GM Truck Shootout -- 2019 GMC Sierra Denali vs. 2019 Chevy Silverado High Country: Comparison

GM Truck Shootout -- 2019 GMC Sierra Denali vs. 2019 Chevy Silverado High Country: Comparison

Car Confections:

While everyone knows that the f-150 is the best-selling pickup in the U.S.
What a lot of people don't realize is that when you combine the sales of the Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra
General Motors sells nearly as many trucks as the blue oval but say you're one of the approximately
800,000 people that know for sure you want a new GM truck
You still have to choose between two foundationally similar, but distinctly different products
for this comparison
We hope to answer that question by directly comparing a top-of-the-line Silverado high country to the equivalent Sierra Denali
So let's go ahead and get to it
Like always the first thing on the agenda is establishing the pricing and option levels of the two models
Starting off with the brand-new Silverado. Like I said, this is the highest trim the high country
It starts off at a little over fifty six thousand dollars
But from there, we have the high country deluxe package optional 6.2 liter v8
Technology package power assist stops and a couple other things
after adding in the destination charge of fifteen hundred dollars
You have the most expensive Silverado 1500 they've ever made at sixty six thousand four hundred twenty-five dollars
as
You would expect the Sierra Denali has a richer starting price of fifty eight thousand dollars due to its classier brand image
But after options are added in the two are quite similar
Like the Silverado we have every possible option including the weighty
$4,800 Denali ultimate package
Plus the 6.2 liter v8 and destination charge bringing the total to sixty-seven thousand three hundred forty dollars
That places the price difference at under a thousand bucks
Which definitely means pricing is not going to be the deciding factor when choosing between these two
Anyways now let's go ahead and get into the comparison
Normally this is where we get into a real detailed analysis of the engine transmission and fuel economy differences
But in this case, they are exactly the same
Like I mentioned they both have the optional 6.2 liter v8 making 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque
that top engine is paired with the top transmission a 10 speed automatic jointly developed with Ford and
They both have standard four-wheel drive as far as the fuel economy
They both come in at 17 combined though. For some reason the Silverado does have a 1 mpg advantage in the city
Now let's talk about the driving as you would expect they are pretty much the same besides for one important difference
The Sierra Denali comes standard with adaptive ride control while the Silverado does not offer this system at all
Therefore even though the Silverado does ride quite nicely you're going to get that extra level of
Refinement from the GMC since it can make adjustments for motion control and right isolation
Well, that's it for the powertrain so now let's check out the exterior designs and specs
Now heading on to the outside, I do realize that looks are subjective so I'm not going to do points for this part
of course on the Chevy you've got the signature split grille design with high country branding and bronze accents and
The GMC gives you the signature bold chrome mesh grille
Both feature high intensity LED headlights and LED fog lights, but with very different designs
At first glance you'd think that the sides are exactly the same but upon further
Evaluation there are some important differences
The GMC has more chrome trim around the windows and more importantly the wheel wells are plastic trim squares
compared to the Silverados newfound circular wheel arches
in
The back they are pretty much the same besides for differences in the execution of the tail light and tailgate designs
Now you're probably noticing what looks to be a tailgate inside of a tailgate for the GMC
Which looks a little strange from the outside but adds a lot of functionality
This is known as the multi Pro tailgate and it can be put into six different modes
Including a bench one for tailgating and access step a bed extender or even as a little desk
The Chevy's tailgate doesn't have those functionalities
But instead it has the ability to both power open and close something to Sierra can't do
Otherwise both beds are made from high-strength steel with plenty of tie downs have LED lighting and very easy accessibility
Thanks to both bumper steps and running boards that slide backwards for side access
But beyond that stuff we're mostly looking at very similar features with subtle variations
for example
Both trucks have really nice-looking
22 inch alloy wheels as well as mirrors with heating power folding LED lighting and auto dimming
- the Denalis chrome mirror caps
For safety systems both trucks have the same equipment when fully loaded
Including blind spot monitoring forward emergency braking with pedestrian detection
Lane departure alert and auto high beam headlights
Strangely though. Neither have adaptive cruise control at this time
And lastly to wrap up the exterior
Both have 24 gallon fuel tanks and towing capacities of 93 hundred pounds when you opt for these fully equipped models
Well that pretty much sums up the practical exterior features, but now let's get inside and see which truck offers more luxury for the owner
Before getting in both trucks have the same key with remote start
Now once we open the doors it's very obvious that they are related to each other
There are far less changes to the cabin than on the outside. And unless you get the high country's brown interior option
They are almost indistinguishable visually
However, there are some differences abound like the leather on the heated and ventilated eight-way power seats
The high country gets the same leather as the lower trips
While the Denali comes with an exclusive wide grain leather that looks and feels a bit better
Now as far as the rest of the materials they are 90% similar but the Sierra does the details better
The Silverado uses a special bronze colored plastic trim for the high country and a faux wood trim
While the Sierra uses an authentic aluminum around the screen and real open pore ash wood
this again just gives it a little bit of a higher-end feel as
Far as the displays that the main one is eight inches and there is a second 7 inch display in the gauge clusters
Obviously there is some variation and the design but the functionality is all the same and that also applies to the head-up displays as well
Coming back to the steering wheels, they're actually pretty different from each other
The gmc's is box here with more of that real aluminum and a nicer leather
in that general area both have column shifters that pull up a
360-degree camera when you put them in Reverse
these are some of the best camera systems in the industry since they have so many different views and such high resolution, but
Here on out there is nothing to distinguish these two trucks
They both have the same center console entirely including all the storage climate buttons and plugs
They both also have the Bose 7 speaker premium audio system. Let's go ahead
This is overall an excellent sounding system moving up to your screens the systems have different names but are exactly the same
They have the latest graphics, very ergonomic layouts navigation and Android auto and apple carplay
The last things to look at up front are the rear camera mirrors and moonroof
It is worth noting that a panoramic roof is not offered on either truck
Finally to end this comparison the back seats are completely identical
With heated seats charging USB ports and secret storage areas
so with that we wrap up this in-depth comparison as
You can see these two trucks are still extremely similar this
Generation and it really just comes down to personal preference about what type of image you want to convey
The GMC carries the more luxurious aura and the Chevy has the more hard-working image, even though they have the same capabilities
Anyways, we hope this quick comparison between two of the nicest trucks on the industry will make your decision easier

2020 GMC Sierra 1500 Duramax Diesel Review - Worth the Wait?

2020 GMC Sierra 1500 Duramax Diesel Review - Worth the Wait?

Edmunds:

[MUSIC PLAYING]

SPEAKER: What's that sound?
Oh, just six
cylinders and a drum
line turning diesel to torque.
That's right, this is the
2020 GMC Sierra 1500 Duramax.
Man, I feel so tough right now.
Do I look tough?
No?
OK, whatever-- let's
talk about this truck
and why you might want or not
want a diesel in your half ton.
That's not a euphemism.
If you're shopping for a diesel
truck or any kind of truck,
visit us at edmunds.com.
And make sure you follow
us on Facebook, Instagram,
and Twitter.

1500 is what I'm interested
in, because I don't know.
I would call it the
most consumer truck.
This is the truck you might
have as a daily driver,
to do some towing,
some adventuring.
But now it is available
with a diesel engine.
Every 2500 and 3500
heavy-duty pickup truck
comes with a diesel option.
And they sell very well,
despite being more expensive
than the gas engines.
The same hasn't been true for
the 1500 series half ton trucks
until Ram reintroduced
a diesel in 2014.
Before that, it was
gas engine only.
Why does that matter?
Well, diesel engines
are cool, because they
make a lot of torque.
That's the muscle
part of the engine,
and it helps for easier towing.
They also offer
better range and fuel
economy than a gasoline engine
carrying the same weight.
Diesels are especially good
at providing respectable fuel
economy and range
while towing, which
makes them very popular with
people who have horses or boats
or race cars or
big camper trailers
or pretty much anything
that you might need to carry
from one place to another.
The 3-Liter Straight-6
Duramax in the 1500
is so quiet and chilled out,
that you would never even
know it was a diesel if
you didn't see the badge.
I haven't been in
any diesel vehicles
that I would describe
as a rocket ship,
but it is plenty quick.

