GM Truck Shootout -- 2019 GMC Sierra Denali vs. 2019 Chevy Silverado High Country: Comparison

GM Truck Shootout -- 2019 GMC Sierra Denali vs. 2019 Chevy Silverado High Country: Comparison

Car Confections:

While everyone knows that the f-150 is the best-selling pickup in the U.S.
What a lot of people don't realize is that when you combine the sales of the Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra
General Motors sells nearly as many trucks as the blue oval but say you're one of the approximately
800,000 people that know for sure you want a new GM truck
You still have to choose between two foundationally similar, but distinctly different products
for this comparison
We hope to answer that question by directly comparing a top-of-the-line Silverado high country to the equivalent Sierra Denali
So let's go ahead and get to it
Like always the first thing on the agenda is establishing the pricing and option levels of the two models
Starting off with the brand-new Silverado. Like I said, this is the highest trim the high country
It starts off at a little over fifty six thousand dollars
But from there, we have the high country deluxe package optional 6.2 liter v8
Technology package power assist stops and a couple other things
after adding in the destination charge of fifteen hundred dollars
You have the most expensive Silverado 1500 they've ever made at sixty six thousand four hundred twenty-five dollars
as
You would expect the Sierra Denali has a richer starting price of fifty eight thousand dollars due to its classier brand image
But after options are added in the two are quite similar
Like the Silverado we have every possible option including the weighty
$4,800 Denali ultimate package
Plus the 6.2 liter v8 and destination charge bringing the total to sixty-seven thousand three hundred forty dollars
That places the price difference at under a thousand bucks
Which definitely means pricing is not going to be the deciding factor when choosing between these two
Anyways now let's go ahead and get into the comparison
Normally this is where we get into a real detailed analysis of the engine transmission and fuel economy differences
But in this case, they are exactly the same
Like I mentioned they both have the optional 6.2 liter v8 making 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque
that top engine is paired with the top transmission a 10 speed automatic jointly developed with Ford and
They both have standard four-wheel drive as far as the fuel economy
They both come in at 17 combined though. For some reason the Silverado does have a 1 mpg advantage in the city
Now let's talk about the driving as you would expect they are pretty much the same besides for one important difference
The Sierra Denali comes standard with adaptive ride control while the Silverado does not offer this system at all
Therefore even though the Silverado does ride quite nicely you're going to get that extra level of
Refinement from the GMC since it can make adjustments for motion control and right isolation
Well, that's it for the powertrain so now let's check out the exterior designs and specs
Now heading on to the outside, I do realize that looks are subjective so I'm not going to do points for this part
of course on the Chevy you've got the signature split grille design with high country branding and bronze accents and
The GMC gives you the signature bold chrome mesh grille
Both feature high intensity LED headlights and LED fog lights, but with very different designs
At first glance you'd think that the sides are exactly the same but upon further
Evaluation there are some important differences
The GMC has more chrome trim around the windows and more importantly the wheel wells are plastic trim squares
compared to the Silverados newfound circular wheel arches
in
The back they are pretty much the same besides for differences in the execution of the tail light and tailgate designs
Now you're probably noticing what looks to be a tailgate inside of a tailgate for the GMC
Which looks a little strange from the outside but adds a lot of functionality
This is known as the multi Pro tailgate and it can be put into six different modes
Including a bench one for tailgating and access step a bed extender or even as a little desk
The Chevy's tailgate doesn't have those functionalities
But instead it has the ability to both power open and close something to Sierra can't do
Otherwise both beds are made from high-strength steel with plenty of tie downs have LED lighting and very easy accessibility
Thanks to both bumper steps and running boards that slide backwards for side access
But beyond that stuff we're mostly looking at very similar features with subtle variations
for example
Both trucks have really nice-looking
22 inch alloy wheels as well as mirrors with heating power folding LED lighting and auto dimming
- the Denalis chrome mirror caps
For safety systems both trucks have the same equipment when fully loaded
Including blind spot monitoring forward emergency braking with pedestrian detection
Lane departure alert and auto high beam headlights
Strangely though. Neither have adaptive cruise control at this time
And lastly to wrap up the exterior
Both have 24 gallon fuel tanks and towing capacities of 93 hundred pounds when you opt for these fully equipped models
Well that pretty much sums up the practical exterior features, but now let's get inside and see which truck offers more luxury for the owner
Before getting in both trucks have the same key with remote start
Now once we open the doors it's very obvious that they are related to each other
There are far less changes to the cabin than on the outside. And unless you get the high country's brown interior option
They are almost indistinguishable visually
However, there are some differences abound like the leather on the heated and ventilated eight-way power seats
The high country gets the same leather as the lower trips
While the Denali comes with an exclusive wide grain leather that looks and feels a bit better
Now as far as the rest of the materials they are 90% similar but the Sierra does the details better
The Silverado uses a special bronze colored plastic trim for the high country and a faux wood trim
While the Sierra uses an authentic aluminum around the screen and real open pore ash wood
this again just gives it a little bit of a higher-end feel as
Far as the displays that the main one is eight inches and there is a second 7 inch display in the gauge clusters
Obviously there is some variation and the design but the functionality is all the same and that also applies to the head-up displays as well
Coming back to the steering wheels, they're actually pretty different from each other
The gmc's is box here with more of that real aluminum and a nicer leather
in that general area both have column shifters that pull up a
360-degree camera when you put them in Reverse
these are some of the best camera systems in the industry since they have so many different views and such high resolution, but
Here on out there is nothing to distinguish these two trucks
They both have the same center console entirely including all the storage climate buttons and plugs
They both also have the Bose 7 speaker premium audio system. Let's go ahead
This is overall an excellent sounding system moving up to your screens the systems have different names but are exactly the same
They have the latest graphics, very ergonomic layouts navigation and Android auto and apple carplay
The last things to look at up front are the rear camera mirrors and moonroof
It is worth noting that a panoramic roof is not offered on either truck
Finally to end this comparison the back seats are completely identical
With heated seats charging USB ports and secret storage areas
so with that we wrap up this in-depth comparison as
You can see these two trucks are still extremely similar this
Generation and it really just comes down to personal preference about what type of image you want to convey
The GMC carries the more luxurious aura and the Chevy has the more hard-working image, even though they have the same capabilities
Anyways, we hope this quick comparison between two of the nicest trucks on the industry will make your decision easier

