Why Do We Drive On The Right? | WheelHouse | Donut Media

Donut Media:

We don’t care about your metric system,
we don’t care about your crown, and we sure
as hell don’t care about exercise!
(AMERICA INTESIFIES)
Different countries drive on different sides
of the road.
The story begins long before any cars, when
we were just walking around, like a bunch
of schmucks.
Archaeologists have found paved roads dating
back like 6000 years.
But the biggest road network by far, was built
by the Romans.
By 200 AD, they pretty much ruled all of europe,
including Britain.
And since they built the roads, everyone had
to to follow their rules.
We know that most people are right handed,
and for most righties, it’s much easier to mount
a horse from the left.
And you don’t want to do this in traffic,
so people would do this on the left hand side
of the road.
Riding on the left also makes it much easier
to pull your sword if anyone’s coming at
you in an aggressive and dickish way.
Because of Rome, most of Europe traveled on
the left for like 1800 years- long after the
Empire had fallen.
But today, most of Europe travels on the right--
and that’s because one little dude who wanted
to be a dick.
Napoleon had a Napoleon complex.
His goal was to make the greatest empire ever.
Part of that, to him, was to make everybody
drive his way.
he had to get rid of the roman style, and
make everybody drive on the right.
And people were like, “alright you already
invaded, you won, it’s not really a big
deal.
Whatever.
Gotta go home to my wife anyway and she’s
a real piece of work.
But the one place Napoleon couldn’t get
to was England.
And as kind of a “screw you” to Napoleon,
They made traveling on the left the law
of the land.
Yeah, There was a guideline around in 1773
that suggested they do this, but they made
it official with the Highway Act of 1835.
When the British and French were busy colonizing
the heck out of the world, they brought their
customs with them.
And That’s why most often if a country was
a French Colony like Vietnam or Morocco, they
drive on the right, And if they were a British
colony like Australia or India, they drive
on the left.
But there was one British Colony that didn’t
follow the rules
America was a big frickin' place
And we had to transport a lot of stuff over
great distances.
A dinky little horse cart wasn’t gonna cut
it, we needed some big ol’ wagons. Two, four
or even six animal teams were the norm!
So, you got yourself a wagon, where ya gonna
sit?
Well, since you’re probably right handed,
you’re gonna sit on the left rear horse,
because that makes it easier to whip all of
the animals with your right hand.
And since you’re sitting on the left, you’re
gonna drive on the right to make sure you
don’t crash into oncoming traffic.
America starts to drive on the right.
In the mid 1800s we started paving our roads.
We dug deep drainage ditches on each side.
The wagon riders didn’t want to risk falling
into the ditch, so they started sitting on
the right.
So now They’re sitting on the right, while
driving on the right.
And when the first cars came along, they
didn’t think of that any differently.
The first American cars were all right-hand
drive!
Even Henry Ford’s first car, the Model A,
in 1903, had its steering wheel on the right
hand side.
But by the time he designed the Model T, there
were enough cars on the road that how close
you were to oncoming traffic was more important
than how close you were to the edge of the
road.
on the Model T, he moved the wheel to the
left.
Ford sold nearly 15 million Model T’s in
18 years, so everyone else started to do it
too.
What about Japan?
They were never a British colony and Napoleon
never got that far.
Like the Romans, and for similar reasons,
the Japanese historically travelled on the
left.
In the mid 1800s, they needed some railroads.
So They reached out to Great Britain for some
help.
It was during this period of modernization
that they made it official: Japan would drive
on the left.
Not all countries had such a smooth decision
process.
Sweden wasn’t aligned with Napoleon during
his reign, so they never had to give up the
Roman tradition of travelling on the left.
Not a big deal on horseback, but about 150
years later, 90% of Swedes drove left hand
drive vehicles, in a left driving country.
And this led to an abnormally high amount
of head-on collisions.
So in 1967, Sweden had Ho- Hoger- Hogertrafikom-
Högertrafikomläggningen, or right hand traffic
diversion day.
All non essential traffic was banned between
1 and 6 AM.
And If you were driving, you had to pull over
at 4:50, carefully cross the road, wait a
few minutes and continue driving
People got up to watch this, at 4:50.
As recently as 2009, Samoa switched from
the right to the left.
The Samoan government argues that right
hand drive vehicles from Australia and New
Zealand would be much cheaper for Samoans
to import.
In the days leading up to the switch, anti-switch
protesters warned of mass casualties and chaos
but, that didn’t happen.
The government declared a three day holiday
so nobody drove, and at 6am on the third day,
people lined the streets to witness the CRAZY
left side driving.
And everybody was fine.
Dude, if we did that in LA it’d look like
a disaster movie starring Dwayne The Rock
Johnson.
And yes I still call him The Rock.
I still smell what The Rock is cookin’ by
the way!
So that’s why we drive WHERE we drive.
And it really has very little to do with cars.
It’s a combination of a lot things: timing,
convenience, or someone wanting to leave a
legacy.
And In America, it’s because we’re really
really big.
Thanks for watching WheelHouse, remember to
like, comment, share and subscribe.
If you like left hand drive cars we talk about
a ton of them on Up to Speed, uh the AE86,
Integra Type R, that’s my personal favorite.
CHECK THOSE OUT.
Which side of the road do you drive on?
Left or Right?
Are you a mailman?
Do you have a right hand drive car?
That must be kind of weird, tell us about
that!
Please.
Thanks for watching, bye! :)

2019 Chevrolet Silverado Review and First Drive — Cars.com

2019 Chevrolet Silverado Review and First Drive — Cars.com

Cars.com:

we're here in some of the most beautiful
parts of the country the Idaho Wyoming
border where we've had our first chance
to get behind the wheel of the 2019
silverado half-ton now there's a lot to
talk about with this truck but we're
gonna try to keep it focused I'm going
to talk about the interior the bed our
off-road impressions how it tows and
what it feels like on the highway inside
the Chevy trail bus is e71
it's got the cloth interior the new
redesign Center stack which is closer to
the driver and passenger to control the
nav system and any AC functions it's got
a nine switch line up here depending on
what features you have and also the
four-wheel drive system is now in the
upper left-hand corner both with the tow
haul mode and a sport mode and
thankfully they've put the trailer brake
controller down here and easy access
here at the right hand but it also has a
huge center console whether you have the
storage bin here in front or whether you
have the middle seat that pops up with a
hidden storage underneath the seat you
still have tons of room inside for any
of your personal gear here at the back
we love the dual exhausts they've also
redesigned the bumper steps to make it
easier to access the bed itself here on
the tailgate push button electronic drop
and also on some trim packages all it
takes is a push of the knee and it
automatically closes all by itself but
the bed itself has some of the most
interesting features we've seen in a
pickup bed in a long time on the floor
cold rolled steel for strength also the
walls the walls themselves are made of a
high-strength steel so this is probably
some of the strongest beds in the
half-ton segment also 12 different
tie-down points each 500 pound capacity
on every pickup truck with nine other
exterior holes to give you a total of 21
different holes that you can have for
tie-downs to keep your cargo safe but
the feature we like the most
the optional 120 volt 3 prong plug
right here in the bed on the off-road
course the trail boss is z71 was
impressive there's no other way to
explain it this vehicle has a 2-inch
suspension lift makes room for bigger
wheels and tires more aggressive treads
the Goodyear Wranglers but also has
monotube Rancho shocks very good for
this kind of obstacle course that we had
created here by Chevy for us we had a
log run we had a hill climb over some
loose dirt rock we also had a
rock-strewn area very similar to a
Rubicon Trail and then we also had a big
mud pit that we were able to get up some
speed and do some very nasty splashing
but this vehicle does very well it's
going to compete very well with other
off-road packages it's not a Ford Raptor
but it's a very impressive
when it comes to trailering Chevy is
really upping their game in fact they've
created for this new half-ton Silverado
they've created what's called the
advanced trailering package which is the
combination of integrated cameras along
with a lot of accessible information
they haven't loaded right into the nav
screen that they can get any time they
can program different types of trailers
that they're going to be using and they
can keep track of the fuel economy and
different connections around the truck
in fact you can even check from the
driver's seat whether or not all the
lights on your trailer and your vehicle
your tow vehicle are all working at the
same time now the connections here
accommodate a fourth camera it has to be
hardwired but it can provide you with a
view off the back end of the trailer so
when you pop it into reverse you know
exactly what's behind you when you're
trailering now we had a chance to take
this trailer a 6,000 pound cargo trailer
out on the road and we have to say that
this is a very comfortable and confident
vehicle to tow with
6,000 pounds isn't your normal weight in
fact that's probably more than 90% of
people are going to be towing with their
half-ton pickup truck but we can say
with the suspension changes and also
this technology advancement with this
trailer package this is probably one of
the best trailer packages we've had a
chance to derive so we're out of the mud
we've disconnected the trailer we're
back on the highway so this is just two
lane road where it's 6,000 feet so the
powertrain feels a little underpowered
but that's okay because there's a lot of
horsepower in both the 5 3 or the 6-2 v8
engines that are available for this new
Silverado on the road very composed this
is probably the single biggest
improvement not that the last half-ton
Silverado was bad but this one is so
much better it's almost difficult to
even compare the two very composed
especially into hard corners it's a
wonderful little switch that puts a
little racing flag up on the information
- that
to know you're in sport mode you get a
little tighter feel to the steering
wheel little quicker response on the
throttle and this thing just stays
hugged to the ground we're in the trail
boss so that means we're a little higher
because of the suspension lift but
there's nothing about this vehicle that
feels tippy or you know out of sorts
whether we're pushing it we've pushed it
a few times around some corners it
absorbs every kind of corner that we
could throw at it no matter what the
speed is that we're going into that
corner so I mean overall this is a very
impressive feel on two-lane highways it
seems like almost any of the trim
package combinations are very versatile
doing moderately well if they're
four-wheel drive but also doing very
very well if you want to get a little
more enthusiastic on pavement what's our
biggest takeaway from our time behind
the wheel of the 2019 silverado half-ton
is how far they've come now we love the
classics but this new half-ton pickup
truck looks like it could be a game
changer for Chevy and we love the fact
that they're requiring on every single
vehicle and this isn't a government
mandate but every single vehicle on the
door jamb lets the owner of that
specific truck know exactly what the
maximum trailer capacity is and maximum
payload capacity is for each truck
that's about safety and we like that for
more information about this truck go to
pickup trucks calm
you

1936 Chevy Standard by Juan Carillo - LOWRIDER Roll Models Ep. 28

1936 Chevy Standard by Juan Carillo - LOWRIDER Roll Models Ep. 28

Lowrider Roll Models:

- Its hard for a rose to grow in concrete
because there's no soil.
I wanna be that rose that stayed there
and built a garden in the concrete.
(upbeat Motown music)
Low riding has a huge misconception.
A lot of people associate
it with gang violence
and drugs and drug dealers and what not,
but you know it's not a rap video.
I take pride in my car.
You know my family name
is behind this car,
my daughters and my wife are on this car
and there's nothing that I
would do to mess that up.
I have a 1936 Chevy Standard
four door with suicide doors.
The body is candy magenta
and the fenders are also
candy magenta with a little
bit of metal flake on it.
I've got some pinstripe
and some silver leafing
with candy on top.
I don't have too many accessories.
I'd say the only accessories I have
are the visor and a custom grill.
I just wanted to give it
just that extra touch.
The engine I have a 235 that
I took out of a 1955 Chevy.
It's rebuilt and I decided to candy it,
paint it the color of the car.
And in the trunk I have two Pesco 280's
they're also known as the Screaming Mimi's
they were used in world war two bombers.
It's a very unique hydraulic set up
where what we use as
oil tanks now used to be
used as oxygen tanks in
these bombers for the pilots,
so they're separate from
the hydraulic pump itself.
The pump itself is candied like the car,
and everything else is chromed out.
There's nothing that's
stock in the interior.
New door panels, my
rear seat is customized,
my two front seats are
out of a 1995 Lexus.
Originally on these cars the bench seat
is a little close to the steering wheel,
I just wasn't comfortable
and I needed something
a little bit more relaxed for me.
So that's why I decided on
the tilt steering column
with the custom steering wheel,
both of the seats are powered
so I drive with my seat
as far back as I can get it
and it's real comfortable.
The interior is like a cream vinyl
with suede inserts and a little bit of
stainless steel touches on it.
I have custom gauges.
I'm rolling on 13 inch
Znits, so 72 spokes,
the spokes are candied on 520's.
So I named my car Linda Chicana.
I really thought about it because the name
has to flow with the car you know,
and one day we're at my dad's house
listening to some music, hangin out,
and this song by Chunky
y Los Alacranes came on
called "Linda Chicana"
where they talk about
a chicana overcoming
everything bad in her life.
No matter what she's gone through
and she will always persevere.
And I was like damn Linda
Chicana that's a cool name.
I have murals only on
the inside of the car.
I have Aztec work, Mayan work,
a little bit of Toltec designs
on there for the murals.
At first I only had my daughter in there
and then in the trunk
I got my wife in there
and then my four year old ,
when she was about two years
old I got her muraled on there.
So now I have my three
lindas chicanas on the car.
So I was born and raised
in south San Diego
in the community of Del Sol.
I come from a family of five,
I have an older brother who
is a year and a half older
than I am and a sister who is
five years younger than I am.
My parents divorced when
I was 20, 21 years old
and I didn't really know how to take it.
It was a little rough
time you know emotionally
but eventually I got out of that.
My father was born in San Diego,
mainly raise in Tijuana.
My grandparents wanted him to have
and education here in the United States
because financially this
is where the money's at.
So he'd go from elementary
school to elementary school
and he never found a home for school.
So he dropped out and he started working
and he started a business
with his compadre
and so now he's a subcontractor
for a recycling company.
My mom was born in Tijuana and moved to
where my grandmother was from,
it's this little peublito in
Nayarit the town of El Rosario.
And they moved back there
when my mom was I think
five or six years old because
her father left the family.
My mom went through so much growing up,
not having a dad.
She had a mom but the mom
was over here tryin to do
what she could to bring her
family to the United States,
and eventually she did.
My mom started school
here in seventh grade,
learned english real quick,
her thing was like man I wanted
I Love Lucy all the time,
and that's how she
learned English you know,
that and really really trying her hardest,
giving it 100%.
She worked for Luckies,
she worked for that company
since she was 16 years old.
She recently retired so
I believe she worked for
42 years for that company.
I mean my mother was a great
mother, there's no complaints,
but there are baseball games
that I wish she attended.
She missed going to
birthday parties with us,
I don't hold that against
her at all because
she was doing what she was
doing to raise our family,
but she did miss a lot.
To me they're successful people.
Both my parents taught me
you have to give it 100%,
you have to know who you are.
You have to know where you came from.
Know your parents' story,
know your grandparents' story,
if you can know your great
grandparents' story even better
but you have to know your roots right.
You have to know who you are,
you have to carry your name with pride.
Everything that you do,
whether it's good or bad,
it's gonna reflect on
us, on your grandparents,
and on your great grandparents.
Straight out of high school I didn't know
that I wanted to become a teacher.
I knew that I wanted to work with teens
and I knew I wanted to help teens,
I just didn't know how.
I had a great connection
with two teachers,
Mr.Gonzales and Mr.Ariajla.
They're like when you're

ready, when you finish college,
you're gonna start subbing for us
and when you finish
your teaching credential
we're gonna hook you up
with a job right here.
I got my teaching credential and you know
(snapping)
so I started subbing and I
wanna say within two weeks
they were like alright
man we're gonna send you
to the district if you want this job,
and I ended up working at the
high school where I graduated.
So I teach high school history
at Southwest High school
in South San Diego.
I teach social sciences which is
in ninth grade you have geography,
10th grade world history,
then you have the U.S. history
and then the seniors get
government and economics,
so I teach all of those classes.
There's a lot of
misconceptions of teachers too.
A lot of people think they're
just there for the paycheck.
It's easy money.
Ah man you're on vacation all the time!
We hear all the negative stuff you know,
but I wish people gave
us more of a chance.
I wish people would visit schools more.
You know I always encourage
my parents man come in!
Come and see how I teach your kids.
I don't wanna just call you
when your kid's in trouble,
I want you to come see how I teach,
I want you to come laugh
with me and my students
because that's part of how I teach.
You know I love cracking jokes,
there's never a dull moment
whether it's me or my students.
It's tough being a teenage!
With all the peer pressure,
with social media,
with all the stuff that's
going on, mental illness,
it's tough being a teen.
You know you see a lot of kids
and it's hard to make
personal connections,
personal relationships with these kids,
which is what I wanted to do
and that's what led me to be a teacher.
If I could have one to one
contact with kids every day
for that whole school year,
then to me I was gonna make
a bigger impact that way.
These kids they go through so much,
I mean they're almost like
your children you know
they come in, you see
their face and I'm like
what's going on Mija
or what's going on Mijo
and they'll just spill
it all out you know.
The hardest part about my job
is not bringing my work home with me.
It can get emotional.
I mean a lot of the times my wife,
she's a kindergarten teacher
and that's what we talk about.
And giving each other advise like
what should I do with this kid?
What should I tell this kid
with what they're going through?
Just because I'm so
attached to these kids.
There's so many different things that
I love about low riding.
It is therapeutic.
You know I can be having a bad day
and my little one, my four year old,
daddy are we gonna cruise the pink Impala?
She thinks every low rider
is an Impala you know,
daddy can we take the
pink Impala to church?
For me that's the beauty,
being able to put my family
in my car, go for a cruise,
listen to some music.
You know my wife and I kinda touch elbows
while we're bumping some
oldies or some old school
and my girls are like in
the back just jamming.
You know I'm like this
is, this is beautiful!
I knew that down the road I
wanted to have a little family.
A lot of the times what I had observed
after college when I started teaching
you know talking to
coworkers, where they live,
they live in the fancier
neighborhoods because to them
they quote unquote made it.
And I was like I think I made it too.
We decided to stay in the
community where I grew up in
for me which is kinda to show people that
you can go to college,
you can have a profession,
and you can still live
in the neighborhood.
I wanna represent my
neighborhood in a positive way.
For me it's tryin to get
people who are successful
to stay in those communities.
I wanna be that rose that stayed there
and built a garden in the concrete.
My name is Juan Manuel Carrio
I'm a high school history teacher,
and I'm a low rider role model.

2019 Chevy Camaro SS: FULL REVIEW + DRIVE | The Camaro Transformed!

2019 Chevy Camaro SS: FULL REVIEW + DRIVE | The Camaro Transformed!

Car Confections:

What's going on everybody?
The Camaro is an American icon
And this generation particularly has been receiving rave reviews since it debuted in
2016 but now it's three years later and Chevy wanted to freshen things up. So it's making a Transformers inspired
transformation
Of course
we wanted to specially thank our friends at Sutherland Chevrolet for providing us with this fully loaded Camaro SS and
If you're in the market for any new Chevy, be sure to pay their dealership a visit or check them out via their website
Which we provided a link to in the video description
So with the Mustang recently gaining some ground over the Camaro sales wise, let's see if this refresh will change the tide
Alright so let's go ahead and address the elephant in the room right off the bat this grille
Now in pictures, I will say that it's less than flattered
But in person it does look much better
Especially when paired with a dark exterior color like this Riverside blue metallic
Non SS models also have a more traditional grille if you want to go that route
But anyways with that out of the way the headlights have also been redesigned
They are now fully LED on all grades of the Camaro and the previous accent light has been expanded to flow into the grille
Below that there is another LED accent and then on top SS models get a special hood bit
There hasn't been any changes to the side but the back did get some subtle refinements
The main thing is that the taillights have been separated again just like they used to be from the 2010 to 2013 models
They of course are fully LED and they have a really neat look with both amber and clear elements
SS models also have the really large spoiler. But thankfully my favorite part has not been changed
And that is the quad stainless-steel exhaust outlets pumping out that wonderful v8 burble
But overall despite some initial
Misgivings, the refresh Camaro is still a nice looking vehicle with a lot of lighting upgrades over last year
Now one of the other SS perks are standard 20-inch wheels
These are the included wheels, but there are at least nine of their options
Ranging from only $200 all the way up to three grand
and
four breaks
13.6 inch for piston bimbos are included up front and
13.3 inch ones in the rear
Moving to the mirrors you have to get this 2SS to have goodies
Like heating auto dimming and blind spot monitoring with rear cross traffic alert
Now we still don't have any other active safety features, but for 2019 we do now have forward collision warning on the 2 SS
Just be aware that Mustang does offer a full active safety package
The last thing to look at is the very generously sized 19 gallon fuel tank
Obviously fuel economy isn't great. But the big tank does still allow you to get 380 miles of range
Chevy does recommend using premium fuel in the v8
So that's it for the redesign exterior, so now let's go ahead and get inside and see what they've done in there
So every Camaro does come standard with Chevy smart entry system
And you will also find a standard remote start system. As long as you choose the automatic transmission. I
Like pretty much all GM vehicles, there's not a sensor behind the handle so you just press this button to unlock
And
Then looking inside the cabin you'll see there's not a great deal of changes for 2019 here definitely a lot less than on the outside
But the cabinet here is already a very very nice place to be now as far as the interior materials and color schemes
They also have not changed for 2019
So your base SS continues to come with black or gray cloth seating and then going out to the 2 SS gets you leather in
black gray
adrenalin red
Kalahari or my personal favorite the ceramic color was very classy looking
And then turning over here to your door trim that same nice look continues over here
So you've got more of that ceramic leather on the armrest here, which looks really good
Although it might be a little bit hard to keep clean
we've got even more leather up here as well as down here and then you've got a real piece of
Aluminum that goes around through here with your accent lighting integrated into it
As far as your windows, there are one touch automatic up and down and you also find two person memory seating on the two SS
As far as the seat it is an eight-way power adjusting but you are lacking lumbar support
And then like I was saying the seats they have a really excellent look and they also feel really high-quality
with nice bolstering nice accent stitching as well as your SS branding and
You can get a Recaro seat if you prefer something a little bit more aggressive
So, like I said at first glance around the cab and you won't notice any big changes from last year
However, there are some little details hidden around the cabin
Now one of the things that has not changed were the materials which were already excellent
So across the top of the dash you do have a heart touch plastic as expected
But once you move down to your lower area, so you've got a leatherette trim with color contrast stitching going
down even further
You've got some more leatherette where you need my touch as well as on the armrest portion and everything does fit together
Really really solidly and feels well built
And standard on all Camaros you do have push-button start
When you turn it on you will see an 8-inch display fire up on all of the SS models
versus the seven-inch display that's standard on your v6 and turbo for
But of course that right there is why you buy a SS
Now another nice benefit of going for the SS is that it comes standard with this
Upgraded gauge cluster with the large 8 inch display in the middle
Now for those of you have been watching this channel for a while
You know that I really like these GM gauges because they have a lot of functions and a lot of customized ability
On the Camaro. It's no different. You've got all the standard functions. Plus you've got this performance tab
This gives you a bunch of different information
Regarding your oil temperature pressure
voltage transmission fluid tire temperature a lot of useful things for performance situations
And then additionally you still get your standard fare options where you can change things like the theme
So you can switch over and go into technology mode. For example
And give a kind of a more high-tech look
To go along with that with that, on the 2SS you're gonna have a heads up this way
Now this also is customizable and adjustable you just press this info tab and switch to your miles
Per hour radio functions navigation and various other things or you can leave it here
Which is the probably the coolest one shows your rpms as well as the G reading so that's pretty cool
And then coming back here to the steering wheel
Thankfully Chevy did not change anything here because this is already a really lovely steering wheel. We've got a nice flat bottom design
contrast
contrasting and perforated leather stitching
And it just feels really really great in the hand
Now as far as your buttons, you've got your cruise control as well as your heating and then on this side
You've got your controls for that display as well as your typical phone and voice commands and below. You've got some radio controls
Back behind the shifter you will find paddle shifters
If you get the automatic transmission, of course and then the wheel itself is manually tilt and telescoping
I know this is not your main concern when you get a muscle-car, but let's talk about the storage
It's actually decent
If you have a pretty large for muscle car center console
So I've got enough space you can fit a phone or something else small
You've got your two USB ports and an aux jack right there
Confirm that you've got your two cupholders
As well as a 12 volt outlet
And then you can maybe put something up here as well. Although it's not really designed to hold anything
So for a muscle car believe it or not this pretty decent
Now, of course we do have the automatic transmission this is optional on the SS
So just like any automatic you pull back to drive and pop over to the left to select your gears manually or via
those paddle shifters
When you go into reverse a backup camera is standard
It does have active trajectory as well. And I think the resolution has been upgraded this year
It looks a little bit nicer than what I remember looking like last year
And then of course there is an electronic parking brake as well
I like you to expect from any good muscle car. You've got a host of different drive modes to select from
Now what it's been in so far during this review has been tour mode
However, you can go down into sport and that immediately even here at Idol you can immediately tell that the engine no changes everything gets
more aggressive
Then you can go into basically a full manual mode where everything is off for track use and
Then you get a snow and ice mode just to kind of help you try to navigate
different situations if you try to use this as a Four Seasons vehicle like some people do
And then this button defeats, of course your traction control
Alright, so now let's talk about the unique climate controls
These are dual zone automatic on the two SS
And of course what's unique about them is you've probably seen on previous Camaro reviews is that you adjust the temperature by twisting around?
the vent and you
Can see that temperature show up right there. I
Really like this, I think it looks excellent
and it's easy to use easy to understand the only drawback I can come up with is that
Say you have it. I had in our really high temperature like I didn't which was high 90 degrees
You kind of have to stick your hand into the belly of the beast
so to speak and burn it up a little bit to make that adjustment, but overall I think is really sleek looking and I
Like it a lot
Now also on the 2 SS you've got three-stage heated seats as well as three stage ventilated seats
Also on the two SS you've got the upgraded audio system
So let's go ahead and take a listen to the Bose 9 speaker sound system
Overall sound quality is excellent, especially for such a small cabin
That brings us to our first
2019 change or the most significant that is
Which is our upgraded Chevy LT man free system. So let's go ahead and take a quick look around this system
As you can see this has got the upgraded graphics as well as the upgrade of processing and everything in the backend
So you've got your homepage. You've also got some shortcuts along to the bottom and a home button as well as physical one below it
Now you can click on any of these sections to expand them
so for instance
We can click on our navigation which is a $500 option as you can see it loads up Chevy's latest navigation
graphic graphic quality here and performance is excellent much improved and this map doesn't even include things like your
Map tilt which is a pretty cool feature
Heading back here to our applications
You've course got your standard audio controls where you can play and pause through your standard bluetooth
As well as your other audio sources and then your presets across the top
And do I want to mention your phone
That's your keypad as well your contacts which are automatically sync over and there are awesome. That's text message support as well
Like every Chevy product you have a standard Wi-Fi hotspot powered by OnStar and
You do have standard Android auto and apple carplay
So you do have the ability to have navigation through Google or Apple Maps without having to pay that extra charge for the integrated navigation
if you don't want to
Now one of the other nice 20:19 changes is that your accent lighting has been upgraded further that already was super customizable
And really nice set up before but now you've got these split blended color rows
so as you can see, you've got your solid colors and
of course that takes the whole strip and make some one color, but if you go into one of these blended modes, so we'll do
this one right here as
you can see now our
Top part of the accent is a different than our bottom part
So it gives it a really unique look and you just have a ton of different options available here to choose from
But anyways, that's pretty much it for the Chevy infotainment system 3
However, we will have a more detailed tech help video available
For those of you who want to learn more a link said that is provided in the video description
Heading on up here to the mirror initially this does look the same as last year. However, it is actually not
Look this switch and you've now got GM's
rear vision camera system
Now you think do I really need this for a car so small since it's typically in trucks and SUVs
But as many of you know, the Camaro struggles with rear visibility and nothing has changed in 2019 in that regard
So the back window is still very small and you can still see very little out of it
So this definitely helps and cuts out all the obstructions
Integrated within this you do also have your home link universal remotes and
Then above it you get your OnStar buttons as well as LED light
This particular model does not have a moonroof. However, it is optional if you want one
But overall the small refinements that Chevy is made for 2019 simply make this an even better place to spend time
this is a cabin that feels everyday livable even though this is a performance vehicle and
Honestly, I just don't have any complaints about it. It's luxurious
It feels pretty spacious and so long as you can get past, you know, compromise visibility and stuff like that
This is definitely a car that you can be comfortable with living with on a day to day basis
Now we'll go ahead and hop outside here and let Mason check out the rest of me
All right, so getting in the back seats of the Camaro is pretty easy
So you just fold this seat back forward and then slide it with the power seat
Now once you do you won't have an entryway into the rear seats
now, of course
These are pretty cramped as with any muscle car and their technical
Measurement comes in at twenty nine point nine inches of legroom and thirty three point four inches of headroom
That does make it pretty much class competitive. Now, you will notice you have to climb over the seat belt. So just pull it down
Then you can climb right in
Now my first impression back here is actually a pretty good one now the seat is scooted all the way forward
So this is obviously more like room than the average adult would have
But I'm actually really comfortable these seats are buckets in the back still made that two-tone beautiful design and they're actually really comfortable
Here in the middle. You have another two-tone black leather here as was a little storage tray
And then off to your right you do have an armrest though. It is not padded
But overall
You don't really expect much out of these rear seats and Headroom is lacking of course and as well as you know
really like room but
This is not really that bad of a place that's really competitive with the class. And I really like that the seats are comfortable
Now to get out just go ahead and fold that up push it forward and climb right up
Getting around to the trunk, all you have to do is locate the button under the lid and it will pop right open
Now inside this is one of the spaces where the Camaro is smaller than the Mustang so you're going to find
9.1 cubic feet for the coupe model dropping down to 7.3 cubic feet for the convertible now
Like I said, that is smaller than the Mustang since it has 13.5 cubic feet
However, this is actually pretty big it goes back quite a ways and it does look pretty deep to me
You could probably fit quite a bit of stuff back here. Maybe a couple weekend backs and
The opening is pretty good-sized
Now, of course the passenger seat is that beautiful design with SS branding
In this model, it is two-ton as well as six-way power adjusting on all SS
I'm really pleasantly surprised with the materials in front the passenger since you do have a leather area up here
close up at a dashboard and
Down below that you do have a good sized glove box opens quite a ways
And above that you do have a Sun Visor with integrated mirror and lights that gently fade in
And it does also detach an extent
Well guys that sums up all the boring stuff
So now let's go ahead and get to the real reason you buy an SS the powertrain
So like we've already talked about this refresh is mostly cosmetic
However, there have been some adjustments to the powertrain still as far as the main part of the powering the engine it is unchanged
So we still have the lt1
6.2 liter v8
putting out
455 horsepower and
455 pound-feet of torque and
That's good for a 0-60 under 4 seconds, which is just about in line with that of the Corvette
What's different this year is that you've got a 10 speed
automatic transmission to replace the 8-speed automatic if you choose to go that route or
You still have the six-speed manual if you want the more purist experience
Now, of course in a vehicle like this fuel economy is not your biggest concern. However, we do have cylinder deactivation on the v8
So you still get a decent 20 mpg combined
Now believe it or not. This car can go up to 25 combined
If you go for the 2 litre 4-cylinder engine and that's really impressive for a performance vehicle
But anyway, so that sums up our basic
Powertrain information. So let's go ahead and go for a quick test drive
Now of course this is not my car
And it's very cold
Out there ice on the road and the tires are very cold. So it's not gonna be like a super exhilarating
burnout drag race
Donut type of test drive but we will get a little taste of just how nice that engine sounds even at low speeds
I mean, that's really why you buy the SS because you're not driving
you know the
Throttle matted all the time actually most the time you're not going to be because this is just a ton of power
So even when you're just driving casually around town
Whatever, it just sounds fantastic and that to me is just the biggest reason to get the SS
So in case you're wondering this is a fun car even a 25
It's just it's really irresistible
To just a goose that throttle listen to that exhaust note and I you would enjoy this at any speed and
Also, I think the notice is that you capture everyone's attention when you're driving down the street in this thing
It's a captivating blue color and all that noise. It's making everybody will be looking at you
Now, of course we're not gonna have any meaningful impressions for you know handling at the edge or whatever
Because this has capability that there's no way I'm gonna be able to test out
But uh
You know, you can't tell of course the steering is excellent very commutative
Super fast right now. We're in the sport mode. That's what I think most owners would want to stay in just to
make sure you get all the entrance note that you can get all the time and
Keeps that steering and throttle response as sharp as possible
And let's play around the manor moer just a little bit before we return it
Wow
Flip that throttle Wow, just excellent I get home. I'm gonna see why anybody would want to home this car
If this is not something you consider at least considered owning, you know, it's not the most practical type of vehicle
But if you drive this thing you start to make excuses for reasons why you should have it
and
And it's not it's not horrible. No you quality
You know just driving down the street if you put it in the touring mode, it doesn't make a lot of noise
but if you can get past the noise which you know a lot of people like
It's really a comfortable car. It doesn't ride too too rough or anything like that. So
Overall I'm very impressed with all those car drives

Chevrolet Bolt EV Traction Motor - Deep Dive

Chevrolet Bolt EV Traction Motor - Deep Dive

WeberAuto:

Hello, I'm professor John Kelly and this
is the Weber Auto YouTube channel.
In this episode we will be disassembling
the drive unit the electric motor and
gear reducer out of our 2017 Chevrolet
bolt on the hoist behind me here. now
this drive unit and electric motor
combination is is all one piece,
unlike the Nissan Leaf that has a drive
unit that unbolts from the electric
motor. This drive unit is rated at 150
kilowatts which is 201 horsepower, it is
also rated at 360 Newton meters of
torque which is roughly 266 foot-pounds
of torque.
Now let's let's talk about torque just a
little bit. That torque rating is what
the motor itself is capable of producing,
that is not the same as the torque that
ends up at the wheels of the vehicle, so
for example the Chevrolet Spark EV
produced by Chevrolet before the Bolt
here
actually had an electric motor that
produced 540 Newton meters of torque, the Bolt EV electric motor only produces
360 Newton meters of torque and so you
might be misled into thinking that the
Spark EV had more torque; well, the motor
did, but not the torque delivered to the
axles that drive the wheels. So the gear
reducer right here on the side of this
drive unit has an impact on that because
gear reduction is also torque
multiplication minus frictional losses, so
the Spark EV had a 540 Newton meter
electric motor but it only had a three
point one five to one gear reduction
unit which resulted in about 1700 Newton
meters of torque at the wheels, at the
axles. the Bolt EV electric motor
produces 360 Newton meters of torque a
whole 180 Newton meters less of torque
from the motor, but it has a seven point
zero five one eight to one gear
reduction through this gear reducer
which multiplies that 360 Newton meters
of torque by seven point zero five one
eight, which gives us over 2,500 Newton
meters of torque at the axles. So there
are other electric vehicles out there
that are being produced right now that
have higher torque higher motor torque
than the Bolt EV
but what would be interesting, I and
I don't know what their gear ratios are
yet, is to see what is the torque
actually to the axles what's the torque
to the ground because that's what you'll
feel when you step on that accelerator
pedal, that's the torque to the wheels
that makes the vehicle move. The design
of this drive unit this electric motor
it has a peak amperage draw of 400 amps
versus 450 as for the Spark EV so it
uses less current to provide more torque
so it's a more efficient better design
electric motor. The electric motor in
this drive unit spins clear up to 8810 rpm where the
Spark EV only spun up to about 4500 rpm,
and we'll take a look at some
differences in the electric motor design
and the stator winding design that
allowed it to spin at those higher rpms
without the AC losses that typically
occur at higher rpm. As mentioned in the
previous video on high voltage
components of the Chevrolet Bolt EV this
drive unit uses about 2.9 litres, around
3.1 quarts of Dexron HP fully synthetic
base transmission fluid automatic
transmission fluid. It also is cooled by
the General Motors Dexcool 50/50 mix
of coolant and deionized water. Okay
let's take a look at the outside of the
housing here of this drive unit. The
official name or designation of this
drive unit by General Motors is the
1ET25. The one means it's a one speed
trans axle, this doesn't shift, E means
it's electronically controlled, T means
it's a transaxle, and the 25 is a
relative torque rating. Alright, right
here on the front of the transmission is
the actual last eight digits of the
vehicle identification number and you
can see that MMF right there, that is
the three-digit regular production
option code the RPO code that you can
find on label in the back of the Bolt EV if
you take out the lower compartment
carpet and look in what looks like a
spare tire tub, there's a label on the
driver's side that has a whole bunch of
three digit codes on it
MMF just means that's which transaxle
or transmission this vehicle came with.
Okay right here on the top of the trans
axle is the transmission range selector
actuator and this is a brushless DC
motor with a gear reducer that actually
moves the shift lever to put us in to
Park reverse neutral Drive and low, now
technically inside of this drive unit it
there's really only park and not park,
but there is a position sensor in here
called an internal mode switch that will
monitor which position the transaxle
range selector is in so that the vehicle
can act appropriately. For example the
shifter itself on the center console is
not directly connected to the drive unit,
it's just an input to the computer that
controls this actuator, so when we go to
the reverse position for the neutral or
drive or low, there's a feedback on the
internal mode switch electrical
connector right here, that lets the
engine control module, even though this
doesn't have an engine, know which gear
range you have selected so that it can
request the trends axle act
appropriately. Also, right here by the