We're moving.
Because the 3-Liter Duramax is
a smaller engine than what's
available in the
heavy-duty trucks,
I like to call it the Baby Max.
But it makes 277 horsepower
and 460-pound feet of torque,
which is a very grownup number.
The 3-Liter is backed
by a 10-speed automatic
transmission, and
it's really nice.
It shifts smoothly on
hills and while towing.
And as we are unladen right now,
I don't even notice the shifts.
It's effortless.
It doesn't pull
quite as effortlessly
as its heavy-duty siblings,
but the 15000 still
has cool trailering tech.
And it is more
than ready to take
some dirt bikes or a small
camper out for the weekend.
Speaking of trailer
tech, this thing
has 15 different camera views.
You can see everything
that's happening everywhere,
in space even.
You guys, you guys,
you guys, yeah,
there's a buffalo right there.
There's two buffalo.
That is so cool.
Hey, guys, do you like my truck?

Every time I get into a big
truck, I'm always thinking,
am I going to be able to
see out of this thing?
Is it going to be
hard for me to drive
because I'm not a big person?
Seat moves up.
The steering wheel moves down.
Visibility is great.
And also, did I mention
15 camera angles?
This thing is fine.
I've been in small cars that
were harder to see out of.
But you might be
watching this and going,
well, I am a big
person, so is it
going to be comfortable for me?
And that is why I have driven
around with many big people
this week.
And they have all said that
they have plenty of room,
including in the back.
Another big question
whenever you get into a truck
is, is it going to
handle like a truck?
Is it going to
ride like a truck?
Are we going to be
bouncing around in here
and having to slow down
to 10 miles an hour
for even the slightest corner?
No.
No, actually you don't.
The suspension is
tuned really well.
We were driving around
in the mountains,
and it was not a problem.
We were able to keep
up with traffic.
We didn't feel big and unwieldy.
Now, if you're
already a GMC fan,
you already understand
the vibe of GMC.
But if you're not, you
might be wondering,
what is GMC compared to Chevy,
which is a sibling company?
Or where does GMC fit
in the truck market?
GMC describes itself
as premium pro.
So is the Sierra meeting
that luxury idea?
OK, it's kind of interesting,
because from a driving
perspective, I would
say absolutely.
I mean, it's smoother than
some Cadillacs I've been in.
I think the drive
quality is really nice.
I think the handling is nice.
And again, it's so quiet.
From a material standpoint,
in the interior,
ahh, I think they could
push a little bit harder.
It's sort of weird,
because I would
say that, from a tech and
performance standpoint,
GMC is doing a good job of
providing a premium experience.
There's this cool mirror that
flips to have a full view,
not blocked by anything
that's in the truck.
And you can get heated
and cooled seats.
And again, it's very
comfortable in here, very roomy.
It's just the actual
physical materials
that are covering the
interior, they're only OK.
[MUSIC PLAYING]

I sure wish I had
somewhere to sit.

Well, you look at that.
I'm a fan of the half
ton with diesel grunt.
This is a good truck.
GMC is doing it a
little bit differently
than some of the
competitors, with a focus
on driving comfort and tech
over top towing numbers.
But unless you're hauling
something every day,
I'd say the 3-Liter Sierra
is a great workhorse
to add to your stable.

2009-2013 Chevy Silverado GMC Sierra 1500 Performance Exhaust System Kit DynoMax 39495 Cat Back

2009-2013 Chevy Silverado GMC Sierra 1500 Performance Exhaust System Kit DynoMax 39495 Cat Back

JEGS Performance:

Hi and welcome to this episode of the DynoMax
Performance Garage. Today, we're going to
install one of our new Cat Back systems on
this 2010 Chevy Silverado. So if you're ready,
let's get started.
Now after you get this vehicle up in the air,
or if you're working on this in your garage
on your back, you're gonna notice that this
entire exhaust system, the stock one, is one
piece. So there's one bolt to go ahead and
take off right behind the cat. And then what
you have to deal with then is just make sure
you get all the mounts off the rubber bushings.
So we'll go ahead and start with the hitting
all the little rubber mounts with a little
WD-40. And then we'll go up to the front,
remove that one nut, and go ahead and fish
it out from the back.
All right. Well, now that we got all the rubber
bushings removed, and I'll tell you what,
these things fight you tooth and nail every
time that we do one of these so use your WD-40
and a little bit of patience. So now that
I have this all off, what we're going to do
is fish it all out, keep it as one piece.
Or you can cut it and saw it so it drops out
nice and easy, up to you. And then we'll start
putting the DynoMax piece in. After you have
the stock system removed, you are going to
reuse the factory clamp right here at the
cat. The way that DynoMax flares their pipe
right here, you'll see that fits up just like
the stock one did. So we'll reuse the clamp,
and then keep going back.
All right. Finished off with a brand-new stainless
steel tip from DynoMax and they've got a full
new product line for these if you're building
your own system. But this one comes with it
and she's all polished up and ready to go.
We're gonna put it down on the ground and
do some sound tests.
Thanks for joining us on this episode of the
DynoMax Performance Garage. Now that we're
done installing and doing our sound bites,
we're gonna hit the streets and see how it
sounds out in the open air. See you next time
on the DynoMax Performance Garage.

GMC Sierra beats the Silverado

GMC Sierra beats the Silverado

4WD Magazine:

Earlier this year GMC promised greater
differentiation between the Chevy and GMC brands.
We're finally starting to see
what that looks like
with the unveiling of the bold
innovative feature packed 2019 GMC Sierra.
This is one aggressive looking truck you
can't help but instantly notice the
asymmetric angled wheel wells which add
a new dimension to the simplicity forced
on pickup truck designers by the nature
of a two-box design. There are quite a
few more exterior touches to talk about
but let's start with the exciting new
features that we can use. This is a
pickup truck after all which means it's
got work to do and when that's finished
hopefully there's some serious playtime.
When we looked at the 2019 Silverado we
talked about how Chevy had the new
features in the bed and the tailgate
which is the business end of a pickup.
I now see why General Motors introduced a
Silverado first because once you see
what GMC has done with the business end
of the Sierra you may not look at any other pickup truck.
First is the six
function multi-pro tailgate that's
compromised of an inner and an outer
gate every other tailgate since the
invention of the wooden cart can go up
and down. 4000 years later and all
manufacturers have achieved where
tailgates that are powered and worked by remote.
But GMC has turned the tailgate into a new tool to make our lives easier
for starters it has a built in load stop to keep long items in the bed when you accelerate
you can lower the inner gate to get closer to the box to load and unload
the inner gate also drops
it converts to a full-size step so you can
comfortably carry tools and toys into the bed
this handy step will hold up to 350 pounds
drop the inner gate when the tailgate is up
and you can create a
second extra wide level for oversized
construction or renovation materials and
still take advantage of the load stop.
Now that's five so far and I have to say
that six is a little weak to be called a unique feature.
You can drop the inner gate when the tailgate is up and GMC says you can use it as a work surface.
Now they're not wrong and I'm gonna give it to them because this is a fantastic tailgate.
After the shock and awe
we realized that there are a lot of moving
parts which whether you're a pessimist
or realist can mean more failures.
However, GMC assures us that is the
thoroughly torture tested and it's as
tough and as durable as a traditional tailgate.
The bed of the 2019 Sierra like
the 2019 Silverado will provide
best-in-class cargo volume 63 cubic feet
in the short box. You get extra tie-downs
and available 110 volt power
outlet and additional lighting in the bed
engineered from a rolled formed
high-strength steel.
Saving weight while you're designing a truck is important
unloaded a lighter truck accelerates and
breaks more quickly all else being equal
its more responsive. Drive it in the same
way as a heavier truck and you save money and fuel but most importantly every time you save some weight
you can essentially increase the towing and payload capacity with little to no effort.
It's why most two-wheel drive trucks
have better max payload and towing features compared to their four-wheel drive counterparts
the extra parts to drive those front wheels adds weight to a truck and it comes off the total capacity.
Now many of you already know this but it's important to mention because getting best-in-class helps sell trucks.
After the literal
bashing that the Ford F-150 got for
having an aluminum bed where else could
GMC go to save weight and the answer is carbon fiber.
It's used in aircraft and
race cars for its flexibility, strength
and reduced weight, we use carbon fiber
in everything from fishing rods, to golf clubs, to skis.
It's the Superman of
building materials but even Superman
weakens from kryptonite and carbon
fibers kryptonite is impact.
According to Mark Voss the engineering group manager
for GMC they've not used the layers of
woven carbon fiber fabric that we are
used to seeing
they use a nylon based thermoplastic 1 inch fibers of carbon fiber create an isotropic mat which can
be compression molded to create the
shape, size, features, ridges and textures
that you want. GMC says this bed is
stronger and is more corrosion, impact,
scratch and dent resistant than aluminum
or steel. Essentially saying you won't
ever need a spray in or plastic liner
because this is essentially a super tough plastic bed.
The carbon-fiber box
is 62 pounds lighter than the steel version
which doesn't sound worth it but it all adds up.
Like the Silverado everything that swings will use aluminum which includes a tailgate, doors and the hood
while various strengths of Steel
make up everything else.
The bottom line is GMC has shaved 360 pounds off the current model of the Sierra.
Often the biggest part of work and play is trailering and
while mechanics of trailering haven't
really changed much the electronic aids
have. The pro-grade trailering system is
standard on both the Denali and SLT
models. Some features I can never see
myself using, like the trailering app,
featuring a pre departure checklist and
the maintenance reminders. But others
like the trailer light test, electronic
diagnostics and trailer tire pressure
and temperature monitoring will save
time and it'll make hooking up easier.
With enough practice we all get good at hooking up
but lots of folks only pull a
trailer recreationally a dozen times a year
and the new features will probably
save some marriages.
Things like hitch guidance with hitch view and the auto
electric part brake will help position
the truck when hitching especially handy
when you have to do this on your own.
Two available side view and one rear view
trailer mounted HD cameras are also
smart features that you'll use when
changing lanes are backing up.
The three camera system will actually let you see both sides of the trailer and the rear view all at the same time.
My only hope is that these features don't result in a dependency on the electronics
A walk-around pre-check, a good set of mirrors, a healthy dose of common sense and a bit of old-fashioned fear
should be your first line of defence.
As I've had a few buddies who have had their boat stolen while on a trailer I really like the trailer theft detection.
You get a text and a mobile alert from OnStar when your trailer has unknowingly been detached from your truck.
The Sierra will be powered by new versions of the
gas-fueled 5.3 and 6.2 litre V-8 engines
and gets an all new inline-six 3 litre turbo diesel.
General Motors is still quiet on the key horsepower torque and fuel efficiency numbers
but they have told us that the gas engines get the new dynamic fuel management system
that enables the engine to operate on 1-8 cylinders something originally introduced in the Silverado.
The 6.2 and the 3 litre engines get the 10 speed
automatic transmission.
Where does that leave the 5.3 liter? They're not saying.
A very long list of every conceivable piece of cabin technology will be available in the Denali
my second favorite is a 3 by 7 inch heads-up display which projects customizable key data on the windshield
not just engine info but for instance turn-by-turn navigation and call display.
I've used it before and I don't find it distracting you see it when you need it
and your brain looks through it when you don't.
My favorite is the rear camera
mirror which essentially turns your
mirror into a rear view camera but you
don't have to be in Reverse.
If you've ever had a load of furniture, an ATV, a
snowmobile in the bed or your buddies
fat head right in the center blocking
your view you'll appreciate the idea.
You can toggle it on or off zoom in and out
and even tilt it up and down.
The cameras mounted outside the top center of the
rear cab which gives you an optimal view
I've mentioned the wheel wells already
and like many exterior design features
beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Aside from cosmetics though the overall
truck is physically larger than its
predecessor. The hood is a little taller,
the wheels are a little closer to the corners and GMC says they'll stuff larger diameter tires underneath.
LED lights are used for the headlamps,
taillamps, fog lamps and accessory
lighting.
I love the GMC cabin like Chevy
Silverado drivers get best-in-class
legroom and headroom and the seat is a
little higher so you get a better view of the road.
The rear passengers get an
extra three inches of legroom this year
and GMC has built some extra storage
into the seat bottoms and seat backs.
The rear cabin floor is almost completely
flat to give you more loading options.
You're gonna pay a lot for this truck
but when you get behind the wheel the
finish and materials like the large
pebble grain premium leather, contrast
stitching, dark finish aluminum, open pore
texture wood wrap and terrific
ergonomic design you can't help but be
overwhelmed by a sense of pride in ownership
and I think that counts a lot towards having better days especially if you spend a lot of time in your truck.
Full powertrain specs haven't been released yet
and neither has the pricing
but you'll be able to buy one of these
later this fall so you can expect to get
all those numbers from us really soon.
What do you think? Do you think the new
tailgate is a good innovation or do you
feel it's just an expensive gimmick
likely to break down?
How do you react to carbon fiber, is it a positive or a negative?
Would you buy a truck because it has a
carbon fiber bed or avoid it?

2020 Chevrolet Silverado 2500/3500: First Look – PickupTrucks.com

Cars.com:

this is our first chance to see the 2020
Chevy Silverado heavy duties right next
to me is a 2500 LTZ and you can look at
it and tell that this is an all-new
pickup truck powertrain design interior
everything has been completely redone as
far as powertrains the carryover Duramax
diesel is gonna come to the new 2020
Silverado HD s what you have here are
some Auto Show cables so it might look a
little bit different but still the exact
same carry over engine 445 horsepower
910 foot-pounds of torque but now has a
10 speed heavy-duty Allison transmission
made it up to it also the big news in
all-new 6.6 liter direct injection v8
engine 401 horsepower 464 foot-pounds of
torque now that new gas engine is also
made it up to a revised six-speed
transmission and also one thing to
consider here if you're doing any work
on your engine on these new heavy duties
they're a little taller than they were
before so when you're trying to reach
for this hood it's a little difficult
inside everything is going to be very
familiar to the Silverado half-ton
pickup truck regular extended and crew
cab is going to be larger more legroom
especially for rear passengers but the
inside - very very similar to what we've
already seen on the half tons dual glove
boxes this is the LTZ package very nice
organic looking center console plenty of
storage here in the middle and also a
uniquely designed gauge cluster for the
driver another feature we like an
all-wheel drive capable transfer case on
a heavy duty vehicle that's a segment
exclusive here at the back of the truck
we love the fact that it's got the rear
view cameras push button tailgate drop
does it automatically you also have four
fifth wheel or gooseneck hitches you've
got the 4 and the 7 pin hitches here on
the inside also a three-prong 120 volt
plug here on the opposite side and then
you've got almost 7 inches of extra
width in the beds and the longest beds
in the segment no matter what the cab
configuration
and then because this has the auto
dropout a lift tailgate one push button
and it'll send the tailgate right back
up and closed
there's obviously tons to talk about
with this new vehicle and we will be
talking more about this after we get
some time behind the wheel but to call
out just two features that we really
like the DEF tank is right here at the
fuel filler and the fact is that every
single duly equipped Chevy heavy-duty
Silverado 3500 with the diesel will be
able to tow over thirty five thousand
pounds for more information go to pickup

2019 GMC Sierra Denali: First Drive — PickUpTrucks.com

Cars.com:

in years past that really hasn't been
that much difference between the GMC
Sierra and the Chevrolet Silverado
in fact it's some model years the Sierra
was really little more than just a
rebadged version of the Silverado with
maybe a different grille and two
different colored interior pieces well
for 2019 GMC has made perhaps the most
different version of the Sierra than
they've ever made it looks completely
different but we thought it'd be a good
idea to go through and see exactly what
the differences were from the Silverado
so we've come here to the ends of the
earth practically the easternmost point
in North America st. John's Newfoundland
to drive the new 2019 Sierra and here
are the things that you can only get on
the Sierra that you can't get on the
Silverado the most obvious
differentiator is the styling of this
thing the GMC is not nearly as wild as
the Chevrolet Silverado it's got a much
more traditional grille and headlight
setup whereas the Silverado looks like
the Camaro when it's wild child style or
does the Camaro look like the Silverado
not quite sure this one looks completely
different and it looks a lot more like
the rest of the GMC lineup but you can
see on the sides that it looks nothing
like the Silverado
you've got no fender up front instead
you've got this scalloped body panel so
it doesn't have that big fat fenders
look that the chevrolet does it's much
more sculpted it's much more sleek it
looks a little bit cleaner I think than
the Silverado I think frankly it's the
better looking of the two trucks now
we've all seen power running boards and
these aren't necessarily exclusive to
GMC but this is something new for 2019
you open the door they come out you
close the door they go back in but if
you want to get into the bed kick the
back and they extend all the way back to
the rear tire hop on up grab something
out of your bed when you're done get out
hit the back again in they go
one item that is exclusive to the GMC
Sierra is this this is the multi Pro
till game and we've covered it fairly
extensively so far this allows you to
have six different positions for the
tailgate to perform a variety of
functions this is obviously a step but
if you pull this up now you have an
extended bed with a divider in the back
here to stop things you put it down
you've got a work surface for a laptop
something like that either way no matter
how you adjust it you also have the
widest bed that GMC has ever created
it's seven inches wider than the
outgoing model another exclusive to the
Sierra is the carbon pro bed that is a
bed made out of carbon fiber now as we
said it's 7 inches wider than the
outgoing model but the carbon fiber
material is one that GMC says is the
strongest most indestructible material
that you could make a bed out of more
than aluminum more than steel we asked
them basically well what do you do when
it gets damaged and they said well you
really can't damage it all that easily
well challenge accepted mechanically the
Sierra and the Silverado do share a lot
of components they have the same power
trains they have the same transmissions
they have things like the same
four-wheel drive system but one thing
that the Sierra has that you can't get
on the Silverado is the adaptive Drive
control it has an electronically
adaptive suspension now it's not the
magnetic ride control that we've seen on
things like the Cadillac Escalade and
even on the Yukon Denali this is a
little bit different it's electronic
instead of magneto rheological so it
doesn't use the same kind of system but
it is adjustable from inside the cabin
using the drive control twist knob and
it'll change between modes between sport
and touring and tow and haul and it
really does change the way that the
vehicle behaves and feels there are two
features on this specific model the
Sierra Denali that we really do like and
that aren't necessarily exclusive to
this model but you can only get on the
Silverado high country first is this
heads-up display which is a first in a
pickup truck that we've seen it's 7
inches by 3 inches and it's multicolored
and you can get things in here like an
inclinometer speedometer a bunch of
different information about what the
vehicle is doing especially in off-road
mode which is really kind of neat to see
exactly
the vehicle is positioning itself
offroad the other item is this this is
the second generation of the rear camera
mirror now in this mode it looks like a
normal mirror but as soon as you flip it
up it becomes a full width camera that
bypasses everything that might be in the
back seat
it's actually located in the top of the
cab overlooking the bed and the rear and
it gives you a much wider field of view
now if you do have something in the bed
that's fairly tall it is still going to
obscure your view rearward but this will
allow you to see a little bit more to
the sides than just what your mirror can
do alone now a number of the features
we've just talked about we've seen here
on this model this is the Denali the
premium version of the GMC Sierra and it
comes with a premium price sixty seven
thousand five hundred ninety five
dollars for this model and that doesn't
even include things like the carbon
fiber bed which will jack that price up
even higher but that's alright you can
actually get some of these same features
on the 84 off-road version as well which
GMC is billing as new world's first
premium off-road pickup truck now the
Ford Raptor you might also argue as a
premium off-road pickup truck but that's
really a very different animal than the
GMC Sierra if you'd like to learn more

2020 GMC Acadia Denali: FULL REVIEW | THIS is a Refresh Done RIGHT!

2020 GMC Acadia Denali: FULL REVIEW | THIS is a Refresh Done RIGHT!

Car Confections:

What's going on YouTube?
So one of gmc's consistent top performers has been the acadia and so far this year. It's on pace to set a new sales record
But GMC isn't just basking in a success
But instead this year is extensively renovating the Acadia Denali in all the ways that matter
luxury performance
tech and utility
That's why we're out at Don
Franklin Buick GMC today to check one out and of course if you're in the market for any new Buick or GMC
Make sure you stop by their dealership or visit them via their website, which we provided a link to in the video description
So with all that said let's see just how much better the new Acadia really is
So getting things started with the exterior design you would be hard-pressed to even recognize that this is the same vehicle up front
GMC has totally scrapped the previous fascia and replaced it with this much bolder and boxier front end
Now this being the Denali does mean we have the most eye-catching grille design being totally chrome
But of course the lower trims like the 84 will come with more subdued designs
Turning to the headlights
This is the other huge upgrade since every model now gets these slender full LED lights
Whereas the previous Acadia was not available with LEDs at all
They have a very premium look to them with three crystals surrounded by a bracket daytime running light and turn signal
plus LED fog lights below
Now heading around to the side and back this is where you can finally tell that this is actually a
Refresh and not a total redesign
That's not to say there are no changes. It's just that they are more subtle like the larger and now fully LED taillight you
The lower bumper has also been revised to body color instead of Chrome though. It still integrates dual horizontal exhaust outlets
So overall, this was a very effective refresh design wise
Since it not only fully modernized the Acadia, but also made it look more
Handsome and upscale than the vast majority of the competition
Now another important update our new wheels across the entire lineup
This Denali of course has the most distinctive 20-inch wheels, but honestly
It's the other trims that are more of an upgrade since they went from basic to stylish this year
and
Moving on to the mirrors all models have heating but Denali also has driver side auto dimming and blind spot monitor
And as far as all the other safety systems the Denali will get most of them standard like automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection
Lane Keeping Assist and auto high beam headlights, but if you want to adapt your cruise control, you will need to select the technology package
But anyways guys that pretty much sums up all the exterior upgrades
So now let's go ahead and see these significant changes GMC has made to the inside
So standard on every Acadia you do have GM smart entry system with the typical GMC key fob
You will also notice on most of the trim levels you will have a remote start system
Now as is the case with most General Motors vehicles, there is not a sensor behind the handle instead
You just press this button to unlock
All right, so taking a look inside the new cabin in the 2020 Acadia Denali
As you can see certain parts of the design have carried over but there are a lot of new characteristics
Now as far as the cabin color and material options for this Denali
You do have several different choices. So you will always have the very nice perforated leather. Of course
But you get the choice between jet black or this light coloured shale
but one of the new things that's very nice this year for
2020 is that we now have an open pour ash wood trim on Denali
versus the previous faux butcher
That's already over here to your door trim it is very nicely appointed it's got those same
Materials from the seating and the other parts of the Interior
So you do have the nice shale color leather through here the open pour wood that runs along this area
And this part is soft touch plastic with a color contrast stitching
Naturally on these on the loaded model here. We do have two person receiving and our front two windows are OneTouch auto up and down
Now as far as the seats here on the Denali
We do have an eight-way power adjusting seat with two way lumbar support that would carry over to most of the other trims as well
And then like I already said this is a full real leather seat. It has a real nice and supple feel to this leather
I also really like the perforated design and we have some new types of stitching here to give it a little bit more character this
Year, and then of course like every Denali you do have the embroidering up here of the branding
Now like I was saying there are a lot of new aspects to this cabin this year including some of our graded materials
So across your upper dash here you have a soft touch plastic and then through the middle here
We have some of this new open pore wood with the real brushed aluminum all this is stitched plastic
We have more of the really nice brushed aluminum that goes around the screen here
It also new this year
we have a nice leather pad that runs through this area for your knee to rest against and then once again
Some more of the real open or wood which looks very attractive
Now as far as how everything fits together
You may notice there are some panel gaps around
I'm gonna chalk that up to being at the beginning of the production run but everything does still feel very solid
Now turning over here to your screen this is the 8 inch touch display this is another area that's been upgraded this year
However, we'll get into that a little later in the video
All right, now what you're looking at here is the upgraded reconfigurable gauge cluster that comes on Denali
It does have an 8 inch display which replaces the usual 4.2 inch display
Now this is the same version that was equipped last year
So this is actually the older version which I prefer versus the newest reconfigurable gauge cluster that I've seen on recent GM's because
This one actually has more
reconfigurable
reconfigurability
You actually can change like the designs and stuff where some of the current ones don't have that option
So we can like click in like this and we can change between two different design languages
So that you can see this is kind of a weird modern look or we can go for a more traditional look
Now it is worth pointing out
new to the Acadia
This year is a 6 inch head-up display now that would come usually in the technology package on Denali
We actually have that package, but because that feature is not going to be available until later in the year
We don't have it on this particular model
Now coming back to the steering wheel of course, we do have electric power assisted steering
And every model will come with a leather wrap steering wheel. However, of course on the Denali we do have the real brushed aluminum accents
as far as your buttons here these are for your adaptive cruise control
we do have heating as well as power adjustment on this Denali and
Then on this side, we have our buttons which control the multifunction display
Off to the side here we have an electronic parking brake as well
Now moving on to interior storage, this is one of the big upgrades for 2020
And I'll go over the reason why in a second, but we do have a lot more this year
So start out with we have a very nicely sized center console quite deep at least a foot deep
we do have a little pad down at the bottom as well a
Tiny space right here. We now have two cupholders oriented this direction now, we have a really large bin right here
With a nice wireless phone charger pad right here as well as now a USB type-c a regular USB and a 12-volt outlet
The biggest upgrade though is all of this space down here
So we know how they Center pass-through so you can stick just about anything down here
It's a good place to kind of hide something or keep it from rolling around on the floor
Now, of course as you probably already saw the reason why we have this extra amount of storage is that we've now gone to
the
push button style shifter instead of the traditional one
So now it's up here kind of out of the way
So it is very simple to use you pull on these toggles here and you push on the other buttons
So for drive, you're just going to pull back like so
You can also
Shift into low and also shift manually here if you want to for whatever
Reason, but there's not gonna be any paddle shifters on any of the models
For reverse you're also going to pull back on that toggle
And when you do you will notice the brand new 360-degree camera system that is optional and Denali
And this is the newest General Motors camera system
Like I said, it's got tons and tons of different views and really high resolution like I've shown off in many other models
So you have the ability for like three dimensional views side views
trailering views
Really there's just a ton of different things
and like I said, the resolution is very high some of the best in the entire auto industry and
Then for park you just press they're big people
Well right now our redesigned consul here we do have some other important buttons to look at so I'll start off up here
This is a brand new button this turns on and off your auto start/stop system that previously was not an available option
It was on automatically all the time
You do have a traction control defeat button your hazards and your parking sensors
And then back behind it here
We do have one of the Acadias unique features that carries over and that's kind of having this drive controller right here
they actually allow you to select when you want to be in two wheel drive and four wheel drive unlike most of the competition which
Does that automatically
And then off to the side here we do have
Our controls for both our three-stage heated seats as well as our three stage ventilation both of which are standard on the Denali truck
Now kind of bouncing off that to the climate controls we do have a three zone automatic setup on the denali acadia
So it is very simple to use all you have to do is just adjust these knobs
They're nice and big and ergonomically friendly we do have our zones that trim around it
And then your fan speed is right here. So everything is located right here
Now that brings us on up here to our audio system now on the Denali
Of course as you'd expect we do have the nicest audio system available in the lineup
And that's going to be an 8 speaker Bose premium audio system
So let's go ahead and take a sample up
Some quality of this system is definitely excellent and I
Especially appreciate the generous amount of base in the system
All right, so now we are up here at our brand new GMC infotainment system
So we'll go ahead and take a look at that
now I'm not going to be super in-depth about this in this video because
It is the same type of system that we've seen in many other
GM vehicles including other GMC models it is but it is new to the Acadia for 2020
So this version here the important updates are basically that we have a new screen much higher resolution
Looks very clear and nice
Very responsive as well. So you can just really quickly click into things and everything is just real snappy and zippy
We have a redesigned layout so you have the shortcut buttons along the bottom like so
Now hitting some of the highlights of the features
On Denali you do have standard navigation
This is the brand new navigation system. It does update over-the-air
Graphics are much better. And as you see once again, very very responsive to pinch zoom and whatnot
Now you do have some buttons along here that you can't control the system with and you can actually use this knob here
To move about the system if you don't want to put fingerprints on it
As far as your other important features we do have standard apple carplay and android auto both onboard
And that's on they'll be across the entire lineup even on the lower end models
Now heading on up here you will find an auto-dimming mirror, of course standard on Denali with your three Homelink Universal remotes
But as you can see right here, we have the technology package which throws in the brand-new rear camera mirror
This is new to the Acadia for 2020 even though we have seen it on other General Motors vehicles
And it does work the same way. It just cuts out all the obstructions behind you
So you just get a super clear and nice view of
Anybody that's behind you
And then turning up here we do have the dual panel moonroof setup
Now it does continue to have a manual circuit which is a little bit different from the rival
So you have to push up and kind of unclip it and it pulls back the same also goes for the back
As I said it is dual panel
It's not a continuous piece like in some of the competition, but you do have the two separate panels
The front panel does open up and you do have a windscreen now
this is an option on the Denali as well as lower trim levels for
$1,400
But overall, I am really liking the upgrades that GMC has made to the cabin for 2020
The stuff that they did I think is really meaningful
They they hit all the important things and this is one of the nicest cabins in the class
And you also have the rear seat reminder system like in other GM vehicles
All right, well that does it for the front areas of the cabin
So I'll hand it off to Mason to check out all the back areas
All righty, so heading around to the 2020 Acadias rear-seat you are gonna find a good amount of space
You'll find 40 inches of rear legroom and 40 inches of rear headroom
Which does place it on par with most of the rivals like the toyota highlander and honda pilot
Now turning over here to the door trim GMC has given you a very luxurious one especially here in the Denali trim
So all this upper portion is soft touch plastic
However, you do not have the stitching from the front and down below that we do have leather going all the way through here
now in addition to that we do have a cup holder some more wood trim your power window and