2019 Chevrolet Silverado - Review & Road Test

2019 Chevrolet Silverado - Review & Road Test

Kelley Blue Book:

When Chevrolet first revealed their
fourth-generation full-size Silverado
they dangled it from a helicopter onto a
massive stage.
Hey, our reveal is just as extravagant.
Okay so maybe we need more helicopter
budget, but we're on dirt and those used to be pine trees. So here it is the
fourth-generation Chevy Silverado.
Okay, I can't.
You know I'm not sure this looks that
different from the previous model. There
are four grille options, this is one of
them and it's bigger and beefier than
the previous generation, but other than
that it looks pretty much like a
Silverado. It does have a steeper
windshield and adds a roof spoiler for
better aerodynamics, but also rides an
inch higher than the third generation.
Thanks to its new bigness the second row
in the crew cab expanded. There are three
more inches back here of space for your
legs, but if you prefer to haul stuff
inside the 60/40 seats fold up. There are
a lot of cool storage spaces.
Check out that cubby. It's pretty neat.
This is bigger than some apartments I've
lived in.
Bed size also benefits from the
Silverado's expansion to the tune of
seven inches of width thanks to GM now
stamping the beds into pieces. It's also
stronger, which is a good thing for tough
payload.
Even the 12 standard tie-down loops are
stronger, and there's an optional power
tailgate, which we think is cool. The
Silverado comes in eight models. The Work Truck
comes with vinyl or cloth seats
and 17-inch wheels, remote keyless entry,
a USB port, seven-inch touchscreen and
Chevrolet's Infotainment 3 system with
Apple CarPlay and Android Audo. Optional
safety features include front and rear
parking assist, lane change alerts with
blind zone warnings, and rear
cross-traffic alerts. Those are some good
options for a base model truck. The
Custom trim adds 20-inch aluminum wheels
and LED tail lights. The Trail Boss adds
a 2-inch lift and the optional Z71
off-road package, which of course
requires four-wheel-drive and includes a
locking rear differential, skid plates,
and 18-inch Goodyear Duratrack tires
for off-roading. Step up to the LT trim
and there's the aforementioned
optional off-road equipment, an
eight-inch touchscreen comes standard as
well as a step up to the 8-speed
automatic transmission from the 6-speed
in lower trims. Hill descent control is
also a good option for when you're
coming down from all those mountains
you're driving over. The LT Trail Boss
includes the off-road capabilities of
the custom Trail Boss. Looking for a
sporty or Silverado the RST trim
includes body coloured exterior trim LED
lighting and 22s.
This high country is at the top of the
Silverado trim mountain, and it is swank
at the summit. Everything is covered in
leather and it's pretty comfy in here in
a truckie kind of way. Both front seats
are heated and ventilated and the
driver's side has 10-way power
adjustment including lumbar. Micah!
It's wireless charging capable and the
storage in the center console is so big
you could probably fit a whole bucket of
fried chicken in there. The Bose audio
system is awesome, you know what, if I
went camping I would probably just stay
in here. Six powertrain choices are
offered on the Silverado. Those larger
two are new options and include GM's new
dynamic fuel management system which is
able to use as few as two cylinders
cutting fuel to the rest for improved
fuel economy. The diesel option is new too. Some EPA numbers weren't available for
various power trains at the time of this
videos making, but here are those that
are.
The 4.3-liter V6 offers up 285
hp and 305 pound-feet of torque.
The 6.2-liter V8, which is in this High
Country crew cab I'm driving has 420
horses and 460 pound-feet of torque. With
a curb weight of 5,000 pounds, a payload
capacity of a little over 2,100 pounds,
and towing capabilities of 12,000 pounds
I'd say that power is going to come in
really handy. That's cute.
Incidentally that's less towing capacity
than a similarly powered Ford F-150 but
more than the RAM 1500 and the same as
the GMC Sierra, which makes sense because
they share power trains. But how does it
drive I hear you ask? You know what? I
have a really good way to find out. Why
thank you.
On the road the Silverado feels sturdy
and solid but surprisingly un-trucky. It
actually drives like a much smaller
vehicle. That might be thanks to Chevy
shaving off up to 450
pounds depending on which Silverado you
drive. The Silverado makes easy work of
curvy mountain roads and is maneuverable
enough to not get you in too much
trouble when parking in relatively tight
spots. The High Country's more refined
road manners are partly due to a 10-
speed automatic transmission with which
it is equipped. Shifts are quick and
smooth. It's tight ratios keep the engine
closer to peak power when at full
throttle. It also makes for easier
operation when towing. It's too bad this
transmission is only an option on the LT
trim and above with the diesel or 6.2-
liter engine. The cabin is quiet. I don't
hear the road and there's no notable
vibration or noise coming from the
engine when that DFM system is doing its
thing. You know if someone was looking
for a midsize crossover alternative with
more utility and towing capacity then
the Silverado drives nicely enough that
it should be considered an option.
Base price on the Work Truck will cost
you around $31,200 including
destination. Our tricked-out High Country,
which is at the top of the spending
spectrum is more like $67,000. This one
also has the Deluxe package that
includes safety features like forward
collision alert, lane keep assist with
lane departure warning, low speed forward
automatic braking. It also has a sunroof,
all-season tires, as well as the Tech
package that gives us the surround
vision camera and head-up display. Those
safety features come in handy especially
in a big truck like this. Sometimes
little things like Miatas or cyclists
are really hard to see. You know, I kind of
feel like the blind spot warning is
pretty much on all the time in this
thing.
The purchasing sweet spot though is
probably the LT trim that starts at just
under 40 large and comes standard with
the 5.3-liter engine and the 8-speed
transmission, but is optional with the
diesel engine mated to the 10-speed. It
also opens up more optional packages
that include tilting and telescoping
steering wheel and navigation. If you're
in the market for a full-size truck the
fourth-generation Silverado has a lot of
competition to check out including the
F-150, Sierra, Ram 1500 and even the
Nissan Titan and Toyota Tundra,
but the Silverado has a lot of great
qualities to consider. It's well equipped,
nicely powered and a good-looking truck
that rides nicely on the road. See no
splashy helicopter entrance necessary.