electrical connector for the internal
mode switch is the transmission fill
plug, so if you want to put fluid into
this transmission you need a 14
millimeter wrench or socket to take this
plug out and put the Dexron HP fluid
into the transmission. There are two
drain plugs on this transmission, one for
each side, so there's one down below on
each end of the transaxle the driver's
side and the passenger side, there's
there are two separate drain plugs to
get the fluid out of each side, now
there's only one fluid that goes
throughout this entire transaxle but
because of how its baffled and set up
inside to remove all the fluid you need
to remove both plugs.
Now speaking of fluid and fluid level
when you drain fluid at whatever the
recommended fluid change interval is or
if you're doing service work on the
transaxle here and you're adding fluid
you need to know when to stop adding
fluid, so on the other side of the
transaxle right here is the transaxle
fluid level check plug, so the drain
plugs right down here, the fluid level
check plugs here, the fill plug is on the
other side so you take the fill plug out
you take the fluid level check plug out,
and you add fluid until fluid comes out
over here, and then you let it sit and
stabilize for a minute add a little bit
more and make sure that fluid comes out
comes out to a slow drip, and then the
instructions tell us to put both plugs
back in and go drive the vehicle until
the transmission fluid temperature
reaches 35 degrees Celsius or 95 degrees
Fahrenheit and then double-check the
fluid level again to make sure that
comes out at a very slow drip. Alright,
while we are here on this side of the
transaxle we have an electric motor an
electric pump for the transmission fluid
so there's a big filter we'll see when
we take this thing apart down the bottom
center of this transaxle it will pull
fluid up from the filter and then put it
into what's called the oil sump so the
oil sump is basically just a great big
bathtub looking area up here that the
pump fills full of fluid and then there
are these little drain channels that
fluid drains down to cool the stator
windings and lubricate bearings and so
on and we'll see that once we get the
cover off so we have an electric 12 to 14
volt driven electric motor that pumps
fluid throughout this transaxle. From
what I read this pump only works when
you are in Reverse or Drive, it does not
pump when you're in park or neutral.
Alright, we have another electrical
connector right here, this connector is
for the resolver which measures the
angle of rotation the direction of
rotation and the speed of the electric
motor rotor itself, and then there's a
transmission fluid temperature sensor
that is in the bottom of this
transmission case cover here. All of
those are accessed electrically through
this electrical connector right here. As
you may have seen in my other video on
high-voltage components we have the air
conditioning compressor of the bolts up
here and then we have our coolant pipes
that go into what's called a coolant
sump in the bottom of this transaxle and
we'll see that here in a few minutes but
we have coolant going in coolant coming
back out and goes through a series of
cooling fins and cooling circuits to
absorb heat from the transmission fluid
right here on the back we have the
electrical connection for the
three-phase cables that come from the
the
single power inverter module that sits
two modules above here. Three-phase
orange cables come down to drive the
electric motor, there's a cover
the cables bolt on and then there's a
cover they'll holds the cable in place.
We have a transmission vent right here,
let's just take that vent off while we
vent tube off while we're here now you
can see the oil sump area again on the
top and the cooling sump coolant sump
area here in the bottom all right there
is one additional plug on the side of
the case with the electric motor and
there's nothing in the service
information to indicate this but I
believe this is a pressure test plug to
check the pump output pressure, but I
can't find any information on what that
fluid pressure should be. Okay, I'm going
to be disassembling this transaxle right
here on the workbench but there actually
is a special fixture to hold this
transaxle and allow you to rotate it and
disassemble different pieces of it and
still be able to rotate it for
convenience. I have this special adapter
as you can see here in this photograph
but the way it's mounted it's too high
and too difficult for me to disassemble
in that holding fixture being in a
wheelchair, so the workbench is where I'm
going to disassemble it, but I wanted you
to know there is a special fixture for
that and I tried it it just doesn't work
for me.
by the way this transaxle weighs about a
hundred and seventy pounds or 77.4
kilograms. Okay, well we're ready to
start disassembly, the first step is to
remove this oil pump the 12-volt power
oil pump, it has three bolts right here
and a few seals underneath it as you can
see here there are two seals that seal
the pump to the transmission case right
here there are two bolts that hold the
cover over the pump gears themselves
there are no instructions on
disassembling this so I assume we're not
supposed to disassemble it but that's
exactly what I like to do
take things apart I'm not supposed to as
long as I can get them back together and
make it work again here we go we've got
a Jew rotor style oil pump there's an
o-ring right here that needs to fit in
this groove to seal and then the cover
just bolts on okay the next thing on the
list is to remove the left-hand and
right-hand output shafts that go into
our differential side gears in the gear
reducer this is the left-hand side right
hand side over there it calls for a
slide hammer and a old pilot bearing
removal tool for a manual transmission
so this is the pilot bearing removal
tool right here and a slide hammer and
we are supposed to put this up inside
and put it into the snap ring groove for
the CV shaft and then pop it out well
come to find out the snap ring groove is
thinner than the tip of this tool that's
supposed to go into it and I didn't
realize that's what the problem was and
I had a hard time getting these output
shafts removed I finally got him out but
once I got a mound got looking at the
tool versus what they were supposed to
be grabbing I realized I need to grind
these down make him a little thinner so
that they'll actually fit into the
grooves of the her for these CV shaft
snap rings that are there so since I've
had this entire transaxle apart before
and I'll put it all back together
I've removed those snap rings they'll
hold these output shafts in place so I
can just pull them out by hand right now
this big long left hand output shaft
goes right through the center of the
rotor of the electric motor itself it's
it's hollow in the middle
and it has a big heavy-duty bushing
right here on the outside with the axle
seal and this is our left-hand output
shaft and then the CV shaft itself plugs
into here that goes to the left front
hub and bearing assembly and tire and
we'll assembly so there's our left-hand
axle shaft there's a snap ring that fits
in that groove right there typically and
I've just removed and I've just removed
that snap ring for ease for this
demonstration here obviously I'll need
to put that back in when I reassemble
so that's the left-hand axle shaft on
the other side we use the slide hammer
again and pull out the right hand axle
shaft as you can see this one is much
shorter than the other one and it has
the support bearing in the differential
case itself that holds it in place and
its own snap ring that I've already
removed and of course an axle sill here
on the other side as well okay the next
thing on the list is to remove this
transaxle case to remove the case I've
got to take the linkage off and our
actuator off and then we've got these
bolts to go all the way around and then
we'll be able to see the gear reduction
transfer gear and the final drive ring
gear and differential gear set so I'll
take the clip out and lift up for a
linkage on the shift actuator and then
take the bolts out
okay here's the shift actuator assembly
itself transmission range selector
actuator kind of a great big piece I
I've seen some of these that are smaller
right I'm not sure why this one is so
giant I'm not I've never seen one this
big but it obviously does the job of
mechanically shifting the transmission
range lever since you have an electronic
shifter on your center console alright
let's take these bolts out of the trans
transmission case okay I've got all the
bolts out of the transmission case now
we can attempt to slide it off it has a
couple of dowel pins they'll hold it in
place there's a couple of pry points
plus one right back here and another one
right here there we go
I'm going to come in with a plastic
mallet here and just tap lightly there
we go okay we can see inside of the
transmission case itself and the only
things in here of real interest are the
transmission internal mode switch right
here we got the electrical connector
right here harness right there that
connects to this outer blue connection
connector that will read which Range
Park reverse neutral low you have
selected with your transmission shift
lever and then we have the parking
linkage right here we've got Park
reverse neutral Drive
and low now of course normally
transmission fluid would would be
pouring out of here of whatever didn't
get drained out when you drained it
previously but I've had this apart and
cleaned everything up before we have our
ring gear right here and our
differential gear set and as notice we
have real nice ball bearings here these
bearings since their ball bearings
instead of tapered roller bearings have
to have in place shims so there's a
special shimming procedure to control
the end play of these bearings that will
have to go through when we reassemble it
so you're supposed to take these shims
off and throw them away well and then
replace them with new new ones when you
go back together I suggest that you take
them off and measure them and then hang
on to them because you might you might
need them again when I took these off
previously and measured them they were
almost all identical in the thickness so
there are six of these shims for the six
ball bearings that are in this transaxle
four of these shims measured exactly
half a millimeter in in with the other
two one of a measure one millimeter in
width and the other one measured 0.9
millimeters so you need to keep track of
what thickness shim you had where and
write those down so that you you'll have
an idea of at least what it was before
you took it apart now if you're just
going back together and you haven't
changed any shims or any parts inside
just reuse the old shims but if you're
changing a bearing or any of these
internal pieces you need to go through
the special measurement procedure that
we'll see when we go back together to
determine if these shims are correct
okay so there's there's special shims on
each of these
bearings I've measured all of them RIT
written their dimensions on the ziploc
bag here that I keep them in and will
refer to those when we go back together
all right now we just need to remove the
counter gear right here and the final
drive a ring gear and differential gear
set this is where our short little
output shaft plugged in right here and
then our long one came all the way
through on the other side okay before we
remove these gears there is a an
aluminum gasket with a rubber seal
embedded into it the instructions tell
us that is not reusable
there is also an oil baffle right down
here to channel transmission fluid away
from the ring gear to reduce losses as
it rotates into it and to splash oil up
into different channels to lubricate the
the bearings if we look in this case
half right here you can almost see what
looks like a funnel right there for the
fluid to drain back down and lubricate
this outer bearing and a similar one
here on this other other side for that
bearing so we've got a oil baffle to
remove all right I've got the oil baffle
removed on the other side of that is our
magnet for metallic particles from gear
normal gear wear and other malfunctions
okay now we're ready ready to remove
these gears pull out on the counter gear
and then pull out on the final drive and
it'll come right out if you don't pull
out on that counter gear first there's
not enough clearance for the final drive
Unit two clear so here's our final drive
you can see our open differential gear
set inside there here's our sim on the
other side as well
all right the instructions tell us that
we can if we won't want to remove the
park linkage in the internal notes which
I don't really care about that that's
just regular stuff that you'd see in any
other automatic transmission so let's
continue on with things that are unique
to the bolt
evie drive unit here the one ET 25
transaxle so let's turn the transmission
case around and we'll take off the
transmission case cover here on the
driver's side
now the SAE document the details the the
bolt evey drive unit here that I told
you about in the high voltage component
video tells us that the drive unit
itself was designed to be serviceable in
the vehicle that's why they have a case
removable case cover on one side and a
case cover on the other side for the
gear reduction unit you can leave this
Center portion with the electric motor
in it in the vehicle and just remove one
or both case covers to do service work
on components inside the case covers
seal replacements resolver replacements
internal modes with replacement and so
on but anyway we're going to take off
this case
cover next from the driver's side all
right this case cover is going to be a
little harder to get off than the other
one because the rotor that has internal
magnets embedded inside of it has now
magnetically pulled itself over to the
stator because we are no longer
centering it inside of the stator itself
and so it puts a it pulls it off to the
side just a little bit so there's a
prying
right here
and there's a pride point right down
here another prior point right here
there we go okay so here's our case
cover and it has an aluminum gasket
that's not reusable as well our case
cover has this long transmission filter
that's not serviceable without
disassembling things as you can see has
a temperature sensor down inside of it
right there and then this is our
resolver our serviceable resolver that
measures the position speed and
direction of rotation of the electric
motor rotor inside the transaxle here
let's turn this around oh by the way
down inside of the bearing housing there
is a shim for the ball bearing right
here on the rotor itself so we're
looking at the stator and the hairpin
six conductor deep stator design a
unique design we'll talk about that a
little bit more once we get the stator
out we have a lubrication channel right
here where fluid is going to drip out of
our oil sump and run along and drop down
on to the stator windings themselves and
cool the the stator windings it also has
a drip channel that comes over and goes
down to this bearing here to lubricate
it
so we've just got an 8 millimeter head
bolt holding the filter in place and as
you can see the filter just has an
o-ring seal on the one side and you can
see the pick up filter screen filter
element on the inside so this is going
to reach all the way in up underneath
the the stator itself to pick up the
fluid on the back side of it and on the
back side of it is the inlet of the
coolant so that would be the cooler oil
on the back side there all right then on
the resolver it just has eight three
eight millimeter head bolts to hold it
in place and one electrical connector
this resolver only bolts in in one
location it's not adjustable it has
automatic learn unlike the older Toyota
Prius resolvers that that would actually
come out of alignment
if you unbolted them and there was no
way for you to line them back up okay so
here is our resolver pull back on the
connector position assurance clip
depress the tab and remove the resolver
itself the resolver is a serviceable
unit when and if it ever goes bad but it
should should never go bad all right
then the remaining wire harness and the
pass-through connector here just goes
over to our temperature sensor okay next