Down below that you have some bottle storage as well as a little cubby right here
Now as far as the seat itself is concerned obviously we do have the captains chairs on this particular Denali
They are standard on the Denali model. However, you can get five
Six or seven passenger seating so there's a quite a few different configurations
You can actually have no third-row at all. Or you can have the event seat here in the back or this captain's chair model
Now as far as the seat adjustments itself, it does also slide and recline
Now here in the center GMC was very nice to include your own climate control standard across all of the models
So you do have your fan adjustment you have an automatic mode as well as the different fan zones and temperature adjustment
Now down below that you might also notice that we do have three-stage heated rear seats
which are standard on the Denali model and
Down below that we do also have plenty of outlets to keep all of your family charged up
so we do have a household style outlet a
USB type-c and a smart charging USB and that is standard on the SLT models and higher
down below further below that we do also have some cup holders as well as an integrated storage area and
This model, does that the captain's chair so we do have the integrated armrest and
Above that we have the power
We do have the twin panel moonroof, which really does I do like this feature
It would be nicer if it was the panoramic set up, but I do like this feature
It really helps tear out the cabin especially here in the second and third rows and we do have some holiday lighting
Your air vent right here as well as an assist grip and coat hook
And as far as the rear legroom is concerned like I said
This is on par with most of the class. So behind your seating position
I have about seven to eight inches of rear legroom and my feet can easily slide up underneath the seat
Now to get into the third row seats GMC has made it quite easy
So you have to do is locate this little handle push it forward and seat this slide right out of the way
Now obviously this particular model is equipped with the third row seating
The vast majority of the Acadia lineup will have third row seating if you're wondering
And as far as the rear legroom is concerned it is class competitive
However, one thing worth mentioning is that there are only two seats back here. Whereas some of the rivals will give you three seats
And sitting back here
My first impression is actually a good one
so I have about an inch of rear leg room to spare and that is with us seat adjusted all the way back and my
Feet also do have a spot to slide up underneath the seat. It's not the most spacious but it is pretty good and
Off to the side. We do have an integrated cup holder
GMC was nice enough to include rear vents as well as some lighting as well and
Off to the left side. We do also have a smart charging USB, which is a nice touch
So overall this is actually a really good third row for the class
It's pretty competitive with most in the class of you're wondering how this compares to a pilot or highlander. It is about
And before I move out of the second row areas
I do want to mention that there is also a rear seat entertainment system available
I forgot to mention that earlier but it is an option if you want that
And they're heading the route to the tailgate of the Acadia it is hands-free power
So all you have to do is wave your foot under the bumper and you can't see it right now
But there is also a projection under there
And once inside the Acadias trunk you are going to find a little bit smaller space than you would in most of the arrivals
So you're gonna find 13 cubic feet behind the third row seats
it expands to 42 cubic feet if you fold them and
Then as a maximum you have 79 cubic feet with all of the seats folded
Now like I mentioned that is a little bit smaller than the current Toyota Highlander as was the Honda Pilot
But it's not by a huge margin
So I don't think you were going to notice that really if you're cross hopping between them
Now as far as how they finished it back here. It is finished very nicely through there of a carpeted floor board
Off to the side. We do have some storage as well as the handles to fold the second row seats
So let's go ahead and fold these seats and see what it's like
So I have to do is grab this little strap. It does hold the headrest and I push forward
As you can see they do fold flat with the floor and I can fold the second row right here
As you can see that is a very easy process some of the rivals
Don't allow you to fold the second row from back here. So that's a nice touch and
Underneath of the floor. We do have an additional storage areas as you can see. These are probably about six to eight inches deep
So you can fit quite a bit of stuff back here
Now coming over hit the passenger seat it is power adjusting as you would expect out of this Denali model
In front the passenger you do have premium materials down below that a good size cloth box
it is not felt line, but it is dampened and
Up top. We do have a Sun Visor with mirror and light
And it does also detach as was extend
Now that pretty much sums up all the practical stuff about this GMC Acadia
So that's going take it on the road and see how it compares to its rivals like the Toyota Highlander and Honda Pilot
All right, so let's go ahead and cruise into the powertrain section
Now with this car you actually have three different options
So that's different from a lot of the competition right off the bat. So
Just like last year your lowest in trims they're gonna come with a basic
2.5 liter four-cylinder engine only 193 horsepower and 188 pound-feet of torque
That's not very common. It's not on very many models. Just the very base once
Now what's new this year is a brand new 2-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine
That makes 230 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque
That will be available it's not available right at this moment
It's a late availability item, but it will be available on the 2020 Acadia later this year
Now what continues to be the engine that's on the Denali as well as most of the models is your 3.6 liter v6 engine
that makes the most power by far 310 horsepower and
271 pound-feet of torque
Also upgraded this year is the transmission across the entire lineup you now have a 9 speed automatic transmission versus the previous 6-speed automatic
And you have the choice between front-wheel drive and optional all-wheel drive
But the 84 does have standard all-wheel drive
And then lastly we only have fuel economy numbers for the v6 because it's the only one available right at this moment
And it does improve this year the 9-speed automatic bumps it out by one MPG combined to now
nineteen city twenty seven highway 22 combined with front-wheel drive and
twenty-one combined with all-wheel drive
But anyways with that said let's go ahead and take this updated powertrain out on the road and see how it's changed
That wasn't much of an acceleration, but I can tell are right off the bat just kind of how responsive it was
I was noticing it even just moving around the
parking lot
This the tuning is a lot more responsive than it used to be
Yeah, definitely way better
Also noticing, what a comfortable riding car this is we're just been cruising down the highway here about 55 miles an hour
Very smooth very comfortable. It is an isolating type of experience here
So you just don't hear it any like road noise much wind noise anything like that
and
The ride is super smooth
I haven't driven the standard versions of this model since right now mostly it's just eighty fours and Denali is out, but
It is worth pointing out that you do have the act of dampening with the Denali
So that is going to make it have this smoother ride
It really does feel you know
if I close my eyes and didn't really know we were in I would probably predict that we're in a
Luxury vehicle because it does right that smooth and you know
That's particularly worth noting because a lot of people do cross shop this with luxury vehicles
you know, it's kind of an alternative to you know, a luxury 3-row, so
It is important that you're in the Denali trend that it does write like a luxury car and I'm happy to say that it does
That's right. GMC plays ball in both markets
So you have the lower-end stuff that's very competitively priced with
Everything else in the class non-luxury
And then you do have this denali
which is on the top end and like based on saying people do cross shop this with luxury vehicles, which means has got to
Actually deliver a luxurious experience. I
Will say it actually feels very similar to the xt6 Cadillac that we just drove in that video. We were
you know discussing that how much that had a lot of improvements versus the acadia and versus
Different other general motors motor vehicles
Now they've kind of brought a lot of those improvements down to this because I was comparing it to what I had driven
Previously, which is the 2019 now
We have a lot of those xt6 updates to the powertrain specifically in the way. It rides and how quiet it is
I feel like that has come to the Acadia to now give it that kind of luxury
Experience
I
Do want to talk about the transmission this new 9-speed automatic
Very impressed by this big improvement
The biggest thing I look for when
we have the models with high amount of gears is just
Is it confused does it respond in different types of situations like that? Right just back
There was a rolling stop, you know, that is really bad for a lot of transmission. Yeah, it really freaks them out
No problem with this
Of course you've seen from a standstill
Taking off it does a great job very responsive under different types of throttle applications
And you can barely even feel the shifts at all
As far as the steering is concerned
GM has done a really good job here as well
He just feels that it has a good natural weight to it a nice balance
You know nothing in this
Category is like real athletic or anything like that, but you can see it just has a nice linear progression a good feel
It's not too numb. It's not too light. It's not too heavy
You know, it's just really a nice balanced steering setup for this category of vehicle
Yeah, and a lot you can tell that this vehicle is a little bit smaller than some of its rivals because it does have less
Body roll it does feel a little bit less massive and this kind of feels a little bit more agile than those cars
Now in our controller we have a couple modes that we can choose
So what I'm going to do right now is choose the sport mode since we're on
You know Street use there is also like an off-road mode
And a towing and hauling mode as well
Yeah, honestly I couldn't really tell any difference there with the
Sport model maybe it's a draw maybe tuned a little bit more responsive
But like I said it by default, it's actually very responsive feeling
Than the way that they tuned everything and I think that's a big benefit because a lot of the competition that I can think of
For fuel economy
purposes and they just kind of tune things to be a little sluggish when you first get off the line and then it
Doesn't really want to do anything and so you're really hammer it down
You know this feels plenty responsive
different types of drawing applications
And 310 horsepower is more that a lot of the traditional riser and rivals will offer like the Highlander and Pilate those
Are not even in the 300, you know, haven't haven't crossed 300 horsepower yet
But over all of this 2020 Acadia is definitely an enjoyable vehicle to drive
It definitely does a lot of things very well in this class
You know, it just hits a lot of the important things and this refresh has really
upgraded the driving experience
You know and just like I had mentioned with the interior, you know, a lot of times we're refreshed
Sometimes they move they don't do anything
Sometimes they move backwards, but in this case, but this 2020 Acadia is definitely a great progression forward
Very noticeably different in all throughout the entire package
you
All righty
and now as far as the pricing of concern for this refresh
2020 GMC Acadia you are going to find very competitive pricing for its class of vehicle. If not a little bit cheaper
So for the very base front-wheel drive SL that's going to start at twenty nine thousand eight hundred
Which is definitely not a you know
Most in the class or thirty one thirty two thousand starting so that's good price incentive there
But if you want the SLE that's gonna start at thirty three thousand eight hundred the SLT thirty eight thousand eight hundred
the all-new eighty four trim is
forty one thousand three hundred and it is worth noting that that comes here with the all-wheel drive that Drew is talking about and
Then you have finally what we have here, which is the Denali and that starts at forty six thousand three hundred dollars
Now if you want all-wheel drive on any of those trims that's going to be 2,000 additional
Now as far as how this particular one is equipped, we have almost every single option that we can't have
So we've opted for the all-wheel drive. So that's an additional two thousand and we've also opted for several packages
so we have the technology package for
1795 as well as the dual skyscape sunroof for fourteen hundred
We have optional white frost paint for one thousand and ninety five dollars
We also have the trailering package for six fifty and then when you add any destination charge of one thousand
eleven
$1,195 that's going to bring the total for this particular model to fifty four thousand four hundred and thirty five dollars
Which is I would admit that is a higher price point than a lot of its rivals. Most of them will top off around 50
but it is worth noting that this car does give you a little bit more premium and experienced some people just across
Yeah, this could be a luxury vehicles
Often so it is something