Why GM Failed In India

Why GM Failed In India

CNBC:

Over the last 20 years, the
Indian automotive market has grown from
about 500,000 new passenger cars,
hatchbacks, sedans and utilities to
about 3.5
million in 2018.
The market has an expected compound annual
growth rate of about 5 to
6 percent over the next 10 years.
But, some automakers have struggled
to make it work.
Among them is General
Motors, the largest U.S.
car company. GM stopped selling cars in
India in 2017 after years of
declining market share.
It's a striking move for GM, which
in recent years has also closed
shop in other regions around the
world, as leadership focuses on
maximizing profits and making investments
in new technologies such as
electric power trains
and mobility services.
With a population of more than
1 billion people, India is becoming
one of the world's
largest automotive markets.
The country is poised to surpass
Japan as the world's third biggest
new car market in 2021.
So while there is ample
opportunity for automakers, the Indian
landscape has been particularly difficult
to navigate, especially for
American firms. GM watched its share
of the Indian market erode
steadily over several years, bottoming out
at about one percent in
2016 just before the
automaker pulled out.
So if the Indian market is
growing, why did GM struggle, especially
when GM has been
so successful in China?
To be fair, quite a few automakers
tend to have difficulty in the
Indian market. First of all, India
is a massive country with a
diverse population of roughly 1.3
billion people.
India, I think, we are
definitely a complex market.
The income levels
are quite heterogeneous.
We are divided, actually into
urban India and rural India.
The consumer requirements are actually
different even the needs are
different in both these markets.
There are a few criteria a
mass market automaker ought to meet.
They are fuel efficiency, resale
value, proximity of service stations
and the affordability of parts
and low servicing costs.
I think first thing is price.
We are a country with a
very low per capita income.
Indians are very price sensitive.
But price is not the only factor.
So now the customer also needs
some more value, for example, with
styling elements. And then, I think,
the consumer also wants a global
brand. They want a
brand which is aspirational.
The consumer wants an overall combination of
all P's, you know it may
be product, it may be
price, it may be positioning.
Which makes the things
quite complicated for OEMs.
These might seem pretty attainable,
but many automakers have
struggled to meet these
in the country.
There are a couple of companies who
have managed to crack that code
and there are several more with shares
of the market ranging in size
from small to smaller.
By far, the most successful automaker
in India is the Japanese firm
Suzuki, which alone owns
half the Indian market.
Suzuki has enjoyed something of
a first mover advantage.
It was the first major automaker to
enter India, and it did so
through a joint venture
with Indian manufacturer Maruti.
Suzuki also specializes in highly
fuel efficient vehicles, which are
extremely important in
the Indian market.
After Suzuki, Korean maker Hyundai is
the second largest with 16
percent of the Indian market.
After that, Indian, Japanese and Korean
makers such as Honda, Tata,
Kia and Mahindra all more or less
have equal degrees of market share.
Kia in particular, is a relatively
late coming brand that has been
able to succeed in India.
I think an excellent example is
Kia Motors which recently entered, it
was a new brand and
they gave a great proposition.
They were in an SUV segment and
I think suddenly right from the month
one, we saw a great success
for this OEM, in India.
Then the remaining 10 percent of the
market is made up of others such
as Ford, Renault, BMW and Nissan.
Early on, GM entered the India market
with its Opel brand, a mass
market brand GM had
owned in Europe.
While Opel cars tended to be
affordable, they failed to resonate with
Indian buyers.
I think later on they realized that's
not a brand which is really
going to work well in India because
that was not a value proposition
which they were offering
to their customers.
But then GM introduced its Chevrolet
brand to the country, which
brought it more success.
It was a great success.
They launched a few great
products like Chevrolet Cruze Chevrolet
Beat. They had that start which
they were really looking forward.
Despite these efforts, the automaker had
trouble taking share in the
Indian market. It was the first
automaker to introduce a diesel fuel
powered car of its size.
At the time, the Chevrolet beat
was the smallest diesel powered car
customers could buy in India.
It was a strong proposition and
benefited from a government subsidy
on diesel engines.
But in the end, the
diesel Beat had few takers.
The company may also have made a
misstep by trying to introduce a
low-cost vehicle GM manufactured with
its Chinese partner SAIC called
the Chevrolet Sail.
Their plan got derailed with the
introduction of Sail because I think
they underestimated the consumer aspiration
and then, I think, the
decline started. GM also fell victim
to a kind of self-reinforcing
cycle. One challenge it struggled with
was the lack of an adequate
dealer and servicing network.
More premium brands such as Mercedes
and BMW often attract customers
with the means to travel
further for service and sales.
But, mass market brands such as
GM's Chevrolet are targeting middle
class buyers who value convenience.
Dealerships in India often sell a
single brand so GM's low sales
volumes meant a single dealer might sell
only a handful of cars in a
month and risk taking losses on
the costs of running the business.
In the end, such low market share
made it difficult for GM to justify
maintaining a presence
in the country.
The automaker officially stopped selling
cars in India on December
31, 2017.
GM told CNBC it explored many
options for its India business, but
ultimately withdrew after it
determined the increased investment
originally planned for the country would
not deliver the returns of
other global opportunities.
It continues to operate services
for existing Chevrolet customers in
the country. In September, the
automaker entered a long-term
partnership with Tata Consultancy Services,
which will do engineering
design for GM vehicles meant
for markets around the world.
The move out of India was part
of a larger pullback GM has been
making around the world as
it restructures its business.
We're seeing other automakers follow
suit as they're pruning.
They're pruning the dead branches and
focusing on where they can be
strong. For GM, this is a huge shift
because GM of old used to be all
things to everyone everywhere.
And, it has now decided that
is not the proper strategy.
The automaker told CNBC if it doesn't
see a clear path to leadership
and long term sustained profits in
a particular market, it will look
at opportunities to focus its resources
on areas that will lead to
the greatest results. It added that this
is the same approach it has
taken elsewhere.
The automaker also sold its
European operations to French carmaker
PSA in 2017.
At the time it pulled out of India
GM had two factories there, one in
the Gujarati city of Halol
and another in Talegaon.
The Halol plant was acquired by
MG Motor, the once famed British
brand now owned by Chinese
automaker SAIC Motor Corporation.
GM has a joint venture with
SAIC to produce cars in China.
Reports surfaced in November 2019 that
SAIC is also in talks to
acquire GM's Talegaon plant, along
with fellow Chinese automaker
Great Wall. GM told CNBC it
is exploring strategic options for the
plant. The move out of India was
a retreat for GM and for American
auto industry. Ford is starting
to do the same.
It's trimming some
of its offerings.
Global economy and global auto
market is slowing some.
Certainly true here in the
US, it's true in China.
There's just not enough money to
go around to every single market,
too every single vehicle line.
Look at Daimler and BMW,
they've announced major employee cuts.
But in some ways it might
have been a shrewd move.
The other thing that is happening
in the market that has never
happened before is we are on the
verge of massive disruption of the
industry. You know, we're going to
have a future of electric
vehicles, autonomous vehicles and new
ways to acquire personal
transportation and now
mobility service.
There's all kinds of things.
Nobody knows when that's going to happen
or how it's going to happen,
but it's requiring a
lot of investment.
Companies like GM just can't keep putting
a ton of money into the
future as well as a ton
of money in today's stuff.
While analysts do expect the
Indian automotive market to continue
growing in the foreseeable future, it
did hit a slump in 2019.
Maruti Suzuki sales were growing
until February 2019, but have
slipped every month, year
over year, until October.
Suzuki said in November that the slowing
Indian market was one of the
factors behind the company's falling overall
sales and net income in
its second fiscal quarter.
So I think right now the
market is going through turmoil.
Our economy is struggling and if
we only talk about the automotive
market we are talking about a decline
of minus 14 percent in 2019
calendar year light vehicles.
So obviously this year is the
kind of degrowth happening, which has
not happened in last
two decades, in India.
2020, we are just talking about a
kind of a flat growth but then
going forward, in 2021, '22, '23,
the assumption that our economy
should be back, you know, the
GDP growth rate will start growing
above seven percent. Indian
automotive analysts note the country's
auto industry has to contend
with the relatively recent rise of
mobility services such as ride
hailing. The potential of these
competing technologies is still
unknown, but could affect how
interested in car ownership Indians
remain in the future.
In the end, GM did make some of
the right choices when trying to go
into India. GM was right in
terms of localizing their products
typically for the Indian market, making
it, in line with the taxation
because they were able to save tax.
But, at the end of their day, were
really not able to match with what
the competitors were offering.
If the Indian economy picks back up,
GM may find itself trying to
profitably re-enter the country.
GM's rival Ford, which has been in
India since 1995, said in October
2019 it will create a new
joint venture with Indian manufacturer
Mahindra, which Ford said will help
it develop new products faster
and drive profitable growth.

