
weight, and it's added two sporty new engines to add a bit of economy in this
very, very competitive midsize segment.
But the changes aren't just physical. This year, the Malibu gets tech upgrades,
like 4G Wi-Fi and wireless cellphone charging, and a ton of safety features,
like a forward-collision avoidance system, rear cross-traffic alert,
and automatic parking. The 2016 Malibu will even brake automatically to avoid a
collision at low speeds, and it'll steer you back into your lane if you wander a
bit too far without indicating first.
It's a little unnerving when it fights your hand,
especially when lines in the road make it think that you're wandering out of
your lane when you're really not, but my guess is I'd be really glad it's there
the first time that I veered a little too far when checking over my shoulder
to prepare to pass.
What's really interesting is the inclusion of the new Teen Driver system.
That's currently exclusive to the 2016 Malibu.
Now what this does is take parental control systems like Ford's MyKey and it
takes it one step further.
Whereas those systems allow you to set limits to top speed and radio volume, and
disallows the ability to disengage any of the various safety systems,
Teen Driver actually sends parents an automatic status report after the car has been
taken out that lets them know
total distance driven, top speed reached, plus any events that necessitated use of
any of the safety systems.
So if at any time the stability control was engaged,
the forward-collision alerts came on, antilock or automatic braking was
used—Dad's gonna know.
And unlike some competitors' offerings, the Malibu comes standard with Apple
CarPlay and Android Auto.
Although, we've been unable to get it to work.
We've tried two different phones and three different cords, and it just
won't register—something that was easily accomplished with the new Jetta.
Also, while these systems come standard with the Premier trim, on the LS and LT
it's not even available on the base L trim. It's the same with the 4G Wi-Fi—
you can't get those on the L or the LS trims, only on the LT and the Premier.
More than that,
the sleek, responsive 8-inch touchscreen that you see here only comes standard on
the Premier trim and optional on the LT, and the lower-end 7-inch unit is
nowhere near as nice.
There's a similar delineation when it comes to engines.
Base L, LS, and 1LT trims get a 6-speed automatic and a turbocharged
1.5-liter engine,
good for 27 city and 37 highway miles per gallon,
although you'll have to live with engine start/stop in order to achieve those numbers.
It's not especially exciting, at just 160 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque,
but it's not wholly inadequate. Still, a lot of consumers will want to pay the extra
$3,600 to jump up to the 2-liter turbocharged engine that
comes on 2LT trims and above. With that, you'll get an impressive 250 horsepower
and 260 pound-feet of torque. And with a very capable 8-speed transmission,
you'll also enjoy 22 city miles per gallon and 33 highway.
Not bad.
Inside, things are really nice in this new Malibu, with heated power seats
and a heated steering wheel.
The extra space is noticeable as well, especially in the back seat.
Although, it should be noted that trunk capacity has dropped about half a cubic
foot down to 15.8. Materials are
completely adequate for this price point,
especially considering that this Premier trim with all the fancy options is still
just $34,285.
That's a lot of car for the money, and suddenly this feels like a wholly viable
competitor for options like the Ford Fusion, the Mazda6, and the Honda Accord.
Although, it should be noted that the Accord is coming fresh to the table as
well this year, so we're going to have to wait and see just how high that bar has
been raised. A lot of people have always considered the Malibu to be a bit of an
also-ran, just a vehicle designed to go straight to the rental fleet. To be
honest, it's never had the style or the athleticism of the Mazda6 or even the
Fusion, but it's getting there now. At least in the looks department.
You can't say that this generation is lacking in presence or it's boring.
The real question is whether all these changes are enough to keep pace with the
competition.

now hybrid retains the overall look of

pretty stylish midsize sedan
but does have some exterior differences
like badges on the front fenders
and also if on the trunk lid has also
stickers on the front and rear windows
so
that when people see this driving this
car they know you're driving a hybrid
when the changes the mile high regards
for 2009 are these new wheels and tires
these are something its aluminum rims in
there for the with lower rolling
resistance tyres
in the help to increase the sit-ins fuel
economy for 2009 2:26 miles per gallon
in the city
in 34 on the highway now that's up two
miles per gallon
in both the city and highway figures the
mail Hybrid uses the GM hybrid system
which features an electric motor

that's paired with a 2.4 liter

now's not a technologically advanced to
the systems in the Camry Hybrid or Ford

when you come to a stop but as soon as
you
take your foot off the brake pedal its
brings back to life and that's part of
the reason why
it doesn't get exceptional city fuel
economy like those other hybrids do

family sedan you can see it has this
interesting
scallop dashboard design which is
something you don't see in
midsize cars every day their coupled
cues that set the hybrid apart from the
regular mail but on the inside the
first one is this hybrid specific mode
for the air conditioning system missus
but here you can press to choose it
and I basically has a reduced power mode
for the air conditioning system
and it helps keep the engine of longer
now Hybrid gets a unique instrument
panel
that features a couple changes there's
an auto stop
section on attack Amador now to show
when the cars running but the engine is
off there's also a charge
Asus gauge for the hybrid system in a
new
ego indicator that shows when the cars
achieving better than its fuel economy
estimates
midsize sedans even hybrid ones have to
be able to handle passenger hungry in
the mouth hybrid passes the test
a back seat doesn't feel quite as large
as the Camry hybrids
but it still acceptably big and leg room
is enhanced thanks to his cut-outs
in the back to the front seats which
helped give your legs a little more room
the regular mail was trunk measures 15
.1 cubic feet in the hybrids is a little
smaller
because I've a hybrid battery pack
located in the forward part in the trial
the car still has a 60/40 split-folding
back seat though the space between the
cabin
in the trunk that's exposed when you for
the back seat is a little smaller
because the battery pack but at least
Chevrolet retains this feature
as Ford elites and in the Fusion Hybrid
the Ford Fusion Hybrid costs about 33
percent more than a base fusion forgets
about forty-four percent better fuel
economy
now the hybrid by comparison costs about
11 percent more but that's about sixteen
percent better
in terms of gas mileage so at the mouth
a hybrid its price premium is minimal
but so are its mileage gains
for more car-related new Skoda cars dot