This is going to be for those of you that
are looking to level out that truck for an
incredibly affordable price.
This is gonna get rid of that factory rake,
giving you a better stance, a little additional
ground clearance, and allowing you to fit
up to a 33-inch tire.
Now, these are machined for a perfect fit
and are made of heavy-duty, durable billet
aluminum, and they're finished off with a
black powder coating that's gonna blend right
into that factory suspension.
Installation is relatively simple as far as
these leveling kits go since the spacer bolt's
right on top of that factory strut, you don't
need to disassemble that assembly at all,
making it pretty easy.
Now these are designed for long life with
their solid one-piece construction, unlike
those welded spacers that can tend to crack
over time.
Now there's many options to choose from on
the site, and I think this is one of the great
ones to choose from.
At just around $60, you really can't beat
that price and not only that, does come with
a limited lifetime warranty and they're made
right here in the USA.
As far as installation goes, I'm going to
give this a two out of three wrenches on the
difficulty meter since we are dealing with
suspension and such, but expect to get this
done in about two hours.
Now with that being said, let's hope into
the install.
Tools we use first install: gloves, safety
glasses, 18-millimeter wrench, 15-millimeter
wrench, 1/4 inch drive ratchet, red Loctite,
5/16 Allen key, 10-millimeter socket, 15-millimeter
socket, 17-millimeter socket, 21-millimeter
socket, 22-millimeter socket.
Cutoff wheel, 1/2 inch drive impact, channel
locks, hammer, pry bar, bungee cord, 3/8 drive
impact.
So one of the nice things about this kit is
we don't have to touch the rear.
This is only gonna be a spacer for the front.
It's gonna lift and level that out.
We have to get that strut out, so basically
we need to take everything off around that.
So there's two ways you can do it.
You can do it on a lift like we're doing it
where you have to take the front wheels and
tires off, or you can do it on the ground.
If you're doing it on the ground, you want
to lift the front of the truck up, support
it with jack stands.
Now the first thing we're gonna do is we're
gonna disconnect our brake lines.
There's gonna be two brackets that we need
to take the bolts out of.
We're gonna use a 10-millimeter socket, and
I'll show you how to do that right now.
So the first bolt is gonna be on top of here,
right behind the brake rotor.
After that, we're gonna have another bolt
back here on the upper control arm.
It's gonna free up the brake line and ABS
line, so when we drop this whole setup down,
it's not gonna rip.
Now the next thing we're gonna do is disconnect
our sway bar end link.
This is gonna allow the lower control arm
to drop down enough so we can get that strut
out.
So we're gonna use a 15-millimeter wrench
for the top, 15-millimeter socket for the
bottom.
And then we're gonna pull that whole assembly
out.
So the next thing we're gonna do is take out
our tie rod.
So we're gonna use a 21-millimeter socket,
take that factory nut off, then we'll smack
it with a hammer and get it out of there.
So to get this out, we're not gonna smack
the tie rod, we're gonna smack the steering
knuckle.
That should allow that to pop out.
We'll just set that aside.
So after that, we're gonna swing this to the
side.
We're gonna take this nut off of the upper
control arm.
We're gonna use an 18-millimeter wrench to
take that off.
So at this point in time, we are going to
separate this upper ball joint.
The way we're gonna do that is smack the steering
knuckle, and that's gonna crack that free.
You can put a little tension on that with
a pry bar.
Now there's a lot of swinging weight here,
and if you choose to take this brake assembly
off, that's going to lighten it up.
We're not gonna do that, so we're going to
take a bungee cord and bungee that to the
side once we break this free.
So I'm gonna show you how to do that right
now.
Next, we're gonna go to the bottom of the
strut.
We're gonna take these two bolts out.
We'll use a 15-millimeter socket to get those
out.
Now after you get this last one out, this
whole control arm is gonna drop down, so you
might want to support it with a jack stand
or something.
So after that, we're gonna go up top because
we need to take the three nuts off of the
top of the strut.
So you're gonna have some wires up here.
You can just use a screwdriver or a pry bar,
pry those off.
And then we're gonna use an 18-millimeter
wrench to get those nuts off.
So we're gonna put a hand on the strut to
get this last nut off.
Once we get that off, we're gonna pull this
whole assembly out.
So with our strut out, we're gonna come over
here on the table.
Now we have a spacer to install, but before
we get this spacer installed, we have a few
things that we need to do.
Now we're gonna have these studs that we need
to install into the spacer.
We also need to cut a little bit of the studs
off on the strut.
This is so they don't poke out of the spacer.
So the first thing we're gonna do is install
these studs into the spacer.
Now it doesn't come with the kit, but it would
be a good idea to get some red Loctite.
That way that these things are going to be
stuck in there and not have the chance to
come out.
So I'm gonna show you how to do that right
now.
If you are using red Loctite, we're gonna
put it down here at the base where it's actually
gonna seat in the spacer.
We're gonna put a little bit on there, let
it run around the threads, and then we'll
just get this started in there.
We'll get all three of these done and thread
it in, and then we'll get them in with the
impact.
So I'm installing these on this recessed area
of this stud because we want this flat side
facing up.
So once we get those in, we're going to take
a 5/16 Allen key and we're going to tighten
those up.
Now, while that red Loctite is setting, we're
gonna cut these studs off.
Now this spacer is only gonna go on one way,
so we got to find out which way that it's
gonna go on.
So we need to cut this a little bit of excess
off that's sticking out so you can make a
mark, pull this spacer off, and then we'll
get them cut.
Now, to bolt this spacer on, we're gonna use
these brand new nuts that come in the kit.
It would be a good idea to run these nuts
down far enough.
That way when you cut this, you can run them
back off and that'll rethread them.
So you want to put your gloves on, safety
gloves and your safety glasses, and then we're
gonna cut down a little bit right where the
threads start.
So after you get those studs cut, we're ready
to install this spacer.
So we're gonna fit this spacer back on, figuring
out which way it goes.
There we go.
Then we're gonna install the new nuts provided.
So we're gonna thread these on one by one.
So after that, we're gonna take our 17-millimeter
socket
And go around and tighten these up.
Now there's not really any torque specs on
these, so you just want to make them good
and tight.
All right, so one thing to mention is we have
to spin this around 180 degrees to put it
back in the truck.
So it would be a good idea and it's gonna
make it a lot easier for you to get this in
if you put this end in a vice and just spin
it a little bit because we want to cock this
180 degrees the other way.
So after that, we're gonna reinstall this
and we're gonna use those factory nuts for
the top of these studs.
Once we get that seated, push it up, get those
nuts started.
Now you want to leave this front one pretty
loose, so we're just going to catch a few
threads.
We're gonna get these two back ones on pretty
much all the way.
So on the bottom of the strut, you're going
to have these little captured cage nuts.
It would be a good idea to get these off because
this is a little crooked when you get it on,
it's gonna be hard to get that bolt in the
threads without cross threading it.
So what I'm going to do is I'm going to put
these bolts up through there first.
So we're just going to run them up through
the strut just a little bit and then I'm gonna
set one of these cage nuts on top
And we're
gonna do the same thing on the other side.
So after that, we're gonna go up top and we're
gonna tighten these nuts up using an 18-millimeter
wrench.
All right, so the next thing we're gonna do
is we're gonna put that upper control arm
back in, so you might need a hand.
Like I said, there's a lot of weight out here.
What we're gonna do is we're gonna use a pry
bar.
So we're gonna get this in place underneath
of the control arm and we'll use a pry bar
to pry the control arm down.
That's gonna drop this stud down enough that
we can get that factory nut back on.
So after that, we're gonna drop our tie rod
back in
Put that factory nut back on, then
we're gonna tighten it up with a 21.
Now if it spins the stud because there is
a nylon lock on it, you can either hold this
with a socket down here or you can come in
here, just pry down on it a little bit with
a pry bar, and that should allow you to tighten
that up.
So when we put this back in, we want this
bushing on this washer on the stud, this is
gonna go up through the bottom.
Then we have this collar to put in the middle,
that's gonna go all the way up through there,
and we're going to lower this sway bar down
and we have another bushing that we need to
put up top and then the nut.
After that, we're gonna take our 15-millimeter
socket and wrench, we're gonna tighten this
up.
All right, so the last thing we need to do
on this side is re-install those brake line
brackets.
So we're just gonna put those factory bolts
back in, tighten them up with a 10 millimeter.
All right, so now that you're all done, you
can throw those wheels back on and torque
them back down to factory specs.
After that, you want to get an alignment,
have them recheck all that suspension.
However, that's gonna wrap up my review and
install.