2020 GMC Sierra 1500 Duramax Diesel Review - Worth the Wait?

2020 GMC Sierra 1500 Duramax Diesel Review - Worth the Wait?

Edmunds:

[MUSIC PLAYING]

SPEAKER: What's that sound?
Oh, just six
cylinders and a drum
line turning diesel to torque.
That's right, this is the
2020 GMC Sierra 1500 Duramax.
Man, I feel so tough right now.
Do I look tough?
No?
OK, whatever-- let's
talk about this truck
and why you might want or not
want a diesel in your half ton.
That's not a euphemism.
If you're shopping for a diesel
truck or any kind of truck,
visit us at edmunds.com.
And make sure you follow
us on Facebook, Instagram,
and Twitter.

1500 is what I'm interested
in, because I don't know.
I would call it the
most consumer truck.
This is the truck you might
have as a daily driver,
to do some towing,
some adventuring.
But now it is available
with a diesel engine.
Every 2500 and 3500
heavy-duty pickup truck
comes with a diesel option.
And they sell very well,
despite being more expensive
than the gas engines.
The same hasn't been true for
the 1500 series half ton trucks
until Ram reintroduced
a diesel in 2014.
Before that, it was
gas engine only.
Why does that matter?
Well, diesel engines
are cool, because they
make a lot of torque.
That's the muscle
part of the engine,
and it helps for easier towing.
They also offer
better range and fuel
economy than a gasoline engine
carrying the same weight.
Diesels are especially good
at providing respectable fuel
economy and range
while towing, which
makes them very popular with
people who have horses or boats
or race cars or
big camper trailers
or pretty much anything
that you might need to carry
from one place to another.
The 3-Liter Straight-6
Duramax in the 1500
is so quiet and chilled out,
that you would never even
know it was a diesel if
you didn't see the badge.
I haven't been in
any diesel vehicles
that I would describe
as a rocket ship,
but it is plenty quick.

We're moving.
Because the 3-Liter Duramax is
a smaller engine than what's
available in the
heavy-duty trucks,
I like to call it the Baby Max.
But it makes 277 horsepower
and 460-pound feet of torque,
which is a very grownup number.
The 3-Liter is backed
by a 10-speed automatic
transmission, and
it's really nice.
It shifts smoothly on
hills and while towing.
And as we are unladen right now,
I don't even notice the shifts.
It's effortless.
It doesn't pull
quite as effortlessly
as its heavy-duty siblings,
but the 15000 still
has cool trailering tech.
And it is more
than ready to take
some dirt bikes or a small
camper out for the weekend.
Speaking of trailer
tech, this thing
has 15 different camera views.
You can see everything
that's happening everywhere,
in space even.
You guys, you guys,
you guys, yeah,
there's a buffalo right there.
There's two buffalo.
That is so cool.
Hey, guys, do you like my truck?

Every time I get into a big
truck, I'm always thinking,
am I going to be able to
see out of this thing?
Is it going to be
hard for me to drive
because I'm not a big person?
Seat moves up.
The steering wheel moves down.
Visibility is great.
And also, did I mention
15 camera angles?
This thing is fine.
I've been in small cars that
were harder to see out of.
But you might be
watching this and going,
well, I am a big
person, so is it
going to be comfortable for me?
And that is why I have driven
around with many big people
this week.
And they have all said that
they have plenty of room,
including in the back.
Another big question
whenever you get into a truck
is, is it going to
handle like a truck?
Is it going to
ride like a truck?
Are we going to be
bouncing around in here
and having to slow down
to 10 miles an hour
for even the slightest corner?
No.
No, actually you don't.
The suspension is
tuned really well.
We were driving around
in the mountains,
and it was not a problem.
We were able to keep
up with traffic.
We didn't feel big and unwieldy.
Now, if you're
already a GMC fan,
you already understand
the vibe of GMC.
But if you're not, you
might be wondering,
what is GMC compared to Chevy,
which is a sibling company?
Or where does GMC fit
in the truck market?
GMC describes itself
as premium pro.
So is the Sierra meeting
that luxury idea?
OK, it's kind of interesting,
because from a driving
perspective, I would
say absolutely.
I mean, it's smoother than
some Cadillacs I've been in.
I think the drive
quality is really nice.
I think the handling is nice.
And again, it's so quiet.
From a material standpoint,
in the interior,
ahh, I think they could
push a little bit harder.
It's sort of weird,
because I would
say that, from a tech and
performance standpoint,
GMC is doing a good job of
providing a premium experience.
There's this cool mirror that
flips to have a full view,
not blocked by anything
that's in the truck.
And you can get heated
and cooled seats.
And again, it's very
comfortable in here, very roomy.
It's just the actual
physical materials
that are covering the
interior, they're only OK.
[MUSIC PLAYING]

I sure wish I had
somewhere to sit.