on the list we need to remove what is
called the center support this is what's
supported the driver's side ball bearing
of our differential case assembly
okay this is our center support it's
held in place with six bolts and aligned
with two dowel pins right there now with
that removed there's nothing to stop our
transfer gear from sliding out it's just
a tight fit on the bearing in the bore
as it should be just pray lightly
sometimes these will just slide right
out and right in and other times they'll
they'll fight you here we go okay so
here's our transfer gear it's ball
bearing and shim so put that shit over
here with the others okay right here in
the end of the case we still have a
lubrication channel right here from the
oil trough the oil sump I mean right
there and then we have a cover for the
three-phase electrical connector right
here as well then on the other side we
have that oil distribution channel right
here that cools the stator so we've got
to remove that we are now to the point
where we are ready to pull this rotor
out but we just can't grab on to it and
pull it out it has some super strong
neodymium magnets multiple layers envy
configuration inside of this stator
you're not going to pull it out by hand
and you sure don't want to come in here
and start prying on it so the only way
to get that rotor out of there if you
want to remove it for service replace a
bit bearing on it or the gear on the
other side or another bearing or just
replace the rotor itself for whatever
reason loss of magnetism and trouble
code sets or whatever
it takes a special tool to pull it out
without having it rub on the stator
frame itself and without having it
injure you with you trying to pull it
out and it's pulling back in with all
its magnetic strength so true get that
out there's a special guide tool that
will hold it centered in the stator and
we need to set that up next and it
starts on the other side here so there's
a special tool kit that costs almost a
thousand dollars to Center this rotor as
you pull it out I found one on eBay for
a little bit less than that but but it's
a very expensive tool but if you want to
do service work on this transaxle you've
got to have it so let's bring in the
special tools okay so I brought in the
special tools to keep the rotor centered
there's a special spacer with a notch in
it to clear that notch right there this
is just gonna fit in there just like
that then there's a plate that bolts on
over the top of this to hold it in place
these don't need to be super tight
they're just holding that little spacer
in place so I'll just lightly Snug those
up then there's a sleeve here that's
supposed to fit down the center of that
rotor but these sleeves are a little bit
too big I've had to take sandpaper and
send them down to make them fit inside
of this rotor and I don't know if that's
because the tools were made for a first
design rotor and then they changed it or
if they just made the tools incorrectly
but these tools are from what used to be
can't more tools the special tools
supplier for General Motors it's now
Bosch service solutions so Bosch you may
want to take a look at this this tool
here the DT five two zero one one
- one - three because it doesn't fit
it's not doesn't Center up inside the
the rotor as well as it should
i've had to sand it down just a little
bit and then i'm able to tap it in a
little bit there but I think that it's
supposed to be if it's supposed to be a
tight fit but it should be able to slide
in by hand I believe then we have a
guide pin that's going to go through the
center of that then we have this outer
housing the bolts in place to hold the
guide pin in place so the blue sleeve
this one here because there's one for
the other side also centers the rotor
into this plate and then this sleeve is
centered into this plate so we've now
centered the rotor on this side of the
stator so now we need to go to the other
side to put additional tools in to get
it centered and then pull it up and out
okay at this point if I had the
transaxle mounted in that special
rotating holding fixture I would just
simply rotate it on its side and get the
get the rest of the tools hooked up but
I don't I'm not able to use that so I'm
just going to put some extra long bolts
in this side of the case to hold the
case up off of this tool when I tip it
over to support it as we pull the rotor
out
okay so here we go we're going to tip
the tip the whole thing up on its hand
just like that so now we've got
clearance for the tool underneath and we
can get the upper tools set up to pull
the rotor up and out all right while
we've got the transaxle tipped on its
side let's take this oil sump cover off
and show you what's inside of there so
it's just a big empty trough and you can
see has one two three four five six
holes in it where fluid is going to go
out and drip down on other parts inside
of the transaxle for stator cooling and
for the ball bearing lubrication the
cover itself has that same aluminum
gasket that's not reusable also while we
have this transaxle on its end let's
turn it over and take the coolant sump
off next okay here's our coolant sump
you can see this pipe right here is
where the coolant comes in and it has to
wind back and forth back and forth and
then come back out over here the coolant
sump which is visible from the bottom of
the car with the under car cover removed
also has that same aluminum gasket
that's not not reusable why are they not
reusable I don't know maybe the aluminum
crushes these I'm going to see if I can
buy replacement gaskets at the local
Chevrolet dealer it seems like I saw a
service bulletin saying that all these
parts are serviceable now and it gave
the part numbers for them but if not
none of these are damaged it only has 35
miles on it and I'll reuse them and see
what happens
okay so coolant sump oil sump so now we
are ready to pull out the rotor assembly
so to pull out the rotor assembly we
have a guide pin it's going to come in
and screw into that dowel they had a
threaded end on it all right so this
threaded guide pin did not line up
exactly perfect with the guide pin down
below I can't tell if we're just
spinning the whole thing there we go
all right it's screwed all the way into
that alignment dowel from below now we
have this tool that has three holes that
go over the holes where the stator bolts
are so we need to remove the stator
bolts next these stator bolts are not
reusable three stator bolts so we put
this tool over the top of that we want
to be very careful that we don't damage
pry lean or set anything on the stator
windings here that could cause damage to
them so we'll get that lined up just
like that now I'm going to reposition
the camera so you can see
how tall this next tool is that fits on
here all right we have two clamshell
type tools that are going to come in and
clamp down over the resolver cam rotor
there and this bearing they're gonna go
just like that except I need to split
them apart so I can get the next tool in
it says this big tall piece right here
that's going to go over and down into
our stator bolt holes so we've got this
threaded shaft we've got this adapter
right here that these little clamshell
tools are going to hook into and then
the threaded shaft with a nut on the top
of it we're going to tighten that nut
and pull the rotor up out okay so the
tricky part of giving this hooked up is
getting both of these
clamshell tools over this lip right here
so I have to loosen the nut on the top
and let it come down let me turn this
you can see what's going on
there we go okay so we slide that open
clamp the clamshells around it put this
sleeve over the top of it to lock the
clamshell in place snug up this nut to
hold the lock in place and then from the
top here we start to pull up on the
rotor itself I'm going to get
repositioned bring my chair up a little
higher here so I can reach that nut it
takes quite a bit of turning to pull
that out okay here we go thirty
millimeter wrench we want to turn the
nut and prevent the shaft from turning
so I'm just going to hang on down here
as it comes up those guide pins the
guide dowels keep it from rubbing on the
stator frame although although there's
almost a strange ratcheting sound as I'm
pulling this out that makes me think
it's barely contacting the the stator
laminations or the rotor laminations
anyway we'll pull it out and take a look
see if we can see any witness marks you
can see the top of the rotor now is
starting to appear
I think we're finally clearing the top
of the yes we are it all of a sudden got
real easy to turn the nut so we no
longer have the magnet pulling out or
resisting us pulling out okay you can
see the entire length of the rotor here
get another bearing down below it and a
gear below that now we're supposed to
just lift up on this and and pull it out
I'm not sure if I'm strong enough I may
have to bring in the the engine hoist to
pull it out of here but it's just
sitting on these three non-magnetic
aluminum poles here and we've got the
weight of the the rotor assembly itself
I measured it earlier but I can't
remember what it is at this moment but
let's see if we can lift this up and out
though I cannot so let me get the engine
hoist we have to lift it up high enough
to clear that alignment dowel so I've
got to lift it up probably four more
inches 100 millimeters or so okay I've
never tried this before it's just a lift
strap let's bring it up
okay the lifting or the tool was getting
stuck in one of the holes for the the
stator bolts there we go
okay here we go
and we've cleared the alignment dowel so
slide the case out of the way here and
we'll let that back down
oh let's see how much that weighs it
says it weighs 60 pounds with the tool
the tools probably 10 pounds of that
okay we have to remember that this rotor
is highly magnetic very strong eight
pole magnetic field around this thing
and so we need to keep it away from
anything any metal particles or any
tools or anything else that could cost
cause it to receive damage on its
laminations here in looking at the the
laminations from removing it I don't see
any obvious damage at all there let's
let this down and take the the tool off
and just look at the rotor itself
little clamshell pieces out of there
these tools are magnet earth iron some
some sorts so we got to keep those away
from the magnetic field as you can see
these blue bars are aluminum they're not
sticking to the the rotor itself and
then plastic of course works great with
the magnetic fields so now we've just
got our rotor we've got our drive gear
down here I've got a ball bearing and
another ball bearing there's another
shim down inside the case a bigger
diameter shim for this bigger diameter
bearing all right I'm going to get some
wooden blocks to put this in all right
here's the rotor for the bolt
evie as you can see this bearing seems
to have some sort of a gray coating on
the outer race where this one does not
and on the counter gear bearings they
also have this gray coating it doesn't
say anything about what that gray
coating is for I suspect it's to prevent
corrosion from the dissimilar metals
with possible induced currents going
through them with the the motor running
vehicle going down the road I've seen
this type of coating on universal joints
in universal joint caps universal joint
caps bearing caps in an aluminum
driveshaft the same color I don't know
if it's the same material but if any of
you know what this coating is for if
you'd please put that in the comments
below I'd appreciate that
I'm just speculating okay so we've got
the rotor out of the way this is a
serviceable piece now the last piece to
remove is the stator assembly itself and
it has three special guide pins that go
into the stator bolt holes and screw
into the transaxle case and then they're
tapered on the top here and that's to
allow you to slide the stator out
without it binding inside so I'll slide
that over there rotate it down and just
pull out slightly
here it comes just like that so here's
the stator for the Chevrolet bolt Eevee
if we zoom in close and look at the
stator windings you can actually see
there are 1 2 3 rows of these hairpin
conductors which means they are 6
conductors deep in this stator and from
what I read in the SAE document on this
new improved motor that helps reduce the
AC power losses at the higher motor rpm
a typical stator like in the previous
Chevrolet Volt had 2 rows instead of 3
so they were four conductors deep in the
Chevrolet Volts and six conductors deep
here and one of the people that was on
the original design team for the
Chevrolet Volt told me that when they
designed this electric motor and it's
designed for maximum efficiency and hand
power that there was no other motor out
there that could even match the
efficiency of this motor and they said
that they designed this motor to be the
next small-block Chevrolet so to say of
power trains so the small-block
Chevrolet was and still is a very
popular very powerful v8 engine and has
been for many many years and their
intent was to have this motor design
maybe even this drive unit be in
multiple platforms with the same high
power high efficiency motor system if we
look at the other side here of the
stator windings you can see the the
other end of the hairpin conductors and
then there's a drip channel right here
for oil to come out of that oil sump and
to drip down and go down and lubricate
the stator windings because these get
really hot this is the heat source
inside of the transmission and it and
although it gets hot it doesn't get as
hot as the fluid
although the fluid gets hot it doesn't
get hot as a normal planetary gearset
style automatic transmission and the
cooling system surge tank reservoir cap
was only pressurized to 5 psi for this
loop of the cooling system so much lower
amounts of heat compared to an internal
combustion engine with a torque
converter heat generating planetary
gearset style of automatic transmission
now just a couple of things to get
wrapped up with this disassembly video
because we will reassemble it showing
the special measurements for the shims
and everything when we go back together
but one thing I wanted to show you about
these electric vehicles is how simple
they are and when I mean when I say
simple I don't mean simple design
meaning it was easy to design these
simplicity is not necessarily easy but
if we look at the number of rotating
parts in this entire drive unit
there are basically three main rotating
parts we've got the rotor assembly that
then turns the counter gear right here
that then turns the final drive three
pieces no clutch packs no bands and no
sprags no roller clutches no Pistons
none of those hundreds of parts that you
would see in a typical automatic
transmission let alone the internal
combustion engine that this is replacing
of course there are three main moving
parts these pieces here but each one has
two bearings on it so there's six more
pieces so there's nine total and then
inside of the differential here we have
two side gears and two differential
pinion gears so that makes for a total
of 13 possible moving parts inside the
of this drive unit and only when you're
turning corners would the side gears in
the differentials
be rotating at a different speed than
the differential case so a real basic
very reliable system these electric
vehicles and and this one is is very
efficient and that the design is very
compact to where this left-hand output
shaft remember goes right through the
center of the rotor instead of being
offset like on the the Nissan Leaf and
other electric vehicles out there so
congratulations to Chevrolet and the
design team that came up with this
amazing and efficient and simplistic
evie drive unit and I think it's
absolutely beautiful so coming up I hope
to shoot a reassembly video with all the
measurements for this drive unit and
then we've got all of these parts out
the drive unit all of the electronics
and our and our Chevy bolt back here on
the hoist is totally empty yeah under
the under the hood so we've got to put
that all back together and and make it
work again even the battery is out the
whole thing is stripped as far as the
powertrain is concerned and we're gonna
put that back together and and make it
work and hopefully get it converted to a
DC fast charge thank you for watching