2014-2017 Silverado 1500 Superchips Flashpaq F5 Tuner 5.3L Review & Dyno

2014-2017 Silverado 1500 Superchips Flashpaq F5 Tuner 5.3L Review & Dyno

AmericanTrucks Chevy & GMC:

So, if you are a '14 to '17 Silverado owner
with the 5.3-liter motor and you wanna squeeze
out every little bit of performance that your
truck can offer, you should be checking out
a tuner like the Flashpaq F5 Tuner that I've
got with me in my hand with me today.
There are a lot of tuners available for the
Silverado but I like this one in particular
for a couple of reasons.
Number one, it's probably one of the fastest
tuners in terms of software and functions.
It's very responsive, has a really nice HD
color screen on here, and we were actually
able to tune our Silverado in less than five
minutes.
We wanted to see what the Flashpaq could do
so we ran our truck on the Dyno and bone stock,
it is a 289 horsepower and 273 pound-feet
of torque.
With one of the Flashpaq's pre-loaded tunes,
our truck ended up making 304 horsepower and
313 pound-feet of torque.
That makes for peak gains of 15 horsepower
and 40 pound-feet of torque but what's really
nice are the curve gains.
We made 59 horsepower and 50 pound-feet of
torque.
Those curve gains are nice because that's
what you're gonna feel when you're driving
around on a daily basis.
Keep in mind, you can make custom changes
to those tune files as well to squeeze out
even more performance.
I only recommend you do that if you really
know what you're doing because there is a
lot that you can actually customize with the
F5 Tuner.
Besides those performance and economy and
towing tunes that the tuner comes with, it
can also read and clear trouble codes in real
time so if you get that annoying Check Engine
light and you're not quite sure why, you don't
gotta go to the dealer or pay the guy down
the street just to scan it for you.
You can do it on the tuner in real time and
you can actually clear those trouble codes
as well.
Besides reading and clearing trouble codes,
you can also pull all the information from
the ECU in real time using gauges so you can
actually monitor engine performance while
you're driving around.
You can also data log if you're doing any
custom tuning to your truck.
So if you like everything I've talked about
and you like the fact you can get some decent
power gains out of the F5 Tuner, go ahead
and stick around.
We're gonna go through all the features on
the tuner itself and we're actually gonna
show you how to tune your truck at home.
So like I said, using the F5 Tuner is very
easy.
All you gotta do is plug it into your OBD2
port with the supplied cable connected to
the tuner.
And in the case of our Silverado, our port
is connected directly underneath the steering
column.
All right, so once you've plugged in the F5
Tuner, it's gonna load the screen.
You're gonna wanna make sure your key is in
the on position in your ignition and we're
gonna go ahead and go over the features and
how to tune your truck.
So once you've loaded the Flashpaq on your
truck and you've put your key to the on position,
it's gonna be connected directly to your ECU.
It's gonna take you to the home screen, which
is the tuning page but we're gonna save the
best for last so we're just gonna quickly
go over some of the other features of the
Flashpaq tuner.
The other screen that you're gonna see here
is the scan screen and that's also gonna provide
you the option with reading and clearing engine
codes as well as reading your gauges and data
logging your truck in real time.
If you do have a Check Engine light, you can
go in here, you can read what the code is,
and if you actually do have a code, it's gonna
pull the code up on this screen.
This is a really great way to save a little
bit of money as opposed to going to, say,
the dealership or a local shop and having
them check your codes for you.
A lot of times, they'll charge you money for
this but you can do it right here on the tuner.
And you can plug that code in online and figure
out what the issue is.
Once you've figured out what the issue is
with your Check Engine light, you can actually
clear those codes and it will get rid of the
Check Engine light.
Do take note, if you don't actually fix the
underlying issue, the light will return eventually
until you actually fix the problem.
What I really like about the Flashpaq is the
gauges that you get in real time.
This allows you to monitor your engine's performance
and you can select up to eight PIDs, or eight
gauges if you will, while you're actually
driving.
Once you click Okay on that little confirmation
screen, it's gonna take you to all of the
different gauges that are available.
You have engine parameters in here, all kinds
of good stuff including RPMs, your spark advance,
your coolant temperature, your pressure in
your intake manifold.
If you come back out here, you have your air
intake system.
You can check parameters for your mass air
flow sensor.
You can check your air intake temperature.
You can basically anything the ECU is monitoring,
you can pull it up here on the F5 Tuner.
There's really too much to go over on here
but just take note, it is a very thorough
little device.
I really like it.
It's a great way to benchmark your truck if
you're tuning it or adding mods. and it's
also a great way to diagnose other issues
besides the reading and clearing trouble code
function.
Lastly, you do have a little battery voltage
check here.
A lot of trucks are equipped with them nowadays
but if yours is not, this is a nice way to
check your voltage.
When your truck is off, 12.5 is a good resting
voltage and when your truck is running, I'd
say anywhere between 14 and 15 volts should
be good.
All right, now besides scanning and diagnostics,
this little device also provides you some
basic information about your vehicle.
It's a really convenient way to pull up your
VIN.
It's also a nice way to pull up the operating
system that your ECU's running on and if you've
actually forgotten what tune you're using
with the F5, it will actually tell you up
top here whether your truck is stock or whether
you're running one of the available tunes.
Besides that, you have your device info here.
If you ever run into issues with your tunes,
Superchips' customer service is pretty good
with helping you out.
They might ask you for some of the information
on this screen to help troubleshoot stuff.
So, now that we got all of that stuff out
of the way, we can go ahead and go over the
fun stuff and that's actually tuning your
truck.
Go back to the tuning page using the arrows
and select Okay.
Now, once you've selected Okay, it's gonna
bring you to the available tunes that the
F5 Tuner comes with.
Like I mentioned earlier, you have a performance
tune, you also have a tune for towing, and
you also have an economy tune.
Lastly, if you wanna make custom changes to
your ECU, you can load a pre-loaded stock
tune with different options.
You can advance your timing.
You can change your spark.
You can also change your air to fuel mixtures
using this stock tune with options.
I strongly recommend you do not mess with
this stuff unless you know what you're doing
though.
It's very easy to make changes to the ECU
and if you do something that's outside of
a safe parameter, you could end up with some
serious mechanical issues.
So again, only do the stock tune with options
if you've done your research and you know
what you can handle with your truck's components.
We're gonna go straight to the performance
tune here so we can show you what kind of
gains you're gonna get using the F5 Tuner.
Now, you're gonna get this little confirmation
screen here saying that performance is designed
for a non-towing application and 91 octane
or higher fuel is required.
We went ahead and loaded our truck up with
91 octane so we are good to go.
Click Okay to confirm.
It's gonna ask you if you wanna customize
any options with this tune and that's very
similar to that stock tune like I just mentioned.
We're gonna go ahead and leave everything
as-is because we wanna see what the F5 Tuner
can do on its own.
Again, these are some of the options that
you can make changes to.
You can set your rev limiter as well as your
speed limiter and you can also change your
gear ratio and tire size if your speedometer's
not correct.
Again, we wanna leave all those things the
same so we're just gonna continue with the
tune as it is.
Now, once the device has started building
the tune, at this point, you wanna definitely
wanna make sure that you do not disconnect
the tuner.
You do not wanna take your key out of your
ignition.
Once it's built the tune file for you, it's
gonna ask you to confirm that you want to
install it.
Go ahead and click Okay.
And again, at this point, the F5 Tuner is
making modifications to your ECU.
If you were to unplug the tuner or lose the
connection for any reason, you could actually
lock up your truck, in which case you'd need
a recovery file.
Superchips is pretty good with helping out
with that stuff but it's always good to just
make sure that you don't mess with anything
while this process is happening.
Now, once you've powered down your ignition
and you select Confirmed, it's gonna give
you this little confirmation screen saying
that the performance tune is now installed.
You can go ahead and click Okay to continue
and that's really it.
That's the whole process of tuning your truck.
Very easy to use, very straightforward with
very clear instructions and, in my experience,
the Flashpaq honestly is probably one of the
faster tuners when it comes to tuning your
truck.
So, as you can see, using the F5 Tuner is
very easy.
It comes packed with plenty of features and
it makes tuning your truck very simple.
That actually wraps up my review and install
of the Flashpaq F5 Tuner, fitting your '14
to '17 5.3-liter powered Silverado.
I'm Travis.
Thanks for watching and keep it right here
at americantrucks.com.