Well, you look at that.
I'm a fan of the half
ton with diesel grunt.
This is a good truck.
GMC is doing it a
little bit differently
than some of the
competitors, with a focus
on driving comfort and tech
over top towing numbers.
But unless you're hauling
something every day,
I'd say the 3-Liter Sierra
is a great workhorse
to add to your stable.

2020 Chevrolet Silverado 2500/3500: First Look – PickupTrucks.com

2020 Chevrolet Silverado 2500/3500: First Look – PickupTrucks.com

Cars.com:

this is our first chance to see the 2020
Chevy Silverado heavy duties right next
to me is a 2500 LTZ and you can look at
it and tell that this is an all-new
pickup truck powertrain design interior
everything has been completely redone as
far as powertrains the carryover Duramax
diesel is gonna come to the new 2020
Silverado HD s what you have here are
some Auto Show cables so it might look a
little bit different but still the exact
same carry over engine 445 horsepower
910 foot-pounds of torque but now has a
10 speed heavy-duty Allison transmission
made it up to it also the big news in
all-new 6.6 liter direct injection v8
engine 401 horsepower 464 foot-pounds of
torque now that new gas engine is also
made it up to a revised six-speed
transmission and also one thing to
consider here if you're doing any work
on your engine on these new heavy duties
they're a little taller than they were
before so when you're trying to reach
for this hood it's a little difficult
inside everything is going to be very
familiar to the Silverado half-ton
pickup truck regular extended and crew
cab is going to be larger more legroom
especially for rear passengers but the
inside - very very similar to what we've
already seen on the half tons dual glove
boxes this is the LTZ package very nice
organic looking center console plenty of
storage here in the middle and also a
uniquely designed gauge cluster for the
driver another feature we like an
all-wheel drive capable transfer case on
a heavy duty vehicle that's a segment
exclusive here at the back of the truck
we love the fact that it's got the rear
view cameras push button tailgate drop
does it automatically you also have four
fifth wheel or gooseneck hitches you've
got the 4 and the 7 pin hitches here on
the inside also a three-prong 120 volt
plug here on the opposite side and then
you've got almost 7 inches of extra
width in the beds and the longest beds
in the segment no matter what the cab
configuration
and then because this has the auto
dropout a lift tailgate one push button
and it'll send the tailgate right back
up and closed
there's obviously tons to talk about
with this new vehicle and we will be
talking more about this after we get
some time behind the wheel but to call
out just two features that we really
like the DEF tank is right here at the
fuel filler and the fact is that every
single duly equipped Chevy heavy-duty
Silverado 3500 with the diesel will be
able to tow over thirty five thousand
pounds for more information go to pickup

SILVERADO - Everything You Need to Know | Up to Speed

SILVERADO - Everything You Need to Know | Up to Speed

Donut Media:

(crowd noise)
- Yeah man, I'm a Chevy
boy, Bowtie Brigadier,
Bowtie Brigade, First Sergeant,
General Staff Sergeant.
You know my truck's got
them Realtree camo seats,
them rockstar rims with
that star in the middle, uh.
Yes, got a lift six inch.
I can pretty much go
(snort) anywhere I want.
Yo, you thirsty?
I got 30 rack and 90 likes in the back.
(spit)
(laughter)
This is everything you need
to know to get up to speed
on the Chevy Silverado.
(energetic gaming music)
The history of Chevy's Silverado begins
with Chevy's iconic C and K
series full size pickup trucks.
The C/K models span four
generations between 1959 and 2000.
So what is the difference
between the C and the K series trucks?
About eight letters.
(laughter)
It was the drivetrains.
The C was rear-wheel drive.
And the K was four-wheel drive.
Chevy C/K trucks were trusty
steeds and were well loved
by anyone who made an honest
living hauling heavy payloads:
ranchers, farmers, fishermen, race teams,
farm farmers, fish racers, etc...
We'll do a whole episode on the C10 pickup
but this is about the Silverado.
So we're gonna skip ahead a bit.
In the late '70's, Chevy
introduced the name Silverado
as a trim level of their
third generation C/K truck.
It was a bit classier with
chrome trim and a snaz interior,
hashtag #snaz.
Let's make it a thing.
But maintained the offroad ruggedness
that was earning there
like the rock reputation.
By the early '90's, them
boys 'n girls at GM realized
that the landscape of the
American truck market had changed.
Import trucks had created
a new small truck market
through the '80's.
And Chevy knew that they
had to go one of two ways
with their new truck line.
Smaller and more fuel efficient?
Or bigger and more badass?
So what would they do?
They already had the tiny S10 pickups so-
They went bigger!
Bigger!
(shouting)
(beep)
[Announcer] Hey guys, hang on.
Hurry up.
We'll be - don't worry, it's going
to be fixed any minute now.
(beep)
- Chevy doubled down with
the Silverado and decided
that while the other guys were
all chasing their tales making
little baby (bleep) trucks,
they would position the
Silverado as the workhorse
against which other's
workhorses would be measured.
In 1998 through the 1999
model year, a bigger,
badder Chevy truck, the
Silverado, finally made it
on to the scene.
Okay, guys- I want to
paint a picture for ya.
It's 1998, I'm just realizing I want cars.
I'm living with my dad for
the first time in six years.
I find a picture in a car
magazine of a Chevy Silverado.
"Dad, I want this truck!"
And he's like, "Sure."
He was a liar.
I couldn't- We couldn't afford that.
Anyways, one of the
first cars I ever wanted.
I thought it was cool as shit.
I lived in Kentucky.
Back to the story.
The Silverado was setting
a new standard for trucks.
It was bigger, faster,
stronger, and smarter.
Bigger, faster, stronger, smarter.
The Silverado 1500 got better
gas mileage than the F150,
made more power than the Dodge Ram,
and could tow more than either of them.
(tires burning out)
After proving itself to
be America's best truck,
the Silverado earned Motor
Trend's Truck of the Year award.
Sure, they gave it to the
Mercedes M-Class the year before
and the Aerostar Minivan in 1990,
but that's besides the point.
The top of the food chain, large adult son
of the Chevy truck line-up
during this generation was
the 3500HD which stands
for heavy hog- hashtag #heavydog.
Let's make it happen.
And get ready all you diesel nerds,
here's the thing you've been waiting for.
Duramax!
(exhaust spewing)
The 3500 heavy dog was
powered by a 6.6 liter
Duramax diesel V8
and cranked out 360 hrsprs
and 650 pound feet of turk.
This big boy could tow
almost 17,000 pounds,
and haul around 5,000 pounds in the bed.
That's enough to carry
my two buffest horses,
Dice and Carlin.
But what if you don't
need to haul heavy stuff?
What if the only thing you
need to haul is (bleep)?
Enter the Chevy Silverado Super Sport,
a 345 horsepower beast, powered
by Chevy's 6 liter LQ9 V8.
It came with a four
speed automatic gearbox,
all wheel drive,
and had an aggressive
four ten gear ratio for-
basically burnouts.
It was a burnout truck.
(tires burning out)
(tires squealing)
By 2006, it would come
with more cool upgrades
like performance
suspension, 20-inch wheels,
and even a limited edition Intimidator SS
which I will talk about-
right now.
Dale Earnhardt was one of the winningest
and most badass race car
drivers in American history.
The very sight of Dale in
the rearview was enough
to make you quiver with fear.
Catching a glimpse of
that legendary mustache
intimidated the competition
in to submission,
thus the Intimidator.
In 2006, five years after
Dale's tragic death,
Chevy honored his memory with
the Intimidator SS edition.
This sport truck only came in Onyx Black
and had a whole bunch of
sick appearance upgrades
like a rear spoiler on a truck,
headrests emblazoned with an image
of Dale winning against a big E,
and Intimidator badges all over.
Handling was improved.
It had bigger anti-roll bars
with the locking 3.73 diff in the back.
You know what that means, right?
Big old smoking burnouts
with both tires spinning!
Do it for Dale!
I really like this guy and
everybody should watch NASCAR.
(tires burning out)
As fun as race inspired trucks are,
they're not the reason
most people buy trucks.
Most people, who buy trucks, buy trucks
because they're rough
and ready work doers.
And that brings us to perhaps
the most iconic Silverado
there is, the Z71.
I know you've seen the iconic Z71 badge.
I'm about to tell you cute,
little babies what it means.
Originally, Z71 was just an internal code
for an options package.
For ordering purposes,
the Z71 package came
with upgraded Bilstein
shocks, skid plates,
and an offroad ready locking rear diff.
(tires spinning)
To their complete surprise,
the Z71 sold like hotcakes.
And why wouldn't they?
The fact that the most
purpose built version
of Chevy's most purpose
built truck further proved
that when you wanted a
real truck workhorse,
you got a Chevy.
(tires spinning in mud)
Chevy had also been running
their like the rock adds
for over a decade.
And by 2004, nine years
after Post Malone was born,
I guess they figured
they'd made their point.
Chevy's new umbrella slogan
for all of their vehicles was-
- [Announcer] Chevy Silverado,
an American revolution.
- And they tried to
expand their market share.
Chevy offered it as a
hybrid in 2004 dubbed-
the Silverado Hybrid.
The Silverado Hybrid was
also the first mild hybrid
which used an electric motor just to help
with starting up, charging batteries,
and powering accessories.
So, it wasn't really one.
The second generation
Silverado was everything
the first generation was and more.
It de-butted in 2007 and got a more plush,
more upscale interior,
with a revised exterior,
with smaller panel
gaps, and tighter lines.
It sat atop an entirely new frame
and completely revised suspension.
The new frame improved body
stiffness by a massive 92%,
a bigger transformation
than Christian Bale going
from The Machinist to The
Dark Knight in under a year.
The new 6.2 liter, 403
horsepower Vortec V8
was now available to
make the new truck faster
and haul more libs.
The new, sleeker body design
offered better fuel economy
which was getting more important
while America entered the Great Recession.
Speaking of fuel economy,
you can finally get a six-speed
automatic transmission,
a much welcomed upgrade
over the previous gen's
dog of a four-speed.
Welcome to the 21st Century, Silverado!
(peppy country music)
Chevy aimed to make it even better.
2014 saw the introduction
of a brand new Silverado
after the second gen's seven year run.
The third generation K2XX
Silverado came on the scene
with updated body work, better
grill, bigger wheel arches,
and a host of new trims and engines.
What else were you
expecting, it's a Chevy?
(tires burning out)
For the third gen Silverado, GM did away
with the Vortec family of V8s
and introduced the Ecotec V6s and V8s.
They made more power, baby!
With this generation, Chevy
made a bunch of changes
that increased the strength
and dropped the weight
of the new Silverado.
They used aluminum in
the hood, engine block,
and massive control arms to save weight.
Ask your grandpappy if
he ever thought the hood
of a Chevy truck would
be made out of aluminum.
And he'd say, "Who are you?"
"Give me my nurse."
This was also the first time
the Silverado had a model
with high luxury, high
spec, and high class.
The High Country came with a
beautiful leather interior,
all the amenities you could want,
and because it's a Chevy, special badging!
(tires burning out)
The biggest development
with the third gen Silverado
was the massive amount
of special editions.
Whoo boy, were there special editions.
There was the Texas
edition, Alaskan edition,
Rally edition 1, Rally
edition 2, Blackout edition,
Midnight edition, Midnight HD
edition, Custom Sport edition,
Realtree edition, Redline
edition, Special Ops edition,
High Desert edition.
Oh my god, I think that's it.
But wait, you forgot about
the Costco Sport HD edition,
the LT, the LTZ, the Z71.
Oh my god, it's gotta
be the most- cause might
as well talk about history.
It was all kinds of trucks
for all kinds of people.
This year Chevy debuted
the fourth generation,
T1XX Silverado.
It has an even more aggressive front end,
more muscular wheel arches,
Robocop-inspired headlights,
and a healthy mix of engines.
This one is also the first time Chevy
has put a 2.7 liter turbo
under the hood of a Silverado.
This turbo four cylinder engine gets
as much as 22 pounds of boost.
This little puppy cranks outs 310 hrsprs
and 348 pound feet of turks.
Just like before, if you've got a pulse,
they got a Silverado for you.
And don't lament the
loss of the Z71 package
because they still got twos of them,
Trail Boss and Custom Trail Boss.
It's got a fricking lift, offroad tires,
and of course a skid plate.
And it doesn't stop there,
the 2020 Silverado will be even bigger.
And for al you coal bros, you pervs,
the old Duramax diesel
V8 is gonna give you
910 pound feet of torque
through a new Allison ten speed.
Keep'em coming, Chevy!
(spits)
(crowd noise)

