Nyayo Pioneer

Przemek Michalak:

Nyayo Car was a project by the Kenyan government to plan and manufacture Kenyan cars.

The project was initiated in 1986 when then president Daniel arap Moi asked the University of Nairobi to develop the vehicles.

Five prototypes were made, named Pioneer Nyayo Cars and they attained a speed of 120 km/h.

The Nyayo Motor Corporation was established to mass-produce these cars.

However, due to lack of funds, the car never entered into production.

The Nyayo Motor Corporation was later renamed Numerical Machining Complex Limited, manufacturing metal parts for various local industries.

The car became a synonym for the many white elephants that signified the government of the day.

Evolution of mobile messengers in Korea

Evolution of mobile messengers in Korea

ARIRANG NEWS:

There is no denying that Korea is one of the
most wired countries.
And Koreans going mobile and 'smart' for their
banking is not news either.
But our Kim Ji-yeon tells us... how that 'smart'
banking is set to change how Koreans interact
with each other as well.
Koreans usually express their congratulations
to newlyweds by giving them cash gifts enclosed
in an envelope.
However, this tradition may change, with the
evolution of mobile messengers,... which now
offers the newest feature of financial services.
Korea's number one mobile messenger Kakao
introduced a way for users to trade stocks
in February, called "Stocks Plus Kakao," and
said they'd be able to conduct money transfers
through the application in the latter half
of this year.
Users can deposit about 490 U.S. dollars into
their "Kakao bank wallet," and can transfer
up to 89 dollars a day to their acquaintances.
The service is expected to be widely used
by Koreans for common acts such as sending
gifts of condolence or congratulations to
their family and friends.
Users can then transfer the received money,
straight into their personal banking account,
the next day.
Kakao is just one example of how the evolution
of mobile messengers is expected to pave a
new tradition and way of social exchange.
It may even rival existing platforms like
Internet banking and home trading systems
for stocks.
Here in Korea, home to some of the world's
most tech-savvy consumers, eight out of 10
people use their smartphones to do some of
their banking.
The Bank of Korea says the number of smartphone
banking users exceeded 40-million this year
for the very first time.

Why Not to Buy a Used Hybrid Car

Why Not to Buy a Used Hybrid Car

Scotty Kilmer:

Rev up your engines,
today I'm going to help you decide whether
it's a good idea or not to buy a hybrid car,
now lately people have been asking me,
Scotty I'm thinking about buying a hybrid
car, what do you think about that,
well we'll start with a little history lesson,
hybrid's really started with submarines,
they have diesel engines that would recharge
the battery,
or run the propellers and then necessary and
they were under the water,
they would run only on the electric battery
power,
now the early Honda hybrids used a system
that was rather similar to the submarines
but it was a failure,
people didn't like them, they hardly sold
any of them and they were really slow,
as an example of this,
in 2013 Honda only sold 4,802 Insights,
while Toyota sold 145,172 Priuses,
so right off the bat I'd say don't buy a Honda
hybrid car,
if you want to get a hybrid car you want to
use the Prius design, which actually most
manufacturers use,
and that's an Adkinson cycle 4 cylinder engine
combined with a hybrid generating system,
and using a hybrid battery pack to store the
electrical power,
now the early hybrid used nickle metal hydrate
batteries,
and they were rechargeable,
the modern ones use lithium ion batteries
but for a long time they used nickle metal
hydrate batteries,
now in the case of the Priuses,
originally they had 28 Panasonic hybrid modules
and each module had 1.2 volt cells in it,
which would make 200 something volts for the
whole system, the price of these batteries
has come down over time,
now you can get a new one for about $2,600,
but I don't advise going any cheaper than
that,
there are places that recondition them, but
really you got an old worn out battery that's
made out of a bunch of little batteries,
if they replace a few of the battery cells
in them, hey the other ones are still old
and they're only going to break down over
time,
you really have to go new if your planning
on keeping the car for a long time,
so you have to decide how long your going
to drive your car,
in the case of the Prius the newer ones come
with a 8 year / 100,000 mile warranty,
so if your happy with that you'll never have
to worry about the battery,
but if your planning on buying a used hybrid
car that's more than 8 years old that has
more than 100,000 miles on it,
then you might want to think twice about that
one,
because not only do the batteries cost a lot
of money,
but other repairs cost a fortune too,
like this one that burnt out the generator,
a customer towed her Prius over to my place
because it died while she was driving down
the road,
and found out that it wasn't putting out any
charging voltage at all,
so I checked all the fuses and relays and
they were all perfectly fine,
then I thought, hey it just needs a new alternator,
but guess what, a Toyota Prius doesn't have
an alternator,
it uses a generator that's built into the
transfer case,
now if it would have been an older Toyota
like this old Celica,
the alternator is right here,
you just take off a couple bolts and a fan
belt and replace the alternator,
you could get a rebuilt one for $100 or so
and put in on in about 10 minutes,
but sadly in this hybrid system that's not
the case,
it doesn't use an alternator to charge the
battery, it uses a generator,
inside the transfer case here it's not seperately
serviceable,
I did a lot of research on the internet and
you have to buy the entire transfer assembly
for $3,459.68,
and if that wasn't bad enough, it takes over
10 hours of labor to take it all apart and
put it all back together again,
so most places are going to charge over $5,000
to do the job, and unfortunately in these
2002 Priuses it's very common for the generators
to short out they overheat and melt,
and unless you want to keep buying giant batteries
and recharging them to drive the car,
you have to fix it to make it able to drive,
and then of course you have to factor in the
cost of the car,
they cost a lot more, how much gas mileage
your actually going to get, and does this
amount to a profit over time,
a lot of times it doesn't for normal people,
but I recently came back from Seattle and
all the Uber drivers there were practically
all driving Priuses,
since they get such better gas mile with regenerative
braking,
in town, and a lot of taxi drivers do a lot
of in town driving,
you see all these Priuses because they're
cheaper to operate, it's a business and your
putting a lot of miles on it,
but if your just driving your car normally,
you might find that the extra expense of buying
a hybrid, and if your like me and want to
keep your car for 100,000's of miles,
the extremely high repairs your going to do
as they get old,
it's not really worth it buying a hybrid for
somebody who drives like that,
now my opinion on hybrids is this,
I see them as a type of stop gap technology,
there half way between gasoline cars and electric
cars and since your not fighting a war in
a U boat,
it's really not that necessary for most people,
so if you never want to miss another one of
my new car repair videos, remember to ring
that bell!

2018 Ford Raptor - Hennessey VelociRaptor 6x6

Cars.com:

we're here at the 2017 SEMA show where
wild and crazy is the name of the game
and we found something very cool by John
Hennessy now Hennessy is about
performance and speed but this time he's
done something a little crazy as well
and it's called the Velociraptor 600
horsepower underneath the hood still has
the 3.5 liter EcoBoost engine but he's
modified and tuned it to the point where
it's really putting out tons of power
and torque in fact I think it's 520
foot-pounds of torque
it's got about a 7 inch lift all the way
around
it's got 37 inch Toyo tires custom front
and rear bumpers but 6x6 so it's a six
wheel drive two rear drive shafts two
axles one set of leaf springs that
control those axles along with drag
links on the front and the rear
Fox Racing shocks
and a very impressive 8-foot bed to make
this probably one of the most unique
pickups available now this one that
you're looking at right now is about
350,000 dollars unless you want the
brake upgrade kit which costs you
another twenty two thousand dollars now
if you're going to play in this area
then you better have a lot of money but
you know you're going to have something
very unique in fact Hennessey tells us
he's only going to make 50 of these
trucks so it's going to be very
exclusive this is going to be a very
small private club you get to be a part
of if you can afford something like this
for more information go to pickup trucks

Is the 2019 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye Worth an Extra $10K?

Is the 2019 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye Worth an Extra $10K?

Edmunds:

ELENA SCHERR: This is the 2019
Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat.
It has 717 horsepower and
656 pound-feet of torque.
There's pretty much nothing
like it on the market,
except for this.
This is the 2019 Dodge
Challenger Hellcat SRT Redeye.
It has 797 horsepower and
707 pound-feet of torque.
Is it worth it to buy the
Redeye over the Hellcat?
Let's find out.