2019 Chevy Blazer: FULL REVIEW + DRIVE | Introducing the Camaro Crossover!

2019 Chevy Blazer: FULL REVIEW + DRIVE | Introducing the Camaro Crossover!

Car Confections:

What's going on YouTube! with so many crossovers pouring into the market it's really hard to make an impression today
But that's something the Blazer has definitely managed to do
Its rivals are already some of the most stylish SUVs on the market
but Chevy has gone a step further here and has resurrected the Blazer into something of a practical Camaro and
That's an intriguing concept which is why we're happy to be checking out this fully loaded blazer premier today at Sutherland Chevrolet
Special thanks to them for giving us access to this vehicle
And if you're the market for any new Chevy
Be sure to stop by their dealership or visit them on their website, which we provided a link to in the video description. So
Is this a Camaro on stilts, let's find out
So starting off here on the outside it certainly seems like the answer is yes
this is a very
provocatively styled crossover with a large grill dominating the front as
Far as all the trims. It is different between them
So on this premier, we have the extra chrome as well as a gray piece at the bottom
Compared to the lower trims which have a matte black finish
The one exception to that is the sporty RS which blacks everything out for the full Camaro. Look
But what stands out the most is the way the headlights are designed
This is a very similar setup to how the rival SantaFe does them
which is that you have a thin and aggressive LED daytime running light across the top but
Then the actual headlight is located down in a separate housing towards the bottom on the Blazer
This light is always hid and you will not find any fog lights
Moving to the side the Blazer sets between the equinox and Traverse size-wise though. It is much closer to that of the equinox
however, it doesn't look like either of them since it's got a coupe light stance with a sloped roof and a really high beltline and
Then around back. It's definitely got a more aggressive stance than the vehicles it competes against in
A nod to Camaro. The taillights are designed to have two sections each one kind of looking like an era and
Then dropping down to the bottom every blazer will come with dual exhaust but the shape of the outlet will vary by trend
But overall the Blazer really stands out in this increasingly crowded segment
This isn't just another CUV with cookie-cutter looks this is something that people will notice when it rolls down the street
Now another one of the eye-catching elements are these huge 21 inch wheels
These are available as an option on the premier and there is also a fully black 21 available on the RS as well
Both of those trims would normally come with 20 inch alloys and then as far as your other three trims, they have 18 inch alloys
Coming up to the mirrors
They are always body color powered adjusting and heated
plus you'll find blind spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert on all with the base L trim and
On the topic of safety systems like most GM vehicles. They are mostly reserved for the upper trims
Only the RS and premier have the option to add front emergency braking with pedestrian detection
Lane Keeping Assist
advanced adaptive cruise control and auto high beam headlights
It is worth noting that these are features that many of the rivals include even on the base trims and
Then the last thing to look at on the outside is the fuel tank
Which is either 19.4 or 21.7 gallons for front or all-wheel drive models respectively
Now I'll go through every possible combination. But this specific model can travel
456 miles on a tank of fuel and both engines do run on regular unleaded
But anyways, that's it for the resurrection Blazers aggressive exterior, so now let's see if the cabin is just as bold
So right off the bat the Blazer has a leg up on most of the
Competition and that's because it gives you both standard smart entry and remote start across all of the shrimps
And to get inside the vehicle itself like all GM vehicles, there is no sensor behind the handle so you just press the button
All right, so checking out the interior of the all-new blazer
And you can see it right off the bat it definitely carries that Camaro influence from the outside into the interior as well
Now as far as the actual materials and colors, there are a lot of different choices
So on your L through to LT
You're gonna have cloth seating and then the rest of the trims will have leather though
It is worth noting that on the RS. There is a cloth insert in the middle
And then as far as the colors are concerned most of your trims, you're just choosing between jet black or gray on
The RS is jet black only but with some red accents and then on this premier
You do get a maple sugar color option though. We have stuck with the jet black as you can tell
Now turning over here to the door trim that is very upscale
You do have a nice leatherette
Across the all the armrest and up the handle here as well as above it now. The top part is hard touch though
You got a black trim through here. And then on the premier, you will find two person memory seating
Coming down to the windows, they are OneTouch Auto down for all four of them, but only auto up on the drivers
Now checking out the seat here
It is 8-way power adjusting on all that the very base L model and you do have two-way lumbar support as well
And then like I was saying on the premiere you do have real leather
It has a nice high-quality feel to it as well as a really attractive
Stitching and piping design with the contrast as well as the special pattern, which you'll see repeated throughout the cabin
So like I was saying right off the bat you can really tell the Camaro influence in here
However, I will say that the material selection is nicer than the Camaro
Down the extreme upper part of the dash it is hard touch
However, you got this layer of leatherette with some nice stitching that runs across all this area
That same material can continues down here and you have some more stitching as well as that pattern. I was mentioning earlier
this material travels across the center part and then down below you even got a nice leather padded area for you to rest against
And then overall the materials do fit together really nicely
Now across all Blazers you do have push-button start
And when you press it, you will also find this 8 inch display standard on even the base model
Now looking over here at your gauges these however are not standard these are just reserved for your RS and premier trims
as you can see
We've got the 8 inch reconfigurable display the other shrimps come with a smaller 4.2 inch display
This continues to be one of the better reconfigurable displays on the industry because you have so many different options
Including the ability to actually change your entire theme
So you can go into that touring mode as you can see that switches up everything to a kind of a more wild design
So basically you can just modify things to whatever matches your taste. now coming
back to the steering wheel
Of course
you do have electric power steering and
One really nice feature is that you will find a leather wrapped steering wheel on every model including the models with the cloth seating
Now up here we've got our buttons for our cruise control as well as the heated steering wheel that comes on RS and premiere
Then on this side you got your buttons for your display as well as your traditional phone and voice controls
As far as the wheel itself it is power adjusting here on the premier only
Now moving on to the storage component
I am happy to report that even though it looks like the Camaro it definitely has more storage than the Camaro
So starting off over here with your center console
As you can see it is very deep
About a foot deep and you do have a nice little pad down at the bottom
Additionally, you will find a regular and type-c USB port as well as a 12-volt outlet inside of here
Then up in front of that, we've got another little cubby two cupholders and
In this big blank area here great for sticking your phone
And as you can see, it is also a wireless phone charger on the premier trim
Additionally above that are two more USB ports
The Chevy has been able to provide you with all that space
While still sticking with a traditional shifter instead of the electronic one that's on some of this models platform mates
For this of course is very easy to use you. Just pull back for Drive
you can go into a low mode and you do also have manual shifting ability via these toggles and
Then shifting into reverse you will find a standard backup camera across all of the trims
However, our model has the optional surround view
360-degree camera
Now this is available as an option on the 3LT, RS and premiere now
This is one of the best 360 cameras in the business
Not only because you have so many different views to choose from but also because of the resolution
This is excellent resolution as you can see it's super clear
And it's better honestly than some of the other GM vehicles like the Tahoe for example
It's definitely the newer generation of the 360 camera
This model does also have an electronic parking brake it's actually located over here
As far as what's behind the shifter though, you do have a button to turn off your parking sensors
but your land Keeping Assist and then you have your controls for on this model the
torque vectoring twin clutch all-wheel drive system
But moving up to what is probably the most signature part of the Camaros interior design you've got the exact same climate controls
So like it says straight off the Camaro
You've got the two giant low mounted vents and then you just twist around
To adjust the temperature which does appear there as well as under the display
Above that you got physical controls for your zones
As well as AC functions and then below that you've got your fan
So I do appreciate that it both looks good and is also a highly functional
Attorney over here to your seating controls, you will find three-stage heated seats on your 3 LT and up
However, our model also has three stage ventilation that's reserved for only the premiere
All righty, so now that brings us up to our audio system on the premiere
We've got an 8 speaker Bose premium sound system and this is the only trim to get that
Sound quality of this system is very good
Anyhow that brings us up here to our Chevy infotainment 3 system, so let's go ahead and take a quick look
Alright, so I'll just go through the system highlights here real fast
Of course the infotainment 3 is the newest Chevy infotainment system
It's very speedy and it's easy to use
Right here. You get your home screen
With various things like your audio phone navigation, you can click straight into that stuff
While we're in the navigation
I will go ahead and mention this is standard on the premier only though it is
Available as an option on the RS and 3 LT
As you can see this is really responsive very detailed
graphics and you can't even do things like your
Tilt to zoom kind of like Google Maps, so that's pretty nice
Coming back to the home screen. You can swipe over see all of your applications
so you have audio where you can control the functions and your different sources and you can click on the phone as well and
See your contacts which would automatically sync over if I have my phone connected right now
One of the things I will point out is that you've always got these shortcut buttons along the bottom. So it makes things very convenient
Now the big thing that people are probably most interested in is your apple carplay and android auto
so even if you have one of the models without integrated navigation
Which is the majority of them
You do still have access to
Google Earth maps as well as Apple Maps if you use apple carplay or Android auto which is standard equipment
as far as other noteworthy features
You do have your Wi-Fi hotspot, like all GM vehicles and this is where you'll find the password to sign in
But anyways, that's pretty much the main features of the Chevy infotainment 3 system
However, we do have a really detailed tech help video that digs into the features
So if you want to check that out a link to that is in the video description
I'm moving up to mirror, of course, it is auto-dimming
We do also have the rear camera functionality which is optional on the three LT RS and premiere
This car has pretty good visibility, but the rear window is a little small and the pillars are a little bit thick
So this is definitely helpful
And then moving on up from that
You will also find a panoramic moonroof on our model
Now once again, this is optional on the top three trims
Via the Sun and wheels package, but as you can see this is well worth it
I think because it is huge a different portion does open up just like a traditional
Moonroof would so it gives you a lot of open air?
space
But anyways, I have to say that I am really digging the Blazers interior I
Honestly don't think any of the rivals have such a good mixture of style and functionality
So overall, it's just really a great place to spend time
Anyways now I'll go ahead and hand it off to Mason who will finish up the rest of the cabin
So heading around to the rear seat of the all-new blazer
You're going to find a larger than average amount of spice
Its technical writing is 41 inches of rear legroom and 38.6 inches of rear headroom
That does make it larger than the Ford Edge Nissan Murano and Hyundai Santa Fe
However, the Headroom rating is a little bit less than those models since it does have the sloping roofline
Now moving over to the door trim. It is really nicely finished
So you do have a leather wrapped armrest with some stitching going through that
it is also padded above that and the top portion is a nice cranny and
Down below that you will find an auto down window as well as heated rear seats standard on the premier or optional in the RS
Further below that you do have some bottle storage
Now the seat itself is a really nice design
So you have perforation here as well as a little Alcantara insert with stitching in addition to that. You can also slide and recline
Now here in the center area the blazer is really nicely finished
so all models will get these rear vents and it does have a little silver outline which makes it look a lot more premium and
Down below that Chevy was also nice enough to include a USB
Regular USB port as well as a USB type-c port now in addition to that
we do also have a household stock outlet, which is a really nice touch and
Down below that we do have storage
I don't know if you can see it or not, but there's plenty of storage down here
You can fit quite a bit of stuff in there
In addition to that we do have an armrest does fold down nicely
It is leather wrapped and it has some cup holders in the end
Now up top this fully loaded blazer does have the panoramic moonroof which does look really nice here at the back and
Beside that you do have an assist grip LED lighting and a coat hook
Now as far as where legroom is concerned like I said, this is the biggest among its rivals
So I have plenty of space behind Drew seating position
I probably have about six inches of rear legroom and I feet can't easily slide up on it the seat
now sliding over
Even with the seat scooted all the way back. I still have plenty of room
But overall, I'm extremely impressed by the Blazer for seat most in this class do offer comfortable rear seats