2019 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali: First Look

2019 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali: First Look

Cars.com:

We're here in Detroit Michigan where GM
has just introduced us to the 2019 GMC
Sierra 1500 now we've already seen the
Chevy sibling the Silverado 1500 at the
Detroit Auto Show and a lot of the
underpinnings as you might expect are
going to be all the same the same frame
same chassis and same set of power
trains it's going to be two v8 engines
the five three and the six two and also
a new 3 litre straight-six diesel but
there's more to this vehicle than just
being a pretty face or the premium trim
package for this half-ton pickup truck
from a design point of view GMC is
really trying harder to separate itself
from Chevrolet you still have the unique
signature C shape headlights you also
have the air diffusers that actually
come take wind from the front end of the
vehicle send it through the wheel wells
to reduce a lot of that force that hits
this big flat face this new GMC grille
is a much flatter face pushing those
wheels out to the corner and also a very
unique way of setting up the tow hook
here it's vertically mounted instead of
like every other tow hook we've ever
seen which is horizontally mounted here
at the wheels there's a very defining
characteristic here in the wheel well so
it's got a wheel arch with a very
trapezoidal almost cut here at the front
of the wheel well also we've got a new
engine label here on the side
Chevy doesn't get that either and also
as far as unique pieces on this vehicle
this is a unique completely unique door
they've never had this before between
the Chevy and the GMC siblings but this
GMC cut line wraps around here and then
extends all the way to the bed here in
the bed a lot of things going on not the
least of which this very cool multi Pro
tailgate so not only do you have a
high-definition camera and light here at
the back end but you also have push
button tailgate drop but also
a new tailgate step the drop drops and
makes it real easy for you to get up
inside inside much wider more volume for
cargo also 21 different tie-down places
and lights and even a standard 110-volt
three-pronged plug in inside definitely
an upgrade here for the Denali package
although we have to admit we were hoping
for a little bit more we like the fact
they've kept the dual glove boxes
they've simplified the set of toggles
here along the center stack and also
they've improved the from our opinion
the trailer brake controller location
they've made it a nice easy one touch
grab here right at your right hand and
also they've provided a new four-wheel
drive system that's more push-button and
dials than the previous generation here
in back it's obvious that they've
extended the cab length to give you more
leg room but we like the fact that it's
now a very flat load floor they've also
provided for some very nice cubbies
underneath the rear seats and also some
hidden storage in the seat backs but
they still don't have a full size
moonroof like the other competitors for
now we still don't have all the
information and specs on the powertrains
we expect to have a separate powertrain
event we'll get a chance to drive all
the different engine configurations
later in the year pricing for this
vehicle isn't going to come out until it
actually gets closer to going on sale
which will be later this fall of 2018
for more information in photography go
to pickup trucks calm
you

First Look: 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and 2014 GMC Sierra

First Look: 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and 2014 GMC Sierra

Cars.com:

well the day is finally here this is
when we get a chance to see
two new pickup trucks I'm Mark Williams for
pickup trucks dot com
and we're here just outside pontiac
michigan where general motors
showing us the 2014 Chevy Silverado 1500
and the 2014 GMC Sierra 1500
let's take a closer look of
a lot of the most significant changes
have to do with a rope
fuel economy is a huge issue so a lot of
the design changes especially to the
front and
were a direct result of trying to
squeeze out every mpg they possibly can
that means wider grill narrower slats
taller look because a lot of the GM guys
are saying that their truck guys
want a truck that looks like a truck
that means
looking more like the current generation
heavy-duty
it's worth noting that especially in the
grill the separation between a Chevy
and the GMC look is probably the most
dramatic
other specific details specifically
tailored toward being slippery year
through the win
new bulging fenders a more
inlaid looks to the doors no longer does
the door shut
up high where can grab a lot of the
women create turbulence
but now it's over the lip and well
sealed also the way the air
rushes past the cab and over the bed is
now sealed as well too
in a win diffuser here in the front
tires
also is going to help improve fuel
economy probably the biggest news that
we're hearing from both these trucks
three brand new engines all lumina
continuously variable valve timing
direct injection
and cylinder deactivation
across-the-board 4.3 liter v6
5.3 liter v8 and a 6.2 liter v8 now
they're not telling us the horsepower
and torque numbers yet
but they're making some big promises so
that means the v6
somewhere around 300 horsepower the 53
somewhere well above 350 horsepower
and the 6.2 come on this is the Corvette
engines
somewhere bumping up around 400
horsepower
that means big towing numbers and big
hauling capacity
probably some pretty high G VW's as well
we'll have to wait and see for that
clearly GM engineers to spend a lot of
time on this pickup bed
rolled steel instead of stamp steel for
weight savings
and strength 6 tie downs five
thousand-pound capacities
in the bed integrated bumper step to
make access
into the bed much easier and a fully
structured tailgate
to make it much easier to drop it by
yourself without doing any damage
as well as lifting it with very little
effort
it cannot be overstated
how vastly improve these new interiors
on his new trucks
first thing we like right off the bat
trailer brake controller
nice n Easy in our vision right up on
top four-wheel drive controller
easy to grab nice big knob right next to
it the door itself
brand new materials soft touch pad Inc
plenty of storage
huge improvement not only is there a
completely new gauge cluster
here but there's a 4.2 inch information
screen for the driver that has a host of
information
that you can monitor in real time or
overtime
but the money the heart and soul for
this new interior redesign
is right here in the center stack
big-screen
radio controls easy to see knobs
a/c controls and toggle switches that
control all sorts of
data and information around the truck
and power
you have electronics four separate
difference
power sources and a completely
reconfigurable
both storage area in the middle we also
want to make note that
Extended Cab models don't have the
suicide or
configuration anymore regular
conventional
rear door also a longer wheelbase
brand new wheelbase crew cab six and a
half foot bed model
this all out GM to better compete both
with their GMC
and their Chevy models against the new
RAM 1500 and the Ford F 150
and we don't want to forget the frame is
essentially the same
the suspension essentially the same but
still big changes
high-strength potential stealing the
cross members
ultra high-strength steel in the
mainframes
the suspension still near leaves front
coilovers
but the tuning and the fine-tuning is
completely different
that's what GM is telling us whether or
not this is going to be enough for
people to say this is a
a revolutionary pickup truck from
General Motors
even if you're a hardcore show the guy
you're a hardcore GMC guy
will will that other people have that
debate for us
there's a lot new in a lot for us to
explore we've only scratched the surface
here