It's sort of a Spot
the Differences game
when you're looking at a
Hellcat and the Hellcat Redeye.
It's not the hood.
This dual snorkel hood is on the
Redeye and it's on the Hellcat,
and it is fully functional.
There's a new vent down
here for the brakes.
When you go more than
200 miles an hour,
you really need to
keep those things cool.
But the Hellcat
gets that as well.
The wide body fender extensions
are the same on both cars.
You can get either
car without them.
You can get a
narrow body Hellcat.
You can you get a
narrow body Redeye.
But why would you?
The logo is different, though.
Instead of being
a bright chrome,
it's this sort of dark smoked
chrome, and it's bedazzled.
Your six-year-old daughter
is going to love that.
The rest of the body
is exactly the same.
There are no changes
until you get
to the back, where the
little duck tail spoiler is
a tiny bit wider,
wraps around, and has
just the hint of a gurney flap.
Dodge calls this the
Hellcat HO, High Output.
It's really the same engine
that was in the Dodge Demon
if you remember that car.
You might.
It made a little bit of
a splash in the news.
It was a nine-second car
that lifted the front wheels
and had all this crazy
drag racing stuff.
And it was also a
limited production run.
So if you didn't already
get one, you can't get one,
unless you're willing to spend
a lot of money to get somebody
else's.
But you can get
the Demon engine.
Now, the Demon
was 808 horsepower
and the Redeye is rated at 797.
Why the difference?
Well, basically, just because
it has a different hood.
The Demon had a
much bigger scoop,
so it was bringing more air in.
More air means more
gas means more power.
But honestly, there was no
point in driving this car
I was like, "Oh, my God!
If only I had 808
horsepower, I would have
been able to make that pass.
But with 797, I just
couldn't do it!"
No, that didn't happen.
If you are super
nerdy, as I am, and you
want to know the differences
between this engine
and the Demon engine,
it's very simple.
Basically, it has
black valve covers.
It has a different badge
on the supercharger.
The magical thing
about this car there
is never any sort of merging
distance that is too short.
Bam!
Traffic speed.
Is there any reason
that you should
be driving an 800-horsepower
car on the street?
No.
No, there is not.
That is not sensible.
This is not a reasonable
choice to make.
It is probably an
irresponsible choice to make,
but it is so much fun.
So the question for
me is, what makes
this better than the Hellcat?
Because the Hellcat starts in
the $50,000 range, and this car
starts about $10,000 above that.
And this exact car
that we're driving
with all the stripes and
the really nice interior
and every single option and
the nicer radio and sunroof,
it's like $90,000.
It kind of ruins the
horsepower per dollar value.
I don't know that I
would want to spend
$90,000 for the Redeye.
But you don't have to.
I mean, again, this
has a lot of options,
and you don't have to do that.
But you do need to think, if
you're looking at these cars,
do you want the bragging rights
of 797 horsepower and then
you'll give up
some of the options
like the sunroof or
the leather interior
or do you want a
fully-optioned Hellcat?
For the same amount of money,
you'd get everything on it.
You'd just lose 100 horses.
The thing that blew
my mind about this car
when we first got in it
and started driving was you
would not know
that it's so fast.
Obviously, you know as soon
as you put the hammer down.
But right now, I've got about
this much throttle cruising
at 60 miles an hour.
Totally comfortable.
Air conditioning is on.
I could have the radio on
if I wasn't talking to you.
And it's just like a normal car.
It's not hard to drive.
You don't have to be experienced
with high performance cars
to be able to drive this
car around on the street.
It doesn't feel
outrageous or out of line
until you get in the gas.
But it has a bunch
of safety stuff.
So it wants to help you.
It wants you to have a good
time and not get into trouble.
So you can leave
traction control on.
It'll still step out,
but it will catch itself,
for the most part.
I mean, it can't do anything
if you steer it into a tree.
So don't do that.
But it has lane change
warnings and airbags.
If you went back in time
and told somebody driving--
I don't know-- a 1970
Dodge Dart that they
could have 800
horsepower that was safer
to drive than their Dodge Dart,
they would never believe you.
How is the handling?
Really good, really nice.
It's not twitchy.
It isn't jumpy.
In fact, everything
about this car, I think,
is even better than
the lower levels,
like I just drove a
Scat Pack, and it's
a little bit jumpier than this
car, like it wants to do more.
It wants to impress you.
This car is like, I don't
need to impress you.
You're already impressed.
And it's right.
Not all love for the Challenger.
There a couple of complaints
that I have about it.
It's never had the
best visibility.
Some people complain
about the back.
That doesn't bother me
so much, because that's
what all the mirrors are for.
But it has a huge pillar here.
And you will definitely
come into situations
where you're like, I
would like to turn,
and I do not know what's
behind that pillar.
So you get used to it if it's
your car, but I don't like it.
And I wish it was a
little bit thinner.
The other thing that I
think isn't fantastic
about Challenger is the seats.
They aren't bad
for the short term,
but they're sort of in
between race and comfort.
And they're not quite
doing either perfectly.
I was sliding
around a fair amount
when I was on the road
course in this car,
because the seat is big and
not quite bolstered enough
to hold me in place.
I feel like the
seats aren't quite as
comfortable as they could be.
And that is definitely
a point for Camaro,
because I have never been in a
car with more comfortable seats
than the current
generation Camaro.
Aside from the horsepower,
which I know I keep harping
on-- (WHISPERING) it's so much--
the other thing
that sets Challenger
apart from some
of the other cars
that you might be looking at
in the two-door high horsepower
sporty grand touring
category is the back seat.
It's quite good.
You can fit back there.
I mean, I can fit
back there, but even
if you're bigger than me,
you can fit back there.
I don't think that this will be
a very comfortable car for four
very tall people.
I mean, if the seats
are all the way back,
you definitely lose
leg room in the back.
But no problem for kids,
and really no problem
for a combination of adults.
The Redeye is a really
easy car to a fully nerd
out on, because there's a
lot of interesting tech in it
that comes from Demon.
It has this chiller
system that reroutes
the air conditioning to cool the
intake charge for the engine.
So that your engine gets cold,
even though you're really hot.
That's race track stuff.
I mean, you would absolutely
hate using it on the street.
But it's cool.
And again, it's this
bragging rights thing.
It's like you're
hanging out with people
and you're all talking
about your cars,
and they're like,
well, you know,
I have this very fine
automobile and it
has this much horsepower, and
you know, traction control.
And you're like, but
do you have a chiller?
And then you win.
I really can't tell you enough
how easy this car is to drive.
It's not even scary.
It should be scary.
It's not scary unless you get
on it, then it is very scary.