My first car was a 1978 Chevy Malibu Classic;
a rear-drive, V8 sedan with an 8-track tape
player and a headliner held up by push pins.
But in car years, that was 5 generations ago.
So this week I've got the all-new 2016 Malibu;
a midsize looking to make inroads with the
segment leaders.
Apparently, size does matter when it comes
to family cars. GM learned that lesson the
hard way with the previous Malibu where cramped
rear seats kept customers away. Obviously,
that shortcoming has been addressed here with
a longer wheelbase that affords an extra inch
+ of legroom while the big trunk remains virtually
unchanged. Other notable upgrades include
a significant drop in weight, a new 8-speed
automatic transmission contributing to a 2mpg
bump in fuel economy and a bevy of new safety
tech and top-notch connectivity.
By-in-large, my week with this range-topping
Malibu has not lived up to the hype GM trumpeted
when it was revealed at last year’s NY Auto
Show. My initial impression of this new front
grille has not changed since then. To me,
it sullies an otherwise attractive design
borrowed heavily from the larger Impala. And
in 2016, no car that wears a Premier badge
should ever use halogen headlamps. Optioned
up to $34,285, this Malibu runs standard with
the high-output 2.0-liter turbo-4 as does
the 2LT trim just below it. The 3 lesser trims
- the L, LS and 1LT - are powered by the new
1.5-liter turbo and these are the Malibu models
to shop if 30mpg is of importance. Those who
want V6-level performance will turn here to
this 250-horsepower motor instead which is
impressively refined and robust with a quick
acting 258 pound-feet of torque. Regular gas
is OK but premium is recommended, rated at
26mpg in combined driving which is exactly
where I’ve finished.
The Malibu's interior is a mix of hits and
misses. Per usual GM, the technology is fantastic
with Chevy MyLink full of all kinds of useful,
easy to use features including OnStar, Apple
CarPlay and teen driver settings. But the
touch points have a less than credible rental
car feel, the colors are drab and the rear
seat bottoms are short.
Here’s where the Malibu shines. They’re
crushing the technology angle. The new Teen
Driver feature is the first in the industry
with a built-in component that lets parents
view on a display how their teenager drove
the vehicle. To the delight of occupants,
there are 2 USB ports in the front and 2 more
in the rear plus a standard outlet. MyLink,
OnStar and CarPlay are a beautiful trifecta
of ultra-helpful, intuitive connectivity features,
and the driver information display brings
much of that intelligence to the gauge cluster
with easy configuration. And who doesn’t
love the 4G Wi-Fi hotspot? Combined with welcome
touches such as remote start, auto highbeams,
adaptive cruise control with automatic braking
and the full pantry of camera systems such
as pedestrian alert with automatic last-second
braking, forward collision alert with automatic
braking, lane keep assist and a parallel and
perpendicular parking assistant the Malibu
will wow you with its up-to-date, forward
thinking IT.
The 2.0 liter turbo won't have you longing
for the old V6...its fittingly strong and
reactive whenever you need more power. The
8-speed is mostly smooth though going from
reverse to drive often causes some abruptness.
And there's a lot of Buick in its ride...quiet
and smooth. But the handling is clumsy even
for this segment and at the end of the day
it's hard to imagine going Malibu over Accord.
And that’s the crux of the Malibu’s lot
in life; it’s improved in some key areas
and goes all-in on safety tech yet lacks the
premium polish and honed drivability to knockout
the segment’s heavy hitters. Also offered
as a 46mpg full hybrid, the 2016 Malibu starts
at $22,500.

of the 2017 Chevrolet Malibu.
The Malibu is Chevrolet's
mid-size sedan.
Recently redesigned, the
base engine is a 1.5-liter
turbocharged four-cylinder.
We're not so high on that one.
But if you step up to
the Premier trim level,
get the 2-liter turbo,
it's got a lot of power.
It's got a new nine-speed
automatic for 2017.
We're a fan of that one.
Overall, the Malibu
is pretty rewarding
to drive by segment standards.
Can handle itself pretty
well around turns.
Comfortable over bumps.
Significant step up
from Malibu's past.
There's also a hybrid
version of the Malibu.
Obviously, better fuel
economy, but performance
does suffer a bit.

Step inside the
Malibu and you'll
find a reasonably
capacious back seat.
Of course, that's
expected for this segment.
But you'll have
no trouble fitting
a couple of six-footers
side by side,
assuming the people in front
are accommodating about it.
Interior's quality has certainly
improved for this generation.
Previously, the Malibu
was toward the bottom
of the pack in that regard.
Now we consider it competitive.
The eight-inch touchscreen
in the center of the dash
is also a high point.
It's responsive.
It's nice to look at.
One of the better ones
you'll find in this class.
It's not all peaches and
cream with the 2017 Malibu.
Do have some sparse
equipment on base L trim.
Not huge fans of the
outward visibility.
But that's the price
you pay for the styling,
which kind of reminds us of
an Audi A7 if you squint.