2021 GMC Yukon | Professional Grade? | Steve Hammes

2021 GMC Yukon | Professional Grade? | Steve Hammes

Steve Hammes New Car Reviews:

When the Escalade is a little too rich for
your blood and a Chevy a tad too plebian,
GMC is right there to perfectly meet your
large SUV needs.
The all-new 2021 Yukon and its extra-long
brother the Yukon XL have plenty of new tricks
up their sleeves including an even more luxurious
Denali model and the addition of the more
rugged AT4 trim.
Families will appreciate the Yukon’s nearly
5” longer wheelbase which substantially
expands 3rd row legroom and max cargo volume.
The Yukon XL also grows in those regards but
more modestly.
A new sliding 2nd row seat makes getting in
and out of that 3rd row easier than ever.
Of course, the new independent rear suspension
also plays a role in the smarter packaging
as well as elevating the Yukon’s ride sophistication.
If you’ve ever driven a GM vehicle with
Magnetic Ride Control you know how amazing
these shocks can be at controlling the body
and furthering handling while an available
air suspension should really take the edge
off and provide an additional 2” of ground
clearance when off-roading.
The big 6.2 V8 puts out 420 horsepower while
the standard engine is the familiar 5.3 liter
V8.
Rounding out the offerings is a new 3.0-liter
turbo-diesel which GMC says will lead in fuel
efficiency.
A 10-speed auto and new 4-wheel drive system
aim to improve traction, handling and overall
control.
Contrasting the Denali’s uptown look is
the AT4’s adventurous design which better
supports off-road capability with an up to
32 degree approach angle, recovery hooks,
skid plates and 20” all terrain tires.
And for the Denali, an exclusive interior
awash in premium materials truly distinguishes
it from the other trims with 4 available color
themes, authentic wood and hand stitched leather.
Also new is the Power Sliding Center Console
that can slide back up to 10” for expanded
storage and convenience.
Built in Texas, the 2021 Yukon and Yukon XL
go on sale this summer.

you have your fuel range
your average fuel economy
speedometers
timer,
your transmission temperature
your oil life
your units
your tire pressure moitoring system
trailer
engine hours
and then just a few options there
And coming on to this very nice leather wrapped steering wheel
You can see that those wood grain details do wrap all the way around
Adds that gorgeous finish to it
The steering wheel is heated
we have our cruise control options here
As well as our audio options
with the volume controls back here
So if I turn the volume up
Let's make sure that we're on
So we do have AM and FM radio
But if you just press this button once
it will mute the audio
and if you press and hold it
"Ready?"
Cancel.
"Cancel. Thank you"
"Goodbye"
So it does
give us that Bluetooth option there
And once again just using the volume control
Down the centre we do have once again that
woodgrain detail
Looks absolutely stunning
We have the CD player, AUX output
Once again AM and FM radio
colour touch screen
Navigation
You can do destination there
You've got your menu
We have all of the option here for our CD player
And just putting it into reverse
We do have that back-up camera
That does
The lines do adjust
when you turn the steering wheel
as you can see
Dual climate control here
So if you are feeling a little bit cold
your passenger is feeling a little bit warmer
you can have two different temperatures there
As well as two
12 volt outlets, your adjustable pedals like I mentioned before
your traction control
And coming on down here
we have two, little, hidden
sneak away
cup holders and storage there
Plenty of storage down there
and a USB port with a 12 volt outlet
Coming on to the glove box
you'll see that it is locking
and has plenty of space to store
all of your owners manuals and anything else you'll need
Sorry about the sun guys
Coming up to the top
We have our tilt
and sliding
sunroof
What a wonderful thing to have on these
gorgeous, gorgeous days just like today
sunny and beautiful
go for a cruise with it open
or you know what, if your not feeling it
you can close it and there is that shade there
And just using this buttom here
will open and close that rear
mirror
and OnStar on the rear view mirror
as well
Alright, well there are still some features in the back
so if you stick with me I'll show you them now
Coming on into the back
you're going to see your passengers will have
plenty of space back here
it's very roomy and very comfortable
On the back of the driver and passenger seat
we do have the map holders
with the vinyl backing
so it's easy to clean, easy to wipe away
if you do get any dirt on there
We have, uh
the, ah
there's two AUX ports here
and options here to be able to control the radio
AUX outputs there as well
and a 12 volt outlet
as well as magical cupholders there
Coming up to the top we have a
rear view *laughs* rear reading lights
but also, more importantly
a DVD player
Great to keep the kids entertained
tucks just away, just like that
Once again the 60/40 split folding rear bench
with cup holders in the center consol
as well
fold up just as easily
if you are wanting to have that third person
in that middle seat there
Of course all the child safety locks and anchors
that you'll need
And it folds up just like that
giving you access to that storage underneath
Folds down
just as easily
And coming on to the back
You'll see that we do have a
folding Tonneau cover
rear back-up sensors
that camera that I showed you earlier there
trailering hitch down here with the
7 pin
And underneath there you will see that there is that
spare tire
You can see how this would be a great work vehicle
or just a daily commuter
It'll take you where you need to go
no need to worries about
no need to worry about that
Opened that a little bit aggressively
And once again the back here
that 60/40
The 40 part of the 60/40 here
extra storage once again
And just coming on into the front
Gotta love that woodgrain detail
it just adds that little bit of extra
pizzazz to this truck
Well you don't have to take my word for it
you can come on down here to Sherwood Park Chev
yourself, we are a click or a call away
We have all the AMVIC and inspection reports that you will need
I want to thank you guys once again for watching my videos
My names Dakota