Even though there are a
ton of different versions
of the Challenger,
they all really share
the basic interiors.
So as you spend more money, you
can get nicer leather and nicer
trim pieces, but the overall
design of the interior
remains the same.
And it's fine.
It's nice enough.
It feels good, and
it's comfortable.
It doesn't look
really expensive.
It's not going to impress people
by the rarity of the materials
or the perfection of
the fit and finish.
But there's nothing
wrong with it.
It's nothing that's
going to bother you
while you're driving.
And it's really not why
you buy this car, anyway.
Infotainment is really easy
to use and easy to go through.
I don't love that a lot of the
controls are in the Apps menu,
because it wouldn't occur to
me to look in the Apps menu
to, say, figure out
how to sync my phone,
but once you know that they're
there, it's no big deal.
That's where there are.
A couple of them are
a little slow to load,
in particular the
Performance pages.
So don't wait till
the last minute
if you're really excited
to find out your G forces.
You've got to set that up well
before you hit the skid pad.
The Redeye is only
available in the automatic.
It's an 8-speed automatic,
the same as the Hellcat.
You can't get a manual,
because they just
don't have a transmission that
can back this much torque.
Dodge gives you a lot of
options for customizing
the modes and a quick button
to get there, the SRT.
You can change all of
this stuff, custom set up,
say you want sport trans
or paddle shifters off.
Redeye doesn't have all the drag
racing stuff that Demon has.
So it doesn't have
a trans brake.
It does have a launch
control and a line lock.
So you can do the burnouts
without using up your brake.