But the blazers has plenty of features and it truly feels like a luxury car back here
Now to fold the rear seats you can use this level over here and it does come down it does fold 60/40 split
Now heading around to the tailgate of the Blazer
It is power on the 3 LT trims and higher and foot activated on the RS and premier trucks
So just wave your foot under the bumper and you will notice that it does even have a Chevy logo light up on the ground
Here so this way your foot into the buffer and it does open right up
Now inside the Blazers trunk
You will find a little bit less space than where you will on most of the rivals
It comes in a 30 cubic feet behind the second row seats and expands to 64 cubic feet with them folded now
Like I said that is a little bit less than the rivals. It's about 10 cubic feet less than the Santa Fe and Ford Edge
However, Chevy does finish it really nicely back here since we do have the cargo management system straight off with the x.25 which basically allows
you to divide your cargo areas and
Down below the floor here. You have a spare tire
some additional storage to the left
some additional storage right here as well and you will also notice we have some LED lighting as
Well as the handle two folding rear seats
And once you do fold them all the way it is a flat loading
Now the passenger seat is that same nice design it even has some nice cool stitching here and
It is also sick type our adjusting on the 3 LT trends and higher or it would be 4-way manual on the lower trims
Now in front of the passenger we do have awesome materials
so we have a leather area right here as well as the stitching the tail and
To open the glove box. All you have to do is press this little button
Now once aside you will find it's a nice sized glove box it is not felt lined but it does have LED lighting
Now top the Sun Visor does have a mirror light and the lights do gently fade in
And you can also detach it and extend
But anyway guys that sums up all I'm going to talk about for the rear areas at the blazer
So now let's go ahead and talk about the powertrain and do a test drive
All righty, so now to go ahead and talk about your different powertrains
Now for this model, you've got two different choices
You've got a two and a half liter four-cylinder for your L and 1 LT
so your base 2 trims and that makes 193 horsepower and
188 panel feet of torque
Now for the rest of the models, which is - LT through premier, you're gonna get a much bigger
3.6 liter v6
And that makes 305 horsepower and 269 pound-feet of torque
Regardless of your choice of engine you're gonna have a 9 speed automatic transmission
Power is put to the ground with standard front wheel drive across all of the trumps
Or optional all-wheel drive on the 2lt and up
However, it is worth noting that on our s and premiere models. There is a more sophisticated
twin clutch all-wheel drive system with torque vectoring
As far as your fuel economy is concerned the EPA didn't publish all the figures
But I just read the sticker on this model and this is the 3.6 liter v6 all wheel drive
and it's rated at 18 city 25 highway 25 and
That pretty much matches the equivalent Ford Edge if you're making a comparison, but anyways, that pretty much covers the basic specs
So let's go ahead and take it for a quick test drive
So setting off in the 2019 blazer
Power seems pretty good
So here at this stop sign our auto start/stop system just engaged. So, let's see how quickly it restarts here
Did a good job that restart well before my foot went from the brake to the gas pedal, so that's what you want to see
And I do also kind of want to point out
for those of you that don't know like all of the heat and stuff stays on so
It definitely is not going to be something that you're going to notice when you restart
We have power definitely feels more than adequate like I was saying earlier a
Lot of different jean vehicles have this including vehicles much much bigger
like your Buick Enclave for instance and your Chevy Traverse and those of course are
Gigantic three row SUVs and this is a smaller and lighter vehicle. You can definitely tell that
Like you said, we drove all of those and this feels so much smaller even just riding here in the passenger seat
I'm not even behind the wheel and you can just tell you're hauling around a whole lot less
mass
When you buy the Blazer, absolutely
And you can tell that in the handling as well
This uh, it feels pretty agile now, of course, this is no
It may look like a Camaro but it's not. It shares no bones with the camaro
It's still just a crossover, but I do appreciate that Chevy has made it
sportier
Than their other offerings like the equinox and bigger things like this Traverse
So this is like a good middle ground. I guess you could say it as well in driving dynamics as well as size
I also want to talk about how smooth the 9 speed automatic is
It's incredibly smooth
There's not many transmissions that shift as smooth as this hat is shifting
Just driving like a normal person
It's it and then here the rolling stop
you can see it just
Just does it all like it has no hesitation but no animation no stuttering and you know
A lot of people they don't like the gears to shift
continuously and with the 9 speed you kind of would expect that but
You really can't tell when it shifts gears like just riding along here
I
Couldn't tell when it switched gears or anything
You just get that power that you need when you need it and the fuel economy that you want
When you're just cruising down the highway, that's exactly right
Really getting the blazer out on the highway is a really good measure of what this car is going to be doing mainly so this
Car is a crossover after all I Drew said it's not a sports car or anything like that
And just riding along here. It is a super smooth vehicle. We went over a bridge just a few minutes ago and
It took it like a dream like the bumps. You can't feel them at all. Nothing really makes it into the cabin
It's quiet in here. The seats are comfortable and really is just a great
Highway cruising vehicle, which is what a lot of you guys will be doing in this car
Right, this is a poorly maintained road. Yes. It's still very quiet inside the cabin
I don't think you'll have any problem taking off merging onto a highway or something. We live in a busy city
No this car handles it really well, I'm very impressed. You know, this engine we did say is in a lot of other beautiful
GM vehicles in general but this it sounds good in this car. It feels definitely peppy enough
Because it's not hauling around as much weight
But overall I have to say I'm really impressed by the way the new blazer drives
it really just feels like a
Well-rounded package, you've got the nice ride and the space of your bigger siblings like the Traverse
But then it's got more of an agile and you know tight sporty feel
Then your equinox or traverse as well
So it kind of just feels like that
Right mixture kind of maybe the perfect maybe the Goldilocks of the Chevy lineup as far as the crossovers go
So you need a little space but one a little Camaro insert it in there. Then this blazer might be your choice

2019 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 Review | carsales

2019 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 Review | carsales

carsales.com.au:

It’s over the top.
It’s over the edge.
And now it’s over here.
It’s the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1.
Born and built in the USA but converted to
right-hand drive by HSV in Melbourne and now
on sale through its national dealer network
and one can be yours for just 159,990 bucks.
I’m not kidding.
Okay so that price has instantly drawn a line
through the ZL1 for all but the few hundred
hardcore fans HSV is confident will put their
money down on this monster.
But considering the bang for buck maybe their
buying decision isn’t driven by passion
alone.
No other passenger vehicle on sale in Australia
today can match the ZL1’s combination of
price and performance.
The LT4 V8 smashes out nearly 500 kilowatts
and 900 newton metres.
That’s outstanding.
Okay it’s a push rod engine but it’s no
antique.
Variable valve timing and direct injection
ensure that.
There’s no less than 100 heat exchanges
in there keeping everything cool.
Speaking of cool, it was actually frigidly
cold and miserably wet for most of our ZL1
road drive.
Earlier in the week we’d had the chance
to feel the ZL1’s full force at Sandown
motor raceway and it was mega.
Driving the rear-wheel’s virus six speed
manual or ten speed auto, no surprise the
ZL1 hooks up and bangs out four second zero
to 100 times with the aid of launch control
if you want it.
Even in the wet there’s no doubting the
full force of the ZL1’s power train.
Holy crap this thing is fast.
The ZL1 is no one trick pony though.
It’s got magnetic ride control dampers which
means it can go from liveable in tour up to
absolutely kidney bruising in track.
And that chassis along with some big Brembo
brakes makes the ZL1 a really enjoyable car
to steer along a twisting section of road.
But don’t be mistaken.
Yes, this is a two-door coupe but it’s not
small and light.
It’s nearly four point eight metres long
and weighs in at 1800 kilos.
It does require some care and effort, especially
in the rain.
So you might be wondering about the quality
of HSV’s conversion drop.
Well it’s mostly top notch.
The flip mirrors look a bit weird and sticking
your elbow in the cup holders is odd but they
are things I reckon you could live with.
There’s a couple more downers that are really
more significant.
For instance, the back seat is a laughable
joke.
Treat is as extra boot space which is handy
because the boot is small and accessed via
a tiny boot lid is a challenge.
Visibility out of this thing in any direction
but forward is limited.
Thankfully there’s a reversing camera, rear
cross traffic alert, and blind spot monitoring
to help out.
But one crucial driver assist system that’s
missing is autonomous emergency braking.
The yanks don’t get it and nor do we.
And then there’s that Zee or Zed question.
Well we’re in Australia so that’s why
I’ve been saying Zed L1 but it’s your
money so it’s your choice.
Well what to make of this latest yank that’s
hit our shores.
Well no doubt it’s got its deficiencies
but it’s also got fantastic performance
and that’s the essence for something that
sits in the HSV showroom.
Surely it should be layout.
It should be proud.
And in this case you can add pretty bloody
epic too.

2019 Chevy Colorado Diesel: FULL REVIEW + DRIVE | More Tech and Equipment for 2019!

2019 Chevy Colorado Diesel: FULL REVIEW + DRIVE | More Tech and Equipment for 2019!

Car Confections:

What's going on people of YouTube! a
Couple of weeks back we brought you reviews of the Toyota Tacoma and all-new Ford Ranger
But you can't forget about the truck that kick-started the whole mid-sized truck revival the Chevy, Colorado
It has seen a lot of success since it was reintroduced
And now for 2019 there are quite a few refinements to update the winning formula
Of course
We do an especially thank our friends at Sutherland Chevrolet in Nicholasville for giving us access to this fully loaded
Colorado and if you're in the market for any new Chevy be sure to stop by their dealership or visit them via their website
which we provided a link to in the video description, so
With more and more rivals entering the market. Let's see if Colorado can continue its massive growth in the segment
Select always will start off with the exterior style which in this case is unchanged
That means you'll continue to find this typical Chevy chrome grill across most models though on the z71
It is black and you can now get a new chevy lettered grill as an extra option
As far as the headlights they will always be halogens across the lineup but on the z71 and LT with the luxury package
You'll find these upgraded projector beam units
Fog lights are also standard on the LT and Z71
Heading on to the side the colorado stands out for most of the rivals by the fact that you can get all three cabin bed
configurations with all four trim levels
so I means you can have a loaded Z71 with the access cab or a
Base model with the crew cab and either the short or long beds
And then checking out the rear it has the traditional truck look but it has been spiced up with the chrome bumper and other chrome
Accents all around the truck since we do have that luxury package
The taillights are incandescent and then down below you'll find a larger exhaust pipe than normal since this is the diesel
Overall the Colorado is aging gracefully and still looks very handsome
especially with the extra chrome elements that our last z71 did not have
However, not everything is entirely carryover this year since we have the brand-new 18-inch dark argent alloy wheels
Which are $1,000 option on the LT
Since this is the trim, that's the most luxury minded of the bunch
there are several other 18-inch options plus for
2019 the brand new rst package throws in 20-inch alloys
But as far as the standard options go both of the top trims come as 17-inch
Alloys and the lower two trims with 16 inch steel wheels
Heading on up to the mirrors
You have to get the z71 or the LT with luxury package to get power
Adjustment as well as the heating feature that was added last year
You cannot however get blind spot monitoring on any trend
and
as far as other safety features
We have the optional safety package that includes forward collision alert lane departure warning and parking sensors
But there are not any active safety features like in the Tacoma or Ranger
Now heading back around to the rear areas the Colorado offers excellent tow ratings the base model delivers
3500 pounds the v6
7000 pounds and this diesel a class-leading
7700 pounds
You also have a very versatile bed with a lot of standard tie-downs blighting and easy access things through the bumper steps
Additionally on this model we have the optional easy lowering tailgate and spray-on bedliner
And
Finally the last thing to look at on the outside is the 21 gallon fuel tank
which in this diesel 4x4 model is good for a
fantastic range of
462 miles
But anyways, that's it for the exterior, so now let's see all the 2019 changes Chevy has made to the cabin
So on the LT and Z71 Colorado's, you will find a standard keyless entry system
However, smart entry is not on any, Colorado
On this particular one, you will also notice we have the remote start system
That comes in the LT can be is package or a standard on the z71
Now, of course to get inside the vehicle, you're just gonna press the unlock button
Alright so checking out the cabin of the 2019 Colorado as you can see nothing has really changed as far as the design
So you continue to have several different trims with different options
So starting out with your base model and your WT you have either cloth or vinyl seats finished in only black
however, when you go up to the LT you get black or ash color options and you have a standard cloth seat or like
This model you have optional leather the same kind of thing goes for your z71
So that one comes standard with a leather trim seat and cloth in the middle. However, it can also get this full leather
Now turning over here to your door trim, it is nicely finished
You have a soft touch material for your arm to rest on as well as above it, but the top part is hard touch
As far as your windows they are one touch automatic for the drivers only
Attorney over here to the seat. This is where one of your 2019 changes occurs
The previous four way power seat has been upgraded to six way power seat for the LT and z71 trims
So basically you have the height adjustment as well as your power lumbar. However, the back is still manually adjusting
And then hitting up here to the seat itself this leatherette does feel pretty high-quality and you do have a nice color contrast stitching
Now we don't actually have any running boards, but you can get them as an option but getting in is still pretty easy regardless
So like I was saying there's no real changes to the design this year nor are there any changes to the materials
So you do continue to have very durable materials. I'm including up here on the upper -
Where it continues to be hard touch
however, you will notice that you do have a new speaker grille up here at the top but
Going back to the materials everything in here is hard touch
However, like I was saying it's very well put together. It feels very solid
And of course you can get be more luxurious materials by going for the GMC cam
Now to start the vehicle you just have an old-fashioned piece and just turn it in there and twist
Now coming up here to the screen this is another one of your 2019 changes I
all models now come with the new Chevy infotainment 3 system versus Chevy MyLink
And in addition to that
You will also notice that on the base models you now have a 7-inch touch display
versus the old 4.2 inch display
So, of course we do have the diesel and it has a very distinct startup
So checking out the gauges here. They do have a simple and attractive design
And when you go for the upper two trims you do have a nice large 4.2 inch color multifunction display
Now this does have all the same controls as you expect from GM vehicles, and it's got the upgraded graphics this year
It's you know, scroll through different things like your settings your phone
Navigation and whatnot
Then coming back to the steering wheel you do have electric power steering
And on the LT and up you do have a leather wrapped steering wheel
As far as your controls these come on the upper two trims once again and new this year is a heated steering wheel
That's standard on the z71 and optional on the LT
Then coming here to the other side. We've got your standard phone voice and controls for the multifunction display
As far as the wheel itself, it does manually tilt and telescope
And then over here to the side of that. You'll find your four-wheel drive controls as well as the controls for your trailer brake
But anyways moving on to storage you will find quite a lot of storage for a small pickup truck
So starting out over here with your central console open it up and as you can see it is quite large and very very deep
One of your 2019 changes is that this USB port has been eliminated
It instead moved up front here
you no more can be a place where you can stick your phone and plug it in and it's just easier here and then you
Also find a 12-volt outlet as well
I'm moving over here to your shifter. Of course. It is just a traditional shifter. So you just squeeze it
And bring it back to drive
You can't also go back one more for low and you can control the shifting manually with these little toggles
But there are never any paddle shifters
Another one of the nice content changes for 2019
Is that the standard backup camera has now been upgraded to HD
resolution so this
Looks a lot clearer than it did last year. You continue to have active trajectory
But you also now have the trailer brake the trailering lining up line
You will also find parking sensors optional on the LT and standard on the Z71
But anyways moving on up from that you will find your three-stage heated seats these come
optional on the LT and standard on the z71
but in typical Chevy fashion, you do actually get to control the
Butt and the back portion separately
And then going up above that. You'll find another row of toggles
This of course is your rear exhaust break and that is only on the diesel
Then you've got your traction control bed lighting lane departure warning and your parking sensors
Anyways moving on up to your climate controls
This is the single zone automatic setup that comes standard on these z71 or through the luxury package on the LT
Just like any automatic setup. You can just press the auto mode adjust the temperature and
Trolley fans
For you and then everything of course is located right here physically, so it's very easy to use even with gloves on
So now that brings us up here to our audio system
This model actually comes equipped with the optional five hundred dollar Bose premium sound system. So let's go ahead and take a sample of that
Sall quality is very good for a small pickup truck
Anyways that brings us up here to one of our biggest 2019 changes which like I already mentioned is the new infotainment 3 system
So let's go ahead and take a look at that
alright, so as you've seen in many recent Chevrolet's
The new infotainment system has a new design better performance, you know better-looking graphics
But overall the features are pretty similar, so it's not wouldn't be too difficult to get used to from the old Chevy MyLink system
so let's just start out with you do have your
Regular home screen and you can click into these things to expand them and control them
So right here, we have our sister Bluetooth audio and you can play and pause the music straight from here
You also notice there's some shortcuts along the bottom and you can click into any of these things to quickly jump into that section
So going into your phone section
as you can see all your contacts from your smart phone automatically sync over and scrolling is very very smooth very
Back over here to the home screen. We can click into the navigation system
This is the new dynamic navigation setup
Where it can update over-the-air and as you can see the graphics and performance are a lot better than before
And you can even control things like the 3d tilt so very nice overall setup. Now if you don't choose the optional navigation
You do still have Android auto and apple carplay on all the models even the base models, which is new for
2019 but
Anyways, that's the main features. I want to talk about for the Chevy infotainment 3 system
However, we do have a much more detailed tech help video available
For those of you who want to learn more a link to that video will be provided in the description
I'm moving on up from that
We do have an auto dimming mirror with your OnStar buttons and that is optional on the LT and standard Z71
And then going up from that you will notice that lack of a moonroof there is no moonroof on any colorado
But that's actually the standard affair for the class since the Ranger also does not include a moonroof on any of the trips
But anyways the cabin of the Colorado continues to be a pleasant place to spend time
You have very spacious accommodations and for 2019 a big upgrade in the technology department
So overall, it's a very pleasing cabin
And just like all GM vehicles you do have the rear seat reminder system
But anyways now go ahead and hand it off to Mason who will finish up the rest of the cabin
Already so checking out the rear seat of the 2019 Chevy Colorado crew cab
You're gonna find a really large amount of space for its class
It comes in at 36 inches of rear legroom and 38 inches of rear headroom
Which does place it above the new Ford Ranger and the Toyota Tacoma
Now turning over here to the door trim Chevy does give you nice materials
So you have a leather area where your arm arrests as well as above it and the top part is a nice grand plastic
Now in addition to that you do have a power window that is auto down
And of course you do have plenty of door storage since this is a pickup truck after
Now as far as the scene itself is concerned it is a nice design
So you have color contrast stitching those are very comfortable and leather wrapped
Now down in the center despite most of the rivals not giving you any connections
Chevy does continue to give you two smart charging USBs as well as a 12-volt power outlet
down below that you do also have some more storage and
In addition to that you do have a nice center armrest so the wrap and has some cupholders
Also, you do have a manual a sliding rear window in the Colorado
And up top, you do have some lighting just your regular lighting as well as a really nice headliner
assist grip and coat hook
Now as far as the rear legroom is concerned behind your seating position
I have plenty of it
So I have probably about two to three inches of rear legroom and my feet can't easily slide up into the seat
Now with the seat all the way back
As you can see legroom is pretty limited, but that's expected for this class
And like I said, this is larger than most of the rivals
But overall, I continue to be impressed by the Colorado's receipt in the class where most of them don't have any features
The Colorado does give you some nice luxury amenities as well as plenty of space
Now since this is a truck after all the seats do fold up
So you have to do is locate this little handle and pull up
As you can see that is a little bit difficult with one hand but underneath you will find plenty of storage
So you have this little compartment here as well as another larger compartment over on the passenger side
So if you just go all the way through there
There's plenty of room as you can see they've even rolled up a entire carpet mat under here and to release it
Just pull the handle again
Now in addition to that the seat backs do also fold. So just pull this little strap and
They fold right down and there is also a little bit of storage back here as well
Now we will talk about the pricing here in just a minute
Over here in the passenger side, you do that stove that really nice seat and it is also four-way power adjusting around the LT
And it is standard on the z71. Although you do have to get the LT leather package to have it on the LT
Now in front of the passenger we do have good materials so the entire dashboard here is padded plastic
down below that you do have a good sized glovebox and
Up top the Sun Visor is quite large and it does have a nice mirror as well two lights
And in addition to that it does also detach an extend
But anyway guys that covers all the rear areas of the Colorado so now let's go ahead and check out that new turbo diesel engine
So let's go ahead and talk a bit about the powertrain and fuel economy
Now there continue to be three different options for the Colorado. They're unchanged from the previous model gears
so your base model, you're still offered with a 2.5 liter naturally aspirated 4-cylinder making 200 horsepower and
191 ft pounds of torque
that can be paired to either a 6-speed manual or a
6-speed Automatic transmission
And it is like I said your base option. It's available across all of the trim levels
optional across all of the trim levels is a
3.6 liter v6
That makes 308 horsepower and 275 pound feet of torque and it is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission
And I from what I've seen that's probably the most popular engine option
However, there is one more option. It's what we have. That's the most unique option. It is a turbo diesel
So nothing else in the class has that yet
2.8 liter turbo diesel making 181 horsepower
but
369 pound weight of torque, so that's why you buy these of course
And that's paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission
And finally for your fuel economy, there are a whole bunch of figures
Which we'll just put up on the screen instead of reading them all loud
However with the turbo diesel it is the most efficient option
Coming in at 19 City 28 highway 22 combined with four-wheel drive
or 23 combined
if you go for the two wheel drive version that definitely makes it one of the most efficient midsize trucks you can get period
Anyways now we'll go ahead and take it for a test drive
So the taking off in the Colorado diesel I have to say I'm very impressed by the way
It feels off the line. You can definitely feel that three hundred pound feet of torque
working for sure
You know the horsepower rating
Because it's pretty low, but it really suppose shows you back in your seat. Exactly
The reason you get the diesel is for that torque
And it definitely doesn't disappoint
Now this is a small truck but it definitely has that big truck sound with the diesel
Not really loud and intrusive it's actually very refined for a diesel but you can you can tell here it is a diesel
And I do what I mentioned while we're sitting here it does idle very smooth it's not like a semi truck in the way
It's it idles it, you know
You can hear a little bit but it's not gonna be like jarring your teeth out. Just sitting at a red light
Now sitting here at a red light I do want to point out that auto start-stop is not available on the, Colorado
So for those of you that don't like it
You're not going to find it here in the, Colorado
Getting up to highway speed definitely is effortless
Once again, very quiet
you know with the diesel you stay in the low rpms or a lot of torque so you don't have a
You know a type of screaming engine sound or anything
It definitely feels really smooth here cruising down the road the ride quality is really sublime in this car
The seats are pretty comfortable and this is a rough road and like you said, there's really not much you
Know bumps making into the cab
This seems to be tuned of a softer ride
For sure, yeah
Six-speed Automatic transmission definitely seems well matched with the
Like I said with that type of torque you don't have to do a whole lot of shifting that weighs
And it definitely each shift smoothly
Little for all I'm impressed by the way of Colorado diesel drives
Like I said, this is it's a class exclusive there are no other easel midsize trucks for sale in the United States right now
Like Chevy's definitely got a winner under you, you know, because if you want a diesel
Really until recent years. You have to get a heavy
gigantic heavy-duty truck and I really appreciate that diesels are moving down to
full-size and midsize trucks, so everybody has the option to
You know experience the better fuel economy the better towing
Torque and that really no heavy torque of the engine
It's a pleasant experience overall
Already and as far as the pricing is concerned for the 2019, Colorado
There are a lot of different combinations you can get as with any pickup truck
So what I'm going to read you is for the extended cab, which is like the shorter door
one two wheel drive with the base 2.5 liter engine
Which is available that combinations available on all four of the trims
So the very base model in that super basic configuration will ring you in at twenty one thousand three hundred dollars
If you want to go to the WT that is twenty four thousand eight hundred dollars then this model
which is the LT comes in at twenty seven thousand six hundred dollars and
Finally the top-of-the-line. Z71 is thirty thousand seven hundred dollars
Now obviously this model being the LT is not twenty seven thousand bucks. So this does have quite a bit of optional equipment
So to get the crew cab and four-wheel drive the LT s base price is thirty four thousand two hundred dollars
now like we already mentioned we do have the turbo diesel engine, which is a
$3,700 option and
In addition to that we do also have several option packages
so we have 18-inch alloy wheels for a thousand bucks as was these jet black leather seats, which is nine hundred fifty dollars as
well as the LT convenience package for six hundred and ninety and that includes a remote start and
rear window defroster and the easy lowering tailgate
now in addition to that we'd also have the safety package for six hundred ninety bucks which adds in some of your safety systems and
we do have a premium audio system for five hundred as well as the
Navigation system on here for four hundred ninety five dollars
And
Also, we have a spray in bed liner for 475 which is a factory
Option there as was the locking rear differential for 325
trailering equipment for 250
all-weather floor mats and an engine block heater for 100
So we do have quite a few options on this model and plus the destination charge of 995
This one's total brings in at forty five thousand eight hundred and forty dollars
So in essence with the LT you can equip it to have all the same features as your z71
Just with the different of ours
Ours is more chromed up
Well guys we've been dried watching this in depth look at the 2019 Chevy, Colorado LT Duramax diesel
Look at you. Next time is the same for more of the latest automotive delicacies!

How to Properly Set Your Side Mirrors

How to Properly Set Your Side Mirrors

Cars.com:

setting your rear-view mirrors properly
will ensure that you can always see
what's behind your car even if you don't
have a high-tech blind spot monitor or
one of the new full-time rearview
cameras that are hitting the market is
there really a correct way to position
your rear-view mirror when it comes to
the side mirrors the answer is
definitely yes
many drivers will position the side
mirror to show an expanse of the side of
the car
why do that are you afraid the rear of
the car is going to vanish if you don't
keep an eye on it
what this does is it limits the field of
view of the side mirror if you tilt the
mirror outward you start to see what's
been missing such as another car to
position your side mirrors make sure
your drivers seats where you want it and
then lean a little bit of the left look
out the side mirror and adjust it so
just a very slight amount of the car is
visible on that inside edge then lean a
little bit to the right and do the same
on the right side mirror what this does
is it allows you to see the car if
you're backing up for parking just by
leaning a little bit but in most cases
driving straight you get the full field
of view out of both mirrors with this
arrangement every car behind you three
lanes wide should be visible in at least
one mirror also if the car passes you on
the right as soon as it leaves that
right side door mirror it should appear
in the window itself high-tech features
are nice but drivers should always check
your blind spots no matter what features
they have and of course that their
mayor's properly to see all there is to
see
