How to Pronounce Peugeot? And WHY!? | French Car Pronunciation Explained

Julien Miquel:

This is Julien, the Frenchman who makes
French pronunciation videos yes French
pronunciation videos and we are looking
at how to pronounce the name of one of
the most famous brands of French cars
there's actually only three brands of
French cars that are prominent in the
world together with Renault and Citroen
we are looking at how to pronounce the
name with the typical French
pronunciation: Peugeot. So how do you go
and about pronouncing Peugeot? and why is
it pronounced this way? Well the T at the
end of Peugeot is definitely silent it's
very often the case in French that the
last letter is not pronounced and that's
the case here so do not say PeugeoT but
rather Pe Jo then the e after the G
there means that the letter G is
pronounced like a J and not with the
sound go
so do not say Peugeot or do not say
Peugot either but rather Peugeot the e
after the G there is not pronounced it
just means that GE forms the sound jure
so like a J so it'd be almost like Joe
were like there was a J there so Pearl
Joe the sound EE you the letters e you
form the kind of strange french sound
that is per row so overall the typical
french pronunciation is Peugeot. Peugeot, but
it'd be fine in English American to just
say Peugeot. Peugeot.
but definitely not Peujot and here is
how to pronounce pay Joe if you want to
learn more about how to pronounce
Renault then here is the video about
this I hope this video was useful if I
was given a quick number before you go
to support my work, and I will see you
soon in the wonderful world of French
pronunciation. Au revoir! bye bye...

How to Pronounce Renault? (CORRECTLY) & WHY!? French Pronunciation

How to Pronounce Renault? (CORRECTLY) & WHY!? French Pronunciation

Julien Miquel:

We are looking at how to pronounce the name
of this famous French car manufacturer, that
has been established in France in 1899.
Yes, Renault has been making, building cars
for 120 years.
So an historic car manufacturer based and
established in France but that is very famous
because it's become an international car manufacturing
group owning different brands around the world
such as Alpine, the sports car brand, as well
as Dacia in Romania, Renault Samsung Motors
in South Korea, and of course parts of Nissan
in Japan.
So very famous car manufacturer, champion
in Formula 1 several times and it still makes
formula one car engines to this day.
So a famous brand of car but the name Renault
itself confuses a lot of people because it's
got a lot of letters that no one really knows
how to pronounce.
Unless you are a French speaker like I am,
I am actually French.
And I owned a few Renaults myself.
So I'm going to tell you everything about
how to pronounce Renault and how to get your
typical french pronunciation of Renault right,
and why!
So how do you go about pronouncing Renault.
Well, the letters A and U at the end of Renault
come down to the sound O (OW).
So that's why you say RENO.
Now the L and the T at the end of Renault
are both silent.
They are both silent.
You hear some people say RENOLT.
You do not want to pronounce neither the L
nor the T. The Spanish say RENOL, pronouncing
the L and not the T. Some only pronounce the
T saying RENOT.
No, you do not want to pronounce neither of
them.
So say RE NO.
RE NO.
Almost like RENO in California, but it's more
like RENOW.
Now if you are able to do the French R, say
RReNOw.
A French person, French people in France say
RENAU.
Renault.
La voiture Renault.
So essentially with an English pronunciation,
just say RENOW.
Renault.
Renault.
I hope this video was useful.
If it was, give it a quick thumb up before
you go to support my work, and I will see
you soon in the wonderful world of French
word and French cars, and also French wine
pronunciation.
Au revoir!
Bye bye...

By the way,
there's even a term for this in linguistics.
It's called "Anglicization."
This is when foreign words are changed
to make them easier to pronounce,
spell,
or understand in English.
Actually,
in our case it would be "Americanization,"
but that's a different concept :).

we want to help you be understood