So is the 2019 Dodge
Hellcat Redeye a good catch?
It has impressive
horsepower and a ton of fun.
But you can get 90% of what
it offers in a Hellcat.
It's up to you if you
think that horsepower
is worth an extra $10,000.

Trump Threatens Tariffs On US Cars From Canada

Trump Threatens Tariffs On US Cars From Canada

Politicus Media:

Extremely complex bill, and it's
something that I think will be
talked about for many years to
come.
It's just good for both
countries.
As far as Canada is concerned,
we haven't started with Canada
yet.
We wanted to do Mexico and see
if that was possible to do, and
it wasn't.
I think it wasn't from my
standpoint something that most
people thought was even doable
when we started, if you look at
it.
You remember at the beginning
many people thought this was
something that just couldn't
happen because of all the
different factions and sides,
and the complexity.
And we made it much simpler,
much better, much better for
both countries.
Canada will start negotiations
shortly.
I'll be calling the prime
minister very soon, and we'll
start negotiations, and if
they'd like to negotiate fairly,
we'll do that.
You know, they have the tariffs
of almost 300% on some of our
dairy products.
We can't that.
I think with Canada, frankly,
the easiest thing we can do is
tariff their cars coming in.
It's a tremendous amount of
money and a simple negotiation
that could end in one day and
we've taken a lot of money the
following day, but I think we'll
give them a chance to probably
have a separate deal.
We could have a separate deal
that we could put it into this
deal.
I like to call this deal the
united states/mexico trade
I think it's an elegant game.
I think nafta has a lot of bad
connotations for the united
States.
Because it was a deal that was a
horrible deal for our country,
and I think it's got a lot of
bad connotations to a lot of
people, so we will probably, you
and I, agree to the name.
We'll see whether or not we
decide to put up Canada or just
do a separate deal with Canada

Subaru Forester SUV 2013 review - CarBuyer

Subaru Forester SUV 2013 review - CarBuyer

Carbuyer:

Subaru has always excelled at rugged, no frills
SUVs. The new Forester picks up where the
old one left off, but offers more interior
space, sharper handling and smart looks.
As you can see the boot is a decent size,
larger than a Nissan Qashqai with a flat load
lip and with the seats folded as easily as
pulling this lever standard on all but the
cheapest you can transport larger items.
Thanks to a lowered floor there is also more
room for passengers, headroom and legroom
is plentiful and these big wide opening doors
make it easy to get in and out.
In fact the whole cabin is larger because
the front pillars have been moved forwards
and for items that you don't put in the boot,
there is a large cubby hole here. The new
Forester definitely lives up to practical
reputation built by previous models as there
is more storage here and here. There is enough
adjustment in the seat to find a comfortable
driving position, and on that note...
The first place I wanted to drive was off
road, the 4x4 system adapts to whatever conditions
you are driving in (perfect for the rough
British winter), and features hill hold and
downhill aid functions as standard. Plus the
suspension settings are well judged keeping
things comfortable on rough ground.
Minimising body roll in the corners on tarmac.
Combine that with the good throttle response,
lower centre of gravity and more rigid body
and the Forester has an improved drive over
the 3rd generation it replaces. If it's towing
that you will be doing then this car can tow
2 tonnes and is fitted with a stabilisation
system to keep things under control when your
trailer or caravan is attached.
Now though it is time to talk about its negative
points. I will start with the steering. Although
light it offers very little feedback. The
the CVT automatic gearbox is not smooth and
is a bit whiny. But the real whining will
come from your purse because despite fuel
consumption and performance coming on leaps
and bounds in recent years, sadly the Forester's
figures do not fare well against the competition.
You will be lucky to get 28 miles to the gallon
out of the 2.0 litre petrol, so you could
go for the diesel which returns a more acceptable
49 miles to the gallon, but that's still some
way behind the Mazda CX-5 and Ford Kuga.
Inside, there are some cheap looking buttons
and switches, however let's not forget what
type of vehicle this is, it's a rugged, fit
for purpose, hard wearing Subaru with a loyal
following by those that love its workmanlike
charm. And for that reason, it's sure to win
the heart of those wanting a dependable, reliable
and practical SUV.
